Need Camera2 Probe data for Samsung Galaxy A6 - Samsung Galaxy A6 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I'm considering the Samsung Galaxy A6.
I'm pretty concerned about the camera though and I was wondering if any one can provide the output from the app Camera2 Probe, which gives elaborate specifications for the rear camera.
The phone is on sale at MetroPCS for $150.
Thanks in advance.

here i have the a6+ though

Thanks I'm glad to see it can shoot RAW i.e. DNG photos.
It appears the A6 and A6+ cameras have the same megapixels and f-stop. Not sure of course if it is the exact same camera but seems probable.

Hi guys,
I would like to know how come Samsung s7 or s8 with lower camera specs take better picture than Xiaomi Mi6? Does it have anything to do with its software? Help me out please

Because Samsung has better quality of their phones and cameras. Of course, other phones has better features and lower price. But, in my opinion, Samsung is more reliable.

Exynos S10 8K video recording?

I was wondering if some devs started working on this since the Exynos 9820 officially supports 8K video recording. The phone is limited to 4K since it would cause inconsistencies with the Snapdragon variant. Does anybody have any news about this hack?
Unless 8k is supported by the sensor, you aren't recording in 8k. Doesn't matter what the chip supports. You can't record in 8k with a 4k camera
I remember that a simillar discussion was at the S4 forums 5 years back. It turned out that the camera was perfectly capable but the SoC lacked support.
8k is 33.2 megapixels (7680x4320). The main camera on the S10 phones is 12 megapixels. You're not getting anything close to 8k no matter what a developer tries to do.
Yup, camera does absolutely not have the resolution for that. At best, you'll oversample your 4k video to 8k, won't have more details and your video files will be a lot bigger.

The S20 lineup has HARDWARE support but the S10 lineup does not. The S20 and S20+ use the 64 MP telephoto camera to shoot 8K. The S20 Ultra uses it's 108 MP main camera to shoot 8K. The top count in the S10 lineup is 16MP. The CPU in the S10 is capable of 8K shooting but there isn't a camera with sufficient MP count on board.

thats resonable however 8k isnt something to panic about with tons of space and the giant display you gonna need i think is s10 is still a full package imo

Galaxy S10 Camera sensors

So, i have been doing some research for my youtube channel lately about the s10 cameras. I own the European S10 with exynos 9820 cipset and Isocell camera sensors. I know that Samsung used dual sourcing again with their phones, and some models out there use Sony sensors,, most probably snapdragon 855 variants. The question is, what sony sensors do they use? Is it the same imx 345 from the s9? My s10 uses the SLSI_SAK2L4 isocell main sensor, opposed to the SLSI_SAK2L3 sensor i had on my note 9. I am asking this because i get very good photos, even compared to the pixel 3 and mate 20 pro but i know many of you are unhappy with the s10 cameras. So, what sony sensor does your s10 have? (Use aida64 and go to devices to find out)

So, on the US variant you have (maybe) the same back camera sensors, but a sony selfie camera. But from what i heard, there are phones with sony main back sensors too. How is your experience with the camera?
BTW, here are the screenshots from my exynos variant.
I have Exynos S10+ and photo quality is noticeably worse than my Note 9 Exynos. Photos come out overexposed(too bright) with inaccurate colors(black looks gray), the sharpness is terrible as well which makes picture look blurry. It can all be fixed by Google's GCam APK camera software, but unfortunately GCam does not fully work on Exynos models, it works fine on Snapdragon model S10s.
I have ISOCell sensors for both front and back camera, just like my Note 9.
with gcam the photos are so much better, full sun light samsung cam app is fine.

Well, i have pretty much the opposite experience with my camera. Made some tests VS my European Note 9, both with scene optimizer ON, and s10 photos are as sharp, but much better dynamic range and colors

In my experience, in bright lights, S10 does capture more vibrant colors than Note9/S9, but when there is low light environment like bar or a room in night time, the sharpness goes haywire and colors look washed out. I can post a couple comparison pics.
Check out this Anandtech review from yesterday, they found the Snapdragon S10 camera images superior to Exynos. Even the DAC for audio 3.5mm jack is screwed up on Exynos. I may just get the stupid US locked Bootloader S10 until Samsung fixes these problems on Exynos.
Link to Anandtech review below, it is all accurate from my experience. The battery issue on Exynos is resolved however and now it meets or beats Snapdragon on battery front.

You speak right of my soul. The post processing is a disaster. Just take a normal picture from, idk, a landscape. When you then go into gallery to view the image, it needs like 2-3 seconds to "optimize" it. After this, the image seems to be good at first sight, but if you just slightly zoom into the photo, you can see how unbelievable blurred and unsharp it is. At least unbelievable for a ~1000€ smartphone. My OnePlus 6 made way better pictures. I'm very dissapointed.
Why samsung why?
Ok, Im terrified by my s10 camera. I have the SD S10 with sony IMX374 front camera and the Isocell back cameras, and the pictures are just stupid. My iphone 7 and Google pixel used to take better photos... Photos have less details, less sharpness and they look grainy and soft. The worst part: when I try to take a photo, they look nice before I shoot, in the preview, but then I check the gallery and there...ITS NOTHING LIKE WHAT I SAW IN THE PREVIEW... The photo becomes blurred and lose details.

So in AIDA64 "SLSI_SAK2L4SX" and "SLSI_SAK2L4_FIMC_IS" are identical sensors from Sony?
Another topic, does your AIDA list the Sensor of the tele camera? Mine does not. (Most likely the "S5K3M3")

General My father bought the S21 Ultra and i was impressed camera wise...

