Moto e5 Plus- Wont charge until powered off - Moto E5 Questions & Answers

So, I have a unique issue, and Moto support has been less than helpful. My phone fails to charge when I plug it in. As soon as I power it down, or reboot it charges without a problem. Tried safe mode, factory reset, etc. No luck. It seems that there are lots of similar issues on Moto's forums, yet all seem to be unanswered. Any help?

Please give more details, are you running stock or custom rom or gsi ?
what all have you done to this device since it originally worked?

Everything as stock as it was out of the box.

[Q] Stuck in a boot loop, cannot access recovery

Alright I am stuck. I've spent three days searching all the forums I can find, trying everything I find, and none of it has worked.
I was running the Decrap ROM on my phone no problem up until the OTA update started coming through. It failed the couple of times it tried to install. Then the Revolt ROM 1.0 came out. Made a backup, and flashed that one over the Decrap ROM, no problems. Revolt 1.1 is released, I flashed back to stock, then flashed 1.1 over it. It was running fine for a few days, except for two FC on the phone. Then I got a call from my girlfriend, tried to answer it, and the phone FC but was still ringing. I tried opening the dialer to call back, and it kept force closing. I rebooted the phone, and my real problems started.
The phone now goes through this process...Vibrate > LG splash screen > blank screen > Vibrate > LG splash screen > blank > repeat.
The only way to make it stop is taking the battery out. Every time I plug it into the wall or computer (with or without a battery) the process starts automatically. I cannot get into any sort of recovery no matter how long I hold the volume and power keys. I tried taking the battery out, SIM card, and SD card. I plugged it into the wall with and without a battery, let it charge overnight, no luck. I tried the SDK method with fast boot but I cannot get my computer to recognize the device because it keeps trying to restart itself.
The only thing I have not tried is the LGNPST method because I read of problems people were having even after recovering their phone, and I figured that if the SDK method would not work because my computer did not recognize the device neither would this.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Or am I going to have to bite the bullet and pay for a replacement?
Thanks!

I have not had the exact problem you do, I can get the phone to charge. But I have also had repeated problems with not being able to boot my Revolution. This has happened consistently no matter which ROM I've used. I've factory reset and tried Decrap and Revolt both. I can reboot my phone fine, but if I ever turn it off overnight, I go back to a blank screen after boot in the morning.
It seems a number of non-root users have this problem. You might be able to go in for a replacement, see:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOGM__SQB6Y
I'm not sure if having a low battery contributes to the problem, but I do know that Clockwork works better with a full battery.
Have you tried plugging it in without the SIM and SD card?
Charging without Battery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211935&highlight=can't+boot+to+clockwork
Well, this morning, I ended up in exactly your positions, despite having a full battery.
I tried the suggestion of plugging the phone in without the battery and letting the bottom lights flash on and off about five times. Then I put the battery back in and it booted to the charger.
still can't get to Clockwork though, if you find a solution, please post.
Update: I ended up getting back to Clockwork. Can't say exactly what did it, but what seemed to work was:
1. Charging the battery fully overnight
2. Removing the battery and holding the power button down for 30 seconds
3. Leaving the battery out for some time, about an hour I guess
4. With the battery still removed, plugging the phone in and allowing the bottom lights to flash about 10 times
5. Replacing the battery, holding down the power button and volume down.
After a full day of not being able to get into Clockwork, I was able to get in and do a factory reset.
Returning Revolution to Verizon
FYI, I took my rooted, non bootable phone into a Verizon store, and they ordered a replacement. Didn't try anything special and they didn't ask about or look for rooting on the phone.
I am having a similar but not identical problem. After trying to downgrade with LGNPST, my phone just sits at the initial LG logo. Well, it comes up, then blinks and vibrates and then comes back. It will sit there forever. I have been unable to get the hard reset menu to come up.
The phone is detected under Windows, but it tries to install a new device driver "LGE CDMA USB MODEM" for which I do not have drivers for. It does not show up as a device in LGNPST.
Any ideas?

Try pulling battery, put battery back in, press and hold volume up, press and hold power button, hold both thru the lg screen. Hopefully it will boot into a download mode that is recognized in lgnpst.

