Unlocked Sprint LG V40 for use on Tmobile - LG V40 Questions & Answers

I'm novice to the whole rooting scene so please cope with me.
I found a good deal on almost new Lg v40 from a Sprint user.
We'll meet at Sprint store to verify device is paid off and unlock it.
Once Sprint unlocks it, can I just use this device on Tmobile with my Tmobile sim and will it have band 71 or do I need to have Tmobile fw on it to open band 71 ?
Lg website lists in specs for sprint model (model LM-V405UA) as having band 71.
Can anyone confirm ?

I don't think Sprint uses the same LTE bands.

Mine works just fine on T-mobile as of a week or so ago when i got it .Mine is the Sprint version full network & Factory UNLOCKED.
To make sure your GSM unlocked go to system/system-updates--
Then look in the list UICC Unlock it should say -----( The Device is unlocked for any SIM card )

*Edit - confirmed band 71 is only active in the tmo model, I went with it vs an unlocked variant*
Are you able to use band 71/600mhz? I've seen comments suggesting band 71 isn't enabled in any other model besides tmo, even though specs show all variants having the same band capability.
I'm in the same boat, on tmo & tempted by the lower priced unlocked variant, but would like to confirm band 71 is usable before ordering one.

my sprint v40 was working on t mobile for about two weeks then it went dead and lost its network settings now i cant seem to get it back on tmobile some1 help ! i did the uicc unlock and enable oem unlock

OEM unlock is specifically for bootloader unlocking not network unlocking..

I will be able to report back in about a week whether band 71 works.
I bought the Sprint version of the V40.
I am on Sprint now.
I am crossflashed to US.
I am switching to T-Mobile at the end of the week.
I live in a Band 71 market.
[NG]Owner

So I have switched to TMobile.
I used the hidden Service Menu ( *#546368#*405# ) to force the phone to Band 71. It did not connect to Band 71, instead to Band 2, as reported by LTE Discovery.
I then used the hidden Service Menu ( *#546368#*405# ) to force the phone to Band 12. It did connect to Band 12 as reported by LTE Discovery.
So either band 71 doesn't work, or I don't have access to Band 71 from my house. I have heard that there are confirmed Band 71 sightings in Kansas City, so I will go there to try. Once I do I'll report back.
Both VoWiFi and VoLTE are listed as provisioned.
[NG]Owner

Can somebody also confirm band 71 compatibility? I'm looking to get a Sprint V40 but I'm not sure if cross flashing will enable band 71. Also can somebody confirm if services such as VoLTE, HD Voice, and Wi-Fi calling will work on a cross flashed device? Also how exactly do you force gsm bands if it gives you a checklist? Do you just remove all the bands but one? Also will crossflashing to unlocked make OTA stop working? If so, why does it not work?

So I have to amend my previous post:
I can confirm the following:
Using the Hidden Service Menu from this post, and several apps out of the Play store, my phone sees T-Mobile bands 2, 4, 12 and 71 towers. And I have successfully been connected to a Band 71 tower.
Oddly enough, LTE Discovery still reports the connection as a different band. So I'm going with the Hidden Service Menu as definitive.

After you cross flashed, do services like VoLTE, HD Voice, and Wi-Fi calling still work?

Also how were you able to open that hidden menu. I entered in the code and nothing happens.

Not sure what you mean by still. I was on Sprint. Received Sprint v40. Immediately crossflashed to US version. Used phone on Sprint. Migrated to T-Mobile. VoLTE, HD Voice, and Wi-Fi calling work. That was the sequence. I have no idea if Sprint has those features or if they work on Sprint. But on T-Mobile with a cross flashed to US version v40, those services work just fine for me.
Now if you are thinking of crossflashing a T-Mobile v40, stop right now. You'll brick it. There is nothing you can do to a TMo v40.

I assume you are also entering it into the phone dialer. I type in the code, and the hidden service menu appears. If it's not working for you, I don't know why not.

I was referring to a sprint model phone but was nice to know everything works. Just have to wait and see if OTA updates work.

