Need EFS backup from V405QA - LG V40 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, for developing unlock of Sprint v40, we need EFS backup from unlocked model V405QA (to compare some things between models).
You can do it by QFIL and QPST tools (to eliminate possible bugs)
Turn on Diag mode: In dialer *#546368#*405#, type 000000 in service code, then press SVC menu -> Port Check Test -> Enable.
Manual for QPST: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/guide-qpst-tool-backup-imei-nvram-t3455297
Manual for QFIL: Start QFIL. Open Tools -> QCN Backup Restore. Click Browse and save it in cozy place. Press Backup QCN.
After finish you should see: «Done downloading the qcn file: C:\temp\00000000.qcn» and «Finish Backup QCN».
Manual for NV-items_reader_writer: Set port, click checkbox right after 000000, click Connect, Click Read button right after Connect button, click Read in main window.
Dont forget to turn off Diag mode after.
Many thanks! Your help for community will be greatly appreciated.

Hi.. i was wondering if we backup EFS from Sprint unlocked and restore it to Sprint locked will unlock the network for worldwide sim card?
Would it do any harm or changes to Sprint locked v40's IMEI?
I currently owned a Sprint unlocked LG v40.. bought it from Ebay, put in my Indonesian simcard and works perfect.. 3G/HSPA+/LTE great

Probably yes, with crossflashing unlocked firmware it can be big win for locked sprints.
IMEI will not change, we are searching only for items that locking network to sprint.
Im away till 11 march, but if I can contact you and help with backup, it will be great.

So the job is to get both sets of efs locked and not locked then compare and take what makes the phone unlocked and copy that info into the locked efs then write back?

What about nv items? Just like samsungs j727p is unlocked nv items will be easier then doing the whole efs system.
I can test anything you want not afraid to brick

How did you crossflash?
Also i believe when cross flashing a v30 it doesn't touch the efs system either it just bypasses the lock its still there but because of the new firmware it tricks it into working thats what i was under impressions.

If you have a functional LGUP version and DLL for crossflashing V40, please share, this would be a huge help for many folks here.
I have extracted the DLL from the latest LM-V405EBW KDZ but haven't been able to locate a version of LGUP which will successfully flash the device.

Not sure that I can help, but I'm willing to try, provided you are willing to work with a n00b (who can follow instructions, though).
I've got a XT056 (Sprint Moto X) that I've had active for more than 90days on an account that is several years old. In theory, I should be able to get Sprint to unlock the radios for international GSM. In theory. But I've never (never, EVER) gone to Sprint with a question/concern/request that wasn't made vastly worse for their participation. But I would be willing to try for a worthy project. And this seems to me worthy.
Right now, I am on 4.2.2 rooted (via RockMyMoto). I'm on the verge of unlocking my bootloader so that I can conveniently update to KK and not lose root. Will any of this interfere with the collection of data you require? If not, exactly how do I capture that data? If, as the quoted passage suggests, you basically want the complete file system, then I will grab that when I unlock the bootloader but before I restore my info. I trust that a fresh install prior to signing on will still contain the relevant info?

Hello) You don't need to unlock bootloader! When GSM Unlock will be done just copy all files in root system folder ( / ) by X-plore or RootExplorer. It will be normal for start... Thanks!
If you need testers, I volunteer. I've had an ebay-purchased Sprint Moto X sitting on my desk at work for months now that is otherwise useless to me, so I might as well put it to good use!
There will be a great lot of testers, as according to number of topics in this section there are lots of those who made a great choice to buy sprint x
Now just someone with ota unlocked x should help OP
+1, i'm in the same boat.
I can try to help.

I believe I have an unlocked phone (although I haven't tested it yet outside the US; in the US a T-Mobile SIM did not work; but that's not surprising), and would be happy to help. I'm getting my phone sim unlocked, have the request into sprint at the moment. I want to give you a clean dump, so after its sim unlocked, would unlocking the bootloader to wipe it, do anything to the sim lock?

