[G935A] Downgrade Oreo (v8) To Nougat (v4) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discus

NEW METHOD - DOESN'T WORK ON Bootloader 10 AKA THE CSF1 BUILD OF OREO.
RECOMMENDATION: USE 3B MODDED ODIN.
So, I said before in this post, before editing, that you could use older FW on the AP and CSC slots in odin, but that no longer works, so here's a new method that doesn't work on the 10th bootloader revision, also it's 6.0.1. Sorry. I can't do anything for you.
Use these files:
G935AUCU9ASA1 (Marshmallow, untested) - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397911894
Notice the A in ASA1 instead of C for CSA1.
Also use 3B Odin. - https://forum.xda-developers.com/and...-13-1-t3762572
3B will help.
I changed up the method because the old method was outdated for bootloader V9, and it also made bootloops happen for some people, and mine ended up bootlooping.

It reboots fine because you haven't actually downgraded the bootloader, you are just running an older software image on the newer bootloader. That (to my knowledge) has always been possible with Prince Comsey's Odin, though it's not always stable.

Do you have links to the firmware so I can downgrade?

When I still had my AT&T Note 5, I had a Revision 3 "sboot.bin" that would boot a LP build. It could only do that because it came from the Factory Binary Firmware, every other revision 3 bootloader booted MM kernels.
So yeah, on my Note 5 I could technically downgrade my AP file all the way back to the beginning, because I had a bootloader capable of booting a Lollipop Kernel.
That eng "sboot.bin" I had was a real eng bootloader too from the N920AUCU3APH1 factory build. ODIN 3.12 would actually allow me to flash a Revision 2 sboot.bin overtop of the 3aph1 sboot.bin. I even got the phone to boot up too using an older Lollipop AP firmware.
However downgrading the AP like that can sometimes re-open valuable loopholes, if trying to do something not exactly specific to the bootloader.

Well, I tried the method I said I had in this post and it bootlooped, so now, I just found a file which seems kinda bootleg, but it's a combination file that swings you to 6.0.1.
It's for G935A, so use 3B Odin.
There's not much info on this combination firmware, but sources lead me to believe this is 6.0.1 because
6.0.1 builds were G935XXXXXAXXX
7.0 builds were G935XXXXXBXXX
and Oreo Builds are G935XXXXCXXX
also if your firmware is G935AUCUACSF1 instead of U9CSC1 you can't use this.
G935AUCU9ASA1 (Marshmallow? - Not Tested By Me, Will Test Later Today) - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397911894
3B Odin (I know this works, so...) - https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572

[q] *how to update rooted note 5 from mm to nougat?*

Peace All...
I am currently on Minotauras ROM (MM) and would like to update my Note 5 920G to the latest Nougat firmware---so I can download a Nougat custom ROM (i know one is not dependent on the other, but I was always taught that if the base changes, its best to update the firmware to avoid any potential problems). However, I'm unclear as to what steps should be taken to update the firmware--I'm relatively new to SamSung devices. I know Odin is the update utility, but unclear whether I should first flash a "stock" Marshmallow Recovery and stock ROM--then take OTA...or can I just flash the Nougat firmware and then flash TWRP? What happens to my data & apps? Will all settings be erased?
Please advise.....

1)You are on stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 right as i guess so? Then you have MM bootloader(But if you are on 5.0.1 lollipop bootloader then you need atleast upgrade you bootloader to 6.0.1, you can find MM bootloaders at Samsung galaxy note 5 android development thread anywhere mostly at Dr.ketan Rom N8 S8+ port/You can also find Nougat bootloaders there only)
2)Don't worry then if you want to upgrade to any custom nougat rom then you can simply download prefer one and install through TWRP as you installed Minotorus Rom(Assuming You are on Marshmallow Bootloader and Oem unlocking/Usb debugging options are enabled from Developers option)
3)Or if you want to update your stock firmware to official Nougat for updated model and bootloader after that want to try Custom nougat rom, then you can download official Stock 7.0 firmware for your device N920G and specific country if available from websites like sammobile.com or samsungupdates.com etc (I am unknown about your country afaik samsung released 7.0 for N920G for some specific countries atm, like for asian countries not for latin american countries)
4)Further Odin flashing guides you can find also here within forum only, if you have any query related to odin flashing you can ask me i will provide you Odin flashing guide also(Kindly don't forget to enable Oem unlocking and Usb debugging option from developers option before flashing anything using Odin or you may brick your device)
5)You can also flash official stock 6.0.1 and update through OTA to 7.0 but above mentioned method is easy to directly update to nougat(Only if official Stock 7.0 nougat firmware available for your device model no and country)
6)While updating to stock firmware using odin, all your user data stored on internal storage will be lost(If you directly flash custom nougat rom on minotorus rom then user data stored on internal storage will be there) so i will suggest you take backup of your current data
Peace!!
First off--THANK YOU DroidHackeR for your response. I was out of town so I coulnt respond sooner. But Yes...I'm on MM 6.01 and I would prefer to upgrade to the offical 7.0 firmware. My model number is 920G, which I think is an International model.I am in the Unite States and using Tmobile's bands. I looked on sammobile and saw that they did have the official firmware (but for Bangladesh, India--I didnt see anything that said International...and thats where I kinda got stuck, cause I dont know if that firmware would be compatible). With that being said--I guess my best option would be to flash an official stock 6.01 firmware and then take the update? I have OEM unlocking and USB debugging enabled.
Could you please walk me through flashing via Odin? Like where would I find the stock 6.01 firmware? Sammobile as well? I know I will loose my data..I've backed up most of my files.
Thank you again for help!

