[Question] Magisk fbind (folder bind) - links keep disappearing after a few days? - Magisk

Sorry for probably wrong-posting, but I need a solution _fast_!! Can anybody help me _please_?
I'm a Windows user, I don't really know much about Linux-based systems & thus am not able to interpret any logs or do Linux console commands and stuff... and the fbind readme / help isn't all that easy to understand for Linux-illiterates either. Problem:
I mounted a folder from my external SD card to my internal SD by adding the following line to the config.txt file:
from_to InternalFolder .externalfolder
This seems to _work_, my 'old' app (Maverick from Code Sector) now sees all map tile data that is actually on the external card within the internal folder & can access it.
However, after 2 days or so, the folder link suddenly seems to be 'gone' (internal folder shows as empty). Only solution is to reboot the phone, then all is back to normal again.
I already tried to turn off battery savings for the Magisk app and for Maverick, with had no effect.
Question: what could cause this 'disappearance' of an as it seems correctly bound folder? What could I do to keep such links 'alive' even when they are not used/accessed for a longer time? Is there an *easy way* to 'reset' fbind without rebooting the phone? Or did I forget an important command in the config.txt / should I add something beside the above line?
I'm running Android Marshmallow on a Samsung Galaxy S5 mini DuoS

How to keep Storage clean and XDA fast

Free up storage:
-why
-how (simple)
-how (using utilities)
-how (advanced)
WHY
-The less files in storage, the faster your device
-Your storage is almost full and you want to install more
-summed up: your XDA is a mess and needs a good cleaning
-I believe the RAMdisk is faster than NAND ROM where storage is located
-Even the slowest SD card hardly shows any slowdown on most program starts
HOW simple
-Go to ActiveSync on your desktop PC
-Go to Tools>Add/remove software
-In Add/Remove Software uncheck "Install program into default installation folder"
-In the installed programs list uncheck a program
-Take a (mental) note of "Space available on device"
-Click OK
-Ask yourself if you really need it
-If so, check that program again
-Click OK
-Follow instructions on XDA, select \RAMdisk or \Storage Card as install path
-Check "Space available on device"
-Be happy
-Continue with the rest of the installed software in the same way
-Some programs refuse to follow your orders, most will move out of the way
HOW using utilities
There are two utilities that I know of that are able to transfer some of the files in your storage to RAMdisk or Storage Card, both commercial:
Wizcode Pocket Mechanic
SKTools
I'm not a fan of either of these. SKtools was only able to relocate 1.5MB of files that I could have easilly moved manually on a total mess that allowed much better results. Pocket Mechanic moved so much more that after a soft reset my today screen was as clean as a whisle, none of my today plugins loaded... OTOH both do have a lot of other neat tricks up their sleeves.
A neat little tool is System Path from http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Cupertino/2039/
Watch out, perhaps well documented but only in Japanese. Tips: unzip, place in \Windows, soft reset, find applet in Settings\system\system path. And never uncheck \Windows, just ADD seach paths.
There are lots of other nice tools on that page...
HOW advanced
-Copy files to their new location
-Edit their shortcuts
-Export all related registry keys, then edit them to the new path
-Rename the original files (I always add tmp to the extensions)
-Test if they work from the new locations
-If so, remove the original files
-If not, check if there are for example .cfg, .ini or other settings files you should edit
-Always use an editor for this that can handle both ASCII and Unicode!
-Have courage, luck and enough time
-Think first, blooper next...
Really appreciate your tips.
On your guide using AS to check the memory, do you mean by unchecking, the space available will change accordingly? I did not see that.
The problem is I don't install most programs on device storage but on SD card. Now cannot really decide where the programs are residing except by look at the "Program Files" in both Storage and SD Card to decide.
System Path is interesting. I will be trying it out.
Not just by unchecking, but by uninstalling programs that were first installed with default path on, then reinstalling with default path off. Of course if all your software is already on RAMdisk or Storage card to begin with, you won't notice a change because nothing changes. This thread is for people who 've used a lot of EXE installers with default path on, they run into lack of Storage and often have no idea how to solve it.
Disadvantage
A big disadvantage when you install your programs in ramdisk:
When your battery runs flat, you loose everything on the ramdisk. Ramdisk is only persistant when doing a hard reset and NOT by an empty battery.

