Screenprotectors, what is the best option? - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

The P30 Pro has a nice curved screen.
Looks nice, but is also fragile and on top of that a nightmare for screenprotectors.
What screenprotector has a full edge to edge coverage, protects during a fall and doesn't mess with the in-display-finger-print-sensor?
Plastic, Tempered glass, nano coating, gel, other?

spigen temper glass any good ?

I just got the spigen one today, as with all curved screen phone's it only has glue around the edges and also covers the screen a tiny bit along the sides

I've bought lots of DomeGlass protectors so I had some uv Loca glue sticks available.
I then just bought a regular glass screen protector that had glue on the edges. I removed the glue edges and used the uv Loca glue on the glass and I got kind of a DomeGlass for the phone. Happy for now.

I got a full glue one for mine. Not a dome glass brand but some Chinese knockoff from a kiosk at the mall here. I've only had it on for like 4 days but it's perfect so far. No microdot pattern, fingerprint sensor works as if it's not there, and you can't even notice it's there unless you look around the camera notch.

Does the finger print sensor still work with these?

My device comes in a few days and I look too.
If anyone has an idea for good screen protector I'm happy to read

G-color TPU screen protector. I used to have it on my old S7E as well, and, from my experience, it's the only one that doesn't have issues with curved screens.
Also, it doesn't mess with fingerprint sensor.

Just anyone without the freaking black edge, will do ?

Anyone else having issues with the proximity sensor not working with a UV glue glass protector? Mine doesn't work (screen goes black when answering a call). Also, wouldn't a thick screen protector like a glass or TPU one dampen the sound from the 'electromagnetic levitation' speaker?

I have p30 pro for 10 days and put tmax uv tempered glass on
The best glass for me. Zero issues at all.

Most of these glass protectors lift after time. My g colour is lifting already.

I managed to install the tempered glass while in the original Huawei TPU cover

Hi,
First of all, I’m sorry if I don’t post my question in the right thread.
I installed today a Zagg Invisibleshield Ultra Clear on my brand new P30 Pro.
The installation process were quite simple, no problem at all.
My question is : do you think these glue traces are normal under the screen protector?
Hope that these traces will disappear under 24 to 48 hours.
What do you think guys ?

I cover my phone with MobileOutfitter clear coat (front, back and frame) and i have no issue with fingerprint, proximity and light sensors.
I do not use cover for 90% of the day. Only when I go to the gym i put on a magnetic cover with back transparent glass (this kind of cover don't lift the corners of the screen protector)

i'm using UV Glue Screen Protector For Huawei P30 Pro
it is perfect, you can find it on aliexp

I just applied the Supersheildz full screen and it is nice for the price. it does get fingerprinted fairly easy , but fits with both my spigen neo hybrid & ringke fusion (clear) .
Oh and the fingerprint reader worked just fine too

Hello,
I don’t want to put a tempered glass on my P30 Pro because it lasts only few days/weeks before peeling off.
Does anybody can suggest me which screen protector (non tempered glass) to buy ?
Thanks!

What is the best screenprotector that I can find in India?

Screen protector with otterbox?

Does anyone know if a Tempered Glass screen protector would work with a Otterbox Defender(with the Otterbox screen pushed out). I like the MIME Tempered Glass screen protector but dont know if it will work with a Otterbox Defender and not have any gaps between the edge and the case.
I have the defender case with an anti glare SP on and it seems to work great... I'm not too sure about the tempered glass ones, but with this SP, it doesn't fully cover up to the edges, but the case covers those areas perfectly... I'm really happy I got rid of the crappy otterbox SP
If by "pushing the screen out" you mean removing the plastic film covering the screen then I think it should work. I can confirm a perfect fit for the Commuter, but with a Defender im guessing the MIME would be a little bit too thick
Yes i mean take out the Otterbox Screen protector and putting a tempered glass on in its place, im just worried about the tempered glass protector will not go under the Defender cases edges around the phone so its sealed from debris and stuff. If its too think i can shave off a little bit of the underside of the case if needed to get a good fit but i really dont want to do that. Ive just heard and read that the tempered glass is better for a Note 2 than a zagg because of the s pen can cause the zagg to mess up.
I think there would be problems using a MIME glass with a defender. Some parts of the case will be covering the glass protector. Im not so sure about the edges of the phone, but Im pretty sure you would have problems with the top parts, where the front facing camera and the sensors are placed.

