Hey,
Not sure if anyone else has noticed but after the OneUI update I cant swipe down from top left to resize windows.
This was a really useful productivity feature when multitasking (especially at work).
you used to be able to enable "popup view" then you could swipe down from top left to "pop-out" windows but now the only way to do this is a long-winded long press on multiview window then long press again on the top of app then select pop-up view... its much less effective than just swiping down (also you need to follow this same process for each window you want to have floating...
Does anyone know how to get the older much better way of working again? - or has it gone for good?! :crying:

It was already discussed a few times. It's removed, all the good multiwindow features that we had in nougat/oreo in galaxy phones are gone. The oneUI solution is close to the google stock one. No swipe from corner, no menu between two split screen apps, no fast way to split screen via holding recents or swipe/hold (but it fires google assistant for example), no hold card in recents for fast split or popout. Everything was removed and this is really bad for my productivity. Feature that was marketed, especially with the note 9 that is phone for productivity and multitasking, feature that samsung were praised for how much better is vs the other android makers solution - removed. Well, good job.
Wow, I had not realised all. Of that is now gone... Sadness!!

Wrong, if you mean split screen mode it still exists. On OneUi you gota open recent apps and then hold down on app icon to get a menu and from there you got split screen mode. Also popup window exists still aswell. Which can be found in same menu as split screen. Swipe from corner can be enabled again in settings on One UI

Read my post again, I never said those features are removed. We(I) were talking about the shortcuts that were fast and convenient. Simple two examples:
I am watching youtube, decides I want to also msg on viber. Before I can only hold recents - open viber and start typing without the video interruption. Right now you will go to recents, video WILL interrupt, you will press the icon on the card, select split screen, then viber, then you will press play and wait for the video to start. Second scenario is when you decide you want to switch two split screen apps place - there is no mid menu anymore, so you need to close/open them. pop-out is also a lot slower to do and with more steps. Generally it's 3-4 times slower to do the same now vs oreo and the funny thing is - they easily could had avoided that - popout from corner option in the advanced menu, swipe recents and hold for instant split screen (right now it's like that for google assistant - swipe and hold, never mistrigger it so it's good) and return of the mid menu between two split apps. Simple, but they removed it all. They even removed in the newer second base that was released after the first one a leftover for hold recents when navigation bar is on for instant split screen.
I am still expecting this option to be reenabled by samsung. It was seriously useful as hell and now i feel my phone is half broken

Try Nice lock from xda:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/themes/nicelock-module-download-links-module-t3923844
It's Good Lock for the places that can't get it from Galaxy store.
Everything you need is on first post, the launcher and modules...
Edit.
It doesn't bring back the hold down recent key for multiwindow though. You now have to have an active app running, tap on recent key, select and hold down the second app you want and slide it to top or bottom of screen to activate split screen.

Can someone make a module that replace the navigation and with gestures like on iPhone X? I really like the idea and I want to see it on Android .

What would be the gesture for the back button? Swiping to the sides switches apps in the iPhone. The android ui relies on the back button.
Check all xposed modules

I don't know what exactly you are looking for, but have you tried Xposed Edge Pro? It is fantastic... and powerful. Probably will fit your needs.

Besides it Xposed Gesture Navigation also deserves a try.

I use swipe down on right edge center.
Up is menu.
Press and hold top is fast upwards.
Press and hold bottom is fast downwards.
Press and hold center is a pie app switching related.
Press and hold left edge center is general pie.
Press and hold bottom edge center is a pie clipboard related.
And lots of other stuff..... All with Xposed Edge Pro.
Needs Refinement
I love UI changes, so over the years I've tried things like Android Pie, Gesture control, exposed modules, and even multi window stuff all the way back in the tablet days of Android Honeycomb.
The problem is the lack of response breaks them.
When I swipe from the bottom I need instant feedback (visual/audio/haptic or all three) as to whether or not the phone thinks I'm scrolling down or going home.
When I realize I am scrolling down/going home and I want to be doing the opposite action, I need to be able to stop the gesture mid-way and reverse my action.
I need to easily be able to distinguish between the two gestures so that if I do mess up, I know what to do to get the desired result.
I need all other apps to accommodate/not request this gesture.
The iPhone does this well by having a bottom bar, you pull the bar up to go home, you swipe somewhere else to scroll. There is instant visual feedback, and the action can be stopped midway.
For Android here is a non-clone example.
1. Have a bubble/circle (looks like a chat-head) right where the home button is.
2. Swiping up behaves similar to pulling down (refreshing) on chrome/many apps. You start pulling and there is an animation but the action does execute till a certain threshold.
3. Swiping right-to-left has similar animation but for back button
4. Swiping left-to-right does the same but for multitasking
5. Long press for something else
This is not radically different from other gestures or Android Pie, but I believe the small changes and refinements would take it from being impractical to smooth and enjoyable.
I like the new iPhone X's "swipe bar" and I would love to find it on my android phone.
In my opinion a dedicated visible bar is better than "swipe on the edges".
Why? Because even "swipe on the edges" works obviously with a small area of the screen (otherwise is impossible to detect swipe gestures), but this area is transparent, which is cool but also bad: sometimes when you just tap on that area (when you're typing on the keyboard for example) an involuntary swipe is detected.
So in my opinion a visible bar like the current navigation bar is necessary.
But is definitely unneccessary such a big area!
So I imagine the perfect "swipe bar" a small, minimal and animated (when touched) area.
User should be able to map up to 4 different swipe gestures (up, right, down and left) and tap gestures (one tap, double tap, long press, ...)
I drew some concepts of the "swipe bar", what you guys think?