That sounds fair, RAM needs some power to keep its contents. But I've drained my main battery several times willingly for test purposes without loosing a single bit on RAMdisk. Obviously it needs just the backup battery. I never drained that. But I do keep a copy of my RAMdisk on my PC and advice all to follow that advice. MOBsync makes this even easier than ActiveSync.
Hi,
i cant seem to be able uncheck the box (its not available- blanked out) ..
Most of my softwares is installed in RAMDISK and storage card except for must be in storage utilies. Yet my storage space is almost full ... i cant account for it.
I am using activesync 4.5 build 5096
Where did you install the programs/applications from? Did you put .cab files in your /temp folder? If this is the case, with most if not all .cab files you can delete them after installing the program. They can take up a fair bit of room. Cheers.

Did you expand your RAMdisk size? see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332215
Your activesync version should have no effect on the available storage.
Hi Maggy,
Yeah, i did.. I managed to recover 3mb + by deleting and reinstalling back some of my apps. Thanks for the tips.
I am using c_shekar WM6 AKU7.
This is my current memory config:-
Storage
Total 30.53 Mb,
In Use 26.08 Mb,
Free 4.45Mb
Programs
Total 61.28Mb,
In use 28.18,
Free 33.10
Is it normal for the storage to grow even when programs are installed in SD or Ramdisk ? Anyway to know which files were installed and where ? Then it would be easier to move it somewhere else
-mantd
All installed programs put some lines in registry, so that grows. Lots of programs create garbage in registry and often do not clean up after uninstall.
Programs that need dll's will place them in \windows, all installed programs create shortcuts (.lnk) in \windows\start menu\programs. All of this adds up to Storage In Use.
Most programs install either in \Program Files or \RAMdisk\Program Files or \Storage Card\Program Files. Often in their own subfolder. If not, then read their shortcuts to find them.
At initial installation most programs, especially those with PC exe install, will install in Storage even if you click RAMdisk or Storage Card. Today plugins have more or less valid reasons to do so, otherwise it's just plain stupid and annoying. Lots of cab installers have the same behaviour but cab's can be edited to change this behaviour (not all). By running PC exe installers without your device connected it will create a folder C:\Windows\Program Files\[app-to-install] which will most likely contain a cab...

Found that tiny tool:
MobileAppMover
It´s freeware.
First search - than search and overwrite.
The site from the developper of MobileAppMover
http://www.iaccarino.de/silvio/ppcstuff.htm
His description:
MobileAppMover is a tool for moving all references from a specific directory to another directory. It will search and replace a given path in the whole registry and in every shortcut. You can use this to move complete program installations from memory to storage card and vice versa. The files itself won't be moved by this tool.
For use at own risk only!
So it's not a tool for noobs who do not know the difference between a program and a Today plugin or who do not know how to move the appropriate files manually. Neither of the two commercial tools are able to move every today plugin, strange things will happen if you try to move them anyway with mobileappmover. Please be sure to have a Safe Mode boot utility installed before you try this at home.
In the worst case scenario you'll need to reflash your ROM.
IE Cache size ?
Hi,
When I changed the registry key to limit cache size avoiding low memory error in Pocket IE first it's ok but after I resetting the device all device settings and registry back to old settings , how can I solve this problem ?
You were modifying this key?:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\Cache\Content - CacheLimit?
yes it says 43018
each time I edited this when I reset the device this setting turns back

