HSTool for upgrading firmware of BL locked Huawei Mate 20 Pro - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

*** SOFT BRICK RISK! Some people reported having soft bricked their devices by installing Android 10 update package. Huawei eRecovery will not work then in case that Huawei in your region did not yet publish Android 10 packages. It will try to recover to Android 9 instead, which the device will reject to do ***
For updating firmware of BL (bootloader) locked Mate 20 Pro an experimental method is available using HiSuite to latest firmwares. Windows only, no Mac.
Purpose of this is to bring the device up-to-date even when OTA upgrade is not available at a given time for a given region/carrier.
*** CAUTION: may break SafetyNet check, i.e. disable Google Pay, if firmware higher than intended for a given region is flashed ***
Hope it helps you.
Note that if your BL is unlocked, this method will lock it. Unlocking it again is possible, however full-wipe will occur.
Usage: unzip HSTool, run as standard user and follow prompts. No need to run HSTool under elevated Windows privileges, just the "hosts" file editing needs privileged access to the filesystem.
Successfully tested SafetyNet check passing firmware list (no longer maintained):
(All variants) 9.0.0.206 (Changelog) Note: February 2019 Security patch, Camera 9.0.0.305
(All variants) 9.0.0.210 (Changelog) Note: March 2019 Security patch, Camera 9.0.0.305
Cust partition (region) will stay original based on device oeminfo. C432 wil stay C432 after upgrade and so forth. Also in case you previously used a different method which "soft rebranded" your device, e.g. from Europe C432 to Asia/Pacific C636, this method will fix it.
Test results (no longer maintained):
2019/03/01: Own test: 9.0.0.206 - ctsProfile pass C432 Vodafone EU, camera 9.0.0.305 (likely designed for Europe, assumed because of working GPay on C432)
2019/03/12: Own test: 9.0.0.211, 213 - ctsProfile mismatch C432 Vodafone EU, camera 9.0.0.305
2019/03/13: Own test: 9.0.0.222, 225 - ctsProfile mismatch C432 Vodafone EU, camera 9.0.0.305
2019/03/19: Own test: 9.0.0.178 - ctsProfile mismatch C432 Vodafone EU, camera 9.0.0.309 (likely a Huawei experiment/beta image)
2019/03/27: Reported by dajumper: 9.0.0.228 - ctsProfile not reported, camera 9.0.0.312 (likely designed for Japan, assumed because of Japanese changelog, incl. Japanese KDDI VoLTE support added)
2019/03/27: Own test + reported by KedrosNg: 9.0.0.232 - ctsProfile mismatch C432 Vodafone EU, camera 9.0.0.305
2019/04/04: Own test: 9.0.0.235, ctsProfile pass status unknown (tested on rooted device), camera 9.0.0.312
2019/04/06: Reported by Merewood bebox: 9.0.0.210 - ctsProfile pass C432, camera 9.0.0.305

I tried to use your tool but I get the message that Assistant aborted by user (code=1).
1. Windows 10 x64.
2. Antivirus software disabled.
3. Ran tool with elevated administrator privileges.
4. All 2 prerequisites are installed.
5. Relaunched the tool over 30 times.
6. Getting the same error on a Windows 7 workstation.
Is there anything you can suggest I do please?

In general downgrade is not recommended and may cause problems. Not because of the method. Because manufacturers don't want downgrades (see e.g. Apple, Huawei seems going similar direction).
As to OTA, I am very confident that one day you normally receive OTA with this method. But the question is rather when? Aren't you here just because you didn't receive it from manufacturer? If it was so great with factory OTAs, tools like this wouldn't need to exist.

Its entirely up to Huawei but if new firmwares don't get released in this format then it's highly unlikely they'll be available via OTA.

Does Unlocking Bootloader disable OTA updates?

I've gone through the process of entering my IMEI and serial number in the EMUI bootlocker website and its given me a code.
I haven't yet done any further steps including the adb commands required to remove the blootlock.
However I can now see on the MT Huawei Firmware update list that there is a new update (128) and I'm on (120b)
I've tried using the VPN option to force the update to obtain the firmware from its own servers to no avail.
The firmware checker simply states the firmware isn't compatible with device.
..has somehow simply registering caused it to be blocked for future updates?
##Secondly##.. Does continuing the process and using abd unblock commands cause it to no longer work with OTA?
Or is it only when and if you root it - that OTA can not work? (or does it work)
Quite confused and would really appreciate any advice as ideally I would like to keep OTA, but have root at sometimes with the hope that I could disable root anytime a OTA updates comes available and then re-enable after.
Any advice greatly appreciated )

It is NOT related with unlocked bootloader or rooted firmware.
It's related with emui 8.1 version whitch is NOT supported by FirmwareFinder.
So basically VPN or Proxy wont work with that.
Another thing: the firmwares listed on FF aren't approved at appearance date. This means that we must wait a bit for approval, and after that can FF download the selected firmware (again, emui 8.1 is not supported).
If you are in hurry with flashing the new firmwares, you can via TWRP (methods described on forum).
BUT be aware, that even with that you can brick your phone
(trust me: after 2 days, when i brought my phone, it was hardbricked... i haven't other choice but RMA, and obviously they have changed the phone. SO be very careful.)

