Looking for a case that offers a good amount of screen protection so that the glass doesn't crack if I drop it. Anyone have any recommendations?
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk
At minimum you'll want a tpu cover like a cruzerlite. It curves around the front over the curved glass edge where it's most likely to crack in a drop. Tudia and diztronic have well-reviewed covers as well.
I just bought a Hula case off amazon and I'm loving it. I have a wood back so I wanted a case that doesn't cover it since I love how it feels and looks.
I also just ordered the Hula off of Amazon. From what I can see it seems to have a good lip on the front and back, and also allows you to see the full back. I'm currently using the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro, and while it is a good case with much more protection, It's just too much bulk for an every day case. In my opinion, I didn't customize my phone just to cover it up with a plain case! I was looking into some of the clear tpu cases but most either cover the dimple or are missing a mic cut out on the back...
I have the Hula bumper case and somehow managed to drop my phone this morning while getting out of the car, and the screen shattered. I wouldn't count on it offering much protection for your screen...
I've seen phones in otter cases where the screen shattered upon dropping. I don't think there is any case out there that will protect against certain drops. If the phone drops and lands a certain way, it will shatter almost every time.
Has anyone tried some new thin cases? The Note 8 is a slim sexy phone. It sucks to put it in a thick bulky case. Show us what y'all have in thin cases.
I bought these 3
The first one was from Best Buy and I like it alot and its the one I use the most. Nothing fancy just a thin case TPU soft in the hands.
The second one I got off of eBay it's blue with a clear acrylic back. Don't get that one the cut out for the finger print scanner is to small. I cut it out some more to make it work. It's a ok case if you don't mind cutting it yourself.
The third one is from Ghostek it's 40 dollars it has a aluminum frame and a acrylic clear back. It's still a little thick for me but a damn well built case. I did not even use it I am going to sell this one.

Yeah I had one of these on my V20.
I've bought a few cases across the last week.
I personally prefer the thin fit from spigen
It has a nice slightly rubberised hard finish and the case itself keeps the phone feeling nice and thin
Supports spigen screen protector and the awful glass one I've tried... I'm going to plunge and buy the dome glass protector so here's hoping that fits too

I was looking at that Spigen but I did not like the corners. How they have a crack in them. I thought more dust would get in and not as good drop protection.

It wouldn't be as good as the bigger cases but I don't think it would do that badly... Spigen make good cases.
Yeah the sides I don't really notice.. Its probably one of only types of case out currently like this, the rest are a little bigger and bulky

I have that spigen

I have the Spigen Liquid Crystal case and it is pretty good.
However the Samsung Clear Cover Case is far superior and you don't even notice it is there
Something about clear cases that I don't like. On the sides it looks weird. I have a clear one but it's just clear on the back the sides are colored.

It fits with dome glass. Just got done installing mine. Lots of room.
I just bought like 3 more cases. When they get in I will tell yall about them. I have never bought as many cases for a phone in my life. I have been using my phone today without a case. Man it feels good to use this phone without a case. But I know one drop its gone. Also if you keep putting it down the back will get scratched up.

Ok here is two more that came in today. Both are so so.
The first on I got off of ebay. They made it sound like the end caps were metal. Which they are not they are cheap looking plastic. But it's ok
The second one I got from Amazon. I like it but don't think it has much drop protection. Thin thin thin.
I got the Spigen Neo Hybrid, I am very happy with it so far. The tpu layer is stiffer than most tpu layers I've used before, which feels nice, and the metal trim, while thin and a bit more pliant than I would prefer, looks great. Fortunately I haven't dropped it, but it feels like it would survive most reasonable falls. It's much thinner than my wife's otter box commuter and only $15 on amazon.
I got the Spigen ultra hybrid crystal clear case, and I live it. Have bought these before, they don't yellow and last a long time. Great for letting my dbrand Dragon skin show !!

I have that one does your finger print scaner work with that case? I had to cut mine out a little.
Curious as to how people are using their phones, I just wouldn't trust this size without any sort of case, so it'll be Inna case for me, likely the stock for now.
What about you guys? Using the phone naked? Screen protector or no?
Case yes, screen protector absolutely not.
Tudia case, no screen protector.
Ultra thin case & oem screen protector...
Ultra thin clear case and stock screen protector, I bought the screen protection so if it breaks I will just replace I don't like cases

Can I get the link for that ultra thin case?
Nothing right now. Tried a few tempered glass protectors but they didn't sit well. Have matte black dbrand skin I'm thinking about installing bc I didn't think I'd like the blue but it's growing on me. So for now it's naked.
Totally naked, haven't shattered a single screen in all history, so I'm pretty confident I can keep it safe too. Worst case I purchased insurance for 6 months, will see how it will survive this time.
Naked. Just stock screen protector. But I will use a transparent xtremeskin just against the slippery.
Matte black dbrand skin
OEM case
OEM screen protector
I have a couple third-party cases and screen protectors coming in the mail, so will be switching to those when they arrive.
Ultimately hoping the ultra thin matte black case turns out nice + the tempered glass protector fits well.
Where do you guys work at? I work with a lot of dust and dirt and most of the time natural product powders like pepper... Could this stuff scratch up the screen?
Naked, but I do have a fit bag
I'm using Nillkin's black frosted shield case
Stock case and stock pre-installed screen protector.
I experimented going naked with my Galaxy S8+ a few years ago and learnt my lesson after dropping the phone accidentally and having to fork out a small fortune to replace the screen. Before and after I have always used cases. I rarely drop any of my phones but it does happen from time to time, and much as I'd like to not use a case for the look and feel, it's just not worth the risk to me.
I don't bother with screen protectors usually, but since it came with it pre-installed, I'm keeping it. Will see how well it lasts - the one on the wife's Huawei P20 is starting to come off, so not of the greatest quality. Hopefully this one's better.

