5G capabilities - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

So only the s10 plus will have 5G capabilities right? Thanks In advance!!!

From my understanding no it's only the S10 5G that's will be 5G out of the box basically the S10++ it's 6'7" display and 4500mAh coming later in early summer I don't think any of the other 3 S10 models have 5G modem I did hear it could with additional modem module but not sure how that could work maybe possible

Maybe the lady that works in the Verizon store doesn't know the product... but when I asked her about 5G support on the S10, she told me they all have it. Hmmm. Makes me wonder. She did tell me to keep my grandfathered unlimited data package and that I could also pay for the phone over time keeping the plan so who knows.

1. She's a salesperson. She gets commission if you buy something from her. They'll tell you just about anything you want to hear in order to get you to take the leap.
2. You can do the monthly payment plan through Verizon under their grandfathered UDP. I'm under it as well. The only thing we couldn't do was back in the day get a phone cheaper by extending our contracts. Now that contracts aren't much of a thing anymore and payment plans are, you're good to go.

Might be different US as it's Snapdragon 855 with x50 modem =5G , UK get stuffed with exynos 9820 no 5G [emoji53]

None of the models out now will support 5G, only the 5G model coming out this summer. Why should it, I suspect we'll be talking about the S11 befire there is any widespread 5 G coverage.

Currently the S10 Plus isn't a 5G device. It states that it's 5G "Capable" but is lacks the modem. Maybe by May or June it will be released.

Calling Anyone With a Verizon or AT&T Tab S 10.5 (SM-T807V or SM-T807A)

Does it have a Snapdragon or an Exynos? If you're not sure, you can check your /system/build.prop file. Open it up and look for the line that starts with ro.board.platform. Thanks in advance! I know Sprint has a Snapdragon, but I think that's there by necessity due to Spark and needing to do TDD-LTE on Band 41. That's why I'm curious about Verizon and AT&T.
AT&T is the only US carrier selling the 8.4" LTE version and it has an Exynos, so I'd assume the 10.5" versions do too unless they have a specific need for a Snapdragon.
We are lucky, I suppose. Verizon Tab S comes with the Snapdragon.
Thanks! So Verizon is now accounted for. How about AT&T? Anyone?
Sent from my Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 using Tapatalk
My AT&T 10.5 807A has Exynos.
ro.board.platform=exynos5
Wish I had snapdragon, but I haven't noticed any slowness or hesitation. But battery life is awful, and with no root I don't know how to remedy that.
Define awful.
Sent from my Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 using Tapatalk
I'm wondering if the Snapdragon, in this case, is due to CDMA2000. Maybe Exynos processors don't play nice with CDMA thus the Snapdragon processors on Verizon and Sprint's models.
Sent from my Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 using Tapatalk
For what it's worth I can also confirm that my t807 (Verizon) has a Snapdragon. As an LG/HTC guy I am very, very happy with the purchase as that snapdragon does a good enough job at providing me with a smooth experience with the only lag/stutters happening with a bunch of apps working the cpu at the same time.
The Exynos 5 in my AT&T 8.4 seems to work well too, but I'd have loved a Snapdragon.
Sent from my Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 using Tapatalk
Yes, I love my Verizon snapdragon version. The only big downside (and hopefully this will be rectified soon) is no root-- which is a big deal with KitKat's restrictive SD card policies.

No I haven't. I'm don't usually root my devices, sorry.
Rooting was scary when I did it. The flashing of cf auto root made me think I did something wrong because it flashed the root which really fast that it showed it rooting then rebooted and done

Oh I have no problem rooting a device. I just find it pointless. Once I knew how, my curiosity was satisfied. I don't do anything with any of my devices that requires root so I just leave mine stock. The whole rooting and custom ROM scene just doesn't interest me nearly as much as it used to. haha
I hear ya.. I'm not as in to ROMing as I once was, but debloating all this Samsung and att cap would be extremely helpful. and xposed, of course..

It's not possible. The tablet is missing the actual hardware needed. This isn't exclusive to AT&T. Samsung has never once sold a tablet in the United States that has this capability, whether it's AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile or Sprint. None of the US carriers want a tablet that doubles as a phone because they wouldn't be able to sell it as a tablet. They'd have to sell it as a phone, which nobody would want, and they'd have to sell talk/text/data plans with it which are more expensive than data-only plans.