Guide SIM UNLOCK T-MOBILE version all type of IMEI supported

I was trying to sim unlock bad IMEI (financed) all services refused to unlock I managed to sim unlock very easy
1 you need to convert to international version follow this thread By AnonymousTipster ( great thanks ) (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/t-mobile-6t-to-international-t3888307 )
2 unlock bootloader
3 type this commands
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot reboot
thats all
you can also backup modemst1 and modemst2 files before this steps
you won't loose imei or have some problem phone works without any problem just tested
Congrats bro
Alright bro, I thought this was an early April fool's joke at first but it's apparently not. Congrats n sorry for the early doubts... I had just read your posts about trying a sim unlock thru some company and it being successful but the tmo app wasn't working so I figured that's where your sim got unlocked it had just carried over to the international version but apparently not. It's crazy that this is how easy it is to bootloader unlock & unlock your sim. Definitely backup your modemst with readback mode in msm
I can help you do what you need as I've done it before. pm me.

1 phone is not stolen its financed ordered from ebay as unlocked I was scammed was not able to return from oversies
2 you can backup your modems and then try deleting with this commands they are not deleting I tryed 2 times
3 after blowfish confirmed that phone was unlocked opened unlock app > permanent unlock was receiving same error delleted app data same error factory reset - same error reflashed firmware same error after that this commands worked
all unlock services included blowfish unlock cellunlocker few one from ebay . tyed many of them they refunded money (blowfish returned credits to account) main reason wan device was not active 40 days this services can unlock bad imei phones but if device was not active 40 days they can't more than month I was trying to unlock but only this commands worked if you think you will loose modems to backup try this method
Download & Open up Terminal Emulator on your phone
Once it's open you'll be greeted with a command line prompt, in which you can enter text commands, the first thing you need to do is enable root access by entering this line (press the enter key on your on-screen keyboard after each command to issue it):
Code:
su
If this is the first time you've used Terminal Emulator a Superuser or SuperSU popup will appear, make sure you grant root access.
Now enter these two commands:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/sdf2 of=/sdcard/modemst1.bin bs=2048
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/sdf3 of=/sdcard/modemst2.bin bs=2048

Bro ur funny we use magisk n we don't dd modems thru terminal to back anything up.... Tell me technically what sense would it make to delete your modem how would that unlock your sim? See if u really did unlock ur sim n bootloader for free by flashing to international and then deleting ur modems (lol) then you would have put twrp on and actually rooted upgraded to beta 7 or flashed an aosp (at least that's what I'd assume cause that's what we unlock the bootloader for) so post some screenshots of whatever ROM ur on or a video of the process with u proving ur not lying. Cause as far as I know absolutely no information regarding the devices unlocked sim state reside in the modem. Imei in Efs maybe or on the board in the phone but not on a piece of a stock rom that some of the best developers on here just overlooked but u magically figured it out.... Quit it dude go home

Some people I know discovered this work around in November if u make a modemst back up of both modems first, use msm readback to backup imei, then wipe modem, then sim unlocked, restore modem files and imei with msm readback mode. It's just very risky. So if u know how to use msm readback mode and smt mode then go for this, @nika_bego you are correct. For the haters, grow up man, u are incorrect, this man is correct. There are multiple ways to do things in android. I was part of the initial team that first achieved root with this phone with a locked bootloader via aging kernel. Which then led to wiping the modems..we had to keep it between ourselves or chaos would erupt on xda. Plus the mods get so upset if u talk about hacks, modded apps, imei anything and restoring stuff.
Thanks, good job man

I don't believe this guy either. However it is actually true that converting the TMO variant to the International using this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/t-mobile-6t-to-international-t3888307 will allow a simple
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
instead of having to go through OnePlus/TMO to get unlock.bin file.
Doing the conversion, then unlocking the bootloader, then rooting as normal. However I do not for one second believe that erasing the modem will unlock the SIM.
Edit: Looks like it might be possible to SIM unlock with this HOWEVER it requires MORE STEPS not only what is listed in the OP.
OP - Can you please update your post with a full, detailed list, of what to do?