Didn't seem to do anything different. Still prompting for those USB modem drivers.

You are downgrading correct? If so the drivers you downloaded from the downgrade instructions delete those. Go to LGs website download those drivers and then retry again. That's what I did yesterday when it wouldn't recognize my phone in the program. Let me know if it works.
I've Revolted have you?
When this happened to me I contacted Verizon about the issue. Apparently I was not the first person this had happened to. I found on a couple of other forums that non root users had the same problem. Sounds like it may be an issue with the phone in general.

[Q] A very strange rebooting problem.

Regarding: Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini GT-I8190 - SIM unlocked version
Hello eveyone.
I'm having one of the strangest problems I've encountered with a phone before and I just can't seem to track down the problem. Please read this thread with an open mind as from what I can tell this is a unique issue that sounds like normal issues.
The main problem is that the phone keeps rebooting. From the get go this sounds like a normal issue with either the battery or power switch but here is the weird part...
It only happens when the phone is fully charged!
IBackground
I have had the phone since release and I have only ever used the stock rom that came with the phone. I don't really use phones much n general except for using it for calls texts and BBC news. I didn't even have a SD Card in it until after the problem started. Everything was running great, I never had any battery problems at all, and then a couple of weeks ago my phone contract expired with Orange and I decided that I would get a SIM only plan with EE.
While waiting for the SIM card to arrive in the post I charged my phone up one day and noticed that I had to power on the device. The phone seemed to power on fine, I could use all features of the phone, but when I turned the screen off for more then 5 or 6 seconds the phone would restart. There would give no indication that it had turned off or that it had powered off in anyway. It would simply just be blank, I'd press the power switch, and it would vibrate once and begin its start up procedure as if it had been turned off completely.
Here is where it gets weird, the phone will keep cycling on its own like this until the battery drains itself through constant reboots until about 85% juice, at which point it begins to operate functionally.
I heard that some people say they had problems with the power switch. I figured that if it was the power switch it then the problem would be consistant and would continue giving me problems when the battery was below 85%. I think I can rule out the power switch as faulty. Naturally I came to the conclusion it must be software, perhaps an APP installed which was incompatible. I tried all sorts of things, regardless I came to the conclusion it needed to be factory reset. Factory reset didn't do anything, still does it. My next thought was Firmware, it must be the firmware that was corrupt. I went through tutorials and rooted my phone, installed recovery software and ended up installing Cyanogenmod 11 (Which looks really beautiful btw, wish I had done that sooner) and buying an SD Card too do so. Still the problem persists! I read that some people had problems with swelling batteries, I replaced the battery completely just incase. £10 wasted, still does it.
At this point I'm starting to get confused. I started thinking perhaps it was the cable providing too much charge to the device, over charging somehow. Tried a different cable and a different power source. Still the poblem persists. I made sure there was no dirt in any of the connectors incase that was causing something. No joy.
So to summerize:
1. Factory Reset
2. Replaced Battery
3. Changed power leads
4. Cleaned device
5. Flashed to completely new firmware
I've completely run out of ideas on what it could be. Why would the phone operate absolutely fine under 85% power? Its just weird! I'd appreciate any help some one could provide me. I've not seen any one else with this problem on the internet. Please let me know what you guys think.
Thanks
Craig.

Sorry to hear about this man!
I am completely stumped on this one! You've basically done all the basic solutions but to no avail. I had a problem similar to this where my device would reboot randomly, whenever it wanted to and in my case, the solution was to buy a new battery and that actually worked. I've had the battery for almost 2/3 months now and it's still going strong.
Back to your problem, I honestly don't know of a solution. I really wish I could be of help but as I said, you've already tried the basic solutions.
Again, sorry to not be of much help!

I think I have the same problem as you did. After suddenly dropping and rebooting, my battery level jumps back up when the phone starts, and again, and again. The phone is functioning normally only when plugged in. I also presume that it is a battery problem, but the fact that the battery level rises back after dropping, makes me wonder.
EDIT: Problem solved with buying a new battery.
Sorry to jump in, just curious, did you solved this? If you do, hope to hear your solution, might help others in future

Try using a different charging cord, also just try plugging in and out a few times. Mine did the same thing (not due to update) but it turned out it was the charging cord was bad.

