Selfie Using Heart Rate Sensor - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

Is there an option to take selfie using the heart rate sensor on the S10? Simply placing a finger on the heart rate sensor does not take a selfie. There is no option to enable Heart Rate Sensor in Camera Settings -> Shooting methods.

I've been looking for it too and searched online and can't find a valid answer. My guess is that it is not there anymore which really sucks. I hope they put that feature back in the next software update

I did chat with Samsung India and they said that option to take selfie with heart rate sensor is not available wirh S10.
Option to take selfie with heart rate sensor is advertised with S9 and Note 9 in UK. However on using a Note 9 at a Samsung store, I did not see an option to use/ turn on heart rate sensor under Gesture Controls in Camera settings.
Really hope the feature comes back in a future software update. I miss the feature on my S10+. I always used the sensor to take selfies with my Galaxy S6 Edge.

I totally prefer also to stock but constantly find myself missing some of the stock features. I know and use replacements like Open Camera, Papyrus, Note Buddy, etc... Does anyone know if there are apps to utilize the heart rate sensor (not using the camera)? Thanks in advance.

PETITION: Samsung to implement Camera API 2 in Note 4 firmware

Hi.
We all want better camera control and access to manual controls for our Note 4 camera.
Google has made that possible with Camera API 2 in Android 5. But Samsung decided not to implement that into they're Android 5 build for Note 4.
This will give us Manual shutter control, more ISO control, Manual blender and so on.
I have started a petition at: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/implement-camera-api-2-in-note-4-firmware
Please sign
yeah i really want this camera2 api, i really love the custom controls on my Lumia would be perfect if they came to the note too.
I want to vote but the page you linked is not availible

..
I want this too, sure.. But isn't there a way a developer can actually transfer part of the camera firmware from the s6 to the note 4?
@arovik
Petition should also Include
-Fast Firmwares Updates
-Update Apps like Gallery and Launcher just like HTC and Sony Do
Camera2 API would be perfect, but let's face it, Samsung will not react to an online petition and give us what we want.
As far as I know the Galaxy S6 supports Camera2 API, so chances are high that we'll get a Note 5 in autumn that will also support it.

No no.. Closed source Sammy firmware that controls the hardware.. It would be awesome (and incredibly difficult) for a Dev to implement something like this.

Yes S6 does (but still NOT 100%)..Figures! Still no manual shutter and one other of the main api's (can't remember which one)
But yes you're right Sammy won't do anything about a petition.
I was however practically praying for this before their LP firmware came out! But of course Sammy didn't and I just don't know why! (left out multi-users from LP too)
But this is so sweet in LP and gives their more advanced users the pro/manual controls we all crave!
Especially this camera (which for the most part is incredible but has one major flaw) where the shutter speed is way too damn slow.. It's indoor/lower lighting shooting just causes way too much motion blur - basically my one major gripe with this awesome phone.. Us with kids who like to take lots of indoor candid shots (and lighting isn't absolutely perfect as Sammy expects) will often get motion blur in parts even with the slightest movements.. Better hope your subjects stay immaculately still and don't breathe, flinch, move an inch lol!
Damn I want Camera2 on this.. Maybe (if ever) on 5.1.x? Probably not though.. Note5 and flagships beyond

This is my biggest problem. Shots during the day are fantastic, but anything in "less than outside light" (not low light...) come out ... Meh... I had the 930 and the 1520, wow, those took FANTASTIC photos! In almost every lighting condition. And EVERY Review for the Note 4 said how it was just as good or better... I couldn't believe they said that... The Note 4 camera leaves a lot to be desired in the camera department. I hope they fix this. If they don't, since I change devices frequently, I can promise my next device WON'T be a Samsung device. Other than that, and the lousy lag for recent apps and reviewing picture after taking it on the camera (all very well documented), I'm very happy.

The problem with too slow shutter speeds can be controlled to some extend.
When I use a real camera with a fixed focal length lens, I have control over shutter speed, aperture and ISO. This 3 variables mainly define the outcome of my picture.
On a smartphone the aperture is fixed, so only 2 variables are available in theory: Shutter speed and ISO.
If I increase the shutter speed, there is less time for the light to hit my sensor, to compensate this, I have to increase the ISO (and get more noise), but moving subjects will be less blurry. Unfortunately we need camera2 API to do this.
BUT: as ISO and shutter speed are directly related I can do it the other way round. If you increase the ISO the shutter speed will also increase, so setting the ISO to the highest value (and not "auto") will increase noise in your picture, but it will also increase the shutter speed.
You can also trick the metering to increase the shutter speed even more, by adjusting the exposure value ("EV"). If you decrease the EV by -1, your picture will be darker as you requested the camera to collect less light by doing so, but this will lead to an increase of the shutter speed as well.
Last but not least you can add more light by forcing the LED-flash to fire no matter what.
The app "Camera FV-5" allows to set a fixed ISO of 1600 while the stock camera app limits this to ISO 800.
You may want to try this out, if you're taking pictures of your moving kids indoors.
One more thing: If noise becomes too bad you may try to convert the image to black and white. As color noise is not an issue in b/w images, your image may look much better as in color (luminance noise will still be present though).