It shouldn't if you SIM Unlocked thru T-Mobile.
Will reverting back to stock relock the bootloader? I'm 99.999% sure it will.
But... Well the unlock token from OP still work? I'm tempted to try it when my token arrives tomorrow. Not like I can't make a TWRP backup of my current system and restore it after I go back to international. In theory.
Yes it reverts. If you are sim unlocked you can just unlock it or use the bin if not.

I don't see why it wouldn't, but haven't tested it myself.

I'm SIM unlocked. Just wondering if the bin from OP would still work to unlock the tmo branded version after it's been converted to the US unlocked 21AA software and back

Good to know. I assumed it was based on the device IMEI, but I've never owned any other oneplus devices. Didn't know how that worked with them.
What will happen if I forgot to uncheck sha256 check? I just did
Update: Nevermind just closed the program and started over, really thought I was gonna brick my phone but everything worked out!

Sprint crossflash to US unlocked pie

I did the crossflash of my lg v40 to the US unlocked pie V405UA20a very very simply without unlocking bootloader, root or some other step. Everything works great, my imei was not deleted, nor my serial number. just flash the kdz by installing lgup and ... can i help you to do the crossflash
Everything works perfect but there is no option for Wi-Fi calls? someone knows?

So could you explain how you did the crossflash with the bootloader not being unlocked. I have LGUP installed and the US unlocked KDZ file. It failed for me.
Which guide did you use or if you care to explain the steps here. Thanks!
EDIT: Figured it out.
New question, are you able to put TWRP on your phone with current methods out there? if so, how?
Will OTA still work?

Do you mind sharing how you figured it out? I've tried doing this with my Sprint unlocked device but I have had no success so far. Device isn't recognized despite downloading LG Mobile Drivers.

Yes. I'm not very good in English and I do not know how to create a guide here in XDA. But give me a chance and I'll try
[Guide]
I am not responsible if something goes wrong.
everything works perfect with total comptability, but I can't confirm if fastboot can be accessed after crossflash. Also, there is no option of wifi calling or calling plus, I cannot confirm OTA, because I installed android pie and it is the latest version for US unlocked. ***Maybe if you install the latest android 8 oreo before ,then you can test if ota works***

firmware: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmv405qa-firmwares/#tab=firmwares
*rename the firmware file to pie.kdz and put in desktop*
install lg usb drivers (be sure your device can adb. enable usb debugging, open command and put adb devices. check notification on the device and hit always. also Switch between all USB connection modes from the mobile so that Windows installs all the drivers
install lg up
Put LGUP_command.dll it into the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common ( if there is no common folder, create one and put the file there )
now...
put device in download mode
power off device
connect usb cable to pc, but not the phone
Hold and keep phone volume up
Plug your USB Cable to your phone while holding volume up, already in download mode, release volume up button
now go to device manager an check in ports/lge the value number for example com3, save it
Then go back to C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP
Hold the shift key and right click on a free space.
Choose to open a command prompt or PowerShell in Windows 10
After oppening it, type cmd and hit enter.
now you need to put this
lgup_cmd.exe com3 “C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common\LGUP_Common.dll” “C:\Users\your desktop username\Desktop\pie.kdz
and hit enter, but need to change the com number value. for example mine was com3. if yours is com2, com5 or another just change the number.
and that is. if you do it right then it will start flashing and you will see the progress on the mobile and the powershell
I have an Lg V40 sprint unlocked, would I lose the unlock if I try this?

Recover IMEI?

Well I have been modding phones for a while, and I've been able to avoid anything this catastrophic so far, but yesterday while using Qfil, I clicked on erase entire flash.
So far I have recovered everything except my IMEI so my phone is not connected to my network. My question is can anyone help recover or restore my IMEI to my ATT Locked LG V40 with unlocked BL and Unlocked Rom?

probably my guess is a no, you can get those back by flashing a kdz or using qfil unbrick method see if they restore imei

Not long enough obviously, one of the first things suggested before flashing anything is to backup the IMEI partition, EFS for Samsung, to avoid having an expensive paper weight like the one in front of you..
Might need to find someone with a box now.

Really I've never heard that before...I only backup what's tickable in TWRP .-. I think IMEI might be one of those options...
