Hi all,
Please help me out!
I have a note 8 with (N950U) - XAA/XAA/SPR - and I have not received a single OTA update!
I used the firmware science method to install a few updates and flashed (using Odin) when Oreo was released.
But now I want to solve this issue and start receiving OTA updates. I do not mind using Odin again to get this sorted - but preferable not lose my data.
Thank you
AM
Are you using it in the US on a US carrier?

Then that's probably why you're not getting OTAs.

Any Solutions??
I have tried looking for update on a US VPN but again, no result.
You think a change of region - SPR to something else will solve this issue?
Thnx
You have a branded device but not linked with any carrier in US. Change your firmware to an unbranded one and from CRL2 you will receive the last oreo stable CSA1 or you can download the firmware directly from an app like Updato from Google Play and wait that a beta stable on pie will be released.

Ok, this is the first guide as reference:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74087672&postcount=4
Odin Tool normal just in case you need it:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=818070582850505662
I used the patched version:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=890129502657595813
Last Oreo Odin rom available:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397886161
Staying in this version you have to theoretically receive updates from OTA

Thank you i am going to try this.
Question, the guide says "Note - If you are flashing Unlocked Firmware from Carrier Firmware you must use Prince Comsy Odin otherwise, use regular Odin."
So, in my case i am going from a 950U firmware to 950U1, should i use odin or prince comsy odin? and is there a way to keep my data? or will it be reset for sure?

Use the modded Odin mentioned.
You can keep your data but in this case you will go to switch to a different firmware so is better that you do a backup with SmartSwitch and them go to recovery, do a format/factory reset , then in Odin flash the firmware, reboot and restore your data

Great I will do a full reset. But when you say modded Odin is the prince comsey Odin?
try restoring your phone's firmware using Samsung Smart Switch.

I'm not sure what exactly is Comsy, I read about it but I guess this was an older version, I used the patched version linked in one of my previous posts and works like a charm. I switch from N950U to N950U1 and I had any trouble doing this procedure. About keep your data if you use Home_CSC you will preserve it but you need to delete your old CSC that is where go the preferences of a carrier, so you have to use CSC_oyn file instead

If you are not using a Sprint sim and your device is not a locked carrier (under contract) this message can't appear.
If you follow all the steps, factory resetting first in recovery, then flashing the CRL2 firmware including CSC_oyn then the bloat from the carrier has to be deleted.
It's probably too that you backed up settings with Smart Switch and then restored it, if this is the case try by factory resetting again and restore your backup but not your settings, also check any app related with sim provider that you backed up avoiding restore it.
Need help please

Im fairly new to the OTA and manual OS flashing thing. I dont understand any CRL2 or 3 whatever it is.. I would really appreciate if i could get a step by step guide about how to do it since im going to be making a transition from Nougat to Oreo (Or pie of possible). Please please i would really appreciate your help. as i dont want to brick my phone and i dont know what to do.

