As a former Galaxy S1 user, I never noticed this yellow tinting or discoloration issue on my phone and Im wondering if anyone here is having this issue as the SGS2 is plagued by that issue..
Basically the SGS2 shows a yellow tint on the left side of the screen or as some may perceive it as darker/warmer.
Heres the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079444
Would anyone be so kind enough to take photo's of their notification tray dropped down ( using a stock theme ) or just goto this link on your phone and take an actual photo using a camera and post it here, it would be a great help in my research, Thanks!
EDIT:
Please post the pictures of your SGS1 here.
Nobody wanna contribute images?
Here my pictures of my Galaxy S GT-I9000 (White Color)
http://s1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff425/cronosmachine/GalaxyS
I'm very disappointed, is brand new.
Just 2 weeks old, purchased at July 25, 2011.
Look like color temperature issues, did you try any kernel with voodoo color? Users report its doing a good job of neutralizing the colors.
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) phone about one week ago. I noticed a problem with the screen. The problem is like this:
When I am in a very dark room (and make sure my eyes have adapted to the darkness), and display a completely black image with the phone, the screen is not completely black. This is NOT the problem I want to say. The problem which bothers me is that, inside this gray screen I can notice some really black spots, just like the screen has been spattered by some black ink (but is has not).
Why is this a problem? Because even if the screen cannot be perfectly black when displaying a completely black image, it should still be uniform; but this is not the case!
This problem is similar to the one described in this web page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150171
Maybe I should add that this problem never affect its performance in normal conditions. It only shows up when the environment is completely dark and when it display something really black.
So I would like to know whether this problem is caused by a defect of the phone.
A photo is attached. It was taken with a long exposure time. The photo is taken with a small Canon camera, with ISO = 200, and an exposure time of 15 seconds.
This thread has some discussion regarding the issue. I have these marks on my SGS2 screen as well; bit of a nuisance really.

Mine is pitch black as far as i can tell. However, when i run screenfilter, it dims the colors but the background (normally black) becomes a light grey.

Did you look at the screen (when displaying a black image) in a very dark room?

All OLEDs can have this issue. I would imagine more have it than not. My old Zune HD did this. My note has it, my Infuse has it. If you are into watching black screens with nothing on them in pitch black rooms, then stay away from OLED screens. Since you really can't see this with normal use, I would say it is no big deal.
Your video issue is something else all together. That is just a boneheaded gamma setting by Samsung. Shades below 4 (with my gamma test image) aren't smoothly ramped down, they are just eliminated entirely! This gives a noticeable step from shadow details to black, which shows compression tiling that you normally wouldn't see..
I believe physical damage causes this problem..because last week when my girlfriend tossed Me my deo can it accidentally hit the screen and since then there's a huge black spot in that area thankfully though it's only visible on a pitch black image ....like the bootscreen
so no issues
This belong in Q&A
My very first Note had blotches visible even in daylight on a gray background. I had it replaced the next day under Samsung early life failure policy (first 30 days). Second phone had blotches visible only on a black background in a dark room. So did 3rd, 4th and 5th! However, the 5th Note had blotches around the edges unlike the other 4 Notes so I decided to keep it. The fact is: ALL Notes 1 have blotches. If you can't see blotches consider yourself blessed. Blotches are the only thing I hate about Note 1.

even though a lot of screens have this, Id send it back if I was you. I think its unacceptable for aproduct this expensive. It shoukd be flawless. So quickly call upon warrantee.
Next time, dont leave the store without doing an instore test, that way you can return it immediately with no questions asked

It's a bit hard to do a "dark room" test in store. After the 5th I gave up my search for a perfect screen. Until Samsung changes their AMOLED manufacturing process and improve QC there won't be "perfect" screens.

The problem is these dark spots won't appear even on the standard *#0*# screen test .
so it's kind of a non issue but what I am worried about it is, will it deteriorate in time and become an issue later on ?

The LG V10 has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I dont know if you guys and gals with good eyes notice.. But I suggest anyone looking at an LG G4 or v10 to look at and read the screens with reading glasses on.. The IPS screen clarity is unrivaled.
For my eyes, the ever so slight increase in size to the G4 makes the screen easier to read.

I think the display has excellent clarity and with 560 DPI you would be hard pressed to see imperfections. Could it be something wrong with your software configuration as hardware problems would be evident all the time ?

That is software problem. If it was hardware it would affect everything

I'm really enjoying the clarity of the resolution, but in the last few days I've started to notice something strange. Had the V10 for almost a month now. I've noticed that every now and then, when I hit the power button while looking at the screen, it looks like an old 3D effect (seen without the glasses), around all writing and icons. It looks like red & blue outlines, sort of 1/2 & 1/2, and only for a millisecond or so. Anyone else seeing bad 80's 3D?

It's hard to understand what you are seeing.
It could be the Lock Screen's Swipe Effect or maybe the Blurred background view that happens when the phone is On and the Power button is held down to view the Shut down choices.
Check those to see if they are causes

Very good to me.
I do wear glasses for close up, yet don't need them with this phone.
So i have been noticing this since quite a lot of days. The p20 pro has black crush issue in videos. The screen tester apps dont show it because the problem is only while playimg videos. The black shadows are never really black. To test this you need to watch a video with complete blacks in 0% brightness in dark room. You will see that there are white dots in the black screen. Its so much irritating, hope huawei fixes it soon as it is most likely a software bug like on s9
As an example if you see at the very start of the video where the helmet falls, the screen should be completely black whereas on a close look you can actually see white dots all over screen
I can see it in your video, but it doesn't happen on my screen in the same situation.

