What kind of 'pro' settings would you like to have in video recording mode?

Exposure adjustment, focus, white balanced, ISO, all the features that are available in the photo pro mode. They are no longer available for video recording.

According to a Samsung Care Ambassador, the OEM is well aware of the situation, and may fix the issue in a future update.

Sadly, they said that 2 months ago. Samsung, fix this Galaxy S10 bug ASAP please.

I can't believe this is not being solved. This is the latest flagship fgs! So annoying!

Camera speed discussion (selfie/rear) - slower than older generations?

So I got my girflriend a S9 and she claims that the camera is slower than the S7 (both front/rear).
Any other opinions on this? Last Sammy phone I owned was S2.
It's probably one of the camera settings, something to do with focus or light causing a slight delay on the shutter while it adjusts, mine is instant as soon as I press the shutter button, I owned the S7 before this too

What about the selfie camera? There's no option to delay it.

If it is focussing it has a few ms delay but otherwise also instant
Try changing the HDR setting?

I know low light makes it take a little longer as it increases the shutter open time and depending on the darkness it can take a bit longer to focus too, but was the same on the S7

camera question

Dears,
There's a weird thing record video it records for 5 minutes or 10 which is frustrating because you can't always tell when the recording stopped. It's there a way to change this? Btw I've only tried recording on 4k 30 fps & and 60 fps. Why use 1080 when you have 4k. Please help. Is there a setting I need to change?

4K and 60fps are limited to 10 minutes. If you want to record longer you have to switch to 1080p.

Yup. Need to limit it. Otherwise your phone will overheat.
For clearer list of limits:
4K @ 60 = 5 minutes
4K @ 30 = 10 minutes
FHD @ 60 = 10 minutes
Super slow motion has limit of 0.4 seconds per snippet, and, at most 20 such clips per recorded video (depends on the settings). (Although at least the Samsung/ca-site still thinks its 0.2 seconds.)
The funny thing is, while FHD @ 60fps has 10 minutes limit, the slow motion mode (FHD @ 240fps) has no limit (at least no limit shown on the display like for the three limited modes), and that mode would have the highest input pixel rate of all the modes. Yet no overheating / time limit with it? Go figure
Can one immediately continue with another 5 or 10 minute clip, giving no time for cooling down? I have not tried, but I haven't read about any limits on immediate restart, either. Also, if overheating is the reason, then ambient temperature should reduce all those limits (unless they are already based on the worst case, which would sound quite a stupid design decision, because the worst case can be quite a bit nastier (say, 35C-40C) than a typical situation (~20-25C). So yeah, I don't quite buy that overheating yet.
However, whatever the reason, the limits are those. If they are too short, a real video camera might be the solution.
Thank you all for the replies it's just really annoying with the limits and I've not encountered heating issues yet and I've been restarting the recording for almost 40 minutes. Tried it in two different environments. 1 Jordan the middle east in heat. 2 the Philippines on the beach with humidity.
I record videos using a third party app. No time limits, and trust me, no overheating issues.

In 4K and/or 60fps?
As you know Samsung plays it safe now with overheating and battery issues. So you can't blame them for being cautious.

Which 3rd party app let you record [email protected]? I tried probably all available apps. None of them allowed me to set [email protected] fps. They removed pro mode from official app, so there is no way to record 4k 60fps video with fixed iso/exposure. This phone is useless for video recording on pie.

Afaik, they did not remove the [email protected] option, there are mentions of this even on this forum, but see also e.g.
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S9/No-Video-Pro-Mode-after-S9-Update/td-p/458656
That is, they just failed badly with the user interface design.
However, the pro video mode was removed. That above thread seems to indicate that the Samsung's camera app is supposed to get the pro video mode back... some day.. maybe.. I believe it when I see it.
For the "which 3rd party app let you record [email protected]".. Since that Phazonclash' message is old (probably pre-Pie), and I am still on the old version, I think I can say this much (but NOTE: I have Exynos, Snapdragon versions had restrictions, like no 60fps):
Filmic Pro seems to allow recording at 4K 60fps, and after downloading the test snippet to PC, VLC claims H264 MPEG4 ACV1, 3840x2160, 60.005110fps, and about 200Mbit/s bitrate. So at least Filmic Pro could do it on Exynos with pre-Pie firmware. (Of course the encoding and quality/bitrates can be adjusted, but I just did a quick test with whatever other settings.)
Due to some bugs/things (mainly due to external mic activation quirk), I contacted Filmic recently, and they suggested that I'd stay with this earlier firmware, even though the external mic issue seems to have gotten fixed with/in Pie - they still have some other issues when running on Pie. And I'll indeed be delaying my update until Samsung can get its Pie version properly developed and past this real beta-testing period. So, I can't test if that Filmic Pro [email protected] situation would have changed to worse. And naturally, can't say anything for the Snapdragon variants.
See also: https://filmicpro.helpscoutdocs.com/article/41-samsung-s9-and-s9-filmic-pro-v6-compatibility-guide
That one reveals some of the things hampering the 3rd party apps. Some additional bits here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/help/using-s9-plus-filmic-pro-zhiyun-smooth-t3847010
Even with those restrictions, I wouldn't call the phone "useless" for video recording (in general); quite the great movies have been done with systems far less capable than even the restricted Snapdragon variants. But the lack of fixed exposure etc. sure limits a lot, even more than the lack of 60fps.

