Magisk is not installed (v18.1), and Manager denied superuser rights - Magisk

Hi,
I'm having a problem with Magisk 18.1. When I open Magisk Manager, I see the "Magisk is not installed" error message with the X in a red circle. However, Magisk Manager is up to date. I also get toast messages that say that "Manager was denied superuser rights". However, I'm able to get root in adb shell and entering "su".
If I refresh Magisk Manager by pulling down and releasing, then the following message:
Code:
Requires Additional Setup
Your device needs additional setup for Magisk to work properly. It will download the Magisk setup zip, do you want to proceed now?
Choosing "YES" will produce a "Setup failed." toast message. However, I see that now, "Magisk is up to date".
Despite this, I don't see the full set of Magisk settings (such as Magisk Hide, etc). Also, if I kill the process and reopen Magisk, I will get the same error message again.
I've tried downloading the Magisk v18.1 zip file and reflashing it in TWRP, but still no go.
Device: Nexus 5X with Android 6.0.1
Magisk: v18.1 (18100)
Magisk Manager: v7.0.0

Reflash stock rom and try to reflash if not work wait an update or try to downgrade version

Sounds like you've ended up with two conflicting Magisk Managers installed (one repackaged, one not). Like this: https://www.didgeridoohan.com/magisk/Magisk#hn_Updating_from_v18.0_to_v18.1

Thanks! That was exactly it!

I'm running into the same problem. No dual install of manager, either.
Happens on a fresh from-scratch install of v18.1 on a Moto X Pure

Same here, clean install of v18.1 on Mi Max 3 (MIUI 10.2.1.0)

FWIW the problem still exists in v19, with it happening multiple times a day now in 19.3

error as well v20.3 on Pocophone, Download and Install zip..installation error

go to settings>apps>magisk manager>allow storage permission.

Magisk update installation failed
I'm also having same problem with the latest update v20.4. I tried installing via Magisk app but it failed. I also tried flashing through recovery but same response.

I also had a similar issue, on a wiped phone. Magisk manager showing magisk not installed. However, using su from adb brought up a superuser request dialogue. I granted it, it hung for a minute, then when I reopened magisk manager it showed that magisk was successfully installed.

Uninstalled the Magisk Manager, and possibly also the hidden Manager (named "Manager" or whatever name you gave it) with the generic Android icon? And if you uninstalled both of them, installed the apk again manually?

nothing worked - wiped fone and reinstalled - magisk up and running again

Magisk - Rebooting resets Magisk Hide

Hi all,
So I've just flashed Oxygen OS 4.0.1 for the OnePlus3T, flashed SuperSU 2.79, downloaded Magisk from playstore, installed it, uninstalled SuperSU app. Root is working fine
Two green ticks, installed and properly rooted, but the SafteyNet failes. I read that you need to enable Magisk hide, so I do, and it tells me to reboot, so again I do, but the option keeps resetting/.
Anyone else having this issue/ has a solution?
There's been several users with OnePlus devices having problems with Magisk Hide. Might be a device specific issue that's not user solvable at the moment...
Edit: New info added to OP after my answer... Magisk Hide does not work with SuperSU.

That's a shame ./. I'll ask reddit
Thanks
I'm using phh's superuser and Magisk hide is working for me on the open beta and people seem to say that the current beta and the release versions are virtually the same, so it might be an issue with how SuperSU is handled.
afaik Magisk Hide needs phh's root, not SuperSU

Magisk Hide does NOT work with SuperSU. You have to use topjohnwu's phh's superuser that's provided with Magisk.

Nope, nope, nope. It's a problem with USERS who use magisk hide options. In THREAD is info about supersu + magisk hide = NOT WORKING. This is only fault of wrong su binaries, so it's not device specific issue.
And for this issue - probably flash a unsu script. It will (probably) delete all of supersu files, then in magisk manager or twrp flash modded phh binaries for magisk and then, finally install ph manager from google play. That is config to be able to use magisk hide.
ENJOY.

Not going to quote everyone, but YES! Removing SuperSU and using phh SU works just fine!

Cant find Enable Busybox in Magisk settings and ctsProfile not succesfull

Hello.
After many many reinstall of magisk I still cant find "Enable Busybox" in Magisk settings
I have "magisk core only mod" , "Magisk Hide" and "Systemless Host" BUT "Enable Busybox" is missing/not visible in my settings of Magisk.
I also got error when Safety Net check. Only bacisintegry is successfull. ctsProfile do not pass the test.
But, I can still download and update payed and free apps from Google Play Store.
Anyone what to do for getting "Enable Busybox" to be visible in my Magisk settings?
And, since ctsProfile not pass safetyscheck..can that be because for that missing "Enable Busybox" in settings?
Running lineageOS 14.1 and samsung J5 ( 2016 ) , SM-J510FN
Magisk 14.0
Regards
Rolf
Busybox: There is no toggle like that (hasn't been for some time). There's a Busybox module in the Downloads section of the Manager. Use that.
The failed ctsProfile check doesn't have anything to do with Busybox. Take a look here for more info on passing SafetyNet: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/guide-magisk-troubleshooting-t3641417
You don't need to pass SafetyNet to be able to download and install most apps. There are a few who use the Certified status in the Play store (Netflix) and some that won't function if you don't pass SafetyNet (Android Pay).