Have you used this before? On the P20 Pro?
Only reason i ask is the P20 Pro is not listed on the supported devices and as i said you would need to have the correct firmware for your device, the newer firmwares are made for the European version of the device L29 not L09, so providing you're on L29 and it's the correct firmware then it should work, but i would not like to be the person to crash test this.
I'm on the L09 which doesn't take L29 firmwares unless i debrand and then try it.
I have CLT-L29C432B128. (I have updated with hurupdater since the 128 fw is not yet approved from firmware finder)
I thinking on try flashing cn firmware.

Thanks for the advice!
So the list if updates that firmware finder shows are upcoming updates - rather than being released for offical OTA distrubtion from the date listed?
If firmware finder gets it first I'm wondering if you know generally when the OTA updates start to be pushed out via the OTA update system?
I don't know.
Generally about 2-3 weeks (maybe less).

Cannot Rollback to EMUI 3.1 inorder to root and unlock bootloader

Hi all,
I have a huawei P8 Lite ALE21-C02-896
Is there perhaps a way to install TWRP on a phone with a locked blocked bootloader??
Also would it be possible to update an ALE21-C02 phone with ALE-C432 firmware using the volume button and power combination??
I have tried this but it goes till 4% and displays update failed, what do I do??:crying:
I'm having the same issue here. But does the method actually work?

I have managed to unlock the bootloader by getting the bootloader unlock code with DC unlocker for 4EURO.
I first tried your way by trying to downgrade to emui 3 but got bootloop and this has been resolved by update.app of the original version(which i had trouble searching for)
If the downgrade method doesnt work for your version i.e. other than C432 i suggest just unlock it with DC it really works.
I've downgraded yesterday and it works like charm. You must follow the procedure, first install rollback package, then B170.
Both packages are hard to find (Huawei has removed all links from their pages), so you have to google it.
ROLLBACK package is named
HUAWEI_P8 Lite_Rollback transition Package_ALE-L21_From Android 6.0 EMUI 4.0 to Android 5.0 EMUI 3.1_C900B500.zip
and Android package
ALE-L21C432B170.....
(for unbranded european version, for other versions it's different one)
Here you can get all firmware's that you need:
https://huaweidl.com/download/p8-lite/ale-l21/
And here you have my GDrive link to the rollback package:

At last i sucessfully rooted with the following Kingroot apk:

My phone was MEO branded and i found no problems downgrading.
First i used the rollback rom, then i got the balong rom bug, after that i flashed B133 rom and still had the balong bug, inside was 2 update.app files, one (bigger) i flashed first, and the second (inside CUSTOM folder) i flashed in the end through the phone updater (local update in settings) and it solved the balong bug.
However my phone is the Single Sim version.
You can try this if your phone is single sim.
If not use the b170 rom for dual sim variant.

damn it this is crazy.. i bought the "dual sim" phone to run lineage...which is vodafone... which is single sim.. dafuq?!
also.. which can not be unlocked for free like on every other manufacturer... i hate huawei for now...

were you on the latest firmware available? if so, when did you do the downgrade, if you can reconstruct that?
bought the DC Unlocker code now.. man that was painless.. 4€ totally worth it!
so to C02 (Vodafone) users.. dont bother trying.. you just waste time and SSD space
all of the X Versions out there dont work
btw.. xiaomi ftw in this regard. unlocking is done by official xiaomi software, painless except for 3days waiting for the code. but no proprietary drivers you would need whatsoever on every host/VM config.. samsung always just crashes the server lol, let's see how this one does.. just bought it because the seperate sim slots.

Well I'm glad that at least you have unlocked your bootloader, I'll post a tutorial with all the steps I've made in order to see if someone can use it and avoid paying 4€ to DC unlocker code.
If it doesn't work, well, that is the last option.

don't worry, your explanations already are good. and the rest is pretty clear how to do in once you try.. just put it on an SD and hope for the best
but i think there is no other option, at least for my phone. i tried around 30 different roms, and only the vodafone stock ones werre accepted so i could get back to b589 max, which wasnt enough.
but now that it works, it works pretty flawless.. it is not a new phone but well enough for a secondary daily driver

Rebrand & Magisk.....