I know about it, but when I can't set fixed exposure and iso it's like not being about to record at all for me, because auto mode for video is absolutely dreadful in literally every situation.
PS. my Note have Exynos CPU too.
Filmic Pro - tried their test app and it says that there's [email protected] support. I was about to buy it, but I hate paying for something without testing it first. I downloaded "patched" version and I wasn't able to set anything above 30fps. Even for lower resolutions (it was just greyed out). So this app is nothing but scummy scam. At least for Note 9 @ pie (but still, I don't know why their test app says that this mode is supported, this app is not cheap and they should release trial version - 1 day trial would be enough).

Yeah, trial version would be better, but the test app is still better than having no demo/test/trial at all (like with many other paid apps).
Note that the "patched" version could have been made from an earlier version, still having a repertoire of issues with S9/S9+/Note 9, and if not patched by oneself from original version, who knows what other changes have been made. I'd say it is quite unjustified to claim a software "scummy scam" on the basis of testing an unofficial version. Especially in a situation where Samsung's firmware is already known to be more than a bit messed up (not supporting this or that, some things behaving differently than expected, etc.).
I'm not saying that the current official version wouldn't have any issues, on the contrary, it even crashes at times for me (I think related to external mic stuff, but, could also be a fault in the firmware).
However, I can say that it certainly is not a "scummy scam". I did buy it, after reading plenty about it, and have since used it a bit, e.g. recording few presentations. Seems to work quite well in general. Though I dislike some of its UI design, somewhat inconvenient for certain things. And its user manual still doesn't even seem to know about Android (thus settings are listed and explained as for iPhone only).
That it has problems with Note 9 (S9/S9+) with Pie (and also some issues before Pie) seems to be caused mostly (but not only) by Samsung restricting things deliberately and providing broken camera APIs for third parties to use.
But I also think Filmic should tell more openly about issues on these phones if using Pie at the time being, instead of only mentioning "Samsung S9 and Note9: better compatibility with Android Pie.". Which, while true (better than before does not mean that it is not without serious issues), seems to be quite misleading compared to the full current state of things (and they know about that).
All in all, those who have already updated to Pie might be SOL (for the time being, at least), but mostly due to Samsung having buried its head in its own ***. It is already known what the hardware can/could do (and might be able to do even more than what is already known), and if the APIs and firmware worked correctly and without deliberate restrictions, there would be plenty of apps utilizing it all, making Samsung's own camera app look like a poor exercise.

Half side blur photo (Unable to focus)

I am not much interested in camera when i bought Mi A2, it works fine. but recently when i was taking picture, it was half side blur and i was not able to make focus on upper side of camera. i tried all modes but no use. I have Note 6 Pro and it's camera functions and focus properly.
in mi A2 I observed when in MANUAL mode i select Lens as LOW LIGHT, it works (but in manual mode only).
do any one has some solution or give reason to behave camera like this.
Same here
It was a February patch bug and it seems to persist in March patch... Xiaomi.