Using on Other Carriers(GSM)

I am a n00b in the subject of unlocking phones to use on other networks etc.
Is there a possibility when the SPL is unlocked that we could use this on any GSM network since it is a 'world' capable phone with the GSM radio and a SIM card?
I have used a lot of WINMO phone son VZW and I flash and unlock quite often. Just had no idea how this process worked. sorry if this is a duplicate of any kind
thank you
You can call Verizon and ask them for the unlock code to your phone. The number is 1-800-711-8300, option 2 I believe. Either way you'll end up talking to a human who can do that for you. Then you'll enter the code (code A) in All Settings > Personal > Security. According to others, this unlock on the SIM will remain, even after flashing with a custom ROM.
no software to unlock the sim card, i don't want to call vz
I can buy unlock code for Imagio.
Why dont you want to call verizon? They are perfectly happy to unlock the sim for you as long as you dont have any problems with your account like delinquent payments. I called and had both of my phones unlocked in minutes and tested my ATT sim card, worked great on the aTT network
GSM 3G on america?

Did you see if you had E or 3G or H?
I've looked at the specs but haven't found the GSM 3G bands that it has.
Just this:
Digital Dual (CDMA,PCS) /1X, EVDO /Rev.A <---- perfectly clear
GSM Quad Band (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) <---- perfectly clear
WCDMA / HSDPA / HSUPA <---- not clear if it has 850mhz here
I guess it doesn't have 3G in 850mhz but I still have hopes.
Regards!
I only get "E" - my SIM is 3G capable, but the corporate plan is text-only. In other words, I can't say for certain if it will get 3G speeds. HSDPA is available here in the US, so it should be possible for an Imagio to have 3G in the States.
I called yesterday, told them I would be going overseas, they gave me the unlock code. Simple as pie. I can use my neighbor's AT&T sim card without any issues minus stuff that is Verizon specific.
The SIM unlock was easy and successful. Just call Verizon at the above number and its a done deal in 30 seconds. Will try my wife's SIM in it later.....woohoo....
because i dont have vz wireless phone number, but i need to use the t-moible or at&t, i call them, but they need me vz wireless phone number... i dont have, they not unlock for me
as i was told u are able to get it unlocked verizon will do it if ur account is 3months old and in good standing... also as far as using it on gsm not sure as of yet but will say tmobile basic signal i E in an area where out of ur basic ntwork jumpin off of another tower it will put u on H or even G but there is no 3G

H is HSDPA, which is 3.5G (faster than 3G... 7.2mbps compared to 1.5 mbps or something like that)
Edge is like 0.3 mbps and GPRS like 0.1
not really sure, but you get the idea.
Here in Mexico we have HSDPA but never get above 2mbps, at nights we do peak at 3mbps but avarage is still at much 2mbps.
Did I do something wrong?
I told them I was going over seas, I gave them my sim number and they said I was all set to go over there. Does this mean my phone is unlocked, I didn't have to put in any numbers. I will hate myself if I said the wrong thing. And if I did it right then how do I switch between sim cards and cdma?
For you phone to be unlocked they would have to give you a number to enter.
To switch between sim and cdma, go to settings -> phone -> network and change it from global mode to GSM

Not true, works fine with t mobile and at&t, didn't enter any numbers did it all from their, weird, but whatever.
I think a few things from the last three posts need clarification:
1. When you call VZW Global Support, they should have given a security code to unlock the SIM. It is a string of numbers. It is not a phone number.
2. Once the SIM is unlocked, if a SIM is present in the phone, there is no guarantee that switching back from GSM/UMTS to Global will switch the phone back to CDMA. There have been times where I've done that, and the phone has stayed on AT&T (my employer uses AT&T). I think a better method is to use either CDMA or GSM/UMTS, and to avoid the Global setting completely.

On item number 1 I would agree with you ignore my experience because even my friend who unlocks all kinds of phones for metro says it is a weird case. I have never received any unlcock cod yet it says "sim security unlocked" probably will be screwed up if I ever want to flash or reset it but whatever.
On number 2 I can't agree with you because I bought an at&t go card just for sh**ts and giggles and I have no problems, infact I can switch between the two while the phone is on, done many tests. But if anyone else experiences this issue I would like to know.
I have never heard an unlock like that. But could be... like an 'on air update'... Most times is a code or the frown upon methods (connect it to a PC or a box).
If any one wants to know, no it does not have GSM 3G for 850mhz band, not 3G with ATT and others in the world that uses that band. Tested it myself.

Even if you run at&t 3g it is much slower than verizon's. Either that or safari renders slower than s**t on brother's Icrap 3g. T mobile's is faster if you can find their 3g coverage, good luck.
PS I am still looking for internet connection settings for tmobile as I sold an unlocked imagio to my buddy and he can't get the data connection working.
does anyone ever solve de 3G problem with the 850 MHZ band... I live in Venezuela use movistar i ve the imagio sim unlocked can´t get 3G due to band restriction

Is it possible to change radio/baseband to different variant, eg. from APAC to US?