Well you can always flash the MM firmware in odin then take the OTA but ive always just flashed the new firmware via odin just because it easy.
And flashing firmware via odin will not wipe your device unless you change your CSC.ive used odin literally 100s of time across numerous devices over the years and it never has wiped my device...common misconception for some reason.
But of course first you need to find the correct firmware for your device on sammobile.
Then once downloaded un zip it and load the tar in the AP slot in odin.
Occasionally a factory reset is needed for the device to boot and that will wipe your storage.
There are tons of tutorials on how to use odin...hit that search button, use Google or even hit you tube for videos (which are useful if your a total n00b since you can see how it runs so no surprises).
If you do it once after that it will seem so easy.

Hi,
Thanks for your inputs. I tried same steps for my N9208 dual SIM with stock 6.0.1 firmware from sammobile.
After Odin flash, boots to stock recovery and throws dm-verify check failed error.
Please share your suggestions.

I would suggest that next time you use the search function to try and help your self first as learning is key here.
That said i did a quick search for you which led to many results but this is an excellent read.

Well.. I searched YouTube video tutorials, GooGle searched and went to SamFirmware and downloaded a 6.01 stock firmware. However, the file I downloaded was for Bangladesh (I have a 920G model) and it failed when trying to flash it via Odin. So I downloaded another 6.01 firmware--this time for Brazil (as all tutorials have stated that as long as the model number is the same its ok to flash). At first the green loading bar was working and it got all the way through to radio image and then it failed---but now my system has been wiped and now my phone is bricked. Do you or any other member know of a 920G 6.01 firmware that is compatible for the USA? It appears the radios are not compatible causing it to FAIL in flashing it in Odin.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

1)Did you try to put 4files firmware that comes with BL,AP,Modem,CL separately?
2)As You can get into download mode successfully kindly install samsung smartswitch on your phone>connect your device to pc while in download mode>open smartswitch>select emergency software recovery so that it will recognise your device as well as actual latest firmware for your device to be installed
3)If smartswitch doesn't help anymore, try with full firmware(4 files firmwate of any of Latin American countries as you stated for USA, may be the country's that lies near to you by region) but this time you need to uninstall smartswitch or Samsung kies in case installed as it could possibly mess up with Odin flashing

Thank you for ur response. This is my first SamSung phone---I came from HTC and was familiar with their process of rooting and updating (which was a pain)--but I'm totally unfamiliar with Odin.
When you say put the files in separately---i'm not sure what you mean, cause when I extract the Update zip, I only get a a tar file---should I unzip in a folder?
Thanks again!!!
Use flash fire

Downgrade back to 5.0.1 from 6.0/7.0 for full root.

Not sure if anyone care or still want to go back to 5.0.1.
It is possible if you download COMBINATION_VZW_FA50_G925VVRU4AOJ1 (Google it yourself its free out there.)
After flashing combination file you can root it with kingroot then replace it with superuser ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/a310/general/how-to-remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-t3308989 ), then you can use flashfire to flash 5.0.1 rom.
You will need to keep the sboot/bootloader from combination file i order to boot with 5.0.1 kernel.
Anyone know if theres good rom that will still work with this method? I tied some stock root rom ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...ment/rom-stock-rooted-g925v-vru1aoc3-t3115121 ), it seems to be missing some file after flashing. It boots up gets signal, but it is buggy. If anyone know if bugs from flashing this way cannot be fixed then let me know so I can stop trying .
I flashed the COMBINATION_VZW_FA50_G925VVRU4AOJ1 tar file but how do it install apks so i can use kingroot. unless you have forum to share with me
I haven't used the XDA forums in over a year. I don't know if I have the courage to downgrade from 7.0 to 5.X