You mean something like this
How can i make a shortcut for an app to open in pop up window?
There used to be an app called pen window launcher that had this capability.
Anyone?
Thanks
Just enable swipe from top diagonal to enter pop out view. Takes like 0.003s longer than having a shortcut.
Right. Shortcuts are for pansies.
Anyone builds it I'll buy it though.
Time is money (and finger strain is best avoided).

Can you explain further? I can only seem to set app pairs and app shortcuts, would be great to have shortcuts that open in pop up mode.
Thanks
How would a shortcut be any faster than the 2 step process of opening an app and swiping down from the corner? I used to use the old method (pop-up window) which I believe was introduced on the Note 3. Anyway, when I updated my Note 3 to either the Note 4 or Note 5 rom (can't remember which), I had to learn the swipe method. Now, I couldn't imagine going back to the antiquated pen window. I will say that it's not as smooth swiping from the corner of a curved screen like the Note 7 & 8, but I usually have my s-pen out for more precise touch when I'm working off a smaller section of the screen. Honestly, I just use Edge for App Pair since the day I got the Note 8. But, swipe is still the quickest way to open pop-up or floating window.

How would it be faster? You answered your own question by your described method, open an app, swipe down from corner...I'd like to open the app (in pop up window).
There used to be apps in the play store that would created a shortcut for any app, that you can put on your home screen, that would just launch into a pop up window (1 step).
I was able to create a bixby shortcut for a 3rd party calculator to open in pop up window...I hold bixby and say calculate and it opens in a pop up window...it works but a shortcut would make life easier.

Didn't realize u gotta hit the icon with 2 windows! Thanks alot!
On PlayStore, "Floating Apps (multitasking)" by LWi s.r.o., is exactly what you're looking for. It provides real shortcuts for the ability to instantly launch any app in variable sizes of real Galaxy Pop-up mode floating multi windows, in addition to providing dozens of their own original low kB mini-apps. Works great, saves time and effort, perfect size in an instant!
I switched last weekto the AOSP Oreo build for our beloved OnePlus One. So there I'm missing the possibility to customize hardware button remapping. Since I also don't like to waste place on my screen with the navigationbar, I polished up an app I developed once for my old Samsung Note 1.
VSB places a virtual button on the bottom of your screen (the grey circle in the screenshot). You can hide it and you can change the size. This button will always be there. So, now you can attach different events on different triggers of that button.
Triggers:
click
long click
double click
swipe up
swipe left
swipe right
Events:
Nothing
Home
back
Recents
open notifications
open Quick settings
open power menu
lock screen
open volume panel
To do this the app needs the following permissions enabled:
android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW: to show the button over other apps, otherwise you could not click it
android.permission.BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE: to trigger some events (home, back, power menu, ...)
android.permission.ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY: to open volume panel during "Do not disturb" mode
Downloads:
In the third post.
The app is complete open source: https://github.com/scoute-dich/VirtualSoftKeys and a heavily modified fork of VirtualSoftKeys, which is licensed under the Apache License.
The app can be used on any device running Lollipop+. I just want to share it, because for me it's usefull and I hope for some of you also. This is my way to say thanks to all other developers and to give the great community on XDA something back. If you have suggestions or if you find some bugs, just tell me here or open an issue on Github.

If you could add open app drawer, this would be perfect.. I know I'm a small case scenario, but your dot will interfere with my layout (see screenshot).. If there's an app drawer ( or select app) feature, it'd be amazing.. Oh, and moveable too..
Volume option takes me to do not disturb option, not the volume panel..

1. I don't think, that opening the app drawer is possible. I can't call "a launcher method" from outside the launcher. In my setup the dot also interferes with the open drawer function. But with my launcher (Flick launcher) it's possible to swipe up on the dock to open the drawer. Perhaps you have a similar possibility?
Also with your current settings it should be possible to touch the open app drawer button without clicking the VSB.
2. Moveable would be nice. I will look out for possibilities, when I have the time. At the moment I'm very busy at work and don't have much time. Also this app has a lower priority than other apps, I already published on PlayStore and F-Droid, which also have some outstanding issues to solve.
3. The thing with the volume panel is strange. I used the app on different Nougat and Oreo roms. And it always opens the "ringtone volume slider"...
But anyway, thanks for your feedback. I promise to take a look in the second suggestion.