Use Google Voice! That is what I use on the Tablet. I can text and make calls to anywhere in the U.S. for free.

The original Galaxy Tab sold by AT&T was able to be hacked into a phone, albeit without a earpiece, so you had to use speaker or headphones, but it was an awesome device.

Definitely! Thanks to xda members, I was able to mod my Tab and use it for quite a while as a phone with a bluetooth earpiece. Worked great, until AT&T finally caught onto it and made us pick a tablet data and/or phone plan. Funny thing was I ended up just picking a tablet data plan that cost quite a bit less and used Google Voice and Skype for calls.

Exynos Galaxy Note 8 on AT&T

This time around, I will most likely be getting the Exynos version of the Galaxy Note 8. There are 2 versions that I am looking at specifically:
SM-N950F
SM-N950N
I've seen a few threads on here where people are trying to get them to work with AT&T, but never asked outright, so I am making this thread in hopes that it could possibly serve as a reference point for everyone:
Has anyone gotten the Exynos, international version of the Galaxy Note 8 working with AT&T, and get full LTE, VoLTE, Wifi calling, etc.?
If so, which Exynos model is it, and how did you get AT&T working?
Thank you so much!
I was using a UK Exynos S8+ on AT&T. You'll get none of AT&T's advanced features. Also, and I didn't realize it until I got the unlocked Note8, LTE speeds are slower with the Exynos radio. If you use Samsung Pay be careful which CSC you buy. Not all of them support U.S. use of Samsung Pay.

How much slower are the LTE speeds we are talking? I can understand if it's slightly slower, but if it's much slower, then no-go.
Honestly, I use AT&T Prepaid, and it already doesn't have things by default such as VoLTE and Wifi calling (I think), so as long as I get stable and relatively fast LTE, it won't matter much.
I just purchased a SM-N950N 256gb I plan on using it on ATT I really do hope LTE works on it as I returned my note 8 snapdragon to get the exynos variant.

That's good; if you could please update this thread with your direct experiences, I could then update the OP if it will work definitively or not. I already read in another thread that it works perfectly with T-mobile, so I can't see why not with AT&T.
UK N950F (XEU Single Sim) on ATT and it's working fine for me... LTE works, VoLTE works and HD Voice works (although i'm not sure if i can initiate a HD call. when i see the HD icon, i assume it's someone calling me via Wifi calling). i'm in some fringe areas, but i still get avg DL speeds of 35-40 mb/s. upload is consistently in the 20 mb/s range which is fine for my needs. @BarryH_GEG, what are your average speeds with the ATT Note 8? thanks.

Just saw this thread.
If you can can you point me to the csc file you flashed and if you can how did you flash?
I've tried a few that are out there and they all caused simple things like call forwarding not to work.
TIA.

Yeah read that thread. Was last post there.
Only other LTE phone I have is the Note 5 which is also not an At&t branded phone, which I assume is what is needed to turn on all the other features.
Thanks

Whis getting one?

So who's getting one? I've been contemplating it just for the novelty. I won't get any 5g outta Tmobile in the US and it won't be available til later in the summer which will bump it up close to Note 10 release date which I will definitely be getting. Didn't realize a 512gb variant was in the mix. I was writing it off because I thought there would only be a 256gb version without sd expansion. Decisions, lol.

I placed the order last night on Samsung store for 512GB.
I'm like you, just getting it for the device itself rather than 5G!
I was gonna jump to Verizon anyways, but now I gotta do it.
They have a good offer too but I don't like to get hardware from Carriers
nor do I put on financing so I went with Samsung store outright.
But regardless of the 5G noise, the device is solid, UFS 3.0, better cameras
front & rear and bigger battery and a nice screen.
My understanding is that it is not UFS 3.0, correct me if I'm wring but I didn't see any mention of that. Would be a nice addition.