I have a MIME ghost glass SP with a defender and it works perfectly. Yes the top part of the glass is covered by the front of the case buts it better since it creates a seal like the original sp did.

Can you post pics? I would like to see, ive read and heard that Otterbox was going to revise the Defender for the Note 2 but havent heard anything from them or seen anything about what they are going to do to it. I love my Otterbox Defender but the screen lets too much dust and debris under it, i cleaned it a few minutes ago with a micro fiber cloth and i already have a little bit of dust under it.
Also how are you liking the battery mod you have done?
Hi people, i just registered here to share my somewhat of a solution to the defender screen protector problem on the Note 2. It still shouldnt be like this after spending this kind of money on a case, but still its way better than stock.
I got my defender knowing about the screenprotector problem but I found it to be the only case protective enough for my liking.
I believe the problem comes from a combination of the substantial amount of glue between the frame and the protector, and the curved screen. I believe the glue pushes the protector down towards the edges of the screen, making the middle of the protector pop up along the sloping screen, so it actually lifts away from the screen in the middle.
What I did was very simple. I first popped the protector out of the frame. I did this with my hands without heating it because its a very flimsy and weak connection anyway. For those afraid to break it you could heat it up with a hair dryer first.
Then next thing i removed pretty much all of the glue, but i didnt wipe the 2 parts clean, leaving bits of what you could describe as a very thin anti-slip layer.
Next thing i had the phone in the rear part of the case, aligned the detached screen protector with a clean screen, and gently clicked the top frame on.
This leaves me with a very snug fitting protector that is not moving at all. I will post an update if this proves to be a short term thing but so far its doing great.
Eli.

Question on wet install screen protectors

Hi Everyone,
Quick question about the wet install screen protectors, can the solution that comes with the screen protector (e.g. skinomi,clearcoat...) wear out the oleophobic coating?
It is just a mild soap and water solution. Dries in minutes on the front.
I hate the wet sp. Why would you want to put liquid on your phone on purpose. Not worth it to me. You can apply the dry one instead. If you have lint under use scotch tape to get it out.
Honestly, you can get a nice tempered glass protector for about $5.
Don't use the wet applied protectors, they feel horrible.
They are always sticky feeling and soft.
So soft that you end up with permanent marks in them from your fingernails.
The clarity of the wet applied protectors is also sub-par.
Get a nice tempered glass protector and follow this for installation:
Got to the bathroom (just trust me on this).
Run a hot shower and close the bathroom door.
Clean the phone while the steam builds up in the room.
Clean the phone some more.
Keep cleaning that phone.
OK check that there is no more dust on the phone.
Peel off the back protective layer on the tempered glass.
Turn the phone sideways.
Hold the glass from the ends with just your fingertips.
Evenly align the glass with any cutouts or the edge of the display.
Drop the glass all at once onto the display from about 1/4" above it.
Press the glass lightly with a finger in the middle of the display and watch as it applies itself.
You should have a perfectly applied protector now.
The tempered glass will feel exactly like the phone with no protector on it, it will also have an oleophobic coating that will resist fingerprints and smudges.
*EDIT* The steam from the shower will remove the dust in the air and guarantee you a perfect installation every time (unless you place it in the wrong spot)
Hey everyone,
Yeah, i know wet screen protectors are ugly and feels horrible to the touch. i originally installed the tempered glass screen protector and a long piece of dust got stuck under, so i tried to remove it. I used my nail and lifted up the screen protector and removed the dust BUT the corner where i dug my finger nail in to lift sp then had a pushed in adhesive (not sure how to explain it). I like my screen protector installs to be at least 99% perfect (even installing for friends) and since i had a clearcoat full body protector next to me. I was planning to use it on the body of the phone and not the screen. So since the SP wasn't perfect i removed it and stuck on the CC SP on it as a temp solution. I tried it install it and man was it hard. I stuck on the Skinomi one on a different phone before and that came out perfect with ease. Didn't know why but the CC one was nasty.
So anyways, after 30mins of attempting i gave up, removed it and packed the G4 back into the box until i had a new tempered SP.
Now i got a tempered one installed perfectly but i wanted to know of the solution could removed/wear out the oleophobic coating.