When in recent menu, just click the app icon. You will see the multi-window floating app option
It is soooooo annoying that you cannot swipe down and left/right from a corner to resize it to window view. Same thing with not being able to change recent apps view for a list.

Glad I found this. I thought I was going mad.
Largely on the same subject, so rather than start a new thread...
Where has the button gone that swaps the top and bottom apps around when running two apps in splitscreen mode?
There used to be a few handy buttons between the two running apps, have they been ditched?
Multi window gone
My phone just updated and now my multi window feature is gone, I've gone thru every setting to find it
When viewing you're recent opened apps, each app has their icon at the top centre of it. Click on the icon. You'll get a small pop-up menu with options. You can choose: App info, open in split screen, pop up mode (where you can resize the app) and lock it.
I don't know yet what the lock functions does.
EDIT:
As mine is in Dutch, could be that the lock function has a different name in English.
The lock function: If you lock an app, and then close all recent apps, the locked app wil stay open. So if you're playing a game, you can lock it, close all recent apps and the game will stay open and running.

Yep, that was also removed. You can't popout the selected app, you can't switch app places. So, if you opened firstly viber (for example) and then youtube at the bottom and then decide to switch the apps place so you can type on viber without covering the youtube video - tough luck, now you have to close both app and open them again vs 2 taps in 1-2 seconds that will not interrupt anything. Also you miss the popout swipe from corner as said from others. You also miss the swipe up + hold for instant split screen (really useful when you play a video @ youtube, will not interrupt the video). You have the swipe up + hold for google assistant... but you don't have the same for the recents - go figure why (never mis-triggered the assistant, so it's not that). So many things are missing, half baked or straight forward broken - really disappointed. I like some aspects of the android 9 one UI, but others are just mind blow not polished at all or missing. I guess to have a "new" things for one UI 2.0 or note 10. After all, why you need a good multiwindow functionality on a phone marketed for multitasking and multiwindow? The note 9 really is more than ever an s9+ with a head scratcher.

Just to add to this, you can switch between multi view and currently open apps by holding down on the previous apps button for 2 secs then you can choose by 2 second press if you want multi window or just currently open apps.
I don't like that if you want to choose an app not in the recent window, you have to close all to be able to choose an app. Their multi-window has taken huge steps backwards. Kinda disappointing since that has always been a defining feature.
---------- Post added at 02:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:57 AM ----------
Well, I will correct myself, you can swipe to the home screen while choosing and select a different app that is not already in the recent window.
When you open Samsung members app the first thing that appears is something called advices... if you tap you will see some changes on the pie update ...
Other pie screwups
That's not all you've lost, my friend. The multi window setting is gone, as you know. The ability to swipe from the corner to resize and go multi window is gone, as you know. However, additionally, i noticed the following:
- The ability to enter your fingerprints to access Samsung browser secrecy mode is gone/disabled. You can only enter using iris scan or password.
- The phone optimisation edge panel is gone and nowhere to be seen.
- when you deactivate the nav bar in favour of swipe gestures, you cannot long press on the recent apps swipe area to enable split screen multitasking, as you would have with the recent apps button on the nav bar.
I hope there's a bug fix coming and soon

This is not working for me. I'm holding the 3 line open app navigation bar button....nothing.
So I updated to Pie today since Verizon finally got the ota live.
But I have found 2 main things I dont like. The biggest one is the apps that appear under the close all button when viewing your recent apps (see pic). Is there a way to remove those? Also the action if swiping up to close an app not something I'm fond of but could get used to
Next is the clock. Is there a way to move it back to the right hand corner? Makes no sense why they moved it to the left side.
I've searched through the settings and went through everything but didn't see anything to solve either of these things. Is this possible or do I just need to get used to it because its there to stay?
I haven't seen any fixes for the recents panel, but Goodlock can move the clock.
https://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-9/948426-pie-clock-good-lock.html#post6493781
The common theory is that the clock was moved to the left in order to accommodate phones with notches.
Here's more detail.

Open recents and look at top right side, there is 3 dots menu, press it and go to settings, turn off recommended apps - this will remove the apps below the recent apps cards. For the second clock part, good lock 2019 can move the clock. It's from samsung, on the samsung store for some countries. If it's not, then you need to sideload it as your country is not in the whitelist. It's 10 apks isntall + small program to access the modules called nice lock (from playstore) that is developed by fellow xda senior member. There are enough materials on the web for good lock 2019 and how to side load it. There also you can change the recent menu style + return some of the multitasking abilities and whatnot.