Dbrand skin and OnePlus Sandstone case, never use screen protectors and if it came with one I would take it off.
The Dbrand skin is just for a little color around the camera and flash that the case leaves open.
Stock case with a glass screen protector.
It's not a high quality protector but it was all of 10 bucks on Amazon. Xtremegaurd just came out with their screen protectors for it so I will be replacing the glass one as soon as that comes in
Oneplus karbon case. (super slim and awesome grip). Using the lk screen protector.
I'm currently using a Mofi Case, absolutely enjoy their products, however as soon as my Dbrand gets delivered, off comes the case.....I will only then use the case as and when I feel the need to.....

Using the case I got for free
I just got a OnePlus 8T+ 5G today ( T-Mobile ) and need to get a case. For my last two phones, I have used UAG and I have been happy with them. Reading the specs, it seems like Otterbox has testing above and beyond what UAG does (milspec) so I am considering that option too, but the back of the Otterbox cases feels a bit smoother and less grippy than UAG.
Two options I am considering:
Sites-ob_us-Site
OtterBox cases, power, screen protection, and accessories protect and empower your digital world.
www.otterbox.com
Monarch Series Cases | Urban Armor Gear
The UAG Monarch Series protective cases are the most rugged and durable on the market. They offer military drop-test protection for all your Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Motorola, Google, Microsoft, HP, and LG products.
www.urbanarmorgear.com
Only $10 price difference, so that isn't a factor. My main concern is protecting the phone. The UAG seems to provide good protection and feels a bit more grippy than the Otterbox, but I know Otterbox is a known solid design.
Any thoughts on those two?
I have both. I'm kind of a case hoarder, trying to find the perfect case. I drop my phone often because my hands randomly spasm.
Which case is better comes down to 1 question: will you be using anything other than your phone in the case?
The OtterBox + glass screen protector did well. The UAG + screen protector didn't do nearly as well. It broke more often, faster.
If you're sticking anything additional in, like a thin metal plate for sticking to magnetic holders like you put in your car, it will be too thick for either case. I rather like using a lanyard and found this thin pad that sits behind a phone and had a strap coming out the charging hole of your case with a small keychain loop....even that's too thick. The metal sheet or my thin pad causes the screen protector to protrude too far out from the case. 1 drop and they'll break.
Bare phone, either will work very well.
If I had to pick between them protection wise, the OtterBox probably has it.
If you have your heart set on the UAG, I have a better suggestion: get the Poetic Affinity case. It's less than half the price and better IMO than the UAG.

A case very similar to the OtterBox but maybe with BETTER protection is the Spigen Tough Armor. It has these yellow foam pads inside, and is similar to hold. It's technically 2 pieces but in the real world it appears very very similar to OtterBox if not better.

Virtually every single case has the same flaw though: there is a very bad soft spot in the case...every case....over the ring mode selector slider (silent\vibrate\ring). Some cases it's not quite as bad than others. But it's been present on every case I've tried except 2. And those cases fixed the issue by sandwiching the phone in between 2 hard pieces:
One was a heavy as hell all metal case that's a MONSTER in size and weight, and most people will hate, but does an incredible job protecting the phone. And it uses any old 3rd party glass screen protector. Your floor will be dented by falls, not your phone! (this is currently my case).

The other is the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro... an all plastic case that doesn't let you use a glass screen protector, you have to use their built in thin film screen protector that SUCKS and makes the case useless. It doesn't have the so called soft spot. But the lack of glass screen protector kills it for me.
It does come with a not so great belt holster though if anyone wants that.

Over the past 8 year I’ve had 5 otterbox defenders. They all served well. My biggest issue with them is there is always going to be a thin section that always breaks over time. That all truly depends on how much it drops and how hard it drops. Some of them come with their own screen protection which can be convenient but also annoying. They don’t bind to the screen so it can cause unresponsive touches. Otterboxes do come with port covers to protect from dust.
I tried out UAG 2.5 years ago and it outlasted all of my otter boxes. And it’s still going strong. It barely even has a scratch on it. It’s been accidentally ran over by a Ford 150 too lol. Nothing is breaking on it. Nothing is warped. It’s taken harder falls than all my otterboxes and it is still perfectly intact. UAG does not come dust covers. I will point out that the dust covers fall apart and they damage your phone chargers because they always push on them. Dust covers can also damage your ports because it’s pushing your chargers on the side of them. I’ve had 2 charge ports go bad because of that. Newer phones now are waterproof/water resistant so it won’t hurt your phone just to wash the dust out. So to be honest dust covers are not necessary and are more inconvenient now.
My personal preference is a UAG + Zagg screen protector. Zaggs have a lifetime warranty. You buy one and it’s good for the remainder of the phone’s life or if you buy another phone that is compatible to it. Iphone 11 and 12s use the same protector size.
I dropped using otterboxes when I discovered UAGs. They are the toughest phone cases I’ve ever had. I even had Specks that were more durable than my otterboxes. Otterboxes cost more and seem to be a lot less durable from my experience.

I normally buy an OEM case for my phones but so far I am not over taken by the offerings on the Google store.
So do you normally get a case for your phone? If so which one?
Or do you not bother with a case and just go "vanilla"?
Let me know your thoughts and if you can lets see some pictures of your case if you have one.
I usually just get the google case. Don't go "vanilla". If you drop it you'll probably have to pay more than triple of what the case just cost from the beginning.

How much thickness does the case and screen add on?
Quite a bit. That model is not petite.
Are there any cases with inbuilt stands besides Spigen and the cheap aliexpress options?
I'm unfamiliar with the 'Poetic Revolution' cases - are they as durable as Spigen?
