I'm thinking about pre-ordering an unlocked Galaxy S10 from Samsung (because the $550 trade-in for my S9 is amazing), but I'm currently using Xfinity Mobile as my carrier. I've heard that Xfinity Mobile does not play well with unlocked android devices unless they are flashed with specific firmware. Any idea if/when Xfinity Mobile firmware will be available to flash? I've seen people have success with Verizon variants on Xfinity Mobile. Does anyone have any insight? Would I need to have an active Verizon SIM card in order to get the device working initially before swapping in my Xfinity Mobile SIM card? Would I have to SIM unlock a Verizon version? Thanks for any help.
Xfinity mobile uses Verizon towers, and all S10s are interchangeable..... So as long as your IMEI checks out with XFINITY on their BYOD page.... Then any old G973U or U1 that IS Sim Unlocked will do... It just so happens that Verizon does NOT lock their phones anymore, so you might want to just start there anyways....
After that just download the frimware for G973U - CCT with the samfirm tool. Flash AP,BL,CP,CSC,USERDATA with newest odin.
Congrats, you have a Comcast carrier branded S10 with all the features and apps for Xfinity Mobile....

OK guys, somewhat of a newbie, so try and give me a break. I am looking to upgrade to a Galaxy S8 and came across an unlocked T-Mobile S8. Can I flash the AT&T firmware to this phone? If I run the T-Mobile firmware on the AT&T network, I assume I won't get any updates? What about the radios? I know both are GSM networks and with both the AT&T and T-Mobile S8 sharing the same model number, I assume this won't be a problem.
Anyway, any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks!!!
I'm looking for the same answer
I believe if it's unlocked from t-mobile, all you have to do is put your sim in it. Given they are both GSM and all the relevant info is stored on sim card and not the phone

you will still get updates from t-mobile. i am using a note 4 unlocked from tmobile on at&t for about a year, getting my s8+ tomorrow actually. the only thing you have to do is add at&t apn settings which are easy to find if you google. i would like to know if its possible to flash another carrier and then flash back to the phone's original carrier tho
I've been through hell and high water trying to get this phone to function on Sprint but the guys at the local corporate store and technical team (via phone support) are telling me it cannot be done. Is anyone in the same predicament as me or has a functioning AT&T Note 8 activated on the Sprint network? I'm using a BYOD SIM and have also flashed my device with N950U1 unlocked firmware.
As AT&T is a GSM network and Sprint is CDMA, I don't think this is possible...
EDIT
Sorry, I guess times have changed. It seems possible now, once the Note8 is unlocked from AT&T.

Carrier switching is very much possible with the US variants, so if you flash the Sprint firmware (N950U, not U1) and the Sprint CSC as well, in theory it should work just fine. If there are IMEI complications about not being in 'Sprints system', that's another issue, but hardware wise it should be 100% compatible with Sprint's network.

This is precisely what I kept telling the guys at the store, that all of the USDM Note 8's are hardware identical. My only theory at this point is that the device isn't Sprint BYOD eligible because it has an outstanding balance on the AT&T side and therefore isn't "officially unlocked".
I have a Canadian S10 (973W) which I cross-flashed it with AT&T firmware with odin-patch. The CSC is for AT&T and I am trying to enable the wifi calling.
It seems that sometimes it works but most of the times it does not. I have the APP0008 error. Also when I have the error it seems I can not check the call waiting as well.
Do you know if AT&T fully allows non AT&T phones to be registered for wifi calling? I know some phones work but some other don't even though the software is for AT&T
It is my understanding that it has to be AT&T branded for them to allow VOLTE, WiFi Calling ....
It may be based on the IMEI numbers being restricted.
Now, if you flash the firmware for AT&T it should work but the forums are full of posts that indicate it does not seem to hold. Sorry and I hope and I am wrong ...
What gets me is these features work fine on Unlocked Models with TMo and Verizon... Very frustrating

U and U1 models are firmware compatible with each other as the "U" stands for Universal. If you have a U or U1 model you can flash any U firmware (Sprint, Verizon, etc) or the U1 unlocked firmware and everything will work given you have the right SIM card for that specific carrier.
I bought an unlocked Verizon G8 and I inserted my old xfinity SIM card then factory reset, (which on other phones, converts it to the xfinity variant) but this time I just keep getting the verizon splash screen and I cannot get OTA updates through Xfinity.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

Inserting a Sim will not convert it to any other variant. There's nothing you can do

I helped someone else who had a s10e that had verizon firmware. I just put in a xfinity sim card, factory reset. And it booted with xfinity firmware. The G8 wont do that though

Yeah... Most phones will definitely not do that. I'm not sure what the huge benefits from having Xfinity firmware would be though.

I suppose it's not. I'm just having trouble getting the latest updates. The Verizon update assistant only gave me the update before the most current one. Know how I could get the updates ?
I'm using a Verizon G8 on XM. To get updates, you need to insert a Verizon SIM, and after the update put your XM SIM back in.
Galaxy Flagships (S8 and up, if unlocked) has multi-carrier support.
I'm sure none of LG phones does that yet.

What do you mean? It's just a matter of supported bands... Depends on each carrier, and sometimes some other hardware matters too, but if the band is supported, it will use it if it can't default to whatever the original carrier's band is

When I meant multi-carrier support, the device converts its firmware to the carrier firmware of the sim card.
ex) Inserting an T-Mobile sim card into Unlocked Verizon Galaxy S8+, then it will reboot and install whatever T-Mobile Galaxy S8+ has (default apps, apns, volte, everything only T-Mobile version has)

Oh. That does not work for all phones though since there's slightly different hardware
hey all
i have one note galaxy SM-N960U
VERSION ONE UI : 2.0
AT&T USA ORIGINAL CARRIER
I need a Flash Rom to unlock it ,to work with my new carrier in Morocco
I think you need at&t to unlock it or pay one of those sketchy places online which I don't recommend.
CAN YOU RECOMMEND A FAST WAY
For me, when I paid off my phone (was on the AT&T payment plan because of a BOGO deal)
I was able to use the ATT website, enter the IMEI and some other bull****, then ATT emailed me the unlock code.
As far as I know, this only unlocked the sim and I switched to Xfinity Mobile.

OK, but now you need balance, not free, I search other method
Unlock a Phone or Device - AT&T Device Unlock Portal
www.att.com
This is what I used, it was free.