I know all this stuff as I use DSLR's a lot but those are all unfortunate work-a-rounds or bands aids for this phone.
Other then the fixed aperture Camera2 would give access to everything else and open up a lot of possibilities.
The S6 and G4 with their f1.9 and f1.8 apertures respectively are insane.. Makes a big difference. S6 pics are phenomenal and what I've seen in G4 reviews are even better, especially in low light!
Btw I love Camera FV-5 and Snap HDR.. Amazing apps and help a bit but this note can't access all of their amazing features... Due to no camera2 of course... Grrrr

Yep... It sucks.. There are so many who think this is literally the best camera ever and go on and on.. And it is good but that one (in my case) big scenario, it really sucks! It was made for perfect lighting and if so the shots are incredible.
Sure.. Crank up the ISO all the way and get a super noise filled shot or try the useless "sport mode" lol.. Even then, shutter still too slow

serious, nothing will happen anyways, petition or not. Do you guys seriously think Samsung will care about the 0.0001 % of users who actually know what Camera V2 compatibility is. If you want really want it, buy a Note 5 in a couple of months or S6/edge if you want it now. Let's face it Note 4 is already outdated

Low light

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the LeEco Le Pro3's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
4 stars? This camera is on par with phones from 5 years ago, especially when things get dark.
4 stars as well, better or equal than iPhone 7 but weaker than the likes of Pixel, Galaxy S7/S8, HTC. Tip: Just use Google Camera App.
Has anyone else seen a "haze" effect when shots are taken at night with the flash? I have tried multiple camera apps and they all produce the same effect. Whenever there is very low lighting and the flash is turned on I almost get this haze on every single photo. However if pitch black this does not happen and I get a perfect photo with flash as expected.
just use a custom nougat rom and modded google camera. then the camera is decent. 4 stars from me

Install a nougat ROM and google camera enable auto hdr and be amazed!
The IMX298 takes some pretty sub-par night shots. I was trying to take pics of a half moon and full, hazy moon. Looked amazing to the naked eye but the Pro3 Elite couldn't capture the full details of the moon, unfortunately. See here:

https://ibb.co/hOoRvG <---- My best night shot with this phone to date

I'm using an unrooted phone with unmodified Gcam (for 6.0) and VSCO. I also tried Open Camera but it's not as good. I wonder if Camera2 API makes a difference for low light and night shots.

It does a worse job in low light than the Zenfone 3, which has the same sensor and a poorer processor (Snapdragon 625).
Use Open Camera for low light the app makes it bright

A lot of smartphone sensors are just getting better and better, sometimes on par with older DSLRs. The Pixel 2, for example. As the Pixel line's Visual Core chip, and smartphone sensors in general continue improving, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use a smartphone for some professional photography in the future.
Obviously a Pixel 2 doesn't compare to a $20k Hasselblad, but it's an interesting comparison nonetheless: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuTnYi_HW2o
Google Camera 4.4 HDR+ or Gcam 5.1 also works on Nougat and Oreo should do good job even in low light
It's below average at this point. It was already far behind the Oneplus 3 or Mi5s in 2016 in low light.
I compared it to the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, Redmi Pro (same sensor as Redmi Note 4) and LG V30. The Le Pro 3 only beats the Redmi Pro in low light but it's not a huge victory. Even the 2015 iPhone 6s Plus is muuuch better.
The Redmi Note 5 is likely much better with its much improved camera.

It uses the same sensor as op3 & 3t but just lacks OIS. It's not really behind OP3/3T in hardware level. So, the only difference is the software and if you use a custom ROM with right GCam 5 port with right settings, you can actually take some really good photos even in low light conditions.

I'm very satisfied with the camera on the p10 phone.
Hi guyz! I just got my P10...all I say about camera- it's a beast. Daylight photos are excelent. For me the "vivid" colour mod makes it 10/10. I've been playing with the camera for all day and I came up with 2 questions:
1)Which resolution do you guys prefer- 12 or 20 mp ??(Since it has only 12 mp colour sensor- does upscaling work good 4 you?)
2)Why software doesnt allow to zoom-in while @20mp at all?
Here's an example for [standart] vs [vivid]- http://imgur.com/a/fg8e6

There is an issue with Verical Panorama. Although Horizontal Panorama works perfect, in Vertical as you go up, it gets constantly out of focus. It's hasnt been fixed since B113 and we are now in B162...I have sent the problem to Huawei in all socia media. Try it for yourself

There's already a RAW option.
Has the photo quality change or improve with the Oreo update?
On my P10 camera app version went from 4.x to 8.x with Oreo Update.
Regarding quality, i didn't see much improvement however i would say that one big flaw (for me) of the P10: artificially over-brightening night photos has been somehow improved (still has this ****ty habit but less)
Test
Some new pictures I made. The bright ones were made in Auto-Mode, the Runway at Night is made in Manual mode with ISO50 and 30s exposure.
I uploaded them to imgur for quality.

I've been using this for 2 weeks, its 4/64 and i got the latest fota update just last week (Security patch level 1 Dec 2018 - OPM1.WW_Phone-15.2016.1812.179-20181227).
Firstly using this i was disappointed by the camera quality and complained to the store but they asked me to wait for the update. Then came the update last week i stated above. The quality is quite the same. One thing worst is when you turn brightness below 50%, when you take picture and about to review, the screen will automatically turn dark around the photo. So, i can not get the exact view of what i have taken previously. Thats the most disturbing behavior of the phone.

The brightness thing is not a bug. The camera is set to override the manual brightness settings to have a clear view of what you are shooting. When you exit the canera app it will revert back to the manual brightness settings.

So in short - the camera is a work in progress. Just checking up on my own curiosity - No replies needed. Thankyou all for this thread.
