Photo editor Pro features missing - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

This is crap. They took so many features out of the gallery photo editor Pro pie update. Might just look at reverting back to Oreo.

They're both the same. Both don't do what gallery photo editor does they both just pretty up photos. Can't paste other pictures or do simple editing

Yeah, it's no more snappy or battery friendly than Oreo.

I checked and compared. Just some features at 3 dots menu on Pie. I didn't understand why they were there. Especially portrait features are useful and they should be easily accessible (like old one). So no any function loss about Photo Editor Pro. But this doesn't change the fact that I don't like Pie..
Edit: I realized. decoration section missing.

what camera app do you use?

Hi everyone,
It's one week I own the z3c and I was asking to myself what camera app would better performs with the 20,7mpx sensor.
I quite like the default one but I also like to have the full controll of the settings like when I'm using my dslr.
I know tha the manual mode is pretty cool but I'm sure as well that outiside there in the google play store there is a good app wich perform better
Any of you tried these apps?
PS: sorry for mistakes, I'm still learnig english.
I am also looking for a similar app, with at-least white-balance and exposure settings. Please let me know if anyone found a better application
I like the idea of being able to adjust the white balance and exposure by sliding your finger up and down or sideways on the screen without having to go into the menu. If there's a camera app that does that, I'd be very interested.
I am getting great results frm Camera JB+. It takes the interface to a simplified AOSP-vanilla look. No more overcomplicated interface. Quality-wise I get overall better performing pictures as the manual mode in 20MP. Also there is support for 20MP HDR, even with flash.
I'm very well suprised by this simple app. Another plus, is that it will come with a AOSP-gallery, wich I do very much prefer to the stock gallery.
If you deactivate the stock camera, this app will pop-up when you press the dedicated camera-button.
Only downside I have experienced, is no 4K video (but who actually needs this) and lacking a resolution option 16:9 15MP.
SnapHDR is the best for me when using custom roms

Currently using snapcamera hdr, Nothing to complain!
Interestint topic.
I bought Camera ZOOM some time ago, though not used it still on the Z3C. The default app certainly lacks manual setting sof exposer/time. Also, where is the ISO setting?? Am I stupid or why can I not seem to find it?? HDR options are also not easily accesible, nor is white balance. So interesting to hear what people use sucessfully, trying the ones mentioned so far now.
I've got some impressive results with Pro Capture and Pro HDR apps. Both are paid, I got them in a discount or so, some time ago.
Especially the Pro Capture has some fine tweaks, that increase the usability overall. There is a demo(free) version AFAIK for anyone who wants to try it.
Bought ProHDR because I loved it on iPhone.
I find the google camera app really good, you can select 15mp, 20mp and also provides manual exposure control on the screen. The panorama and photosphere are great.
On my HTC one X i used Camera FV-5. Tbh, it was in my experience the best camera app around, though their maybe others too. It doesn't do none of the filtering rubbish, but purely easy to access manual controls. You can even save as lossless png's and then do your own processing in your chosen software.
Bracketed frames, HDR/timelapse, long exposure and lots more.
Due to some other technical reasons, I haven't tried it on my z3c, but I suggest you really look into it. Unfortunately they don't do a demo.
I'm a wedding photographer so this was ideal for me. I may investigate for something better (if there is), but I know I will be using this again, soon.

It looks a nice app!!! I'll give it a try a tell you about how the snaps come out
I use the stock camera app.
I tried FV-5 and Pro Capture on my Nexus 4 but they were kinda glitchy. Might try them again on the Z3c. At the moment I'm using Open Camera.
I hope Sony offers RAW file support with the Lollipop update, which would make everything awesome and let us escape the mushy Sony jpeg processing, but I'm not holding my breath.

That's brilliant. I just checked, I have an older version..so will update when I install it on the xperia. It would be good to see what raw data the app can get from the sony imaging chip.
Even though its said that Android L will also have RAW capabilities. Lets see.

