I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime on which Android Auto has worked perfectly for around 6 months while it was running on MIUI 9. I recently got updated to MIUI 10 which has a few things I don't like on top of those things in MIUI in general that I don't like so I decided to wipe the phone and install a custom ROM to get away from MIUI.
I first installed Resurrection Remix but after setting everything up found that I was continually getting "Communication Error 7" messages and Android Auto would not load. I went through all the fixes I could find via Google but none of them helped - although these generally only consisted of 'try a new cable' and 'update Google Play services'. In the end I went back to my backup of MIUI 10 so I could use AA again. This weekend I decided to have another go this time using AEX and once again I get the same error - although I found that on first connection it works perfectly and then after unplugging and replugging I get the error. The only way to get it to work is to uninstall AA, plug my phone in and redownload AA and then it works perfectly again, but only for this one time and then it fails thereafter.
Given that AA works OK under MIUI I know the cable is good and I have checked the versions of AA and GP Services and they are matched on all installs so I'm at a loss as to why I can't get this to work on a non-MIUI install.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

Been having serious problems downloading or updating any apps/games from the Android Marketplace. You can load up marketplace, select an app or game, but when it starts to download you get the progress bar and then it either says
starting download - and gets no further
starts to download then "download pauses".
have tried now on two different wireless networks for internet access.
have tried re-installing Cyanogen Mod 6 (Stable) and tried RC3 release as well.
Driving me nuts.
Any ideas ??
I had to wipe and re-install the rom, and I *think* I installed an earlier version of the Google Apps and not the latest, I see there was a new release yesterday - http://mirror.kanged.net/gapps/gapps-mdpi-tiny-20100926-signed.zip
so will install those and see if makes any difference :-/
I read some articles from various other forums, apparently this appears to be a common problem amongst Android Users.
Some people are saying if you enable GoogleTalk it sorts out the problem, others are saying there is an issue if you changed from @googlemail.com to @gmail.com email address for your account.
I tried both these suggestions and made no difference. I tried installing the latest GoogleApps from the link I posted above, again did not fix the problem.
in the end I wipe/deleted cache from Recovery and installed a different Rom, (SuperFroyo v6.6.2) and this time it worked first time.
I am not sure if this made the difference or if the marketplace just suddently started to work again for me, but it lasted 2 days.
I just recently got my Android Phone, and although I love the Android OS over the iPhone OS, I am slowly starting to loose patience with the Marketplace App.
I have an issue with Android Auto refusing to start. I always get an error: "Something went wrong: Google services doesn't seem to be working at the moment" and the app closes.
Stock, locked, global ROM pie.
Any idea on how to get it working? Thank you!
Problem solved. You need to disable dual apps.
In my case it does not work at all... I connect the phone, start android auto (and it starts on the phonefine, no problems) but nothing happens on the car side. I don't have dual apps enabled. Tried with USB debugging on, but still nothing. Running latest MIUI 10.2.1.0. Anyone can help? With my previous umidigi phone it worked (most times). It's like neither can see the other connected...
After update to MIUI 12.5.1. (global ROM, official), all "remote" apps stopped working. Samsung remote for TV, Marantz AVR for home theater and Heos app for CD. Tried to reinstall and still doesn't work. It just can't recognize device on same wifi network. Worked fine on previous ROM, 12.0.3 I think it was.
Android auto, never worked. When i try to connect it with a car, nothing happens; phone asks to choose connection type and that's where story ends. All advices from web doesn't have effect (not using dual apps, tried to clear cash...)
Phone is still locked, stock condition when bought from operator.
Anyone have any idea how to solve this...?
Update: After auto update of MIUI Launcher and google security patch, all problems solved.
AA stil not working smooth
I have an Alpine iLX-W650 and a OnePlus 7 Pro. Android Auto has been working perfectly for well over 4 years now, even through OS upgrades (currently on Android 12).
Suddenly, about a week ago I got the "Device is not supported." message. A reboot of the phone while in the car fixed it.
Then it happened again the next day, nothing I do resolves it including a new or different cable. There was an Android update this morning and I also saw a new version of Android Auto. I did both of these hoping one would fix the issue. Nothing. Multiple reboots later, including telling Android Auto to forget me unit, still nothing.
