Increase Touch Sensitivity for screen protectors? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

So, after some back and forth with screen protectors for this note 9, bouncing between film and tempered glass. I have much more enjoyed the film, because of the touch accuracy without adjusting any settings. Unfortunately, I much more prefer tempered glass and the peace of mind of an extra layer. Knowing that there's no full adhesive for privacy screens, my question before putting another glass on here.
Does increase the TOUCH sensitivity affect/ruin touch after a while? I ask because in parallel, having brighteness maxed out creates burns, so I wondered about the touch being increased.

No, it won't degrade touch after an extended period of time. It will decrease battery as the digitizer(wacomizer?) is using more power to penetrate the screen protector when the setting is turned on.

Thank you so much for that return. I have been on the fence about it and want to use the mess out of this phone, but still want it to last at least for the next 2 years. Thanks a million.

I've had the same glass screen protector for the last 3 or 4 months and it's been as normal as it was before putting it on.

I already 8-10 hrs of SOT. So, if I remove the screen protector and disable that touch sensitivity thing I'll get more?

Let me clarify what I stated cause I just realized it can mislead folks into thinking the amount of power consumption will be noticeable.
I don't personally think it'll be noticeable. Its possible to produce numbers of course, but to see an increase to battery life by turning off the setting might be placebo. The Wacom digitizer being used by the Note series is very power conservative. Though the extra juice would be used only when the screen is on, I really don't think it'll be that drastic of a power draw when having that setting on.

I used it without tempered glass and with.
I switched to Touch Sensivity, i turned it on and have the SAME (Exactly SAME) Standby and Screen On Times, like with normal touch Sensivity.
In my opinion : It does not consume more power.

It has to consume more power. Whether it is noticable depends on how much power it draws. If it didn't consume more power, there would be no need to include such a setting, because the sensitivity would just be cranked up all of the time.

It probably consumes 5 or 10 extra minutes of SOT that you don't even see it.

I use plastic film, I don't have the touch sensitivity enabled and no issues.

You won't/shouldn't have any issues cause there's not much more layer that the electro charge would have to go through to sense the touch(capacitive). I chuckle a little at the .9mm glass screen protectors. It's like the adhesive doesn't count at all when they post the specifications of the protector.
Technically speaking, the only folks that should have to even enable the extra sensitivity are the ones that use the protectors with the dot matrix patterns(adhesive on sides only).

I am not using one. I recommend checking the accessories section to see what others have used and their opinion on them.

if you are in the UI Pie
You can go to seting--> Display --> Touch sensitivity!

Mmmm - no I don't think so. A) The Iphone is capacative and uses screen protectors. B) HTC HD is not even out yet so there's hardly any accessories for it yet. There's no desk stand yet but doesn't mean it can't use one
Thanks. Was just wondering because Martin Fields usually is very up to date and they haven't got anything yet. And my HD2 is supposedly delivered on November 13.

I've been really curious how capacitive screen really works! And indeed, capacitive screens still works with screen protectors. I have applied Invisibleshield for my previous Ipod Touch, and it still works.

To my knowledge, capacitive screens work by detecting tiny currents passed across the skin. Kinda like completing a circut for current to cross. As human skin conductive to a degree this is what enables capacitve touch screens to be in theory much more responsive than resistive touch screens. The fact it works through a screen protector is because the protector itself allow tiny electrons to pass and complete the so called circut for hte device to know where we have touched the screen.
There are screen protectors available in Singapore.
It is common knowledge that the HD2 screen is a little too sensitive, especially for typing. After applying a screen protector, the sensitivity seems to be JUST RIGHT! I can type at least as accurately as my diamond2.
this why there aint many srceen protectors..

Strange request: Screen protector to reduce senstivity and preferably anti glare

I'm looking for a screen protector that will reduce sensitivity. I'm not sure I like capacitive screens... With my previous Touch HD I can use anything with pin sharp accuracy.
I attached FOLIX-Screen protector antireflective (sorry, can´t post external links as Junior member). Bought it from Amazon GER.
Attaches easy and perfectly, no air-bubbles, gives a much better haptic response and reduces mistyping and best of all: NOW I can fully use it in direct sunlight as Navi-System on my ultralight-gyroplane.
Together with the tweaks and progs from the xperts in this forum (You are absolutely great guys !) it spared me to buy a new mini-notebook for the go.
Wouldn´t know how to live and navigate w/o HD 2 any more