I'm assuming you don't get any 5g signal? Is there any Korea bloateware or did you find it unlocked? How's the battery life?
No 5g yet, but the speeds are better than my s9+. Better life is pretty good. Ive been on it hard so little hard to tell.
There is almost no bloatware at all, 1 app store and 1 app I can't figure out what it is.
Is it dual sim
No this is single sim. I was rather disappointed at that.
I'm pretty sure the 5g is only going to be single sim. Especially since it doesn't even have an expansion slot...could be wrong.
Double post
Pre-ordered through Verizon as a BOGO with wife's S10e. Originally chose the S10+, but I wanted an even bigger screen and battery. Verizon is also allowing crediting the $10/mo 5G data fee on pre-orders. I don't anticipate seeing any 5G in this phone's life cycle, but I sure don't want to pay extra for it in case I accidentally bump into a random, unexpected 5G signal in Atlanta.

Yes, but it is snapdragon. The boot loader will be locked. You will not be able to flash any custom roms or even root it. This thread is referring to the Exynos version not the Snapdragon version.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Wifi-Calling not Working on AT&T

I have unlocked Samsung galaxy S10 SM-G973U1 (although on the box it said G973U)
So my question is how to change it to SM-G973U for wifi-calling to work on AT&T? and if I change it to the required version, is there a guarantee that wifi calling will work?
I believe you have to change the firmware so the system thinks it is an AT&T branded unit? My unlocked GS10 has wifi calling when i use it on T-Mobile or Verizon but has never worked on AT&T ..I hope someone can help you with the proper steps to change as i am not sure
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
AT&T disallows Wi-Fi calling on the factory unlocked S10. The IMEI of those units will never be provisioned since they are barred from AT&T exclusive features.
My advice is to ditch AT&T.
Agree with monkeydroid as I just ported my service over to Verizon and now I have WiFi calling and VoLTE AND much better call clarity and coverage, use same unlocked GS10

2nd this very much. I use Mint Mobile (t-mo mvno), only pay 15 a month (4 gig data), have volte and vowifi, and it does carrier aggregation. Never had a phone that did that before... you get a little plus symbol next to the LTE symbol when it's doing that. The signal is almost always strong in the same spot where other devices almost always had weak signals.

Verizon 20FE on Xfinity 5G?

I am planning to purchase an S20 FE direct from Samsung. I am on Xfinity Mobile (Verizon MVNO). Xfinity now offers 5G. I usually purchase unlocked phones but not sure if this will work.
1. If I want 5g will I need to purchase the Verizon model?
2. Will I be able to use the Verizon "variant" on Xfinity without ever activating on Verizon?
I asked Samsung, Xfinity and Verizon and no accurate or definitive response.
Xfinity:"You need to purchase your phone from us", I am currently using unlocked S9 Plus not purchased from them
Samsung: "Verizon phones only work on Verizon and will not work on any other carrier" (agent did not know what an MVNO was)
Verizon: "All Verizon phones are sim-unlocked but you cannot use a Verizon phone on Xfinity because it will be network locked"
Thank You in advance for helpful replies.
If I'm not mistaken when you try to purchase Verizon phone you will need to have account at Verizon ..it will ask to login to verify existing user ...a d must activate on Verizon ... I'm also thinking their version phone has different 5G capabilities not 100 % sure though View attachment 5105831

Ok, Thanks, I never got that far on shop.samsung or I would not have asked the question, seems kind of moot now.
I did understand that Verizon variant of S20FE is mmWave. That is what Xfinity Mobile uses for 5G (Verizon towers) and why I wanted Verizon variant.
Seems the bottom line is I can't buy the Verizon variant without a Verizon account and the unlocked variant is 4G only on Xfinity... kind of deflates the value for me.

You wanting the 5G for future proof? Right now 5G you would be lucky if you found a good spot ...I'm on Verizon passed on their version and went unlocked ..
Yes, that is good point and same conclusion I came too. I figured Sammy was going to give me $350 for my s9+ it so for around $350 out of pocket I could get a decent phone that would last me another 2 years. I wanted mmWave 5G for future proof but I think even Verizon will have to build out sub-6 network eventually if I read correctly. I just looked at Vzw 5G map and it is not "34 Cities" as they claim, it is more like a few neighborhoods each in 34 cities.