Thanks for responding and a celearly anwer Didgeridoohan
I will check that link about safetynet. Thanks
Anyway, I guess there are no point/neccesary installing Busybox module in Magisk when I already have Bysybox Pro installed on my device?
I have noticed that my Netflix will not load so hope I got that safetyNet up running in Magisk.

I thought with the newest version of magisk, busy box is integrated already? I ran a test and it states I have it and it's active but certain apks tell me it's not present in device when installing. Should I setup module in magisk also? Don't want to double stack anything.

If you wan't busybox for the rest of your system, install the busybox module from the Magisk repo.

Actually, in my case, the ctsProfile check does correlate with the busybox module. I am trying a new ROM on my galaxy s7 which doesn't contain a busybox, thus Viper4Android does not want to install its driver (and Busybox checker says "no"). ctsProfile did pass. After I downloaded the BusyBox module in Magisk Manager, cts doesn't pass, but basic integrity still does.

If you only need busybox for Viper4Android, try the awesome ViPER4Android FX module (available in the Magisk repo). It doesn't need busybox...
Yup, only vor Viper. I already installed this module (and also the seperate one for Magisk 14.0+), but the Viper app always wants to install the driver on its own again..

Judging from your two posts, I'd say something's wrong with your Magisk installation... Magisk log and magisk_debug.log (from /data) might show something interesting.
Jumping onto that thread as it seems to fit quite well.
If a Moderator feels the need for a new topic pls let me know.
Facts:
Android 6 with Magisk 12 and SuperSu 2.79/2.82 and Xposed 87 running fine for quite a time.
Only Magisk manager was updated inbetween a few times
Now with a few free days after christmas and all the new releases out, i went for an update session.
- cleaned supersu with 0smosis unSu
- TWRP flashed clean stock boot.img
- TWRP flashed Magisk 15.1. All good and seemed to work
Then i wanted to update to xposed v89.
The installer failed with "updater process ended with error 1"
Dug into the TWRP-Logs and found the following:
Code:
/tmp/updater: line 91: /data/adb/magisk/busybox: not found
! Unable to extract zip file!
Now it was time to inspect the Magisk-Log:
Code:
12-29 23:56:59.699 269 269 I Magisk : * Setting up internal busybox
12-29 23:56:59.700 273 273 E Magisk : execvpe failed with 2: No such file or directory
Interesting.
As i knew about the changes from 12->15 regarding internal busybox, i cleaned the Magisk Manager Cache as recommended somewhere
and wanted to go for the official module "Busybox for Android NDK 1.27.2".
After installing it showed up as "not available - please reboot"
I went for the logs again and found the following:
Code:
Installing Busybox_for_Android_NDK-1.27.2.zip
Busybox Installer Script by osm0sis @ xda-developers
Mounting...
Extracting files...
update-binary[109]: unzip: not found
Also a quick check of /data/magisk showed no signs of busybox.
Any hints where to dig deeper to get busybox (and unzipping in TWRP back ??
Time, a few Skills and Tools available.
Didnt attach the logs, cause those above are imho the only relevant facts.
If somebody needs sth specific to rule sth out, i will of course happily deliver them.
Thank everybody and keep up the good work !!

Sounds like your TWRP isn't up to the job... It's probably too old (info which would have been in the log ) or otherwise missing some features...
Updating TWRP or letting the Manager patch a boot image that you then flash manually are two possible solutions.
Thank you very much for the quick reply Didgeridoohan.
That is of course water on the mills of the "always include logs" - people. Apparently for a reason
TWRP Version is/was 3.02.
After you suggested patching the image from Magisk Manager, i tried that and got a quick and dirty "Failed".
But i realized that now the option "Direct Install (recommended)" was available.
It wasnt when i did the initial setup.
As i had nothing to loose, i tried that to reinstall and after the next reboot -
Bingo! Now the busybox binary is/was available and therefore the Busybox Module and consequently also Xposed respective everything which depends on unzipping/busybox works.
Strange - but somehow problem solved.
I didnt see anything in the TWRP changelogs from 3.02 up to 3.2.1 - but hey...
Hope that helps someone.
Greetings and a nice 2018 !