This is just my statement and opinion.
I'm going to try and be honest here. Me as a Mi 11 Ultra owner I was impressed and a bit jealous despite the 300-400€ difference when using my father's S21 Ultra(exynos) in 2 aspects.
One is the screen brightness with direct sunlight. i thought the all 1700nits would "shine true" but i got duped. The visibility of the S21 Ultra is much better, both using max brightness sunlight. I am not sure if Xiaomi activated the already enabled direct sunlight option, i had read somewhere that the brightness reaches better results on S21U but that's another topic.
Two is the camera...
I got mind blown when i bought the mi 11 Ultra and i got mind blown again about the quality of the zoom on S21U, without even going past 10x.
The S21U with the 3x and 10x camera app smooth change between lenses and the sharpness of the zoom photos during live preview. A more Mature camera app indeed and the stabilization of the zoom camera by focusing on the object and not having to have a firm hand... wow!
I couldn't test it during nightshots cause i was with him for a brief moment, but that is what i could have "won" in a way, but Mi11U enhances the nightshots photos after the photo is taken, not that much during live preview.
Not to discourage other Xiaomi Fans out there but Xiaomi has indeed been lacking the transparency and focus of the Software.
Samsung July patch notes note said that was made some improvements to the camera performance
Another thing is that Xiaomi MIUI patches notes are the same across all the devices and not specific of the model. Like generic and uninteresting, you don't even know if they are making adjustments to the camera app on a specific model.
But i'm going to stop with all the blathering for now.
What is your goal with this post? What do you want to tell us? The camera of the Mi11 Ultra is far above the camera of the S21, regarding to DXOMark.
Rankings - DXOMARK
www.dxomark.com
In the same test you see the display of the S21u scoring higher then the Mi11 Ultra. So yes, you are right.
Everyone has his/hers own reasons to buy a specific phone. I dont like Samsung for its UI and i dont like the esthetics of the S21u. Maybe you do, so buy a S21u?

You have to read the carefully the post i made mate.
I said on top, its my opinion that S21U is better at zoom, even if DXOmark biases or unbiases only grants 98 points against 131.
Benchmarks are benchmarks and DXOmark has a controversy of favoring Huawei and Xiaomi phones (you can read it in other places) and also Software improvements are not taken in consideration. The software released of S21Ultra had alot of issues but they fixed according to what i know and this topic was made now cause my father only bought it now.
Beside i don't look at one site and be done with it. You see alot of Youtubers talk about zoom pictures being better on S21Ultra
Also do you wonder why DXOmark never shares the specific version number of the software they test even if you ask them? talk about transparency...
And again with the Dxomark scores on Screen. Xiaomi talks about 1700nits against the Samsung 1500nits and yet i saw major difference with my eyes.
I bought the Mi11ultra because i love MIUI and this phone has alot of other functionally that other don't all in one.
I won't buy S21U. i already have purchase my device, this is a post to take in consideration, thats all.
I'm not in blind love of my MI11ultra.

I'm neither in blind love of my Mi 11 ultra. But your main point is: Samsung did a better job on their software updates than Xiaomi?
Let's hope Xiaomi will release better software soon or custom roms to fix it. And well, when i have a S21U in my own hands i will compare them.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

I don't know guys what kind of shots you need to do with a camera, Mi 11 Ultra camera to me seems incredible and that's enough, if I want better shot I buy a proper camera in my opinion
In my little and personal opinion, Xiaomi fits outstanding hardware in its phones but it clearly loses on software and optimization which I think is a more difficult task than gathering hardware. If Samsung would ship its phone with the kind of sensors Mi 11 ultra has, they might outperform Mi 11 ultra easily. Even Xiaomi's flagships such as Mi 11 ultra have outdated security updates and buggy user interface such as its dark mode; I'm living with a phone whose dark mode bugs make me change homescreen icon layout twice daily in order to get my widgets and google feed follow the device's theme. Mind it, I payed $1000 for this "luxury" and such is the experience of it. I envy S21 ultra users using their phones with the most recent Android security patch installed.
Im sorry if I hurt someone here by saying this.
I debated a lot between the two phone. Went with Xiaomi because :
1. I can use gcam (the camera will improve with time). This is not available with the Exynos S21, or very limited.
2. Better wide angle lens.
What i really miss, and in my opinion it's the biggest flaw with the Mi 11 Ultra camera: Macro. Basically doesn't exist. What is even worse is the fact that cropping from the main lens at 50MP yields much better macro results that using the dedicated macro mode. I mean...common Xiaomi.
So I bought an external 100mm macro lens, but it doesn't fit the M11U because the camera bump is too thick :/

Now that you meantion I also tried experimenting with "macro" cause the option is there and its on the Ultrawide and it can't seem to focus, i get better results with telescope lens while keeping some distance from target. but still lacks.
Xiaomi said that they didn't place a macro camera cause they found a way to use 2 lens into 1, the Ultrawide.
I wonder if gcam has a option to improve focus on the ultrawide and if it's only xiaomi camera software that it's not working properly.

You're limited by the focal range of the lense.
A ultra wide macro would likely need an attachment ie extension tube/lense for it to work. Because you don't have access to the primary lense not sure how well that work.

True, but the silly thing is that you can just take a photo with the main lens and 50MP mode and crop. You still get high res photo and the macro is FAR better than what you get with the dedicated macro mode.
They should just change the dedicated macro mode to be a crop of 50MP main camera.

It will do that if the distance is closer than the minimum focus distance of the 5x lens, or when there is not a lot of light. You can always change to Pro mode (with auto settings); to force the 5x lens .
