So we dont have a notification light/LED/Indicator on this device huh?
Any substite?
I would like something that AUTOMATICALLY starts blinkling/showing ONLY when there are unread notifications.
Tried setting AOD like that, but it can not satisfy my requirements lol
Anyone?
Thanks!
Currently using Always on Edge, totally fits my needs. But a bit concerned aboit battery consumption lol

You can see it there that's from a text message. It actually looks like the normal text message icon at first then it turns into the star.
UPDATE: it was the lightflow led app. It has known issues with samsung s6 devices.

Thats what I thought at first as well but that interuption icon is usually on the right hand side of icons. I'm on 5.1.1 as well.
Have you tried this feature. Lights up the screen when you receive any notification.. You can set it to other colors..
#prettycool
I've been playing around with this myself, doesn't appear like there is any customization to this which I wish there was to extend the time it stays on screen. Also it doesn't seem to work if you use custom texting apps for example.
Yeah it would have been nice to customize the colors, duration (time and repeat), and which notifications. Really like it though. I've missed a flashing status light to get my attention.

He was able to change it to whatever color? Or it was just showing the different factory set colors?

There's a few of those apps, and this one worked best for me! I stopped using it (uninstalled) though, too much battery drain!

Go to notification settings on the custom texting app, importance, urgent. That should activate the blue frame. Worked for me on the Signal text app.
useless in the dark?
It almost makes up for the lack of Notification LED.
My only issue with this feature is that it only works when the AOD is on... so it is useless at night or in the dark.
I haven't figured out how to keep the AOD on while in the dark, I feel the phone vibrate but you have to press the power button a couple of times to wake up the V40. Anyone else having a similar issue? is there a setting?

Come to find out my issue is with the screen protector. It doesn't have a notch at the top, just holes for the cameras and speaker, and a clear spot for the sensor between the cameras... but that's not enough. So when there is not enough light, the sensor thinks it's in the pocket and the screen goes dark... and no knock to un-lock.

Yes, KnockON is enabled under "Extensions". I've found that knock or fingerprint don't work if the sensor in the front is covered. Only the power button.

Hey guys give this a try, I hate AOD and I'm disappointed this phone has no LED. But I traded this phone for my Mate 10 Pro so it's alright.

Using this with Textra. This is pretty cool!
Replying to messages(though notification) doesn't clear notification on my unlocked note 8 sm-950u1 after it updated from oreo to pie. Is there a way to turn this back so when I reply once it goes away. I like to keep my notifications clear. Plus this makes a whole extra step to clear it. The whole point of me relying the message(notification) is so I don't have to leave my app I'm in and clear my notification, but now I have to hit mark read which means i have to swipe down again or go into the app to clear it.
From my understanding that's just an android pie feature.

How can that be a feature when you still see notifications that are long gone?

How do you reply?
Open the app or click on the notification etc
In my case it doesn't matter if I open the app with a click on the app-icon or a click on the notification. The notification stays for some time (sometimes a few seconds, sometimes much longer). Pulling the notification bar down sometimes removes the unwanted notifications instantly.

I always reply by hitting the reply option on the notification so I don't have to leave whatever app I'm in, but if my reply is too long I'll go info the app. That's why I'm not a fan of having to swipe down a second time to hit mark read. Logically if if replied to it through the notification it should disappear, because it's the same as me replying by going into the messages app and replying.
That's exactly how it worked on Android 8...

Yeah so why did updating to pie change that. That's extremely infuriating to have the notification stay unless I swipe down a second time just to hit mark read because clearly if I replied to it I read it, but not according to pie.
I've got a CN version of this phone. I it updated the day after I received it so I think some of the notification issues mentioned before has been resolved... or at least I haven't experienced what some others have described yet.
at the moment I seem to be receiving the notifications as they arrive... but I still miss them because there is no easy way to know the notifications have arrived!!
The AOD / screen off clock is quite useless (at least in the CN ROM) it only shows the clock, missed call and SMS. Thats it. I'm trying notify buddy now, which kind of solves the problem. I say "kind of", because while it does allow me to have an LED notification, it deactivates the finger print sensor until you wake it. And also I seem to be getting large battery drain with it.
AOE doesn't work for me.
Is there anyway to get the screen off clock to show other notifications as well ?
Thanks for anyones help.

I got EU version and have exactly the same problem. ColorOS 6.1
I googled a lot trying to find a way to personalize AOD clock (like Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro) but I couldn't find anything.
I searched also for a method to make it show other notifications but there isn't nothing.
Maybebe someone else found something?
Unfortunately I think the situation won't change too much with Android 10.

Actually it will. Android 10/reame ui brings new AOD with notification and customizations.

I'm afraid he said nothing about app notifications on AOD. Although, there is a notification switch in Screen-Off Display settings, so maybe there is a chance
Its really annoying that they made a phone without useful AOD notifications AND without an LED for notifications.. having to turn on the screen to check for notifications is inconvenient and probably uses more battery.
really hope the next update sorts this out.
on a side note, notifybuddy does solve kinda solve this problem.. but its not an elegant solution.
major battery drain and the finger print sensor is blocked by the notifybuddy overlay..
I'm planning to buy the X2 pro and had the same question. Does the phone allow to see new app notification preview on screen off display (AOD)... and not just the app icon?
Currently I am using the mia1 and I am able to see new app notification flashes in Ambient mode... without waking the phone.
Thanks in advance.

The screen edge flashes for a couple of seconds when you recieve something, though you can't know which app it is if you have multiple notifications. No preview as far as I've noticed.

Thanks. Sad to know that even an app icon doesn't show up on a screen off display If they want to move closer to stock Android these are some of the features they should have. Oxygen atleast has paid heed to this concern by releasing beta versions for op7 and op7t.
Personalising the screen off clocks doesn't help me much. I'd rather do away with the clock and mantra and get the msg preview feature in.
Thanks

Ah no, that's not what I mean. You get the icon, but it doesn't show the message or blink the icon (so if you have multiple icons, you don't know which is the current notification).

Ok. Thanks.
Can i get a notification light to blink if i root this phone?
AFAIK the Pixel 7 doesn't have a notification LED. Most contemporary smartphones don't and haven't for the past 5+ years.
I can do it with an app from google play, called aodnotify. I was just wondering if i rooted the phone anyway, maybe i could get it without the app.

Although not a root app, I recommend dynamicspot. It has a free version, simulates Apples' Dynamic Island, and does not use up a lot of screen real estate.

that app has a completly different purpose then for example aodnitify.
For now, i'm sticking with aodnotify.
aodNotify could be great if the system wasn't killing its accessibility service all the time.
Any tips on this?
I'm only using it for turning off AoD if no notifications present.
And sometimes I can't wake the screen at all by just tapping. Only with the switch.
The FAQ even says to completely disable it in the accessibility options. But without that turned on the AoD switching doesn't work at all.