I had my wife plug in her phone and the head unit works perfectly with Android Auto, so something with my phone changed or a setting is corrupted. I'm not sure how to get things working again.
As mentioned, I tried:
another cable (several now)
"Forgetting all cars" in the settings
Forgetting connected cars in the Head Unit.
Factory resetting the Head Unit.
Double-checking the Head Unit is the latest firmware (it is).
Deleting the AA app and clearing data and cache for it and then updating to the latest.
Deleting the AA app and clearing data and cache for it and then trying to connect to let it pull down AA.
As noted above, my wife's phone works no problem with my head unit and since thing my daughter tried her phone which works too. Clearly, something on my phone got corrupted or something to cause it to not work anymore.
Rule #1 - if a OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission let it be! Upgrades and updates can and do break devices.
Once you sort that mess out disable auto updates.
For anyone that might stumble on this, I considered that maybe my phone's data port was at fault and causing issues. Otherwise, my OnePlus 7 Pro works great and still charges. Not really ready to let it go.
Since I've always wanted AA to be wireless, I ordered the AAwireless device and it works flawlessly. In fact, it is more responsive than when my phone was cabled. Wish I had done this years ago.

A port pcb failure can cause data and phone service loss at least on Samsung's.
If it happens after a firmware upgrades/update it's not a hardware failure...
I'm on OneUI 4.1, Android 12, Kernel version 5.10.43 on a non cellular Tab S8. I noticed recently that my root cloaking modules weren't doing a great job, as I couldn't seem to get into a Dynasty Warriors app I'd downloaded, it simply wouldn't download the content in game. So I went and updated literally everything in my Fox app. I noticed immediately that Google Play Services was crashing repeatedly. So I uninstalled the module. This lead to my tablet saying Magisk is not installed. So I re-downloaded and re-installed Magisk. I turned Foundation back on, that didn't fix anything. It may even have just broken it more for all I know. I did notice that when it was off though, that my internet would not connect to my wifi automatically anymore.
So I downloaded a bunch of different versions of Google Play Services and Play Store to try to get one that matched. Of course, I had to use Lucky Patcher to uninstall the current broken versions. Eventually, it settled in on:
com.google.android.gms_23.17.15_(190400-534251769)-231715044_minAPI31(arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
This seemingly fixed my issue. But I had some other problems. The useless intent filter was still crashing. My OS seemed less stable as it restarted at least once for seemingly no reason, notifications for apps sorta just didn't show up sometimes even when I changed app settings to stop it from trying to save battery life, and the moment I minimized an app, it would need to reload once I put it back up. Didn't matter which app.
So I decided that I would attempt to get rid of Foundation again. I mean, I already had working versions of the apps. So I probably don't need it right? I figured since it installed weird versions of the old ones in the first place, it might be causing my issues.
This was a bad idea, because I had to try to reinstall Magisk again, which failed, but it didn't matter because Fox started saying I'm rooted again anyway after a reboot. So I turned it back on, and proceeded to reinstall the same Google Services APK. Except now it wasn't working.
I then spelunked the internet to try and find a solution, someone mentioned uninstalling Services, Play Store, AND Framework, then reinstalling. So I've now tried several versions, particularly of Framework 12 and around the time period I bought my tablet, but Gmail still gives me the error "Gmail needs Google Services to run, your device does not support Google Services." I tried a couple versions of 11 too and I even tried using Lucky Patcher to install specifically as system, but it seems like it doesn't matter much whether I install them via package installer or Lucky Patcher. I've also attempted to manually enable permissions for both Services and Framework to no avail.
My main goal is fixing this without losing my data, which I assume is exactly what would happen if I flashed a new rom. So I'm hoping somebody has an idea of what could be done here. In the meantime, I will continue trouble shooting.
(Additionally, I can't seek to get any version of Fox above 1.0.3 or so to work without it saying something crashed and asking me to report it to the dev.)
Update:
Google Play Services stopped repeatedly crashing when I installed:
com.google.android.gms_23.22.15_(190400-538334167)-232215044_minAPI31(arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk)
However, it still says my device is unsupported.