I had the same problem initially on my HTC Once X, but they resolved it.
I would assume the Lollipop raw feature would be available to all phones running L, though I'm not a developer so just speculating.
wow it's looks like my nikon dslr!!! I like the idea to change all the setting as when I'm using my pro camera .... I still prefer take fast snaps with the phone but ...yeah sometimes it could be go play with all these settings !!! thank you!!!
I also discovered that there is a video version " Cinema FV-5" with pretty much the same controls...interesting.
Anyway I got an issue even with the pro version...I can't save the pictures in the sd card.
Is it the same for you?

Well all parameters are based on each hardwares capability and drivers. The max I believe is ISO 3200, though my htc one x does not support that, but does go to extended ISO 50. Though, I was told custom roms (like on my htc) can restrict or help features too.
Speaking from using pro DSLR's, I would expect 3200 or more from a camera phones sensor to be very noisy. Obviously the Z3 series does go as high as 12,800, and uses their drm protected algorithms to handle the noise.
You could ask the developers, who are quite good, and see what MAX parameters the app supports for z3c. Tbh, I'd like to know that too.
FV-5 would automatically increase ISO value when the light is insufficient, and produce a lot noise in pictures.
The default Sony Camera would extend exposure time in such environment, according to the result of metering.
I did not find an app, outside the stock, with iso setting. I'm on stock kitkat. Had Sony blocked this setting for 3rd party apps or devs must use different api?
In my old Xiaomi all worked like a charm FV5, capture Pro and ABetter camera.

Solution: Improve Camera Results on Cyanogen-based ROMs Dramatically!

Background
Like most people out there, I've suffered with terrible camera results on Cyanogenmod 11 and 12: blurry, unfocused images, terrible resolution. I tried most of the alternative camera apps (including A Better Camera, etc) and they had horrible results. Cyanogenmod could not integrate TW, so there wasn't a way to get results as good as stock.
Solution
The solution I stumbled upon is Snap Camera . In an attempt to make a fair comparison, I always set equivalent settings on each app: (autofocus, HDR off, 16mp photo).
1. It produces astonishingly sharper and more attractive images than Google Camera on CM11 and CM12
2. It produces a better focus and sharper images than any other camera app I've tried on CM.
3. I tried it on stock Lollipop and it produces a sharper image than stock, but not as good as A Better Camera.
My guess is that Snap Camera has found a way to integrate with TW or with the RAW files.

Try it and share your results from your CM-based ROM here.
I'm on stock ROM and I've been using snap camera for the past month, it's awesome! I don't use stock Samsung anymore.
I love the results since it removes the noise reduction =D. I've done so many comparisons (took pics and deleted them ) and it is just so much better than stock.

Yes it's the real thing. I just don't know why there are so many complaints in the CM and related threads about the camera performance. There is already a solution: Snap Camera simply gives the best results on CM.

Does it support phase focus shot? Then I switch[emoji4]
Sent from my klte using Tapatalk
I just tried this (6.2.2 HDR apk) with not-so-great results. First post says "it removes noise" but thats precisely the problem I am having, that it is not removing noise. The shots are definitely sharper than the stock camera on OA6, which is finally like the stock camera on 4.4 with burst shots, etc, but the fact it has all this noise makes it un-usable.
The only change I made was to check the 'samsung camera' box.

Thanks for sharing. First: did you try adjusting the Sharpness setting? It is set on the highest extreme setting by default. Second: What does the Samsung Camera setting box actually do?
I think that the difference is much more dramatic on Cyanogenmod-based roms than on stock. I think that Snap can give you sharper images on a stock rom, but it's not going to be a gamechanger and you'll have to tweak settings.

I'm sorry- this thread was mainly geared towards people with CM-based roms. If you're like me, you will have tried dozens of different camera apps (including A Better Camera) on CM and gotten bad results. For some reason, Snap Camera seems to produce dramatically sharper results and focus than any other camera app I've tried on CM, especially Google Camera (which was truly terrible).
I'm sure that there are several camera apps that work well on a stock rom, but that's not the dramatic discovery I meant to convey here. I will adjust the OP to reflect this.

beats me what it does, I did not notice any difference. Yes, I played with the sharpness, still a ton of noise whether its on 0 or 6. If I play with the ISO settings I can reduce noise, the auto mode sucks.
You can check denoise but it blurs a little bit the picture

Check that box and it will denoise but,
**it also cuts each picture size in half**.
By that I mean the file size. Resolution is the same but for example with denoise on, take a pic and let's say it is 6mb. Turn denoise off, take exact same photo again, you'll see that the resulting file size might be 12mb +/- 1 or 2 mb

I'm getting 3.3mb with denoise and 7.5mb without. I don't know how you are getting 12mb!
Denoise certainly helps clarify things like writing, but it does blur fine details.
I wonder if it's possible to use the 7.5mb image and just denoise it as needed? Picasa?