This is a hardware problem, I also had this, give the phone a guarantee.
P.S. sorry for english(
How so we both have exactly the same problem and mine started with pie?
Looks like this is a hardware issue, I'm having the same problem after 4 months of use.
Same here, I also took it to guarantee and they told me it was a software problem, but when they gave it back to me nothing had changed. Camera still not working

I had ordered it from this website but I had paid the cheapest shipping, I'm from Mexico so it will take a while to arrive to my country.. maybe next month..
I had the same problem and replaced the camera module with a new one, and the problem was fixed... temporarily because 3 months after it started happening again with the new camera, so either I am super unlucky, or it must be some other defect in the phone that tends to breaks the primaey cameras...
At this point I don't think I am going to replace it again. Do you know of any way of recording videos with the low light camera?
I have the same issue. In fact this issue persists in the video mode as well. Its okay for videos of objects nearby but move even a few metres away and it becomes very difficult to focus. I was at this concert and wanted to record the performance but only got a very blurry video with muffled sound. For photos this issue is especially an inconvenience when taking photographs of documents etc where you could very well do without the unnecessary bokeh effect. In MANUAL mode this does reduce a bit, but not to any extent that helps.
I was just told by a friend that installing the Google camera mod might help, but I'm yet to try it out.
I have same problem with upper side blur. Seems that switching to "manual" mode and change "lens" from "regular" to "low light", as said by the original user. It works fine with me. Thanks for the tips ! ........ so it is not the hardware problem, it is a software problem. Changing camera may not work ! Don't know if they are going to release new firmware to solve it or not ?? Any idea how to upgrade the firmware ?

If it is a hardware problem I do not see why it would prevent using the secondary camera, it can be a problem with the lenses (Have you thrown or hit your phone?) and not with the module. There are those who have returned to Oreo and the problem persists.

Pie update - OIS stabiliser

Hi.
Updated my phone to android pie via Hicare.
Now I have problem with camera.
I don't have stabiliser option in video settings anymore. No matter what resolution I choose.
There is no stabiliser option in settings.
Is this normal?
Video is shaking as hell...
I also did factory reset (full wipe) after pie update. Nothing helps.
Is stabiliser option missing on pie update or what?
Thanks.
I have the same problem.
Yesterday I shot a video and it was awful because the image was shaking all the time.
That didn't happen to me with Oreo.
Do you have option stabiliser in camera settings? For me it's missing.
Tried every option. Even factory reset.
Nothing. Now video recording is awful.
No, I haven't found that option in adjustments, although I don't remember if it was in Oreo.
It did work before and it doesn't now.
Edit: I think I've already found where the OIS setting is: I think it's the icon named "nivel de belleza" (in Spanish) maybe named "beauty level" in English.
I've done some quick tests and it looks like the image stabilizes as the "beauty level" increases.
Strange... But if I don't want to use beauty level? Stupid.
I will roll back to oreo and check if stabiliser is available option in settings.

And another problem, if we use the beauty levels (stabilizer) the highest quality must be 720p.
I will report it to Huawei. I want full HD with OIS like before.
Hi, my gf did the update to emui 9 on her p10 and has the exact same problem with stabilisation. Or should I say, with the non-stabilisation...Option has been removed and it's now not possible to make videos without shaking. I also have a p10 but still emui 8 and the option for stabilisation is here. And when we compare both results there is no way emui 9 has a big problem. Hope Huawei will make an update to fix this asap.
I've heard that on p20 and p30 (and probably all other new cellphones from Huawei), the AI manage automatically the stabilisation with NPU. Well it's fine, but the problem is that on our p10 that chip simply doesn't exist so what to expect..
I had just reported this issue via the Live Chat function in HiCare. The support agent told me that he will highlight the issue to the relevant department from his end. Hopefully we will get an update to fix this.
I also talked to the french hotline yesterday and I got an email few hours later saying I must do a factory reset and if it doesn't work to send my cellphone back to garantie...
I think they just don't know.
I talked about Kirin 960 and 970 and the guy at the hotline was impressed about how much I know about cellphones...please.
Hope your hotline is smarter than mine and they will fix it with an update.
@Hawkblesker
They dont know. I did factory reset after updating to 9.0 and its the same.
Now i will rollback to Oreo just to confirm that OIS setting is available in Android Oreo and not in Pie.
Also will contact Huawei support in my country.
Edit:
rolled back to android 8 and OIS stabiliser option is in camera as normal and it works. On android 9 this option is missing and its not working...
I have contacted them to report the issue and they say me that they are not aware of this incident.
He has asked me to restore the app camera, which has not solved anything as I already knew, and also wanted me to restore the phone, which I refused because I know that is not the solution.
I think it's important that we all report the problem to Huawei so they can do something about it.
It is unacceptable that an update causes the mobile to lose performance.
Please, let's make noise so they can fix it.
Regards.
I have sent email hour back to huuawei support about this problem.
Waiting for reply.
I will most likely replace my phone with other brand. Samsung maybe. Not sure. Was looking at S10e but is expensive. Other option is P20 pro. Not sure about Huawei.
Maybe Xiaomi. But camera is important for me so not so sure...
On french hotline and after 3 emails explaining everything slowly and clearly they continue to tell me to send my cellphone for reparation..
Got email today from them.
They told me that stabilisation should be automatically enabled in android 9.
That is not true. Stabilisation does not work on android 9.
They dont know nothing...
Some news from Huawei support...
For now only solution is to turn on beauty mode. They will hopefully fix this in next update.
Hi
I am from Croatia and few days a go i have also reported the problem with stabilisation. I also told them about the beauty mode thing. But what i noticed is that when the beauty mode is on resolution is set to 720p so i have tried other resolutions too. To be more specific i did try [email protected] and 4k and on both stabilisation works. Video stabilisation is not working only on default resolution. I think is [email protected]