TLDR:
Bought a new phone in NZ but I live in US, it lacks all 3g and LTE bands for T-Mobile
Tried flashing stock firmware to overwrite with US variant radio; didn't work, still Asia Pacific (APAC) radio
Is is possible to "change the variant" from XT1805 to XT1806 to get US radio? Or otherwise install US radio version?
If not, does anyone have experience unlocking additional bands with QPST/QXDM on this model?
Finally, can anyone confirm if any custom ROMs contain a radio/modem worth trying?
The details:
While traveling my Nexus 5x bootlooped, so I bought a Moto G5S Plus (XT1805, dual-SIM, 3/32 edition, software repo is retapac) in New Zealand, naively thinking that it would work in the US since it's also sold in the US. Got back from my trip and the phone cannot connect to anything better than 2g (EDGE) (but oddly on layover in San Francisco LTE worked). I'm a T-Mobile customer and found that this phone lacks the key T-Mobile bands UMTS1700/2100 (band 4) for 3g and LTE1900 (Band 2) LTE1700/2100 (Band 4) LTE700 (Band 12) LTE1700/2100 (Band 66) for LTE. Now I'm pretty sure the hardware support is there, I just need to switch the radio to the US variant (XT1806). Of course I can't return the phone now, and Motorola reps were worthless (level one rep insisted no US phones work overseas at all!)
What I've tried:
I unlocked the bootloader and reflashed the latest (SANDERS_NPS26.116-61_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip) stock firmware from the firmware center. Upon rebooting, even though the firmware notes indicated a US version, it must somehow see that the phone is XT1805 and flashing the modem and baseband still resulted in APAC radio bands and no LTE signal. I tried also flashing the SANDERS_NPSS26.116-45-5_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC version, which worked except the gpt.bin file didn't install since it's an older version of what was already on the phone (validation failed due to not allowing a downgrade). After reboot and setup, I'm still on retapac with no LTE service. None of the firmware versions indicate a specific region, and this long thread leads me to believe the firmware is for all variants, so somehow it recognizes the variant on install.
Other Options
I know it's possible to also root with TWRP and Magisk and then install a custom kernel/ROM and use some special tools (QPST and QXDM) to modify the NVram to unlock additional radio frequency bands via this thread. I'm willing to try this, but I know it's risky and not fully documented for Moto phones (guide is for Sony). In the end, I don't really care about keeping the APAC bands - I'd be happy to just switch the radio bands to the US version.
I've read over 100 web pages and forum threads in the last few days researching this and looking for solutions. I'd much rather find a way to install the US version of the radio/modem and baseband, but if that's impossible, I'd be happy for anyone to share experience with unlocking bands on this phone. Finally, if these are not good options, can anybody confirm a custom ROM for this phone that includes a radio/modem so it doesn't use the existing stock radio/modem?
Thanks and sorry for the long post, just wanted to provide as much information as possible. Thanks!

Did ya try this
Dial *#*#4636#*#* to get to field service menu
Hit menu - upper right - then select band, I think, you'll see it - first option
Select usa - I think that was it - you'll see what I mean
But, I can't remember of hand what bands are supported by this device. Google will remember though, ask him!
Here's a link to specs for all versions of the g5s plus... https://m.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g5s_plus-8699.php#xt1805
*You could always switch to the greatest US carrier ever: Sprint!
I think Sprint uses bands 25, 26, & 41 for lte(per this link: https://www.phonearena.com/news/Che...on-T-Mobile-and-Sprint-use-in-the-USA_id77933) & the xt1805 supports bands 26 & 41.
Yes, I am joking - but I thought I'd throw that out there as a possible last resort
Great question about the qpst tool to switch bands. I was wondering that myself as well. Last time I checked based on our chipset(msm8953) I didn't find too much...but I didn't look too hard TBH. I would search other device forums that share our chipset for that info...maybe you'll get lucky.

Yes, this was one of the things I tried. That code takes me to the 'testing' menu., where the first option is 'Phone information'. Entering that menu shows my IMEI, phone number, signal strength and a bunch of other options. My preferred network type is LTE/UMTS auto (PRL). In the menu in the upper right (the three dots), the first option is Select Radio Band. However, choosing this only shows one option, 'United States'. Selecting this does not change anything.
Thanks for recommending this though - I forgot to mention it as one of the things I tried.