Nothing man, but thanks for try
Exact same thing happened to me
After getting "update now or in <24hours" for the last 6 month I decided to properly re flash my phone to get the latest version so the update would go away.
I used this guide to install the recommended version 5.1.0-LPA23.12-15.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/xt1053-222-27-5-stagefright-ota-update-t3210786
only thing I did differently was use my already installed mfastboot which worked without error
Everything worked fine, battery at 90%. I downloaded the OTA update and rebooted to install and put the phone down and come back after a moment. Phone is black, try to power on with Power and Power + Vol Down. Nothing works. I also tried charging and charging and pressing the buttons.
As far as I know it's just ****ed and there is nothing to do about it but any suggestions I would be willing to try. For anyone else I would not recommend this just in case try the TWRP System Image or the newer builds.
Edit:
I made an error by updating to the more recent one before re-flashing to the recommended one, this is known to hard-brick your device. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/how-to-resurrecting-bricked-moto-x-t2629057

My MOTO X xt1056 doesn't charge while it is off and the charger port is broken due to the plug becoming lose from daily use for 3+ years. The best bet to do is to return it to the store and tell them that it just stopped charging and they should replace it with the same device or a slightly used newer model.

Phone restarts every time I plug in the AC charger

Does anyone face this problem as well??
Whenever I plug in the charger, or even the USB type-c cable into my phone, if the other end is connected to any power source, my phone would freeze for a while and then restart.
Does anyone have an idea about this problem?
Have you tried different adapter/cable/USB port? How old is the phone? Using stock firmware?

Hay, my suggestion, backup all data, fully reset and format internal, i have this problem long ago, after update new firmware, escepcially if then place TWRP, doing root with magisk and kernel custom.

Yes, I have tried a bunch of cables, adapters and USB ports. I've tried one plus & Samsung chargers, tried plugging in the car, laptop and also some battery banks. There's nothing much I can do now. It seems that the moment the type c port is in contact of a current source, it freezes and eventually restarts.
The phone is almost a year old now, bought it last October. I started experiencing this problem in March. I have been living with it quite a while now. I was waiting if anyone else experienced this particular problem but it seems that no one has. The only freezing videos I saw were from another issue wherein the phone automatically restarts while being used. Mine won't restart abruptly, it would do that only when it actually touched a power source. But here I feel the problem is quite different.
I'm still using the stock firmware. I have tried factory resets and also followed the instructions on this link too.

Another issue is that I bought it in India last year, and now I'm located in Canada. I can't go back to India to get it fixed by ASUS since they don't provide an international warranty.

Razer Phone 2 Won't Boot into Anything

Heyyo all. I was trying to reflash the stock rom, and kept having "too many links" errors. Restarted my PC, and tried again. Looked like it was working, until the phone "restarted". It didn't turn back on, and nothing is working on it now. Tried holding every button combo for 2+ minutes each. None had any effect. Tried holding volume down while plugging it in. Still nothing. Anyone have any idea how I can force it into download mode or anything?
Appreciate any input you have.
Edit: By nothing is working, I mean it won't turn on at all. Display stays black no matter how long I hold the power button.

Unfortunately not. Had tried leaving it charging for an hour or so in case it somehow died, and nothing. Left it unplugged all day today hoping a full battery drain may kick it back to life.

I guess you unlocked the critical bootstrap partition, the "too many links" error may be a problem with the connection of the data cable, which caused some underlying partitions to be damaged due to disconnection during the flashing process

I had unlocked it, yeah. I was thinking it may have been the same thing. I had tried a different cable as well. Both would switch between no link, and too many links. Eventually just wouldn't boot into anything, so I think you're right about the partitions being damaged.
Do you know of any way to try to repair them? Ill do some Googling myself now as well

I think your rp2 had turned a hard brick, because Razer did not provide a firehose file, can't flash any partition in 9008 mode

riiiip. I'll try contacting them and see if its possible to get them. Thank you for your help!
Edit: Razer refuses to provide any support for the device now. It ended a year ago. Although in some other searching someone was saying they found the firehouse file within one of the .img's in the stock rom. Going to look more into it.