I got a set of three off eBay for £3. They reduce glare because they have a satin texture, and reduce sensitivity (probably because of their cheapness!) but in this instance it's a great advantage.
My keyboard has almost COMPLETELY stopped going crazy outdoors and is now very usable. No tweaks needed. It fits well at the top but bevels off level with the middle of the keys rather than being cut out. This isn't really a problem for me though.
If you want the eBay link I can pass it on. The brand is E-cell.
Thanks for the help people.
I ended up buying the cheapo anti glare protector from e-cell. I'll let you know how it went once received.
I'm using an E-Cell one, it's great!
I bought a pack of 5 cheap one of ebay, and I now have more control over the screen as its less responsive

LOL I went around and bought from 10 different suppliers on ebay their antiglare screen protectors.
I've the e-cell ones too. personally don't think it's very good. it's very thin and it scratches relatively easily. dents easily IMHO.
Of all those I received, I prefer the ones from amor_istores.
I don't like some of the others coz they don't have a curve at the bottom. Not very comfortable with them since others provide "more" protection.
AVOID the ones from hello.6670 : They're not anti-glare at all, but they're fantastic clear screen protectors, looks as if you don't have a screen protector. I emailed wanting to change for something that's really anti-glare, but the seller's pretty rude, and I've actually opened a dispute with them.
Thanks If I don't like the e-cell SP I will give your suggestion a go.

I saw last week a shop selling the invisibleshield for the HD2 and a note that says it reduces sensitivity so need to press extra hard... was a bit too expensive for me.
Hope this helps.
Oh yes just a note. Some of the screen protectors I've tried cause my screen sensitivity to be totally off... you know there's a thread talking about screwed up screen sensitivities, where there are ghost taps, inaccuracies etc? Yes, That definitely happens for me with the invisibleshield, some of the mirror screen protectors.
of course, your experiences may vary. I wouldn't have pinned it down to the screen protectors if I didn't start off with a super good one, with no problems, and problems starting only with some of the other screen protectors and gone once I removed them.
This WILL reduce censitivity but also it will increase friction. meaning, it will be hard to slide your fingers on the screen since you're practially sliding your finger on some non-slide material.

I've got one of those on at the moment. Does work for anti glare and makes the screen less sensitive.

Will S Pen damage the screen?

I just got my note and as usual l am very paranoid about it. Will using S Pen frequently scratch it?
BTW: I wrote this entire message with handwriting recognition on note.

I've had my Captivate (with gorilla glass) for over a year and there isn't a scratch on it. I am careful, however, the glass is pretty durable. I've never liked screen protectors, they always degrade the view of the screen somewhat. Yes, I've always purchased quality screen protectors, that isn't the problem

Well, think about this - will you actually be using the stylus all the time? I'm still going to be using my finger for most things, unless I really want to make precise lines, write, etc. I'm not going to color or paint, that isn't something I'd do, but write lists, perhaps...that's about it. So, if it only comes out occasionally, then I don't see the issue. It is glass, after all, not a soft material like my old Palm unit - I wore out the upper corners playing solitaire
I've had my Dell Streak for over a year. First 3 month, kept a screen protector on it, but I took it off and have been screen protector free since. In and out of a pouch dozens of times a day, not one scratch. If it has gorilla glass, don't worry about it unless you use a diamond tip

If you're pressing hard enough to make noise, I actually wonder if the screen is going to break the stylus. The tip looks like it's made of plastic.
Slightly off topic, if you write a lot it might be worth getting a screen protector so the surface has more friction. I used to stick scotch tape to my palm so the stylus felt more like a pencil.
- Frank
Back in the days of the windows tablet (yes long before the iPad) I had an Acer that I could only operate with a stylus. A wacom stylus, with the same tip as the one that comes with the Note. I used it for years on a day to day basis and even used a writing to text input. Not a scratch! And this was without a screen protector.
Because the Note has a (gorilla) glass screen (in contrast to the Acer which had some kind of plastic screen) it didn't even come to my mind that I could ever scratch the Note screen with the stylus.

Zaggs tempered glass revision 2 has been on the money. I've placed this thing on twice. Once when I got it and, the second time, I removed it from my old unit after a screen burn-in replacement, and place it onto my new unit. No air bubbles and the glass feels high quality, comparable to Whitestone sans the complex installation. It sits on the screen only slightly curving to the edge, and it does sit flush without interfering with the edge tab if I choose to use it. It is quite expensive ($50) but imho, it's quite worth it after successful installation. Highly recommend it!

