Dex cable Note 8 Android Pie - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Has any one tried using Dex cable with Note 8 after Android Pie Update ?
Is it working or the Dex Station is required?

I'm using Dex and HP Lapdock on Pie

Just the cable itself.

You can use either the DeX Pad, DeX Station, or just a DeX cable. I have one from Choetech that works great.

Dex should function just fine on the Note 8 after the Pie update. However you may be prompted to update Dex before you can use it. As I was prompted to update the GearVR software when I used my N950N wtih my GearVR.

Dex mode without dex pad. Port note 9 dex.

Is there a way to port note 9 dex into note 8? That way you dont need a dexpad to trigger dex mode and any usb-c to hdmi cable will do.
until many note 9's are out in the market, that is a question with no answer...
There is a 3rd party aftermarket accessory that does that. I saw it on YouTube.
There are 3rd party docks.... but it would be nicer not to even need them like with note9.
Does triggering dex mode need some hardware? Or is it just software?
[Kernel Patch] Enable Dex desktop with any HDMI adapter
Kernel patch should do it..

Samsung Dex Software toggle

I would love it if some devs could get the samsung dex software toggle from the tab s4 and implement it into the s8.
Pie has software Dex enabled, it will work with any hdmi adapter. If you don't want Pie (I hate it myself), you can find Dex enabled adapters for as little as 25 bux on Amazon. I'd recommend these adapters, because they allow charging and cost the same as non-dex charging adapters. Here's a link to the one I use:

Dex Support and Questions

Does anyone here know if Samsung has an official forum or website for Dex related issues? My searches on Google have turned up dead ends.
Also, is there a thread here on XDA to discuss Dex related issues?
I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 9. I bought a Vava USB-C hub on Amazon that gives me HDMI out, an SD card slot, 3 USB type A ports, and a USB C port for charging. I have a Logitech Wireless Keyboard and wireless mouse connected via USB. I'm having some issues with Dex and I would like to know if they are being caused by my hub or are they general Dex related issues:
- All devices must be plugged into the hub prior to plugging it into the phone. Hotplugging devices causes the Dex desktop to lock-up.
- Mouse scrolling breaks everytime I minimize an app. It also breaks in one app when I switch to another app and then right back to the first app.
Is anyone with Samsung Offical Dex Pad having similar issues? Also, is anyone with another unofficial USB-C HDMI connector having similar issues?
Edit: When scrolling for the external mouse "breaks," scrolling while using the Note 9 as a trackpad still works.
There is no such line for the time being.
I use the cheap USB type C to HDMI output.
However, my tv screen only show minimum size (1.5x bigger than phone screen)
any setting I need to do on my phone?

Firstly if your Note 9 is connected to tv and in Dex mode, the tv should automatically, scale it correctly.
(I have found that some, older tv's it's a bit misaligned .)
Secondly, are you in Dex mode or
screen mirroring mode ?
See screenshots.

Note 9 + Original EE-HG950 Samsung USB-C HDMI adapter - No 1440p DEX :(

Hi all,
maybe you can help. I KNOW it worked for me before but now it does not.
Dell 27" Monitor. 1440p native. Works perfectly with the macbook pro.
Note 9 + the original Samsung EE-HG950 USB-C to HDMI adapter. The Note9 can do 1440p natively without a DexPad/Station.
Yet now Dex capped at 1080p. I know it did worked before. But now refuses.
I tried 3 different HDMI cables. and 3 different USB-C to HDMI/DisplayPort adapters as well.
No go. I am sure it worked for me before. Dex Resolution grays out the 1440p option.
What should i do?
Does samsung tries to enforce me to buy the Dex Cable now?
Note 9 Firmware:
PDA- N960FXXU2ARJ7
CSC- N960FOXM2ARJ1
Thanks Tal
Any updates on this?

Android P will support Dex mode for note 8. Samsung has confirmed. You can use Dex HDMI cable for Note 8 to use Dex mode like S9 or Note 9.