Something similar for me honestly. I just downloaded the firmware stated, did the steps and it seems to have worked fine. Even with root, I honestly liked 7.0 on this device. Dang locked BL. :/

You can install apks using ADB -- I think you can get it from Android Studio or try https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/
Once you have ADB installed, just connect your S6 to your PC, open terminal, and run "adb devices" to confirm your phone is visable
Then to install an apk, have it downloaded on your PC and run
"adb install {path/to/apk}"
Example:
adb install Downloads/NewKingrootV5.3.7_C197_B451_xda_release_2018_06_19_20180620193529_242043.apk
I don't really think there was a 5.0.1 ROM designed for the Revision 4 bootloader outside of the Combination Firmware. I think this may be a reason.

Correct, you just need the bootloader and kernel capable of booting the system up. This is how I was able to use any of the LP AP Build/System on my rev 3 Note5.
All the LP builds were rev 2. But I had a LP bootloader and kernel. Realistically someone should try, but you might need to root the combo firmware first and use flash fire/flashify/safestrap to flash the system image. Because ODIN might not let you.

Yea Odin pushing the rooted firmware with combo boot was patched on s8 about the same time. But now where using edl to push a rooted combination file with su flash fire and safestrap.
My s8 is running a bit 5 nougat combo which that bootloader is reserved for Oreo and pie. But I'm running a rooted system IMG I made up from a equivalent rev2 nougat system and runs fine other than 80% charge limmit on the newer combos. Even my j3 limmits to 80 on combo. But I found a hack to charge to 100% I got posted in the s8 threads. I'm gonna try this over the next few days. If there's a eng bootloader with permissive kernel nougat should be able to be rooted too.

This is what I was asking about though. I still can't get anyone to explain how to make the stock ROMs work on the newer more locked devices. It's like a big secret or something. But it is possible on the S6, Note5, and S8. Probably the S7 too.
But 5.0.1, 5.1.1, and 7.0 are built a lot differently and I imagine the method is different.

how to root , flash custom recovery and custom ROM on galaxy S10 5G (G977N)

Hello folks !
I just bought a galaxy S10 5G G977N and I found it difficult to work my way through all the changes made in rooting/custom roming smartphones (I had a galaxy S7 before that, it was pretty easy).
What I read for now :
How to root with magisk : https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root
How to install TWRP : https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxys105G.html
What I learned :
Rooting device is far more complicated than it was before. If I do so, I won't be able to update stock rom OTA, I'll have to reflash a patched recovery (AP file) for every update. This bothers me because its not convenient, and because messing with odin is way riskier than flashing zip from custom recovery and may brick my phone, so the less I use it, the better I think.
Plus, booting the phone will be a pain in the ass, having to do the right key combination
Installing TWRP will not change that.
What I'm wondering :
I'm a bit confused on how I will be able to update stock ROM (The way I understand it, I'll have to reinstall TWRP after each update)
And I'm even more confused about how all of this will work with custom ROMs.
Let's say I root my phone and install TWRP. If I want a custom ROM and keep it rooted, how will it work ? I'll have to unzip the ROM, patch the AP file with magisk, rezip it, flash it with twrp and voilà ? And I'll have the same key combination issue where I'll have to boot a certain way to access the rooted ROM, and if I don't, I'll boot on an unrooted ROM ?
Thank you a lot for helping. I'm really used to rooted and unbloated ROM (God I've forgotten how bloated stock ROMs are !) but the complexity of the operation stops me for now. I don't want to brick my phone and I'm not sure I'll have the courage to do all of this every 3 month for each update.
Hello!
This thread is a bit old. But since I had to dig the forum to find what I was looking for (and update my knowledge), maybe my answer will be useful for somebody else.