ROM upgrading with Co-Pilot 8 installed

I have Co-Pilot 8 on my phone. To install you put the Co-Pilot 8 directory on the SD-card and it automatically starts. When I upgrade the ROM, this seems to interrupt the install process and it will not complete. So, I end up removing the Co-Pilot 8 directory, installing the new ROM and then copying over for re-install and have to enter the KEY codes again and again.
Is there a way to keep Co-Pilot 8 on the card, stop the re-install and leave it installed on the memory card? I understand I would need to copy the registry entries. What else? How do I stop the self install?
This won't be the answer you're looking for...Option 1 - I allow it to auto install up to the next prompt; whether to install to device memory or SD memory card and cancel it there and continue forward with configuring the device. I'm in the middle of learning to do all of this auto-install of my CAB files, e-mail settings, etc. I know exactly what you're talking about but I tend to ignore it. You must keep the folder "2577" as it's own on the storage card (root) or lose everything you have saved and the product key. I try to remember to deactivate but it's not committing suicide unless you change hardware devices. It simply asks for registration e-mail address and password.
Option 2 prior to flashing temporarily move "2577" to within folder "copilot" and move it back to root when you're done configuring your device.
Both are not the solution I think you're after and I've yet to figure out where in the registry that instructs it to Auto-Install after "X" amount of time. If
you find it, please let me know; take care and thanks!
Just a thought but you could try deleting the AUTORUN file in the 2577 folder, ya know, since you don't want it to Autorun or anything.
I removed the Autorun and indeed it did not interrupt the new ROM update.
When I placed the Autorun back it tried to run but gave an error. I found out that the copilot.wmppc.cab file is deleted after install so I had to copy that over and then it installed. As I installed to memory card again, it picked up the keys.
For next rev I am doing a pre-install and post-install registry compare. I will add the registry edits to my XDA_UC file and also copy the link across to the Windows folder to see if I can just upgrade the ROM with no install needed.
Anyone know why this 'shouldn't' work before I try it?

Cyanogenmod Virtual SDCard different from stock

Hello all,
After switching to cyanogenmod, I noticed that items are stored in a different directory. This resulted in a complete data loss on first boot. I was able to move over some folders from /system/media to get my data back, but it seems that these directories are somehow linked. (Deleting files/folders from one deletes the others)
What is the best way to correct this and get rid of these oddities?
I am fairly adept with ADB commands, so I just need to know why this issue exists, and if I need to somehow remove some symlinks.

Sweet, so this one will start binding automatically on reboot huh? Gonna try.
UPDATE:
Doesn't work mate, i tried "$bind $extsd/mangabird $intsd/mangabird", but it says "/mangabird: not found". The log said "sdcard not found".
For me to no working. Log says all ok. But when i copy some to internal Download, i dont see this file in external Download.
$bind $extsd/.fbind/Download $intsd/Download

I reboot twice.

Ok, your issue is simple, mate. If the log says, "SD card not found! Aborting..." try a higher number of seconds. That means your device just takes a little bit longer to mount the external SD card. I've added several zips, each with a different number of seconds to the Downloads page. Try the 15 seconds variant. As you may have noticed, the sooner the bind is performed, the better. I'm currently working on a way to automate that and have only one variant for all devices, regardless of mounting time.

Hmm... have you created the target folders manually in the external SD card? @khnoizer, see here? In his case, the SD card is mounted within the 10 seconds mark. Thanks both of you for the reports.
Yes. I created folder Download in extcard.

Code:
$bind $extsd/.fbind/Download $intsd/Download
means you must have the following:
Download folder in your internal SD card
.fbind folder (yes, with the dot) in your external SD card with a Download folder inside of it
is that your setup?
I got permission denied or write error when saving my edited fbind_list.txt on various text editor. Any suggestions?

You can copy the file to another location, edit it, then replace the old one. Alternatively, running chmod 777 /data/media/0/fbind_list.txt in a terminal emulator before edition the file should also help. The next version will fix fbind_list.txt permissions automatically upon installation.
Edit: @khnoizer, I use QuickEdit. It asks for root permission in your case to work properly.
Edit 2: sorry, the link is fixed now.

