Every time I notice if I bring the volume down to vibrate only with DND enabled...it for some reason increases the volume to low from vibrate on its own. I always have to change it. It happens during random times of the day without me knowing. I even tried going to the sound settings to enable the volume rocker to only affect the media volume just to make sure it's not me. Still didn't work. Can anyone tell me what may be causing this strange issue?
EDIT: I'm sorry but ignore this thread. I found the culprit...the cause was my Bixby Home Routine. I completely forgot all about it and how I set it up to enable sound when I'm home and connected to my wifi.

I tried to set the volume on the title bar of the today menu to something other than the lowest volume (nothing). I close it, then reopen it, the indicator resets it to the lowest volume.
Has anyone seen this before? I've tried searching but found mostly bluetooth volume isssues.
Yep, BT will do it if you have the volume off when your turn BT on. Also, if you have HTC Home make sure that in the profiles tab it's not set to silent or vibrate.
It turns out to be some weird feature. If I tap on the speaker image part, it will make the phone silent. If I tap on the sound part, the 3 lines to the right of the speaker image part, it will turn on sound. I didn't even know I had that feature.
I'm having this exact problem with my Mogul. I tried tapping on the "sound lines" like you said to fix it but that doesn't do anything. I'm stuck.
Ive noticed since I got my X on Monday that randomly my notification/ringer won't make any sounds. Even if I have it set to the loudest possible setting. When I choose the volume thru the volume buttons the sound when raising or lowering doesnt always work either. I have all the settings correct to make sounds. Could this be a Lollipop thing, or is it my X? Has anyone else had this happen?
Yeah, it's been happening with my device aswell.. no idea what could be the reason, either the Lollipop update or some conflicts with moto apps perhaps? Wish I could fix it.
Bumping this in case someone finds a solution!
I found that if I use the volume buttons to change volumes it goes silent. So I just adjust the volume in the settings/sound to change volume.
I've noticed that the volume takes a step down in certain apps and situations, for instance: whenever I get a notification from whatsapp with the screen both on/off, the volume is rock solid.. but whenever a notification comes through facebook messenger with screen off, the volume is ABSOLUTELY low; meanwhile, with the screen on the volume is fine with both of them. SMS, Youtube and Email notifications are fine aswell (for now).
EDIT: well, it happens randomly even when ringing from a phone call even after adjusting from the settings and not the volume rockers. Gosh, Moto should fix this one asap.
If we had a LED I wouldn't care. I have to keep turning my screen on to see if I have a text msg
Anybody know how to stop the phone from making that annoying noise (more annoying for my sleeping wife) that occurs when connecting a charger?
On my Z3C I used the Smart Connect app to mute the media volume in the evening that dealt with most things. But Smart Connect doesn't work (just crashes a lot) on the XZ1c and even if it did, the battery charging volume now seems to be linked to the ringer volume. So if you put it to vibrate the damn phone vibrates when you connect it up.
The only way I can see currently is to put the phone into complete silent mode, but that's no good as I still want to receive calls!
Well I asked Sony and they said you can no longer disable the charging noise. I guess their marketing department liked it. I've asked if it's functionality that can be reintroduced in the future, but I can't see that getting past their helpdesk.
Really rather annoying when I sneak in late at night to get "BING BING" when I plug my phone in.
A workaround is to mute the media volume.
I use an app called Media-mute to mute the media volume whenever the ringer is also muted. So whenever you need it to shut up, just mute your phone.
If you want it automated similar to what you did with Smart Connect, you can configure Android's Do-Not-Disturb feature to automatically kick in at night, which is what I currently do.
Alternatively, you can also try this other app that I use (Silent Mode Toggle) to create a widget on the homescreen for easy access and quickly toggle between modes.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: Thanks @Dashers below for pointing out that the charge sound effect is now tied to the ringer volume instead of the media volume as it had been in the past, I have tested and can confirm it.
The original text above without strike-through still holds true, so I'll leave it here.
It seems that it's not linked to media volume any more, but ringer volume. As if you put the ringer volume down, the phone will vibrate when you plug it in to charging. The only way to connect it up silently is to put the phone to alarms only or total silence.
I raised it with Sony and their response was basically "tough, that's how we do it now".
I'm running COS 6.1 A.10 on my unrooted/unlocked European X2 Pro.
When I press the physical volume buttons, I very often don't see the sound control popup. Sometimes it appears and I can change the volume, but in most cases it doesn't appear at all. It doesn't make a difference which app I'm using - YouTube, Prime Video. I don't have an active BT device linked or a headset plugged in either. Quiet Time is turned off, all volumes in Sound & Vibration are turned to medium, the default function for volume buttons is set to Media Volume although nothing changes if it's set to Media Volume.
I used to have MacroDroid to change sound settings based on time/location/events but that's uninstalled. I still have Do Not Disturb which mutes my phone during calendar events. Regardless of any such apps, I should still be able to use the volume buttons to adjust the volume but there are no popups most of the time.
I just restarted my phone and the volume popup is back. I know this happened before but after a while it's gone again without knowing why. Does anyone have an idea what could be the reason and how I can get my volume popup back permanently? Thanks for your help.
I have very important problem because I am feeling a lot of embarrassment from people. My phone ringer goes down and the volum gets low and then I didn't able to hear the ringtone and I always missed very important calls. Is there any solution to this problem or is there any way that to ringtone volume never goes down even I turn down the media button. Please help it has causes me a lot of loss and embarrassment.
Is the volume setting for ringtones low? or is it the volume of the ringtone itself?
In the latter case you may choose another ringtone. in the first case: Does the setting change when the ringtone rings or during a call. Can you reproduce the problem? What steps are needed?
on some phones there is a quick setting for the ringtone mode. you may remove it if you happen to change the setting by accident.