While I agree with you that it goes on nicely you didn't mention that since it doesn't cover as much screen as other protectors and also has black side bars you get a weird effect where there's screen, black bar, rest of the screen which is quite annoying.

yes there are black borders around SP which the top and bottom part aligns with the phone borders, so no issues there. Depending on an individual's taste, the side borders may be of concern. However, I made no mention of any weird effects as a result from the blk borders and / or the edges not being fully covered because I haven't experienced any negative effects thru general use of the phone. I must also mention, that in some apps, i.e. flipboard the first letters of words that display close to the edge of the screen may be partially blocked by the SP borders. But for me that's not a problem, as i don't experience this issue with most of the apps I use on a daily basis.

i have tried these, good product in terms of clarity and touch sensitivity. the issue i had was that the vertical edges would easily crack with a bit of pressure as they dont seat on the screen as well as they should.
my current solution for using these is to remove the adhesive backing and reapply with loca adhesiveand cure with uv light.

Tested these a month ago. Cracked two working out bubbles. Glass quality is very bad. One cracked on the right side. The other on the bottom using a fingernail to work out a bubble. No chance that this is good 9h tempered glass. Opened a dispute and got both refunded. My opinion, not recommended.
Not recommended too, to narrow, covering edges with black bars completely.

ok so i purchased one and it arrived yesterday
while applying it i got some dust stuck under the protector, tried to take it out but it wouldnt move
applied it anyway and its pretty good except for the air bubbles near the curved sides of the screen (and the dust particles)
the protector is really fragile too, it chipped and cracked a corner while working out the bubbles - others have complained that theirs cracked for no reason
other than that it actually feels amazing and is compatible with the ringke fusion
ive contacted support, hopefully theyll send me out a new one
I wonder why they disabled comments in their video?
What's the best between this one and Dome Glas ?
I don't like the cut around speaker - face camera ...
A real full cover for front face is the most beautiful but may be not very good for quality of face camera ???

Screen Response Problem

I have a Zagg Glass curve elite never had any issues nor does it feel like it is separating from the phone screen. My issue is when using the keyboard is when i really notice it using the 0 P L Backspace and Enter it is not as responsive as the rest of the keyboard sometimes i have to go back or hit the button again it was not always like this only until recently
Things i have tried are:
Using the dialer code and testing screen calibration
Tried a different keyboard
Wiped cache
checked for updates
So is there another step to try before i go the route of factory reset but i have everything where i like it i will do it as a last resort. I could peel off my tempered glass and see if it fixes it before i reset it but then i have to request a replacement from Zagg
Just looking to see if there is anything i missed or if anyone else had issues with the zagg tempered glass over time
Just got my Note 8 four days ago. Held off a day or two before putting my Zagg InvisibleShield (glass curve elite) because I wanted to enjoy the naked screen...
I installed the Zagg threw days ago...the change in screen responsiveness/sensitivity is appalling. I noticed a substantial issue with the keys on the right side of the keyboard as you mentioned.
I feel this is 100% the result of the screen protector. There were no bubbles, it looked like a perfect install.
I have reached out to Zagg Support for answers. I will keep this threat updated with their response.
It's definitely the protector. It's not just the zag ones though. All of them do it but we just don't notice at first. I've ended ripping them all off. It just gets worse as you continue to use it.

It's many, but not all protectors... I've had mine (not a zagg) 3 months and there have been no touchscreen issues or lifting issues.

Whitestone...I know some reported issues, but it's been good to me so far. I tried a few others that I ripped off within 5min lol.

I do recommend when you get the new one installed that you let it sit overnight without using it or putting it in your pocket so that the adhesive can bond better in the installed position. Sometimes if you start using it right away the adhesive can become loose and lift away from the phone causing that lowered responsiveness. This is a bit more likely with that phone due to the curved edge of the phone and the fact that the adhesive is around the outside edge of the InvisibleShield. Another thing that might help is to adjust the sensitivity settings on the phone itself.
Well the second one was a little better, they are now replacing the second one with a Glass Curve Elite model. Difference being the Elite model has adhesive on the whole screen protector whereas the Glass Curve only has adhesive on the edges.