That's strange as I've a lot of options there on Indian variant.
follow-up on modifying LTE bands
Just following up on this. After trying several ROMs (Pixel Experience, CosmicOS) I was unable to enter diagnostic mode to modify the bands, so I re-flashed stock. With stock I was able to get into diagnostic mode and tried modifying bands.
Using Windows 10, I had difficulty getting the Service Programming tool of QPST to work, and the NV viewer is deprecated in newer versions of QPST. I couldn't get a licensed version of QXDM, so I tried EFS Professional and CDMA workshop. The NVRAM value for item 1877 made no sense as the decimal was much larger than any other places I've seen and seemed to only represent three bands in binary. I decided to only try modifying NV item 6828 and 6829, since those control LTE anyway. The stock value matched the advertised bands for the phone - bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 18, 19, 20, 26, 28, 38, 40, and 41 (decimal is 1786875085013, byte-swapped hex is D5 00 0E 0A A0 01). I added bands 2, 4, 12, and 66 (T-Mobile bands in the US) which resulted in a byte-swapped hex value of DF 08 0E 0A A0 01 00 00 02 (decimal 36893489934294190303).
The good news: despite not using a custom kernel, the values stuck on reboot.
The bad news: even with the new values sticking, I did not get LTE service. So either the xt1805 is actually missing the hardware for those bands, or something else needs to also be modified which is currently undocumented.
At this point I'm going to give up. If anybody has a use for an asia-pacific version Moto G5s plus with an unlocked bootloader, please contact me as mine is now a glorified paperweight!

Thanks!

Hi! I have the similar task with my xt1804, which lacks one of European lte band b7 (available in xt1805). Is there any possibility to unlock it for my phone? Please, share your experience.

Mi 9 cant activate with LTE on AT&T network?

So I got a Chinese edition phone with band 2, 4, 5, 12, and 17 to fully support both TMobile and ATT network. The Global edition was missing band 17 for ATT so I didnt want to go that route. Been going back and forth with ATT a bit for the past few days since my device came in. The phone shows up and an "unknown device" on their network when we tried adding the IEMI. It will get UMTS (2g) and HSPA+ (3Gish/4G), but will not connect to any LTE or GSM. The phone supports GSM fine, so its strange that it wont do normal cellular connection over that, it will only do cellular over UMTS. The device wont detect as an LTE device and so the sim wont activate LTE on it.
Anyone else with ATT have this issue? And were you able to resolve it somehow?
Or those with TMobile in the US, are you able to activate the phone fine and get full coverage and LTE working?
I messed around with the connection settings in the *#*#4636#*#* menu. Only the "LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS" and "LTE/TD-SCDMA/WCDMA" will work properly at all. Both options give me UMTS for cellular, and HSPA+ for data. Of the 4 APNs that ATT uses, only the "ATT Phone" will work at all. The standard LTE APN "NXTGENPHONE" will leave the phone with no data or cellular service. This is related to the phone not being detected as an LTE device and the SIM not activating as such.
I simply put my AT&T sim in my China version and it worked straightaway. I didn't have to do anything else.
I am on Cricket, which leases service from AT&T, so I should know if it works once it comes Tuesday.
Just for perspective, I got a EU version of the Mi 9. Popped in a T-Mobile sim and it worked out of the box. Try the other sim slot. Could be your sim card if not.
Try these codes in Dialer. See if that helps anything.
VoLTE *#*#86583#*#*
VoWIFI *#*#869434#*#*
I was just making an ATT account so no previous activations or sims. So that could be the issue. I will try activating a sim with an old phone and then move the sim over. Or since it is the same hardware as a Galaxy S10, ill see if I can find a store that will activate a sim with a floor model S10 and then let me swap the sim into my Mi 9
Straight talk (ATT sim) lte without issue. no programming necessary , I have the global model though

Where did you guys buy the China version from?
US mobile white SIM from starter kit (T-Mobile) works well with LTE on Chinese model of Mi 9. Black one (Verizon) technically works, registers in the network and enables data, but Verizon refuses the IMEI as non-certified brand of the phone. Trick with activation on the iphone first and switching to xiaomi did not work, service gets cut off, when trying to make a call, it keeps dropping. AT&T based: Cricket and Straight Talk work just fine too.

Thanks for the info.
I was wondering about Verizon, since it support some CDMA bands and support 2 out of 3 of the LTE bands they use (doesnt support B13). Unfortunately I never tried it myself since half the coverage near me uses the band this phone doesnt support on Verizon.
I went and got my ATT account updated to an old Nexus 6 IMEI number and it got LTE on the N6. I then took the sim and put it in my Mi 9 and now the Mi 9 has LTE. So for anyone just getting this phone, you must have an IMEI on your account that is recognized as an LTE phone. If you try to add the IMEI of the Mi9 it is not recognized by ATT and wont provision LTE.
IMEI spoofing does not work with Verizon, as they simply ban the device. They call it “non certified”. Bands are seem ok.