Well, the steps are in all the thread.
Let´s go for the obvious first; I guess actually you are not using a sim card from US so you are out of US now and then no need on any carrier´s bloat.
You need first of all switch to an unbranded firmware, it´s mean from N950U to N950U1.
If you are actually on nougat then flash this firmware that is the latest Oreo since you can upgrade after to Pie https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397886161 Use this modded Odin to flash it https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=890129502657595813
Process to flash through Odin and switch correctly to unbranded firmware:
- First of all backup your important data using SmartSwitch (you can do it on a SDCard inside your device)
- Enable USB Debugging in developer options and OEM unlock if present.
- Go to recovery and Factory Reset/Format Data.
- Then use menu "Reboot to bootloader" to go to download mode.
- Load the files on Odin and from the two CSC choose CSC_OYN to delete/reset all the preferences, start flashing and wait PASS message.
- Reboot normally to system.
From here to upgrade to Pie go to this site https://firmware.science and complete the following: Model number: SM-N950U1 (this will be from now your model number), in Current version put the firmware ended with CRL2 (the firmware that you flashed previously) and download the first Beta ended on CSAB; move the zip onto your device and go to recovery and flash it using Update from sdcard (this could be wipe again your data).
If you want to update to the second Beta repeat the previous process; complete as Current version: firmware ended on CSAB and choose and download firmware ended on CSBB (less sized).
And finally to go to the last Beta available do the same, Current version; firmware ended on CSBB and download firmware ended on ZSC2 and flash it again using recovery updater.
It could be more Betas but not available yet on Firmware.science.
From beta firmware it´s unlikely that you receive OTA but when an Official Pie be release theoretically you have to receive them normally or if you want to receive them just now then you have to stay on Oreo CRL2 you´ll receive an Oreo OTA update CSA1 (more or less 40MB) and wait from there that an official Pie will be release.
First of all thanks a lot for getting back to me so quick i really appreciate it. Yes youre right about not using the US sim card. If you could just bare with my rookie questions a bit more.
Do i download the "firmware" and modded odin into my note 08 by following your shared links or do i have to download them into PC. If phone, then shud it be on SD card or internal storage?
Second, """Go to recovery and Factory Reset/Format Data.
- Then use menu "Reboot to bootloader" to go to download mode.
- Load the files on Odin and from the two CSC choose CSC_OYN to delete/reset all the preferences, start flashing and wait PASS message.
- Reboot normally to system."""
I only know how to enable developer mode. Thats when you tap built number. But debugger and OEM idk that. And everything you mentioned in """ how do i do it ? Whats to be done on PC and what on computer i have no clue. Youll have to guide me like a child about this i apologise.
Judging by your pie statements. Thats very techincal to do. So i believe its better off going for Oreo for now and wait for the Pie update automatically.
Thanks in advance

The first firmware linked at Android File Host is Oreo, this firmware you have to flash it using Odin so download it with your pc and put it in any place of your preference onto your pc DON´T move it to your device.
Second, """Go to recovery and Factory Reset/Format Data.

This is indicated to make a clean flash, to delete/reset some APN preferences and some traces that came preinstalled with this device linked to a carrier.
- Then use menu "Reboot to bootloader" to go to download mode.
- Load the files on Odin and from the two CSC choose CSC_OYN to delete/reset all the preferences, start flashing and wait PASS message.
- Reboot normally to system."""

Unzip the firmware that you downloaded till get some files in .tar format, within these files you´ll find two CSC files, choose the CSC_OYN file and not the CSC_HOME on the CSC box and all the other files load them on every corresponding box: BL, AP, CP that you´ll find in Odin.
I only know how to enable developer mode. Thats when you tap built number. But debugger and OEM idk that. And everything you mentioned in """ how do i do it ? Whats to be done on PC and what on computer i have no clue. Youll have to guide me like a child about this i apologise.

No, I refer to OEM unlock option but I forgot that this option is not visible in this variant so forget it, just enable Developer Options and USB Debugging that you will find them then to tap on build number 7 times.
Here´s a tutorial about how to use Odin https://androidmtk.com/flash-samsung-stock-rom-using-odin just replace some step by the indicated here.
Judging by your pie statements. Thats very techincal to do. So i believe its better off going for Oreo for now and wait for the Pie update automatically.

Really is not so hard to do all this but if you´re not so familiar you can flash just the firmware linked and wait for an OTA prompt update.

Oh, OK.
Messed up CSC configuration causes this error. Try this;
Flash the latest Odin-Flash available FW via Odin. After you've flashed, do factory reset from stock recovery. Then, when the phone boots up, just reboot to bootloader and flash the latest Odin-Flash available FW via Odin again. When the phone boots up, do factory reset from Settings application. After the phone boots up, try to install update via ADB.

We have to wait until ATT makes it available to get the OTA or update via Smart Switch.
There's another thread in here on how to use Odin and load MM, but it's not the 'official' way.

Can jump from version G925AUCS5DPK5 to this version ? when flash is stuck in odin, is there any way to do it, stays in file analysis for a long time but does not load, any idea how to fix it?:crying:
Here's everything I've tried
1) Change USB port
2) Administrator mode
4) Rebooted phone
5) rebooted computer
...... any other idea ?
Does this require a phone to be on a specific version before flashing? Just want to be sure everything is good to go before moving forward.