It should not remove the coating.
The oleophobic coating is waterproof and oil resistant.
I have never in the past (before tempered glass) had a problem with a wet installed protector removing the coating.
I will say that if you do not use enough of the spray that comes with them, they WILL stick way too much to your phone and that may damage the coating when removing the protector.
Many Thanks, I think i put sufficient amount of water on. It didn't take too much effort to remove.
I have used glass protector for my G3 and G4 from Glass4M Glass. Well and smooth for touching. http://glass4m.com/product/glass-m-premium-tempered-glass-screen-protector-for-lg-g4

I have/had no problems with a wet install screen protector.. I prefer it mostly for the fact that you can move it around while it's actually on the phone to get the positioning you're happy with.
Also make sure the protector has a cut out for the front sensors because l got one that didnt and i screen would turn off when making a call due to the protector blocking the proximity sensor.

You can calibrate the sensor to work with screen protectors that cover it.
You should be able to find the information on how to do it from google, if not let me know and I will try and find a link explaining it.
I don't remember exactly how to do it, but it was with one of the hidden menus from the dialer.

Hello, any recommendation of tempered glass?

Mofi is good one i think.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/32760984844/32760984844.html
The Mofi screen protector is easily the worst thing I've ever used. I had it on for about 6 hours before giving up.
I've used mofi glass screen protectors before and had no problems but this time they've done something different. Instead of the curved glass sticking to curved screen there is only some adhesive around the very edges and the home button. This leaves the portion covered the screen itself "floating". When I fitted the protector it was flush, though it didn't feel solid the way a glass protector usually feels like an extension of the original display but okay. Touches weren't being registered properly and things weren't great.
Over a couple of hours the glass flexed enough that I could hear an audible tap as the screen protector made contact with the phone.
Complete waste of time and bizarre, I've fitted mofi brand curved iPhone 7 screen protectors that adhered in the usual way, this having a band of glue around the outside did not work.
If anyone can recommend a glass screen protector for this phone that isn't held in place only around the edges I really would welcome it.

I have the same issue with the glass screen protectors too. After getting my first screen protector, I have been looking very carefully at the screen protector photos before I buy them.
It seems almost all the 3D glass screen protectors have glue only around the edges and possibly come from the same factory.
There are some PET 3D screen protectors which seem to be good, but they are just plastic.
I have an order on the way with what I hope is a proper 3D glass screen protector. I will update if it is any good.
The one I am getting is called Mocolo. I cannot post any links yet because I am new user. I messaged the seller and they said it has glue on the whole surface of the glass, if that is correct I will let you guys know.
Do not buy Mocolo one either, it is the same as all the other 3D glass screen protectors for Mi Note 2. Seems they all come from the same factory with the crappy only on edges glue.
I can't find any good ones right now.
Sorry guys to say that, forget about tempered glass. Your device has a curved screen, like S7 Edge, Note 7. I've owned a Note 7 and there was not a single good working tempered glass protector. Same story with the S7 Edge. There are only protectors having the glue on the edges. If there's nothing suitable for Samsungs blockbuster device, why should there be something for the Mi Note 2. Even for my Mi Mix, with much more less curved edges there's nothing covering the screen fully that is working. Only crap. I gave up and use it naked.
Same here:

poor quality. And after few weeks glass shattered on the edge

Has anyone got a reasonable soft-plastic screen protector for their note 2? I can imagine that tempered glass wouldn't work well, but there should be plastic ones that can work, right?
I've used
ZAGG InvisibleShield HD Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus
Was a very close fit to the device dimensions.
It's a wet install so watch a few you tube videos to see what needs done.
Other soft screen covers for that device would also work.
What DOESN'T work are the curved hard covers because they introduce a gap between screen and cover, reducing response