So you mean the blacks are perfectly black for you on zero brighntess in a dark room while playing this video?
I can see the white dots on my p20 as well as on my pc... I think thats what the video should look like... Its like dirt falling at the same time as the helmet.

The background in this video is not completely black for me in the conditions i mentioned. It feels like the pixels do light up
Btw it must be some software bug because the borders which were not covered by video including the sides of notch are completely black

@mathab you cant compare with a pc. You need some other amoled display device because the pc will light up the pixels as well. Anyway also try the other video posted in next comment.
Edit: you can try this too
I thought where talking about the little white dots on the first video
In the last video you posted I can see backlight in every scene :/ just as you.
Dont have any amoled screen at hand to test (cause maybe the video does not have true blacks ¿?)

Yes this is what i have been trying to say. And the weird thing is it only happens in video and not on sides of notch where the video doesnt play. So the issue is not with the screen but the huawei firmware. Hope they roll out a fix soon.
I personally believe there are many users with this problem but they havent noticed it.
I do see them to when the brightness is low! I notice that when you scroll on any page that got black content, a sort of purple shadow follow the black content. Anyone experience this?
Hi,
Recently I was scrolling through the zentalk forums and Flipkart reviews of the ROG 3 and came across several people complaining about black crush on the display as an issue.
Im worried about it being a widespread problem as I plan to order the phone soon and don't know whether this is due to ASUS choosing poor displays or due to some people recieving a defective phone.
I'd appreciate if those of you who have the phone could tell me about whether you notice any black crush and to what extent, also if you could please do the black crush test on youtube(by a channel called TestRaFx) and post your results for 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% brightness that would be amazing.
(NOTE: For the test just check upto what square you can see/distinguish on each brightness level)
Ya it's there
Ya Heavy black crush while watching videos on YouTube. Especially for Dark scene it's easily visible. I have requested replacement as no refund option was available.
So much disappointed.

Thank you so much, my results are currently as follows(Samsung galaxy note 4):
0%= 30
25%= inconsistent based on slight brightness discrepancies, but atleast a 7
50%= 4
75%= 3
100%= 3
It seems like you must've gotten a faulty display, no way that could be a genuine result for most units, unless Asus has purposefully provided us with bad quality displays.
May I ask what refresh rate you did the test in? Since I know that many high refresh rate screens suffer from black crush more than 60Hz displays.
Also it's interesting that at minimum brightness we have the same black crush but it gets very different during the mid ranges and then you almost catch up again at 100%. I read in android authority that the cinematic colour profile on the ROG is the most colour accurate, you could try that and see if it helps.
Mine is
0% - 25
25% - 12
50% - 9
75% -7
100% - 5
Is it okay or faulty?
Is it that bad? At what brightness should we set it to avoid this issue? Im planning to buy the phone but i think most amoled phones have this even op8pro except nubia rm5g but i dont like nubia having stucked widevine l3 and fast battery draining phone

Actually my order is on way rt now and i just bought the base model 865+ 12/128 and cost me only around 625 usd, which i fell is very sweet deal for the specs. I just want to know if this is normal for this unit or not be bothered to get a replacement.

Yours seems to be fine. A 5 for an amoled is average, it's not the best you can buy(that's usually Samsung) but it's good enough that you shouldn't notice too much. Also, if you want to make it better, try setting it at 60Hz and see if it makes a difference.

I think it's just the luck of the draw. You're more likely to get a non defective unit than a defective one, but again, it's really just based on luck.
As for whether it's that bad, I haven't gotten mine yet, but I don't think you'll notice it for most situations unless you're lying in bed with the lights turned off. This is assuming you get a normal unit.
As for the OnePlus, I was actually quite interested in that phone, but it has way more than just black crush. People were reporting holepunch banding and green tint on their units, so I didn't want to risk it.
Nubia is a decent choice but I don't trust their after sales service. Atleast Asus is very well known in the PC market and can be contacted with relative ease.
Sad thing is that if I didn't have the exynos versions of Samsung in my region, I probably would've gone for their s20+, but alas, they've forced my hand and I decided to take a leap of faith with the Rog instead. Here's to hoping our units are good quality.

Just note down the lowest number at which you can distinguish a grey box from a black one at 0,25, 50, 75 and 100% brightness.
Yeah, it sucks

And when I turn the brightness to 0%, the display turns really strange. Only in Netflix, not other apps. But it's pretty serious problem I think

Asus actually spoke about the Netflix problem in their forums. Basically, don't use the app's inbuilt brightness slider because for some reason it changes gamma instead of brightness, so rather use the system slider from the toggle menu to change brightness.
If it's only there in Netflix then you're probably not experiencing any black crush per se, it's just that Netflix works weird on the ROG.

The test at https://youtu.be/fv6T7aHsd54
All you need to do is go to a dark room, and check upto which box you can distinguish grey from black.
Please test it at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% brightness, and check on both 144hz as well as 60hz.
Ok guys it took me hours finding a fix mixing colors etc but i have found a temporary solution for this
1. Download Screen Balance from Playstore(developed by QuickDoc)
2. Turn it On
3. Im on free version of the app so i am only able to try what is available
Follow settings below
Flouroscent
Strenght 90
Contrast 100
Brightness 0
Greatly Helps, thank me later lmao
So basically i think this can be fixed by a software update but need an expert calibration
