Hi, im new to Note 5 Dev. and been out of the loop since it was released. i had a Sony Xperia play and a Galaxy s3 before and know how to do the basic stuff to do custom roms and flash stuff etc. to those Phones. But a Note 5 is different, running on Lollipop, having EFS partition stuff and OEM unlock Stuff. i just want to ask a few questions to make sure i don't do something stupid (i already did some of the research for answers on some of this for a few days now and some are Informative and Awesome, but a little outdated) so tnx in advance kind People :fingers-crossed:
My Device: SM-N920C (UAE)
Android Ver: 5.1.1 (Lollipop) Stock
Questions:
1.) Can i Revert back to 5.1.1 (lollipop) stock/ [Downgrade] , IF i decided to update to Nougat Stock?? (just curious ) and if yes, can you kindly link me to a process? if not, then that's fine too
2.) Do you have to Enable OEM unlock if Updating Stock (in my case Nougat)??
I red somewhere on Magisk thread here on XDA that it can Grant Root Access to 5.0+ . If so, installing TWRP and Flashing Magisk on 5.1.1 involves Enabling USB Debugging and OEM Unlock.
3.) Do i have to Enable OEM Unlock Forever now? cause i saw some threads says that if you disable it, you will have a bootloop or a soft brick and will have to Flash Stock again and repeat. (don't really have a problem with it being Enabled, but the other people in Tutorials , Vid. Tutorials and Thread Posts just mentions "Enable it". And never really says after the process is done u can Disable it and stuff.), just want to have that information, cause i Understand that OEM is a LOCK that Even if someone steals your phone and has a lock in it. they can't just Flash a Stock Rom on it to Unlock it. [great feature] :fingers-crossed:
4.) if i have a Custom Recovery and Rooted my phone ver. 5.1.1 successfully, can i still Unroot it and go back to Stock 5.1.1?? also applies to other Versions of android. EX. nougat Stock then i root it, will i still unroot it and go back to stock?
5.) Do you need to be in a Specific Version of android to use the Custom Roms?? i mean i'm in android 5.1.1 [if rooted], can i flash a Nougat Custom Rom or a s8 port etc.?? or do i need to be in Stock Nougat > Root it > then flash Custom Nougat Roms?
That is all, Sorry if all the Questions are Freakin Long Shahaha, i just want to be specific so all the people who are also newbies can understand the questions and have answers. Tnx again for the people who have the patience to read and answer these questions. :highfive:

1)If you flash stock 7.0 on your device if available then its hard to revert to back to stock 5.1.1 as there is thread in Question&Answers section about downgrading from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1 but many are unsuccessful(I have successfully downgraded from 7.0 to 6.0.1 but Cant confirm about 5.1.1 as google has changed many security policies in updates versions like 6.0.1 or 7.0 which will block your bootloader to downgrade easily/Issue you will face like lossing of baseband or corrupt imei which will block you from receiving network signal)
2)Yes its very important to enable Oem unlock and usb debugging while flashing any stock firmware using odin to avoid DM-Verity/SW Check Fail/Custom Binary blocked by FRP like issues which are hard to solve enough OR you will might hard brick your device which will be difficult to make it live again( AFAIK to flash TWRP or Any root access using odin there is instruction to enable Oem Unlock before flashing always remember it as a essential step before flashing anything using odin)
3)Yes once you enable Oem unlock for purpose of modification of your device, it needs to be unlocked or even its enabled by default to overcome reported issue like infinite bootloop or Many i mentioned in my 2nd Post And Oem unlock allows your bootloader to be customised by flashing mods or roms which is by default locked so that you could not easily modify your device as well as to avoid further modification issues
4)If you choose to stay at 5.1.1 and rooted your device with installed TWRP then yes you can unroot it by flashing 5.1.1 using odin( In case your on 6.0.1 or Even on 7.0 you can unroot your device with the same process but here to remind you that you need to flash stock 6.0.1 or 7.0 respectively version on which you rooted your device So if you will try to unroot it by flashing 5.1.1 again while your on 7.0 rooted device then again here downgrade issue which will probably give you mentioned error as a result)
5)To use custom nougat based roms or any S8+ port based on 7.0 you should atleast upgrade your bootloader and modem to 6.0.1( If your rooted on 5.1.1 and try installing nougat roms then your device will not boot as your using old bootloader, so upgrade bootloader or modem either to 6.0.1 or you can update whole system to 7.0>root>install TWRP>flash custom nougat based roms or s8+ ports afterall choice is your as if you want to upgrade only BL and Modem to 6.0.1 or want to upgrade system with BL and Modem to 7.0, i will mention here is BL and Modem for 7.0 are also available to flash you can find those on dr.ketan rom n10 installation instruction section in Samsung galaxy note 5>Android development>Dr.ketan Rom N10 instead of whole system update but Flashing Stock full firmware is always recommended for good reception and avoid glitches)
I think i have tried to fulfil all of your queries as far possible by myself
Regards,
AssassinCreed-Xda Developers
Too bad about the answer to the 3rd question, that feature would've been nice to have. but oh well. shahahaha
~Ooh!! i have a follow up question regarding your Answer to the 4th question. Can i also flash other Countries Stock firmware?? for example: mine is Stock 5.1.1 [UAE] can i flash Stock 5.1.1 [USA] or other Country variants?? [of course unlocked bootloader] , i searched again here for people who did that and for some reason they encounter Errors and Unable to revert back to their Original Stock Firmwares.
@AssassinCreed Thank you. yup, clear cut answers. Thank you!! :victory: :victory:

Are the pictures that bad? Both cameras? I do not think oreo has something to do with it, the forum would be flooded with the issue, it must be something else, check carefully
Yes, i think so, because i often take picture so i find some diffrent between android 8.0 and 7.1.1.. Dual camera often has noise.
You should be able to flash back to Nougat no problem as long as you flash Nougat FW with v3 bootloader.

Yes, BRA8 should work. I haven't tried for myself as I don't want to install Oreo yet but in the past I have "downgraded" fine as long as bootloader version is the same. I have seen others going back to Noguat from Oreo so it is possible.

Oh, now that I really don't know. OEM lock shouldn't matter whether off or on. You should be able to flash stock FW without OEM unlock on. If it's on then it should definitely work. Worse that will happen is it won't flash so it won't hurt to try.
Now whether you will loose OEM after flashing back to Noguat I don't know. I rarely flash in Odin, I only use Odin to flash TWRP, after that I do on my flashing in TWRP. My phone doesn't suffer from the 7 day thing so I don't have any experience with loosing OEM.

Ah I see. Just try with it off. I don't think you need it on to flash official firmware. But I know I have flashed official firmware fine with it on. I haven't turned it off since I first turned it on the day I got my phone.

Download COMBINATION_FA71_N950FXXU3ARA5_CL12991683_QB16751804_REV00_user_mid_noship.tar.md5

Flash to this rom,

Or just try to flash to 7.1.1 directly, should works because it's not test firmware, you are allowed to flash back to 7.1.1

OEM Unlock can be on or off when you use odin to flash firmware. It doesn't matter either way. OEM Unlock is only when flashing custom stuff.
You really should not need to use Combination Firmware when downgrading from OREO to NOUGAT as long as you are using the right bootloader. BRA8 I thnk is the is the most recent NOUGAT and you can just flash that bootloader and you should be fine. I did it and it wasn't a problem.
I used to have root on my phone but decided to flash stock rom again. then while on stock rom, software update popped up. my software was updated to july patch CRG1. Then i want to root again. When you flashed stock rom and it updated did you check to see if OEM unlock toggle was available in developer options?
Might now have to wait 7 days or try the trick that's been posted somewhere on xda.... think has something to do with changing the system time and checking for update (I think).
Yep once upgraded to bootloader v4 No More going back to bl.v3 v2 or v1 bootloaders.
I tried the trick of setting the date 7 days or even 1 month backwards. OEM is ticked already. and if i go to Download mode , OEM IS OFF. the last time i flashed stock rom, even without waiting for 7 days i can flash twrp without any problem. And now even OEM is already unlocked, cant install twrp

Okay folks, took forever to find, but we finally have it, the T-Mobile OnePlus 6T MSMDownloadTool, your brick savior, bootloader relocker, among other things, I will include a basic faq at the end.
Requirements:
1. Windows PC
2. OnePlus 6T - T-Mobile Version ONLY (It will fail otherwise).
3. Zip linked below, unzip and keep all files within the same folder.
Steps to restore are as follows:
1. Open up your working folder and run MsmDownloadTool V4.0.exe
2. Power off the device, unplugged from the working pc.
3. Holding Volume up and down together, plug the device into the working pc (device should now show up in the tool, if it doesn't you may need the qualcomm usb drivers)
4. Once your device shows up, hit start and sit tight, device will reboot upon completion.

A. Yes.
Q. Does my bootloader have to be locked or unlocked?
A. Works on either.
Q. Will this work when I updated to 10.0?
A. Yes, it will work regardless, but will bring you back to 9.0 v1.
Huge Thanks to:
@BIGWORM
@hartleyshc for providing info/support
@strictlyphat for the same
@mauronofrio and @OzzieSan for providing v2.
Thanks to @themustached for decryption and @Some_Random_Username for the tool, version 9.0.13
For those wondering about this, this will recover from pretty much any software error. It will not recover hardware failure. The Qualcomm EDL partition is part of the SoC and is not writable. If you cannot boot into it by holding all three buttons, then you have a hardware failure. Either with your buttons, or with your board.
Hooray!!
Will be using this very soon!
Thanks for this!!
Might want to add to the post what version this brings you back to. The original 9.0, or 9.0 v2. (Whatever the build date is, I think 11/6?)
Edit: looked at the zip. Looks to be the original 9.0, which is perfect.
@Haz3 get in here!!! good luck brah
Thank you???
Youre the real hero
Seriously, where do people get a hold of these tools? From OnePlus? Or T-Mobile? Was it leaked internally? Genuinely asking.
Second question: What if my phone is originally a T-Mobile phone that was flashed to the 9.0.5 update to make it international. All went successful. Then a few days later I screwed up and updated via OTA (a partial OTA) and brick the device. Would I use this TMobile msm tool, or the international one?