Got the Nillkin frosted which is really nice. Only thing it's a bit more slippery than I thought it would be. But got it just today so that might improve.
for screen protector, i decide to use nano liquid screen protector, the curve design is much better using using this.., no glass, no plastic over the top. review looks like promising, but i'll gamble with reality, 1 week run without screen protector, only liquid protected, still look good
Using this 3D temperred Glass protector since yesterday: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/Full-Coverag...717177?hash=item2385dd21b9:g:FtMAAOSw3gJZMIIU
It's ok. Not too great. But considering this is sort of the only one available it's gotta do the job.
Fits good. Protects the whole screen. The surface gets dirty pretty easy, worse than the screen itself. Protector itself seems a little bit "misty" not too clear... There seems to be a little glue on the edges.
Used to have better protectors on my Samsung Note 3. But overall, it protects my screen and does the job. Hope there will be better alternatives in the future.
Did anyone try this one? http://www.ebay.nl/itm/Full-Coverage-3D-Curved-Tempered-Glass-Screen-Protector-for-Xiaomi-Mi-Note-2-Bla-/162621714306?hash=item25dd026f82:g:LeIAAOSwJhdZiKXP
Everybody here uses the Nillkin case I think.. this one: https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/case...rosted-PC-Plastic-back-cover/32769605569.html
Another one, from Lephee is a good try I guess: https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/LEPH...i-Note-2-Cover-PC-Matte-Hard/32763435273.html
The other brands I think they are ugly ..
I think I will use it without a screen protector for a month to see how it feels..

Note 8 Screen Protector - IQShield/Skinomi/Spigen

Hey everyone,
I really don't know what happened lately but suddenly choosing a screen protector is harder than choosing a phone
I came across 3 fairly dominant companies and would like a more personal opinion from you.
1) Skinomi TechSkin/MatteSkin
2) IQ Shield Liquid Shield/Matte
3) Spigen Neo Flex
All 3 are considered "case-friendly", although from what I have heard, they all don't go very well with the Otterbox Defender, which is what I'm planning to have, but correct me if you know otherwise.
Questions:
1) Which one would you consider to be the best one? Are you experienced with any of them?
2) Both Skinomi and IQ Shield have a "version 2" screen protector. Does anyone know what is the difference between version 1 and 2?
3) I'm a HUGE fan of Matte screen protectors, I just love the feel and the anti-fingerprint. The only downside to it is a bit of a blurry feel in the screen. If any of you tried their Matte protectors, how bad is that blur?
Thank you,
Omga4000

I wasn't able to catch what you wrote before the edit, but any opinion is good!
The problem with Tempered Glass is that there is only 1 company which makes a "full adhesive" solution, Whitestone.
From what I have read - they are really not that great, and do not support the Otterbox Defender series.
If you know something else, please do share
IQ Shield and Skinomi are better than the Spigen and all three are better than Ringke. Version 1 and 2 differentiate between the cutoff points for case friendliness. Ver 1 of the IQ Shield ends before the screen of the Note 8 ends which means a tiny part of the screen will be unprotected on the sides. Version 2 covers the whole visible screen and works for some cases. Version 1 works with basically all cases, but it gives you slightly less protection due to it being "most case friendly" of all.
You're going to get graininess from the matte protectors, that's just the name of the game.
I have had success with the IQ Shield. No peeling and relatively smooth for a soft TPU.