Yes, but unlike FolderMount, it saves your settings and runs on boot.
@op can you tell me if I bind my download folder(size 5gb) then my internal memory in storage settings will show less then 5gb size or stroage setting still include 5gb in total used memory?
The new version are great, thank you. However, when I tried to bind my android/obb folder, it does got mounted at data/media/0/android/obb, but It's empty at mnt/storage/emulated/0/android/obb. And when I tried to play some games they asked me to download their obb files.

Here's what you need to do to bind OBB:
1. Install the OBB fix update
2. You don't need to copy your setup to the newer fbind_list.txt this time. Just delete that file and rename your previous_fbind_list.txt back to fbind_list.txt (there are no changes in the template. I just forgot to disable the auto backup/renaming)
3. Add the following lines to fbind_list.txt:
Code:
$bind $extd/Android/obb/YourAppOrGameOBBFolder $obb/YourAppOrGameOBBFolder
$bind $extd/Android/obb/YourAppOrGameOBBFolder $intsd/Android/obb/YourAppOrGameOBBFolder
Or, if you want to bind the entire OBB folder, the following lines are already present in the template (fbind_list.txt) by default:
Code:
$bind $extd/Android/obb $obb
$bind $extd/Android/obb $intsd/Android/obb
4. Reboot
That's a lot of text, I know. Everything will be much simpler in the next version. Stay tuned!

That's still an ongoing issue, unfortunately. However, it has nothing to do with the module. Rather, that's a system problem, since other apps don't misreport storage space. I'll look for a workaround.

i tried your fix, for pairing entire obb, internal pairs to extsd but /sdcard/Android/obb appears to have vanished but I believe it is there because trying to re-create directory results in an error. if I start up a game however, it aplears to be aware of the game data existence but the game freezes. strange?
let me know is you need any specific files, perhaps fstab?

Please help i’ve tried everything else

Hello is there any ethical hacker out there or at least one who could help me with my current situation. I own a Nokia 8 which I bought last year. My error is that I immediately placed the sd card of my old phone samsung j7 to the newly purchased phone not knowing it has a virus, I noticed my old phone doing crazy things when I factory reset it. Since it is rooted, the virus seemed to have taken hold of all system apps and has been updating itself and i recently noticed something fishy with my nokia 8, I tried chatting with support before but they just dismissed it. What I did exactly was to delete the folders that keep reproducing on the files folder of my nokia 8 it contained about 6 gb before and as I kept deleting it, I noticed that all my Photos 40 GB to be exact became 23gb and as i kept deleting the 1 kb files in the file folder I also deleted a DCIM folder but I think it was not thre DCIM for pictures since it was placed in unknown folders. I tried all kinds of recovery even windows based but it seems like there was nothing deleted as it would have been scanned, and it keeps saying that I need to root it. I don’t want to root it because I might give unlimited power to the hacker or to whatever virus is doing this. Please I need help desperately thanks. All my Photos and files were deleted.
So, you have described your problem. But you did not tell nothin about what exactly you want to someone helped you with. What kind of help you are expect from the community? To repare your data? Or to kill the virus? Or maybe to cure the phone? The best way in your situation is Factory reset for phone (without SD-card) and formatting the SD-card by any tool or even Windows formatting function. If the data is need to be repared try to format the card firstly, than scan it by the R-studio or similar software for search deleted files. Most of the tools of this kind have an options to scan for the concret data like the photos, music etc. Use this option to find all kinds of images and repare it to your hard drive. As I understood from your post you have the PC virus lives at your card? Or it is Android malware? Its very difficult to help you remotely. Nobody knows what exactly happened with your card and with your phone. If the data is not very imortant for you just format the card and the phone (reset it to factory defaults) and scan your PC for viruses for more sureness.