I have a C782 P20 Pro, now bootloader unlocked via ToolAllInOne and now I need help.
I'm stuck.
Recently, I updated to .282 firmware via the DNS method. I want to get off C782 onto C432 and this is where i'm having issues.
I purchased credits for FH and have now realised I need to be on Oreo!! I can't roll back to Oreo via Hi Suite, it doesn't give me the option since .282.
Root seems straight forward via TWRP but then i've seen posts of phones being bricked on TWRP. Bricking it would be a nightmare.
I need help getting Magisk on firstly. The guides I have read on here are from 2018, links don't work and i'm not sure the instructions still apply to Pie.
After that i'll see if I can work out how to rebrand.

For Rooting with Magisk on Pie I followed the guide posted by smohanv https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...awei-p20-pro-charlotte-l29c432b131-8-t3809964
The only difference is I had to get the latest RECOVERY_RAMDIS_9.0_282.img using the below method
1. Download the matching firmware for your device using Firmware finder https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teammt.gmanrainy.huaweifirmwarefinder&hl=en_GB
2. Unzip the downloaded update_full_base.zip then extract recovery_ramdisk.img from the Update.app using https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho....php?t=2433454
copy this img to your device
You don't need twrp. There's a guide on here with an automated flash.bat script to revert back to Oreo. I did exactly what you're trying to do. Took me ages to find the best way, can't remember the exact post BUT if you search the forum for a post with "numpty" in the title, that's from me and links to it and explains the whole process [emoji16]

So I do need to install Twrp then?
Is there a chance of bricking the phone rebranding the Oreo way?
@chrissyyyw
There is no zero risk to make this kind of modification on a device.
Using the script ensures no errors in commands and it's all relative to the previous step so if you miss a step it won't complete. Phone is as it was. And no. I had my bootloader unlocked nothing else. The script installs twrp, debrand, restarts and then flashes the Oreo firmware for you

I've found the thread about the script @blufreak.
Seems straight forward enough, just one question about downloading the Oreo firmware and extracting the 3 files.
Do you download C782 to get you back onto Oreo and then use the FH tool to rebrand onto C432?
Yes. C432 won't install u till you have rebranded. Download C782. Extract. Run.
Run fh rebrand and use that to install C432. Start with a version of Oreo as close to the C782 version as you can, must be equal to or higher but not lower.

Cool, I'll give it a go tomorrow.
With the software, in the guide it says you must dowload the one with the 3 files.
Does it matter which one FH downloads? Or is it just the equal too or greater than version number?
So for Oreo C782 I think I went for 159 but could be wrong. Easiest way to make sure is run hi suite, connect phone and click update then when it says you're up to date select other version and it will list a specific Oreo version. Then download that one from something like androidhost.ru and check the zips for the correct number of files and names. That was the most confusing part for me
Once I debranded I then installed the identical version of C432 via fh as per rebrand instructions..... Once handset started the update barrage started

Since installing. 282 via the DNS method my Huawei Suite doesn't give me the option to install another version at all.
It did when I was on. 168
Possibly as it's not an official release. Well, go for 159, it's a moderately up to date Oreo, and I remembered I found you had to do one earlier than the 160s for a reason to do with some of the files..... Don't ask me to be more specific lol. It doesn't matter really. As long as you do an Oreo below 160 you'll get updates straight away anyway. Just don't allow it to start updating when you boot into Oreo C782 obviously

That makes sense as I'm not sure Huawei have officially released it, even now.
2 questions before I get stuck into this tomorrow. ADB with charge mode, how do you enable that?
I have found CLT-L09C782B159 (8.0.0.159) on firmware finder on my laptop. Change log says it's the version to roll back.
I have been on the app on my phone, found the same FW version but only got the CLT and update.zip files, not the public?
The only version I can find with the 3 files you mentioned does not mention the rollback in the changelog?
Is this ok to go with @blufreak ?
Thanks
Download the files from androidhost.ru and it should be right. And Adb charge mode is under developer options (tap 7 times on build to reveal them)

The Oreo .159 version I can find with L09, Public and Full files is the October update.
The roll back version does not contain the 3 files.
https://pro-teammt.ru/online-firmware-database-ru/?firmware_model=clt-l09c782&firmware_page=0
28/10/16 I have downloaded.
Is it ok to use the normal version?
I can't get into Fastmode, the phone keeps ignoring me pressing power and volume down and booting to the 'your device cannot be trusted' screen.