Perfect, that works for me.
Ordered both the Version 1 and Version 2 of IQ Shield (Matte). I hope that version 2 will fit the Otterbox, though I doubt it.
Thank you
I had the spigen neo flex on my s8 and went with the skinomi techskin on my note 8 based on amazon reviews. Just installed it last night, super easy and haven't noticed any issues. I'm using it with a spigen neo hybrid case and all my edges are flat on the screen. Any streaks or air bubbles left cured over night. Highly recommend.

I can attest to the quality of the Skinomi TechSkin. It's great, and somehow it protected by screen from a good fall on some rocks when I launched my phone in the air getting out of my car as I forgot it was in my lap. Put a bunch of dents in the protector but my screen was fine. May have been a fluke.
Otherwise, it's a wet application and can be a bit aggravating, especially getting the sides the stick, but eventually they do. It looks HORRIBLE for the first 24 hours or so, but all the bubbles dissappear and you can't tell it's even on.
My only complaint is the S Pen gouges it pretty bad, but it's really only noticeable in direct light or with the screen off.
Edit: also I believe I got version 2, it fit with every case I own, and I have quite a few.
Does either of the matte skins for the ringke onyx?
Thank you ?
Best note 8 PET Protector (Easy ULT)
I found this one to be the best combination of coverage, Feel and works with the S Pen without leaving lines or too much drag. They dont do a case friendly version but i cut the sides down 2mm either side and re cut the radius on the corners

I trust by now there is another alternative. I'm looking for a full adhesive solution as I don't feel comfortable with a protector that only adheres to the edges leaving an air bubble in the middle of the screen.
Whitestone Fail
I tried the Whitestone and it didn't go too well. Got bubbles under the screen protector on the first and second try. The adhesive ran all over - down into the speaker holes, in the S-Pen slot, earphone jack, charger port......it was a complete disaster.
Me and a couple of friends are using the Samsung official screen protector for S8+ and they're great. They will heal very fast from pen mark

That must mean that it is "soft" and not be able to withstand shatter tests (for accidental drops), nor any direct impacts to the screen by sharp objects.

I have the Whitestone Dome and it works 100% perfect with the Otterbox Defender Pro.

Which of the two protectors: Dome Premium Film (EPU film screen) or the E-Jig (tempered glass)?
The factory fitted protector is still the best for me, and works perfectly with my Otterbox Folio with zero lifting. And even better using the S-Pen leaves no lines as if it's made of glass.
Unfortunately I already scratched it.

I'm using the Whitestone Dome tempered glass with the E-Jig installer.

Nope, I've used the Whitestone Dome glass on past devices also.

Had you have any issues with the glue? the glass lifting easily if you touch the corners roughly?
I’ve had many cheap uv glue screen protectors which work well until something touches the corners.

No, but I'm always careful when using a new case to make sure it's not hitting the edges of the screen protector.
No problem at all with the glass lifting while touching the corners either.

I just really wonder if their glue is something special. Whitestone is in my opinion just to expensive especially if you don’t live in the US. I’m afraid that it will come off just as easily as the AliExpress one’s. I don’t want to have a screen protector which I have to take care off! That’s not the point. Most people also seem to be using with a case which I don’t want to do. Also I’ve read many negative things about them especially about CS.

Could you please elaborate on these problems? Also, what is CS?
I've been debating whether to use a case or not myself... as for the screen protector, for now I'm just using one of them flexible liquid skin type soft protectors - only issue is the rubberiness of their surface. In my country none of the Tempered Glass screen protectors sold are fingerprint scanner friendly. Whitestone dome is not available (also, it's riduculously expensive to import) and the best quality big name TGSP I ccould find was Spigen, even that carries poor reviews on Amazon.

I've had problems with the Whitestone dome and the s21U. I've put about 5 of them on the phone and everyone of them has chipped or cracked at the edge without the phone being hit or dropped in anyway. The glass seems so thin , it's unstable and not strong enough.