Can you clarify whether the Open Camera results you are referring to are on a CM-based rom??? Almost all the camera apps give good results on TW but have horrid results on CM.

Denoise is only in the Editor app right? As i can't see it in the camera app anywhere?
i'm currently on stock Bob7 lolipop rom.
The app certainly seems quicker than stock camera app, but as mentioned before it adds loads of noise to the photos.
My guess is that it defaults to a higher ISO setting resulting in faster shutter speeds ( less blur) but more noise in the photos.

No camera functions

I bought the note 8 one week ago and today i started exploring the camera app and... Nothing
No function, no 240fps for video, no camera function like panoramic photos, only live focus
I had the galaxy s7 before and it had way more functions, where are them?
I probably can't find them but i searched everywhere
You can download them, I guess it is for not overloading the phones with modes that the user does not want

Sorry to break it to you, but the S7 had more modes. Even after I downloaded extra ones from Samsung's website.
Even the effects are less, example one could increase an effect between the scales of 1-100% , that option doesn't even exist on the Note 8.
Edit. With effects I'm referring to vignet, starlight etc ...

You never need root for Google Cam. You only need someone to make it work with the device.
So far, no luck.
But, the camera is already great. It has the same sensor as Oneplus 7 pro and that phone is one of the highest on the dxomark list:

I compared the camera to Galaxy S9, and it seems to take better photos than GS9.
But yeah, Google Cam would make it even better.

Do you happen to have the apk exact name? Also, are you using a config file?
EDIT: I tried both apks in the MI9 thread with two suggested config files.
I only shot in a dimly lit indoors scene, and the results were horrible (both 48 and 12 mpx.) Difficulties to focus. Noise was so bad, I've never seen anything like that before.
By comparison, the stock camera was like night and day, so much better.
I am using the following apk... GCam-6.2.030_Arnova8G2_Urnyx05-v1.8.apk
I also get better results with the stock camera, but I was assisting in the thread. Also if you look at the OnePlus 7 pro they have some exposure settings that do assist with the dark results.

No fault of your own, thanks for the extra info.
What do you mean "they have some exposure settings" though? Some kind of a config file?
Also, it seems like unless someone buys the phone and sends it to Arnova, the Google Cam may not really come to fruition for this phone.
At the same time, I'm well satisfied with the stock camera app. It just doesn't have the same processing power as the Google Cam at preserving detail.

After more testing, I felt like updating my post. It's quite understandable that people look for Gcam app for their Realme 6 pro phones. There are two main reasons: 1) phone's own camera creates somewhat blurred slowmotion videos; 2) sound in recorded videos is of very poor, even terrible quality.
I tried many Gcam apps (ported for Realme 6 pro), but none would support 64 megapixel shots! Moreover, slow-motion in these apps is nothing but a fake: Gcam apps either don't allow to shoot slow motion, or produce low fps videos which look horrible. Native app has it's pros and cons, so main question is what exactly you want to do: photos?, videos? videos must be with sound? etc. If you desire to improve colors in your images, and you don't need 64mp shots (which is main feature of this camera), then go for https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/filesc/GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.1_Wichaya_V2.8.1_200920.apk posted above by one of us. All lenses work, screen flash for selfie etc. Configs: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/p/f/2020/09/Realme6Pro-by-tomtimkur.xml
In addition, you can improve sound in your recorded videos by using Open Camera app instead of factory Camera app.
Wichaya Cam is good but the only problem color is washed out in photos. They look faded, not crispy or vibrant. Sometimes lens freezes while shooting in night mode. Nikita Cam is excellent in night mode, ya superior to any other cam listed and you get more brighter photos in night mode. Overall color saturation in other mode is good too.