Quick question, I have now 9.0 V2 installed from the OTA but my Bootloader is unlocked, yes It installs new updates when the BL is unlocked but only without any modifications to the ROM or anywhere, anyways back to my question, I wanna re-lock the BL, using this tool I'll be downgrade to 9.0 V1 and I guess it will re-lock the BL, but will I be able to update right away back to 9.0 V2? Will it probably install and the device will be like brand new out of the box? Or the tool will fail on me since I have a newer version? Or the tool will work the OTA after it will fail to install? Also this tool will definitely wipe the phone data, right?

My bootloader was unlocked, with random tmo 9.0 V1 rom installed, it would fail tmo ota Everytime. I had it rooted also, i unrooted. flashed back to international 9.0.5. ran tool, tool restored 9.0 V1 and locked the bootloader. Rebooted took ota after a couple fails now on 9.0 V2.
Just seems more snapier to me with the bootloader locked with 9.0 V2 as compared to 9.0.5

Hey, nice meeting you here now..lol this wasn't my questions! Sorry but I asked if it's possible to rub this tool if I'm already on 9.0 V2, #2 if the OTA will work after the tool is done, which you answered as a affirmative, thanks, #3 if it will wipe my device clean, #4 if this tool will make my device act as a brand new phone like out of the box.
Again I never flashed any ROMs or anything, just Bootloader unlocked and I got the OTA and it's installed now but my BL is unlocked and I wanna lock it

You don't need root, but the bootloader will need to be unlocked.
Unlocking the bootloader may cause certain apps like Banking Apps to stop working.
Because some apps check for things like that.
If you downgrade the firmware, do not allow OTA updates to install,
Your device will not update correctly. and may brick.

move the LMSA firmware to a different folder
rename the Android 10 firmware folder to the same name as LMSA firmware.
Move that folder to the LMSA download folder

There is no guarantee that either method will work, but it should.
I do not recommend relocking moto bootloaders, Even if you follow the directions for relocking
It can still go wrong, and you can end up with a non-working device.

use the rescue option to download the current firmware for your device
move the LMSA firmware to a different folder
rename the Android 10 firmware folder to the same name as LMSA firmware.
Move that folder to the LMSA download folder
Use the rescue option to flash renamed firmware.
There is no guarantee that either method will work, but it should.
I do not recommend relocking moto bootloaders, Even if you follow the directions for relocking
It can still go wrong, and you can end up with a non-working device.

thanks mate,
but this process seems so tedious for a novice like me..i am afraid of bricking my phone..although I have downloaded retin 8.0 Rom from lolinet source but I am not confident and may end up with a unusable device..

Many people have bricked their device trying to downgrade, by not doing it correctly.

yes u r absolutely right...actually i am a music lover and listen music a lot all day...after pie update the excellent audio quality (on oreo) has gone to hell and i am barely able to listen even the ringtone...otherwise i have no issues with pie...the only thing i want from my device is that excellent audio output back...
i uninstalled the pie dolby using adb and tried almost 40 apks from different sources..but no improvement.. that's why i thought it is the last resort to downgrade..
I have successfully (I think!) downgraded from the last Pie update to OPSS27.104-92-4, using RSD Lite 6.2.4 with these stipulations:
1. After unzipping the lolinet download I opened flashfile.xml with Notepad++ and deleted the lines for flashing gpt.bin and bootloader.img. See "More info" below. I then ran flashfile.xml as normal with RSD Lite.
2. Also following advice elsewhere, instead of flashing Oreo versions of adspso.bin and NON-HLOS.bin, I flashed the PIE versions instead.
(Actually I forgot about flashing the Pie version of NON-HLOS.bin at first, and my IMEI info showed as unknown. So after realizing this I rebooted to bootloader and manually flashed that file.)
Phone booted up the first time with no problems.
More info on "fixes" (which I personally have NOT fully tested yet, beyond getting my missing IMEI back):

Update March 23, 2019: I'd like to apologize to everyone. It looks like I am not going to be able to actively keep this thread updated like I used to. I have had too much going on at home an work and it doesn't look like it's going to settle...

... and the following post.
downgrade from PPS29.118-11-1 Pie
Just a heads up, If you have updated to Pie PPS29.118-11-1 and want to downgrade back to Oreo, Its not possible. Even without flashing the bootloader and gpt.bin files you will loose your carrier data, all mobile network settings will be greyed...

The adspso and NON-HLOS substitutions are also discussed elsewhere in this forum. Use search to get more info if desired.
Note: RSD Lite does not work with most Windows 10 Machines
Should work fine with most XP/7 Machines

Ah. I'm still "stuck" on Win 7 (very much by choice).