Now it´s working, I unzip all 4 files to md5, and then load the ROM successfully, but it stuck on black screen for about 30 min and never started, I had to go down to the previous version now with imei corrupt and now my cell phone no longer has signal, I do not know what went wrong or where I was wrong?
I flash this files in my g925aucu4dph5 phone, I will upgrade to nougat? What about ADB files? Do you have a video tutorial to this process?
just received my g925a 128GB version, currently has the build number LMY47X.G925AUCU3BOJ7, can i use Odin 3.10.6 and just flash this on it after zipping all 4 files down to md5? (bl, ap, cp, csc)??/
I'mgoing to assume it will not b rootabe after this? If so, to what firmware can i. should i update to so that I may root as flash some other ROM? What I really want to accomplish is just rid myself of all the AT&T bloat, as I do not use AT&T.......and would like to be a more newer version of android then 5.1.1
excuse of it seems nubish, but been using OnePlus One for 3 years now, and stumbled upon getting this phone on a great deal on getting this phone for $240.....so new to the samsung scene, but not to the rooting/bootloading unlocking flashing scene....
Also saw that another poster lost his storage flashing odin....something not cool on a 128gb device and another lost his imei....not cool either
Thanks for the update! Worked beautifully. Now waiting for may update.
Once you load these are we supposed to get updates from ATT? I ask b/c when I hit update it never finds anything and I don't have the most current OS I have the previous to current using these methods to update
has anybody done this without losing original storage or imei??? have a 128GB att edge and would not want this error to occur on mine...still in 5.1.1 build OJ7....

You cannot install TWRP or root it via flashing SuperSU because the bootloader is locked on at&t model.

I had a feeling that was happening because all steps mention something about OEM unlocking and I wasn't able to do that.
Is this version rootable or am I stuck with this?

From what I'm reading it appears that AT&T's 7.x isn't rootable...
The baseband version I got is G920AUCS7ERC1. Can I downgrade the phone to Android v 6.x and then root or am I totally locked out of this phone and should look to get something different?

You cannot downgrade to previous version. If you want to root phones and install custom roms always buy the internation model (european) with exynos chipset

Thank's for clearing this up for me. I didn't buy this phone, rather I got it as a replacement when I filed an insurance claim, meaning I had no control over what they sent me. What is the main thing I should look for when I get another replacement?
How do I do this? Is there written step by step instructions?

Click on the 'BL' button, then choose the file that starts with "BL" inside your extracted firmware folder. Next, click on the 'AP' button and choose the AP file inside your extracted firmware folder. Click on the 'CP' button, choose the CP file inside your extracted firmware and finally click on the 'CSC' button, choose CSC file inside your extracted firmware and click START
Actually you can downgrade to 6.0.1 and any Revision aka BIT 5 firmware. The reason for this is that the Rev 7 or 7.0 Firmware has the same bootloader firmware as 6.0.1 as long as its BIT 5 aka Rev 5 Firmware you are flashin. Also use Odin 3.13.3 SHAE 256 Fix_ATT_Verizon. PrinceComsy Odin may work as well. But I have done several of these downgrades on G920A with no issues-

Flash this combination file in the AP section in Odin https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=1ZHcN_h2mzFjZpnkea5hbJycofIezoeW5
After that the phone should boot up, go to settings and do a factory reset from there.
And now flash this firmware again (G920AUCS7ERC1) and the protection should be removed completely