The advice I gave you is general in nature and is not required to be executed exactly. Better find among your friends or colleagues someone who understands computers and ask him to help you understand your situation. It will be most right to do.

I removed my sd card. All my photos, videos and files are in the phone memory. I want to recover at least all the photos and videos. I have not deleted them I only deleted the files in the files folder. I’m still unsure of what happened either there as a virus or my phone was hacked since it was tampered with. I guess people were interested in deleting my recordings and photos or proof
You completely confused me. Put your card into card-reader and copy all data to PC. Then scan the card for deleted files without filter. Recover all of them to hard drive then sort recovered files which are needed and which are not. Then format the card by any formatting tool. Copy all important data from your phone to PC to safe place and do factory reset on the phone. It will destroy all data including the possible virus or whatever it was. Do not store the important data on the mobile. Do not forget to remove google account before doing factory reset, because the first start after the reset will tell that the phone is locked to account and will ask to enter login/password. If the account will be romoved before the reset you`ll be proposed to setup the mobile as a new one - like you just bought it. That`s all I can to advice to you.
I’m sorry, i meant to say. That my photos and videos are in the phone memory not in the sd card. What I think the virus did is to hide all my photos. My lock screen images, gboard images, and wallpaper is still there which means the photos were not deleted.
As I said - use the card-reader to explore the files on your card. Enable "Show hidden files" in Explorer to see all of data of the card. You will be able to copy files to PC even if the status is "hidden". Then uncheck attribute hidden in fole properties on eache file. Then format your card as mentioned above.
You can do the same except the formatting with the phone memory. I mean copy important files from phone to PC and "unhide" them.
Make the batch file with .cmd extention with this text:
attrib -S -H /D /S
Save it to folder containing your hidden files and execute it. It will unhide all the files in folder and you will see them in Explorer

It`s probably your PC is contaminated by virus that makes your files hidden, so scan it by antivirus with latest bases.

The problem is that the virus/hijacker has manged to hide it all. It shows as blank. All of my files even my music, only apps are working , but not doing their part. I checked with Sophos Security ( antivirus installed) that most of stock and even pre-installed apps have been modified like for example google play services : other permissions
-android.permission.USE_CREDENTIALS - no description
-android.permission.MANAGE_ACCOUNTS - no desription
-android.permission.READ_PRIVILEGED_PHONE_STATE - nod description
android.permission.ALLOCATE_AGGRESSIVE - no description
android.permission.CONNECTIVITY_USE_RESTRICTED_NETWORKS -no description
I have about 30 other permissions which are bothersome.

Ok. I said above that you can explore your files via USB cable from PC, if there no files are visible, so you can to try to enable show hidden files in options of folder: Control Panel->Explorer parameters (it may be another name in English, I`m Russian and use a Russian locale in Windows)->View-> in the end of list see check-box "Show hidden files, folders and disks". Now you must be able to see hidden files in phone memory. Copy all of them to you PC and do the script as mentioned above. put it to folder with the hidden files and run it. It will unhide all files in the folder. You can do th same with the files from SD card. Now your data is OK. After all procedures you can format the card and reset your mobile to factory reset - it will delete all possible virus or whatever it was and your phone will work well as it must to. SD card wil be clear after formatting and apps will save and use their data properly. Use it as usual. Keep your data on PC - this is much more safe then mobile.
upd.
Run Notepad copy this text
attrib -S -H /D /S
paste it to Notepad, save the file unhide.cmd, for example - it is simple Windows command line script that cleans files attributes like "hidden" "system" or "read only".

Oh. I don’t know what happened. Malwarebytes says the ransomware protection was turned off and I have the old virus I had before, I don’t know if the virus I have was the one from the Phone, which seems to be cross-platform already. Is it okay to do the show hidden files or should I format my computer first. This is so frustrating.
What is Malwarebyte? Do "Show hiddin files". You need to backup your media, right? Do it. Media files does not victim for viruses. They are probably clean. Anyway copy files if it possible.