I been purchasing from liaow. Never ran across a issue with them
I've been having the same issue, with a recently-bought (last week arrived) Mi 9 Global on AT&T postpaid. LTE showed up and worked fine day one, now network speeds are dropped down to 3.5G speeds. Anyone else have success with getting LTE on a fresh SIM?

Can i get T-mobile bands working on Verizon Note 5?

Does anyone know if other carrier bands can be unlocked via any method on a Verizon phone which is already "unlocked"?
The phone doesn't support T-mobiles main band, band 12, supposedly that is the reason why im not getting many calls or even notifications during busy times (10 voicemails with no notifications).
Can I flash the phone with unlocked T-Mobile firmware?
Even hardware unlocking would be doable if anyone knows about that(ie, replacing the motherboard, modem, etc).

Does the Oppo Find X5 Pro 5G Chinese Version (Model No: PFEM10) actually work in the USA on GSM networks (T-Mobile / AT&T)?

I've heard conflicting things regarding band support on this device.
These are the bands supported by the PFEM10 model, with the bold ones used by T-Mobile in specific for their 4G LTE connectivity:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 26, 28, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 66 - China
The only band missing is band 71, but otherwise the device has 5/6 4G bands needed for connectivity. The reason I'm asking is because I have a friend who imported the device from Hong Kong to the USA and he says when he plugs in his T-Mobile SIM to the device, he can't get 4G connectivity or any connectivity whatsoever. WiFi works fine, but no mobile data. We already called to try to activate the phone and was told by T-Mobile support "this device is not compatible with our network", even though the phone is factory unlocked and GSM-based.
Am I missing something here, or is there more to the picture than just band support?

Try entering the IME numbers in T-mobiles web site(bring your own device page). When I was researching this(I'm on T-Mobile) some were incompatible. I have the global version and have 4g connectivity but no 5G. HD voice also works even though the indicator does not show on the status bar(it shows in the dialer screen.
BTW..forget about AT&T. They wont support the phone AT ALL! I left them because my Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra worked fine on 5g until the 3g shutdown. They basically told me tough nuts so I left for T-Mobile.

Thanks for the reply man, I feel like we're the only ones here lol. I found an app on the Play store that allows you to take the first few numbers of a dummy IMEI and it fills in the rest of the numbers. I copy and pasted some variants of my Chinese IMEI version, and none of them works with t-mobile. I found a dummy IMEI number for the international version of this phone and made a few variants, plug them all into T-Mobile and they all say compatible, so looks good. So I'm pretty convinced that the international version will have 4G connectivity from your reports and a few other sources. I'm actually on MetroPCS but I know they use T-Mobile's infrastructure so I would assume it would be the same thing.
Another interesting thing is on Mint Mobile's IMEI compatibility checker, it gives some good detail... I typed in the Chinese IMEI and it said the phone did not support VoLTE, but I type in the IMEI number for international version and it says that it DOES support VoLTE. So my conclusion at this point is that the Chinese PFEM10 Oppo Find X5 Pro DOES support VoLTE but not specifically T-Mobile/MetroPCS's USA-based carrier implementation of VoLTE so it won't work despite the device having the compatible bands? Does that sound logical?
So do you have the options for things like volte and Wi-Fi calling under your sim settings on the global version?

Yeah,I thought more people would chime in on this lol don't see the normal options for either but when I'm on a call, HD lights up and my calls are crystal clear.
I have now owned the PFEM10 in USA on T-Mobile for about a week and my unit connected to my service almost instantly after I moved my SIM over from my IN2025(Oneplus 8 Pro). Everything works fine but no 5G indicator on status bar. I have confirmed using the app "Network Cell Info Lite" that it does connect to the n41 band however and still can get over 100 Mbps download speeds. HD calling works too.
Also, something odd but hasn't really caused an issue. On my old phone, when going into Mobile Network settings, you would find a "Preferred network type" option allowing you to limit the phone connection to 5G/4G/3G etc. but on this phone you do not get that, or many settings for cell data at all, at least in my experience on the T-Mobile network.
I just received a new PFEM10 and after inseted my italian SIM the roaming is with AT&T 5G and hd voice (see attached)
They messaged me that I can use sms and data but no phone call.
I don't know if is because the phone is not registered with them or something else. Also msg. work on T-Mobile.