Okay, I will do. Thank you for everything.
I Downloaded The Fw From Sammobile, Yes Its Was Very Slow, Thats Why I Re-upped It Untouched To Androidfilehost, Much Faster To Dl For Others.
Only For Snapdragon Variants, Its The Universal Firmware, Its Free Of Carrier Bloat But Has Some Samsung Useless Apps.
Not For Exynos Variants Like The Sm-g935f, Etc.
MORE ABOUT UNIVERSAL FW READ THIS
The Zip Has The Att Extension But All Universal Snapdragon Fw Are The Same Afaik, It Does Not Install Anything Specific For Att,
Im On Telus/koodo Using The Sm-g935a Without Issues, Shows Lte Signal When On Data Mode.
Idk If Auto Updates Work, Although Update Options Are Available From The System Menu
Instructions:
Dl Zip, Extract Zip, Put Phone In Dl/odin Mode. Run Odin As Admin, And Load Each Cp, Ap, Bl And Csc(Dont Use The Home Csc As I Read Its Fracks Things Up), Just Use "Csc_oym" File In Odin
Fyi. I Used Princes Odin But Failed, Used Untouched Odin And It Flashed Successfully. Was On Nougat 7.0 Sim Unlocked SM-G935A At&t Branded Stock Fw. I Included Both For Your Pleasure.
Afaik It Will Wipe Your Phone, Do A Backup As Needed
make a backup by using adb, search for this method, and a twrp nandroid
always make a backup, and never just one, and save them somewhere safe in multiple locations and clouds, hard drives die all the time

Hi Vincom, yes i have already read the article. the main reason im flashing the rom is because of the hidden DATA icon in the toggle screen. and also i want my phone to have the OREO update as well. this is my first samsung phone. i have experience in flashing ROMs in my xiaomi redmi 1s phone. so im a bit skeptical if i can do this on my own. this odin process is very new to me. so what is the worst thing that can happen it i brick my phone? can i do a hard reset and will it default to the stock AT&T ROM if ever?

odin is as easy as it gets, its made for samsung phones.
safe is to do nothing if ur happy as is.
NEVER EVER USE THE "PIT" OPTION UNLESS DIRECTIONS SAY SO IN XDA FORUM ONLY

yes and no, csc controls what bloatware and which settings are setup by default dependant on carrier and country, hence why this is a universal fw and not dependant on original csc files.
if u truly have the att s7edge g935a, which is what i had, then yes.

i finally finished downloading the zip file earlier. i will flash it later after i go home from work. and one other thing i need to make sure. with this Oreo rom, the DATA connection icon will be available in the toggle screen right?
@vincom, this Oreo rom has already the DATA icon to be toggled on/off right? this is one of the reason i want to flash the att rom as well.

I did read all of it but your description was vague on the att part so I didnt know if you modified it which it sounds like its just the 935u firmware and Im not a newb n00b
@vincom, initially got an error sha256 when i started to flash it. and my phone started to boot loop after i use a different odin, the prince odin. but after some searching. i fount out i just need to use the newer patch version of odin - Odin3 v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD and now im running Oreo on my s7 edge. hopefully this can help others too.

yup i tried that one the first time. thats when it gave me the error message sha256. then i tried the prince odin that gave me the error mmc something.
The author claims performance and battery improvements but has anyone that switched over really noticed that big of a improvement?
I mean i already disabled all the carrier bloat with adhell isn't that basically the same as installing this rom? Does the universal maybe have a different kernal/different system level tweaks?
Bro , what will happen if my unlocked at&t s7edge installing this ? Is there sim will be locked again or not ? Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english...

Thanks a lot, this firmware works for me with the 3b patched odin on the first try.
Hello all, I was trying to find a way to turn on WiFi calling on my Unlocked Samsun Note 9. I found a couple articles saying that I need to flash the phone for this to be possible? While I have never done this before I'm willing to try but I don't want to screw it up. Could someone help me find the proper version to get my wifi calling back? I don't mind the garbage Verizon installs as long as I could get my Wifi calling.
I found a couple other articles but I was confused and I want to make sure that I install the proper version. As it is in the title, my phone is a SM-N960U1, unlocked running on Verizon currently.
Thanks
Use the SamFirm tool to download load the most recent VZW firmware, then use parched ODIN 3.13.1_3B to flash it to your device. This will wipe your device so make sure you back everything up.

Thanks for the reply. Why use SamFirm instead of Odin? Or perhaps I am not understanding the process?
one downlaods the dirmware.
the other flashes it to your ohone.

SamFirm to download it
ODIN to flash it.
So you actually use both. And. You can download the firmware on different websites, but the SamFirm tool is SO much quicker. That's why I always recommend it. You can find rhr tool and instructions on how to use it with a Google search.