I agree! Thankfully, somebody smarter than me took care of that. You can thank ianmacd for his multidisabler (GitHub project's page; xda thread).
One of its functionality is to disable "Stock recovery auto-restoration".
If you want to see a guide for how to use it (for S10 5G Snapdragon only, but same principle apply for the others), afaneh92 wrote one! Same thing by corsicanu, but with official links to download TWRP (and his repository for the other stuff), and it works with other versions of the S10 too. corsicanu got his tools here if needed.
Be careful, you must format /data after disabling encryption with multidisabler. Back up your data first!
I won't be able to update stock rom OTA

No OTA if you root.
You can still upgrade the stock kernel/firmware to a newer Android version manually. Afterwards, flash TWRP, then flash multidisabler again, then run multidisabler in terminal. And, all good!
(Reflashing stock firmware disables "multidisabler")
Check for firmware updates on Samsung's changelog page.
Replace your S10 model number and CSC code in the link below:
doc.samsungmobile.com/YourModelNumber/YourCscCode/doc.html
To know which CSC you have:
Go to Settings > About phone > Software information > Service provider software version
The last line should show the current CSC (three characters), e.g. mine is KTC for Korean KTC devices.
doc.samsungmobile.com/sm-g977b/ftm/doc.html
corsicanu makes it easier for us, here is his github page for the S10.

To flash the ROM the first time:
Flash the ROM with TWRP (adb sideload), Format data/factory reset. Formating everything will reenable encryption if you had multidisabler installed first. I think. So I guess flash it afterwards, and format data again?
For example, you can follow Lineage OS's guide. But they don't take care of vbmeta, encryption, and other issues. I'm not sure why.
To update the ROM, it's easier: no need to reinstall multidisabler after a dirty flash. (Lineage guide to update their ROM)
I'm dropping some links you might need:
To download the last version of Odin (odin3-v3-14-1_3b_patched-zip as of date): realbbb's XDA thread.
All the versions of TWRP for the beyondx (G977B and N, maybe other letters too )
Ok. That's all for now. Good luck!

How can I force heimdall/Odin/device to accept the older firmware and downgrade it?

I have the same problem.
Hello ilf_, it is impossible to go back to an earlier firmware.
Example from 12 to 11 or 10 impossible, on the other hand after what I read you have to reinstall the firmware image example 11 if android 12 is installed, you have to be good at it
explanation here https://azurplus.fr/comment-retrograder-votre-telephone-android-vers-une-version-precedente/
Thanks for your reply, meric57.
However, I am a little confused: it is impossible or is it possible (but "you have to be good at it")?
The link you posted gives generic instructions how to flash firmware, unspecific to downgrades and unspecific to the S10.
I have already tried to flash old firmware with the regular steps, but the devices gives said error.
Is there a way to force the S10 to accept the older firmware? Or not?

I don't think the older version can be installed in this case. I temporarily installed the HVJ1 firmware until I can install a custom ROM. Developers will surely adapt their custom ROMs to this new version of HVJ1. You just have to wait.
Hello ilf-, the official firmware image must be installed with adb as explained. I have read that it is impossible to downgrade android 12 to 11 example, as on the internal memory the android 12 version will be installed so returning or flashing will be impossible.
If not, you can always look for a custom rom under android 11 or 10 of your choice, install magisk then TRWP to be able to install a custom rom with odin.
meric57: I think we have a different definition of "firmware".
When I say firmware, I mean the Wikipedia definition: "In computing, firmware is a specific class of computer software that provides the low-level control for a device's specific hardware."
I mean the 66 MB tar from Linux4, consisting of "cm, dqmdbg, keystorage, modem, modem_debug, param, sboot, uh, up_param". This does NOT include a version of the Android operating system. This is installed via heimdall or Odin in download mode, see Linux4 and my first post.
You seem to understand "firmware" as a bundle of the firmware I mean PLUS a version of the Android operating system. That is 5.3 Gigabytes and distributed on sites like sammobile.com and samfw.com. And that is installed via adb in recovery mode.
But my problem is only with the "small" firmware, so that's all I want to downgrade. I have no problem with the Android operating system and I do not want to touch that.

I solved problem.
From samfw.com I downloaded AMO firmware HVI4. Now I can install Lineage OS and AOSP Android 13.
Great for you, ZmisiS. But that doesn't solve my problem or answer my original question. I don't want to re-install any Android (neither Lineage nor AOSP). I only want to downgrade my firmware.

I've been searching the Internet a lot these days for a solution, but without success. I think that is impossible.

Good source for firmwares?