but in [email protected] and 4K there is autofocus issue. Its hell slow refocusing when you move with the camera. And the problem is not, that there is no OIS in 720p and 1080p. The problem is the functionality of OIS. the video is shaky even if I capture it with tripod.
Autofocus in Emui 9 now is worse then it was before in Emui 8. As you said, it is slow. But not just in [email protected] and 4k. It is same on any resolution. At least on my phone. I know it is annoiyng, but at least stabilisation works. That is more important to me. But Huawei ****ed up big time.
And video on default resolution it's so shaky like stabilisation it's not turned on at all.
same situation here!
Has anyone found a solution?
Video is pretty stable for me, but should it really be possible to disable/enable OIS on the software side? I thought OIS was a physical mechanism in the lense. I know that on an iPhone you have to put a little magnet on the opposite side of where the camera is to actually lock the OIS mechanism.
Edit: OK I can confirm that stabilization does not work for [email protected] fps. This makes me wonder, does the P10 really have true OIS or was it just another example of Huawei's false marketing?

Question MiUi13 - 5x Camera Stability Problem

Has anyone noticed horrible stabilization for the 5x sensor with the new camera app that comes with the 13 update? Used to be able to turn the digital stabilization on or off (when on it caused some weird jitter, but at least the footage was usable and stable). Now, there is no option and the video shot through it is always extremely unstable even when sitting down holding the phone with both hands while remaining as still as possible to the point of beeing useless. Specially at 15x zoom (sample footage included). Anyone else got this issue?
Also noticed that they added an option for HDR10+ shooting and automatic low light framerate adjustment that is not switchable. Anyone know why?
EDIT - Here is the sample footage:
for some reason I got multiple errors uploading video attachments to this forum...
Firstly, I have non of the issues you have mentioned above. I am on MIUI13 SKAMIXM and the app works flawlessly. The only issue I have is video recording gives me only up to x6
Regarding hdr10+ you can turn it on only on 4k and 8k. Not below that.
Okay now I understand, every zoom I start with gives me multiple zoom options. If I start with X5 I can go up to x6.
Either way, works flawlessly

Ok. You mind uploading a sample video in a reply please? Btw if you switch to 1080p 30fps you get the option to go from .5 all the way to 15x in one slider. If you don't mind try shooting from 1x to 15x.

Thank you very much. I've installed your camera app and unfortunately the problem persists... the 5x video footage is basically unsusable. I'm afraid that my optical stabilization for this lens is broken and I'll need to return the phone for service, fortunately it's still covered by warranty... This is a huge bummer since they make you format everything on the phone for security reasons.

Hi Mate,
i'd suggest before sending it off for warranty to install GCAM and try it out one more time.
is your ROM official? or is it the BETA version?
Also, I've learned that controlling camera in general is not limited to camera app, also the software of the device control's most of it and the app is just triggering the software to activate and do the algorithm of image processing. it could not be a hardware. (while I agree with you that most likely it is). but i'd try every possible solution before losing device for a few weeks or months if you are unlucky.
Also, note that seems like EU version of MIUI13 rom seems buggy, a few issues have been mentioned here and there that are not in the global version SKAMIXM.
I use miui13 EU ROM and have no issues at all.

Yes I use the official update as provided with the phone updater. I also have a gcam installed and the problem persists there too (sample provided in this reply). I think I've done all the testing required to conclude that there is actually a problem with the stabilization. I'll have to service it unfortunately . Maybe ask for a battery change since it dropped to about 4500mpa over the last few months with all the fast charging and the extremely fast discharging (cough cough). Thank you for your time, I'm really grateful for the tips.