Hi! I don't know which version it's fine for your device and the only way to know it it's to flash it yourself, but i don't recommend you to do that.
Rooting with Magisk is fine on 9.1, just read the latest posts from this thread - > https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/guide-magisk-root-mate-10-pro-t3886967/page27
As for the roll-back, ut should be possible to do it with this tool and an appropriate roll-back firmware (again, firmware version might depend on your cust/brand).
I recommend you to keep an eye and also read this thread - > https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/firmware-version-mate-10-t3722019

B303 is not for A09, it's for C800 which is some jp cust.
Most new fw links are not up yet, and since Huawei decided to name all their firmware the same regardless of model its hard to know which is which :/
Success! Updated BLA-L29C432. Thank you!

Great! Soon i will upload a new version that will also flash the patched Magisk ramdisk_recovery and Magisk Manager (this one will be optional, so those who already have it, can skip it).
It worked for me also.
Why is root needed? Unlocked bootloader is not enough?

Nope! Well, it can be done without root too, but it would require twrp in that case.

as stated before, since every update is named the same it's hard to tell which is L09, L29, A09 or AL/TL. AL/TL are easier as VERSION.mbn in UPDATE.zip doesn't have Global strings in it.
From what it seems, if you flash L09 on L29 or vice versa you get endless OTA updates for preload and cust. I don't know if just flashing the cust and preload zips fixes it, but you're free to try if you want.
Here's L09 preload and cust:
Preload: http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...full/update_full_preload_BLA-L09_hw_eu_R1.zip
Cust: http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...4//f1/full/update_full_cust_BLA-L09_hw_eu.zip
modified tool to include preload and cust:
https://mega.nz/#!oDR2DYCI!SRQlTq1IriGcEt1Wr--ggrBk7uZ4M_R8OwE6DdvmEEc
Extract and put in the EMUI 9.0 to 9.1 update folder.
Rename cust zip to update_cust.zip and preload to update_preload.zip, put in ZIPS-HERE folder, run modified bat.
Thank you very much, I try very soon. Have any of you done that already?

I did on L29 with L29 preload and cust, no problems.
Base (280955) seem to be the same for both L09 and L29 C432.

Soon i will upload a new tool that will let you flash all the 3 files, so you could wait. Also, a fried of mine is testing on BLA-L09 C432.
Perfect, also because I don't have the Root permissions on the device, and I don't even have twrp. In fact now I have tried and says that it does not find root permissions. Then I did not understand if the phone should be connected from on, in recovery or fastboot?

Tool updated. However, if you don't have root, you can't use it, you must root first.
Okay, I thought it was a tool like the ones we made earlier to install EMUI 9. I'll wait until the new tool is released. : D

Can I change from LLD-AL10 to LLD-L31 on a Honor 9 Lite?

Hi All,
I'm new here so please let me know if I've posted incorrectly.
I have a second hand Honor 9 Lite that I would like to use here in the UK.
It has LLD-AL10 (Build 9.1.0.130) EMUI 9.1.0 Android 9.
I think the 'firmware' I need for European is LLD-L31.
Firstly is it possible to change these base operating systems from one country/region to another please?
Secondly if it's possible and can be done ... how do I do it please?
It's a given to me handset with not data to worry about, factory reset unlocked handset.
It looks very nice and I didn't want to give up on it because I can not get the play store and standard gmail apps.
Many thanks in advance.

Yes, it is. You need :
1. downgrade to Oreo via HiSuite (process will erase all your data!)
2. unlock bootloader on your phone (you must downgrade to lower build number with google security patch from 04.2018.)
3. download fullOTA-MF Oreo firmware for region C432 from Firmware Finder
4. rebrand your device to C432 using tool "HWOTA8_LLD"
https://forum.xda-developers.com/9-lite/help/rebrand-honor-9-lite-chinese-frimware-t3739762/page3
Or, after bootloader unlocking, root your phone and simly flash Open-GAPPS via TWRP. (a simpler solution, IMO).

Thank you so very much, I really want to use this so I am going to try your suggestion very soon.
I'm going to try hard to understand these individual steps, there is nothing on the phone to worry about so that's a start. Hopefully I can find a way following your kind suggestion.
Many thanks

I've completed the first part after connecting through HiSuite and downgrading to AL10 8.0.0.189(C00)
Does the process cost? i.e. do I need to buy credits in these stages please?
Next is unlocking the boot loader and the lower build number with that 04.2018 security patch somehow?
Many thanks

Next is downgrading to the lower build number, You need to buy credits . You can try two firmware only, LLD-AL10 8.0.0.100(C00) or LLD-AL10 8.0.0.171(C00).
8.0.0.171 contains Google patch from 05.2018, but it's worth a try...

Extract the archive contents and follow instructions in "ReleaseDoc" .