I'm looking for a good source of firmwares, i know the famous sites but some firmwares doesn't seem to be listed. I know in the time os Samsung KIES there were tools which communicated directly with samsung.
For example these firmware builds for the SM-G975Ux aren't listed on most firmware sites but have the December secutiry update with binary/bootloader version 8: G975USQS8IVL1 and G975USQS8IVL2
All the big sites have ROMs for that phone (same one I have). There is no "Ux" model... it's *U or *U1, with the latter being unlocked. IF you search for U1 ROMs you have many selections, but most get the XAA version which will usually change carriers automatically based on the SIM card.
The latest BL=8 version I see there is https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/g...M-G975U1/XAA/download/G975U1UEU8IWB6/1741280/ which is the February 2023 security update. I believe this is the last one we are getting (but I could be mistaken as there may be 1 more security patch, I don't remember).
There's U U1 0 W F N .... I'm looking for the oldest firmware with binary version 8, but it seems the sites don't show all firmwares available.... i'm looking for the oldest firmware with U8 bootloader (or any compatible bootloader with binary 8 version), i could have a look at all sites and try my luck... but they don't seem to have all data. but like i said i prefer some original source xml files... i saw some url's to original samsung servers but can't find them anymore.
There is already a firmware available with the march update.... but you have to be lucky to find them... i'm looking for original sources. like update.zip's and such
Found the first one....

I'd recommend around sammobile and samfw. These are the two sources I use the most
hey!
after I wanted to update my g973f from "G973FXXUGHVK1" to "G973FXXSGHWC2" (I tried odin 3.13 and odin 3.14) and an error occurred, I can't install anything anymore... recovery and download mode work, and I can also flash the original firmware, but the device no longer boots into the system! even custom roms don't want to boot anymore
Can anybody help me further?

Do you mind explaining a bit more? Do you mean like that it boots you into recovery only or?

if i flash a new rom (whether original or custom rom) nothing happens after the reboot... download mode works too, flashing twrp works too! however, the system boot does not work via twrp either... not even a bootloop, the cell phone does not react at all! the task combination for
Right now I don't even care if I get the original firmware or a custom rom running... I hope I didn't brick it (((
My old device was a G930F, its unbreakable make sure you flash the right rom and wipe data and dalvik cache after flashing.... THis ons is locked so it doesn't have fastboot. My G-930F came with fastboot enabled so you can always fastboot a recovery.img. like TWRP
Did you try to download TWRP from twrp.me and "fastboot boot twrp-3.7.0_9-0-herolte.img" ? it should boot to twrp in fastboot mode (hold volume down + home + power).

1. is your KG status is broken?
2. Is your bootloader unlocked?
You know how to flash lineageos through twrp right? and how to use odin?
Maybe flash lineageos to see if everything works.... and then revert to original software. Be sure to wipe cache/dalvik and userdata

Yes, I know there are many other variant firmwares out there, but for a U phone (snapdragon) there is really only U and U1... the rest are incompatible.
There is no "older" firmware with binary 8, because the firmwares are packaged with the proper/compatible binary already. Basically, the "binary" is the bootloader version. On Snapdragon phones, you must have the proper BL/binary to flash, as you already know. You can't interchange the binary/BL with the ROM and security updates because they are not made that way.
The update.zip you're looking for are updates sent by Samsung directly, and they can update the ROM (and Binary) from one stock version to another... but, again, they will update both the binary/BL as well as the ROM, so they can't be broken up to only do one or the other.
It sounds like you're trying to get to an older ROM version (for whatever reason) with an older security patch level as well? Basically, this cannot be done on Snapdragon phones. Once you're on an updated binary/BL, you're stuck there (at least today you are).

I solved the problem! I had unlocked the bootloader, but I also had to deactivate verity via CMD with twrp+adb "adb disable-verity"
ok i've solved the problem now, but does anyone know why i couldn't even start the original stock roms? Actually, the stock ROM should set everything to factory settings...

Thank you for helping so quickly with ideas... I would not have expected such quick help with such an old model, even samsung customer service didn't want to help me yesterday

I've tried different firmwares, its all about snapdragon. You can also flash SM-G975W parts and other snapdragon variants.... there's a lot of variants out there.
I first upgraded and then downgraded to the parts i wanted and am on a rom now with security patch level December 2022, as long as the binary version is the same there's no problem. I've got the latest modem installed and the oldest firmare and bootloader for the latest binary version, i can upgrade or downgrade my bootloader. I already asked someone before if this was possible and if he could confirm because before i was only able to flash CSC and AP i think.
If there's no updates comming anymore why not downgrade and wait for a new leak
I'm also sure we can unlock the bootloader, i'm trying to make an lposed module. I've installed lspatch and lposed and they work fine for some modules. The bootloader unlock has several prerequisites (properties and such) if i can make it look for other properties or something like that we might get an unlock option. Also it looks for an encrypted file on EFS, if someone with an unlocked samsung phone could copy that file we would be a lot further.
It's called /efs/sec_efs/sktdm_mem/encmembership.txt and should be an encrypted file, also if anyone knows how to set ro properties without root (like a stub before the preference controller starts) this would be very usefull.