2 Solutions! Problem w/ MagiskHide being disabled after reboot/closing MagiskManager.

Magisk Hide (Masking Magisk SuperUser) - 2 Problems w/ Magisk Hide being disabled after reboot or closing Magisk Manager.
If you are using Magisk Manager and Magisk Root and are experiencing difficulty with Magisk Hide (Masking Magisk's SU) not showing in the Manager's side-menu or remembering its status in settings, it occurs when a file is not automatically deleted and removed.
PROBLEM:
Open Magisk Manager, Settings >> Enable Magisk Hide, close Manager, re-open and Magisk Hide is disabled and not visible (hidden) in the left side-menu. i.e. Exit, Close, Stop, Re-Open & Reboot Reset's Magisk Hide's State to Disabled.
SOLUTION 1.
Force stopped Magisk Manager.
Backup then Delete file /data/property/persist.magisk.hide (0600).
Launch Magisk Manager.
Go to Settings >> Enable Magisk Hide.
Go back to Manager home screen. Swipe to reveal side-menu and check Magisk Hide menu is visible.
Close Magisk Manager or Force stop.
Reopen and Swipe side-menu and confirm Magisk Hide is still visible!
I hope this helps others also experiencing issues with Hiding Super User SU. Thanks Shak!
SOLUTION 2.
Another Fix someone else has also posted Dec 2017 was in regards to an error "fopen: /magisk/.core/magiskhide/hidelist failed with 2: No such file or directory"
The issue is due to Magisk Manager being unable to save the list of ticked Apps to hide from SU to /magisk/.core/hidelist.
Check the existence of the "/magisk/.core/hidelist" path.
Create the "/hidelist" directory.
CHMOD "/magisk/.core/hidelist" to 0644.
Thanks to Dunderball. :highfive:
.
Thanks a lot! I have been looking this issue up for almost a week now.
Solution 1 worked for me.
No worries mate. Appreciate the feedback.
Someone else had a similar issue for a few weeks and was unable to resolve it until upgrading to 16.4 beta. But this isn't viable for everyone due to issues w/ 16.4+.
Thanks!

which version you use ?
I use version 19.4, wont work if delete magisk.db.
LineageOs 17 on a Nexus 2013 Flo
Magisk 19.3
Magisk Manager 7.3.2
safetynet always fails after a reboot.
I tried renaming magisk.db and while magisk kept working generally, m-hide still fails the safetynet test after a reboot until I toggle hide.

Banks app detects root after update v18.0 (with Magisk Hide and hidden Manager)

Hi, thanks for reading.
I've used Magisk 17.3 with all my bank apps perfectly, with Magisk hide and Magisk manager hidden.
After update to 18.0 and update manager to 6.1, the bank apps start detecting root status, and stop working.
So, I've flashed back to 17.3 and old manager 6.0.1, and everything's back to working normally.
My system:
Poco F1
LineageOS 16.0 built 27/11/2018
The apps are from Thai's banks:
SCB EASY: detected root, still working
TMB Touch: detected root, stop working
KTB Next: detected root, working partially
If you'd want any log or anything, please also tell me how to get them.

This didn't work for me. I had to downgrade back to 17.1 to get my banking app working again. Appears that the root detection prevention is a regression in this latest version.

This doesn't work for me.
Did all of these...still got detected.
I have the same problem. Magisk says: ctsProfile: False and Google Pay don't work. Also my Banking App detects root.
I flashed today the latest Los 15 build and the crt false error is till there after flashing magisk 18. The same error is also with 17.4...
Tell me if I'm wrong but I believe we have two different reports: the original report where root is detected, and the ctsProfile/basicIntegrity failing. The second one is a regression fixed by rebooting device (however, it is annoying to reboot 10 times a day because suddenly SafetyNet fails for no reason).
I am using Magisk Hide Props module, and after 18.0 update Santander App detects root, even with Magisk Manager says I pass safetynet
It's happened with my bank app as it detected root & saftynet false and have to downgrade to ver.17.2
Sent from my SM-C900F using Tapatalk
See in install app delete old magisk manager, after install magisk 18.0 new magisk manager rename to manager.
I have same problem. After install v18 magisk, same bank app can detect the system is rooted. Downgrade to v17.2, all bank app become normal.
Same here since Magisk 18 my BankApp (Intesa Sanpaolo) start and says that there is a safety problem and it close, if I choose Magiskhide it doesn't start at all.
SafetyNet check spin without an end.
With Magisk 17.1 and 17.3 no problem at all.
Same problem here, after upgrading to Magisk 18 claiming to better hide root in the history, apps now suddenly detect root.
This affects also the Safety Net check and Google Pay... so far, Root Hiding in 18.0 seems COMPLETELY broken.
A solution would be great.
Later... after downgrading to Magisk 17.2, MagiskHide is working for me again and Safetynet checks succeed. The dev is aware of the problem, an issue is open on the Magisk Github (#907)
After uninstalling and reinstalling my bankapp now works without any problem and doesn't detect root even if is not under Magisk hide
I can confirm the v18 update breaks something and BOTH safety net checks fail. So all apps detect you are rooted, especially bank apps and Get Pay. Downgrading back to v17 restored everything to normal.
The only thing I could think of is the installation method. I did the direct install rather than installing the zip via recovery. Not sure if it makes a difference but I will wait for next release.
I am on a Pixel 2 with Android Pie updated to the Aug 2018 release.

