I don't know if its an android pie issue or samsung S10+ issue but coming from a Note 9 on android oreo I notice my apps running in the background disappears in tasker. Even if i locked them in place from closing. I had like 8 apps open then few hours later only 4 was available in the tasker. I'm currently set on "high performance mode" and both "auto optimization" and "adaptive battery" is toggle off.

I find the current Note 8 auto-brightness on oreo to be abit slow to react and not very consistent. Are there any 3rd party app that will work well with the Note 8 on oreo (not rooted) that is more consistent and responsive then Samsungs?
I think you should go to
Setting
Display
Auto brightness
Then tap on Auto brightness
After that tap on Reset usage pattern...
It should keep the brightness consistent again.
I don't think that you should install third party stuff for this..
Freshly installed Pie.
There is alarm clock setup and two hours before there is icon in the notification area and random sounds (like new message received).
Also found out those random notification sounds even when there is no notification or if there is viber message notification - few random sounds will repeat after.
I did not face those issues previously when Pie was installed as upgrade on top of Oreo, but newly installed creates problem.
p.s. I'm still pissed off from Novatek bad display so I hope I can get rid of this device
+1 also got random notifications without there beeing one.
I think it could be related to the option display ambient with the option turn on periodically
@Rubens95 - true.Amazing to put it in Display-Ambient-New notifications - repeat every 2 minutes.
Thanks.
Now one issue is left - random notifications without any even, but they are rare and not so annoying.
Cheers

It seems HMD Global finally found the killer app, but unfortunately it is killing other apps!

Nokia on Android P kills any background process including sleep tracking (or any other sport tracking) after 20 minutes if the screen is off. Also when killed all alarms are stopped which renders for example any alarm clock apps useless.
This is not my work...
Found this from a AdroidPolice article
DontKillMyApp.com shames OEMs that needlessly kill useful background processes to save battery life
After killing this app, now Google Fit and all other notifications and alarms work again. Yeeeee!
That's bad reputation from their side. Disappointing.
But my issue was the 'Ambient Display' - anyway thanks for sharing.
I think Note9 512GB/8GB is sufficient enough to keep all applications in background.
But mine keeps closing apps when I don't use it for about 4~8 hours (ie overnight).
I tried to disable any battery optimization options, RAM management, etc... even lock app in multitask view...
but no successful, apps still closed after ~4-8 hours. I don't care about battery consumption.
My questions:
1. Is my phone normal or yours can keep apps in background for more than 8 hours?
2. any way to keep the app running in background forever?
OS is Pie w Mar-1 Security patch level.
Thanks
My advice let it close what it want's then as Apps misbehave adjust there power settings individually. For me personally that's about 12 apps... And this time I was smart I created a folder and created screenshots of all of them so I when do a clean install or reset I can fix everything quicker!

Hi there, just trying to get some information/understanding into this. Coming from Samsung S9+, I vaguely recall that by default, apps would be automatically put to "sleep" if they hadn't been used for 3 days.
Obviously a few things have changed since the S9+ android system - the equivalent setting appears to be called "Background usage limits" within "Device care - Battery" setting, and "Put unused apps to sleep" appears to be toggled on by default.
My query is what exactly does "Put unused apps to sleep" achieve here? I've had the phone for a few weeks now and each of the 3 categories below this have 0 apps in them. These 3 categories are "Sleeping apps", "Deep sleeping apps", and "Never sleeping apps". This makes me wonder if the default automatic "sleeping" mechanisms actually do anything? Or perhaps the duration that apps are put automatically to sleep is longer than 3 days by default now? Strange that there is no longer a setting to change this if so.
I think it ended up disabling some of my apps before I turned it off
I moved most of mine manually on my S21U, but my work S10 with android 11 which I don't use as much moved a bunch to sleeping (3) and deep sleep (20).
Can't say I was monitoring the timeframe in which it happened though
I want to disable power drain notifications for some apps, like the music player. Did not find a way to customize this.
Another thing: it looks like it has an adaptive power saver but it's more aggresive than the Android stock one. It sometimes takes 1 day or until I open the messaging app to receive messages. Is there a custom setting somewhere that I'm missing? I've just enabled the adaptive power save that I also have on my Pixel, which worked ok. No 'extreme power saving' features have been activated.
Which system mode are you using? The most extreme is the ultra durable mode. Advanced is the customisable mode. I'm using ultra durable (with some changes), adaptive battery and even a 3rd party app called Naptime and have no problems receiving messages.
I was using the standard (dynamic) mode, then switched to advanced and disabled all of the options. Now, after the latest system update, it works better, but was wondering is there anything that I can do. WhatsApp and Signal both took hours to sync with the phone screen turned off.
Oh so you need apps to sync in the background? I thought you don't receive SMS messages lol. If you already disabled "force restriction to background sync" in advanced mode's settings, check if WhatsApp and Signal are optimised in apps & notifications>special app access>battery optimization
