Holding the power button down and volume down buttons simultaneously for a few seconds will force the phone to turn off

You may need to reset your phone, there could be an issue with one of the themes.
Agreed. Factory reset. I forget how to, but Google lgv40 enter recovery, and you'll get the button combination.

So that could be the problem? The reason I am asking bought it second hand and was wondering if something else could be wrong, or if that was an LG V40 issue. Thanks for the input.:good:
We aren't sure, you should perform a remote wipe via Google find.. That will factory reset the device. Check if it stills persists

Usually that's the issue when the System UI crashes, especially since we don't have root, there aren't many things we can do to crash the UI.

Hi everyone, I'm sure this question has been answered before but being a complete noob, I honestly don't understand ANY of the technical terms such as "rooting", "flashing", "ROMS", etc etc. So most of the answers I have read make zero sense to me.
My phone started bootlooping when it was in my bag and I have no idea why it started doing so. The battery ended up draining enough to get it out of the bootloop and it was working fine for a day or so, until I put it back in my bag to go out and when I took it out, it was bootlooping again.
What I am trying to ask is what might be the cause of this and is there anyone who can explain how to fix this issue (in simple terms) so that I'd understand?
Cheers.
mine is doing same!

Well I don't know what rooting or mods are, so I doubt it is anything like that. The only things I've really done with my phone are install apps from the play store, torrent music using utorrent and save images/pictures. I thought that maybe it was due to my phone overheating in my bag as it has been rather hot the past few days. Could that be a possible reason?
Just do a factory reset

Well the thing is, I can't do a factory reset because whenever I try to access that menu that has all the options, it starts looping before I can choose anything, and for some reason the buttons dont always work

since it seems you haven't done anything to your phone (ie unlocking, custom ROMs, etc), this could likely be a hardware problem.
how's the power button working? damaged?
you can also do a factory reset in bootloader, power off your phone, then hold VOLDOWN, press POWER, keep holding VOLDOWN until the bootloader appears (the white screen, with a few options), you use VOLUP and VOLDOWN to move the "cursor" and POWER to select the option you want.

cant do that because as lostpigeon said it loops again before we get a chance to select anything! mine has been doing it out of the blue since this morning , cant turn off or anything . . .loops and loops over and over every 13 seconds.

if it's rebooting in bootloader, then it's very likely the power button that's the problem, for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563572
what can you do to fix the power button? tried drying the phone although it hasnt got wet.

off to warranty...
hardware problems are very hard to fix; and i'm not saying it's the power button for sure, it's just highly likely it is, if it's rebooting bootloader.

How long have you had the phone, defects like that should be automatically covered regardless.

The problem with my phone is that I found it. Turned it in and no one claimed it for a substantial amount of time so I gained ownership of it. I don't have the warranty or anything that came with the phone except for the phone itself and the charger. If I took it to a phone repair shop would they possibly be able to fix it? Or am I screwed...
Okay so I let my phone run out of battery over night and just plugged it in to charge then and it's seemed to have gotten out of the bootloop and it working normally now, so would this still possibly be a hardware issue? And is there anything I can do to prevent it from bootlooping again?
i phoned up orange and they said to ring htc as ive only had the phone for 5 months . will ring them 2moro. pain in the ass.

Im not sure this is hardware related, there are a few things you can try though to prevent this from happening again. first off, if you ever do encounter another bootloop... pressing and holding in the power button for around 20 seconds or so forces a reboot, the capacitive button on the bottom will start to blink. Second would be to boot into thee bootloader by powering down the phone, holding the volume down button and powering back on while holding voldown. this will bring you to a menu described above eariler, then do a factory reset.

my phone will auto close after i open it for around 20+sec,around like that.
when i open it in download mode or by clicking it with volume up + power key + home button, the phone will not auto shut down.
At first i tot it was software problem so i self re-install the firmware and factory reset, but at the end still then same.
can anyone tell me how to solve this problem? it was hard or soft ware problem?:crying:
video can be provided it needed.

I am facing the same problem as urs, have you got any answer or what is the solution.

Seems like either a boot loop, or damaged battery. I would:
Try to flash the stock rom again and if not fixed, try to change battery.
Does the phone charge when off?

Does that happen only to me? I'm on SM-N950U (T-Mobile), I add a second language in Samsung Keyboard, I change some other settings in it as well and then restart my phone. After that the keyboard hast lost every setting I changed and also it shows me again the first time tips.
I guess I need to do a factory reset just to be sure, but before doing that, I would appreciate if someone else could confirm if this issue exists in its phone or not.

BTW: I'm in process of performing a Factory Reset on my device. Will keep you posted.....

I'm having some issues with the camera when in landscape mode.
In portrait mode, everything is working fine but once I rotate the camera to landscape, the "viewfinder" takes up only about 25% of the screen and moves to the top left . The rest of the screen has rows of arrows!!
I have no idea how this happened as it was working fine yesterday.
I tried force stopping the camera app and rebooting but it didnt help.
TIA

Try to clear data on the camera app, restart the phone into recovery and wipe cache only.
If it continues to do so then you can either factory reset your phone or wait for an update to the camera app.
Just tried that and still didnt help.
Samsung support told me to bring the phone to ubreakifix store in lower Manhattan.
They said they can load updates that they receive from samsung.

It's a software problem. You should reset to factory before you go to uberakifix.

Thats what I ended up doing. Took a while but it solved the problem.
Cat knocked my note 8 off the dresser. It cracked the screen, have a line across it near the bottom but still worked fine. UNTIL I got an auto update today. When I reboot the phone, screen works great. When the screen times out and I turn it back on all I get is a green screen Now every time I need it I have to restart for it to work. Any ideas? Screen works in safe mode.

OTA's can cause bugs so you could try flashing stock filmware with Odin but I would guess that it's a screen problem caused by the fall and will need to be repaired unfortunately.

The old jedi cache trick... beats doing a factory restore
I clear it about once a month or if I get erratic behavior.