I did not uninstall but tried clearing bank app data and cache and the problem persisted. Magisk still showing all red for safetyNet. Just sharing testing feedback.
@Djtrip83 Did you try just toggling MagiskHide off and on once after updating to v18? Sometimes MagiskHide simply needs a restart after an update...
I did that too. Toggled Hide on and off for all apps. Repackaged Magisk. Turned off USB debugging. Removed modules installed. Tried everything I thought would work. Even restored hosts in case Ad Away affected something on /system.
The only thing I did not do was remove root apps and re-install them to re-grant permissions after the Magisk update. And I wonder now if uninstalling Magisk completely and make a brand new clean install with v18 would work rather than upgrading.
I was at a loss so I downgraded. Sorry I don't have a log to share. However, v17 works fine.

We might be misunderstanding each other, but what I'm talking about is simply to go to the Manager settings and change the toggle for MagiskHide to off and then on. No need to do anything to the Hide list or anything else... Did you do that? As I said, that's sometimes something you the to do after an update, but it's rare.

[HELP] Hide Magisk Manager (Repackage) upgrades the version over the internet

I have my Samsung A30 (SM-A305F) rooted with magisk canery (87de0e7a) by flashing patched boot img via odin. Now, If i try to hide magisk with random package , it demands internet connection and install the latest version (9348c5ba). BUT i don't want to upgrade as the updated version has weird bug of rejecting SU automatically (with a very brief pop-up). I then need to ---> uninstall the repackaged app ---> Reboot ---> install 87de0e7a version ---> then it become functional again. I don't have TWRP installed. Re-flashing new patched boot requires wiping data. i don't want to do factory reset
Now I want to hide magisk as PUBG MOBILE might be crashing due to root detection. Please help me achieve solution:
(1) hide magisk manager without updating
(2) update magisk manager without that BUG of rejecting SU automatically
1 - Hide the Manager and let it update fully, no way around that. Then replace /data/user_de/0/com.H3.nuhw6UY.GoCgl/dyn/current.apk with the apk of whatever Manager version it is you want to use (and don't forget to set the same permissions and owner).
Edit: replace the package name above with the one your Manager uses.
2 - Seems to be a similar issue reported here: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/issues/2944
If there's anything to be done about it, it will be eventually.
If you can get some proper logs showing the su rejection and add to the above linked issue that would be great.
Note: i previously managed to hide it successfully when there was no newer version. It would just download the same version from the internet and repackage itself with random package name. But some days ago, i restored original manager and now i can't get it to hide.

Thanks for replying. I followed our steps (com.mkhirsnpiw.z.kkt was used instead of com.H3.nuhw6UY.GoCgl). But it again says the same thing, "Upgrade to full magisk to finish the setup. Download and install?". Clicking ok upgrades it again

Did you place the new current.apk file in the same directory and give it the proper permissions (same owner and permission 600)? I just tested and had no issues downgrading the hidden Manager to 285 this way.

yes with MiXplorer.
When Manager updated itself , i tried to update the magisk ( not the manager). But it bricked my phone as it won't start. i had to flash stock firmware via odin. It happened what i feared about. Now, i will try to patch boot img with new version.
UPDATE: I patched and flashed boot img using canary 290. after rebooting , this time there was not that Bug of rejecting SU automatically. Root was functional. But when it asked to do additional setups, it was stuck on setup operation forever and when i tried to hide manager, it showed "hiding magisk manager failed". so i uninstalled canary 290 and installed 7.5.1 (267) . This time additional setup was completed and rebooted automatically. But there was some problem with su access. so i uninstalled 7.5.1 (267) and installed canary 290. Root is now functional and it does not ask for additional setup anymore. (meaning setup was complete?). But still shows "hiding magisk manager failed" when try to hide manager. I don't know what is the problem . I was using canary 284 without any problem. PUBG mobile was runnig without problem. Now I am tired......
