Hi.
Been reading on this forum about android auto.
My main reason for rooting is to get aa mirroring.
With all the post out there about this i need help to clarify somethings:
I have the latest play store version.
I have huawei mate 20 pro with root. (9.0.0.208 stock, with root)
I have a brand new kenwood dnx7018dab with support for android auto.
Now the main question:
1. What apps do i need to get mirroring?
I have installed whats seems to be the latest aamirror.apk.
I have installed aaunlock.apk and aa phenotype patcher.
I get the extra icon down in my right corner of android auto screen in my headunit, but no aamirror option.
My goal is to get Netflix, DreamTV, Snapchat, firefox, youtube and other 3 party apps up on my headunit. (Aftermarket Kenwood)
Can anyone help me with what apps i need? Do not think i need/want carstream..
Sorry for the input if the answer is already present in this forum.
My android auto version is 4.1 xxxx

Kenneth - Norway

I have installed the Android Auto app on a Carjoying radio and despite the fact that in the Google playstore it says that my device is not compatible, it works without problems. I am using Android Auto as launcher (through some other app which lets you define any app as launcher). My problem however is that not all the apps that I like to use have been designed/adapted for Android Auto. Question: Is there a way where I can lauch non Android Auto apps from Android Auto or can I only use the build in apps?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Kurt
Android Auto only works with specific types of apps (and only those that have enabled the integration), namely messaging apps and music/audio apps.

Android Auto isn't designed to be a launcher or to work like that.
You're best best is to try AutoMate from the app store instead. It will give you the same look but works with lots of other apps.

Hey everyone,
i am having kind of strange issues with Android Auto since the latest Security Patch 06/19 of Android Pie. My Radio is a PX5 MTCE Android 8.0 Oreo with Hal9K mod. In combination with the Pumkin SA052 Dongle and the AutoPlayBox .apk (newest version), im am using Android Auto in my car. Through hal9k and the AutoPlayBox app i was able to remap my steering wheel buttons, so i could launch Google Assistant or answer to calls.
But since the latest Patch of Android, my Smartphone (Oneplus 6, newest Update) doesnt react anymore to my steering wheel buttons INSIDE the AutoPlayBox apk. I tested a couple of things:
1.) An other android smartphone (same software patch Xiaomi Mi A2) --> same issue
2.) USB Debugging Mode --> same issue
3.) An Iphone 7 (so its CarPlay. but i dont know the IOS version anymore) --> !!WORKED FINE!!
4.) Playing music through bluetooth NOT INSIDE AutoPlayBox apk --> I am able to skip songs with steering wheel buttons, so Buttons are working and bluetooth are working
5.) Get latest AutoPlayBox update and a new Pumpkin Dongle --> same issue
Before the update everything works perfectly fine. So the problem might be in the USB-Connection and the sercurity patch ? Has android make any changes, so that third Party apps have no access through USB ? Does anyone have same issues and a way to fix this ? Maybe a root and give the permissions manually ? It must be a Problem with Android, cause the Iphone and the steering wheel buttons are working.
Maybe someone could help me, give me a tip or a link to a similar thread.
Thank you for your help
Best wishes
René
Hi René
I have exactely the same issues. I have dasaita max6. Its a px6 with android 9. Until 05.2019 version was everything fine android auto and carplay both worked with steering wheel control. After june update android auto does not work with steering wheel contorl anymore, but carplay does. I even downgraded to 05.2019 but still it doesnt work anymore. ( I actually reverted to version 05.2019 because in version 06.2019 they have disabled split screen mode.) I have carlinkit by carlinke dongle, it also works with AutoPlayBox.apk. I have also the latest img and apk versions downloaded from here: http://112.74.112.110/download.
I am also very curious why this is happening.
What i can recommend you is to buy headunit reloaded app in play store, then download xda labs app (https://www.xda-developers.com/xda-labs/) and search for headunit relaoded in xda labs app and choose beta and download the latest beta version 4.6beta4, its the best version available. You need to have HUR already installed form play store to be able to do it.
This app will enable android auto without the dongle on your android headunit via cable and also via wifi, works preatty well.

Hey matrixx1,
thank you very much for your answer! Good to hear that i am not the only one with this, seems like a real problem. I am not at home this weekend but i will try this on monday and let you know if it works. Maybe someone else got this problem. I also wrote a mail to the support of Pumpkin, if they have a solution, i will communicate this.
Have a nice weekend
Hey,
i had time to test the headunit reloaded app and its working pretty fine thank you Only problem is google assistant which react to "OK Google" but then doing no operation, but i just had a quick view to it. Maybe i have to invest a little bit of extra time.
Thank you very much for your help and your tip
Like the title says. Google must have implemented something in the new Android auto update, the one with the new UI. I've been using AA Mirror to cast my phone's screen to my 2016 Sierra for a while now with no issues. But just got the latest update with the new UI. When you use the AA Unlock .apk to unlock the feature it disabled the ability to even use Android auto on your vehicles head unit. If you already have Android Auto open on your radio you will lose the ability to operate android auto from the screen. The default android auto home screen will still remain on your radio but none of the touch functions of the screen will work. If you don't have it open before you use the AA Unlock .apk to use that feature, then Everytime you click on on the Android auto icon on your radio it ignores android auto completely on the radio but opens the phone version on your phone.
This sucks. I like having FOX news in the mornings on the ride to work.
Uhm, I don't know if you're aware of AA Phenotype Patcher. AA Unlock stopped working a while ago. You should use Phenotype Patcher. It works just fine for unlocking 3rd party apps. I'm actually impressed on how much time you had apps unlocked with AA Unlock, actually, cause after a while apps would just disappear.
I would also re-install Android Auto and wipe cache of Google Play Services before proceeding.
Same issue. Just tried AA Mirror and AA Phenotype Patcher yesterday (latest versions). No way to have them work...
:/
I am using as mirror and pheontype patcher and the sept 3 android auto everything works just fine but did work better a bit before the head unit got updated not sure how to roll back a head unit. My truck is a 2019 Chevy zr2 Colorado.
Guys, I've a rooted Moto Z2 force, I'm plannig to use it as an android auto device only. AA is not available in the play store, but I can sidelode any version (I've downloaded the 7.2.62).
I'm tried a couple of tools, AA Tweaker, AA installer, etc, but so far only the cartube application is showing in the car screen (but e.g. fermata auto is not)
I'm planning to use the some official AA applications
- spotify, gmaps, waze, abetterrouteplanner
and would like to have
-youtube, netflix and maybe carscanner on the car screen (in motion as well for the passengers)
Please share you working setup, which tools and which versions (including android auto) are you using with android 9 - or point me to a thread where it is already discussed
Hi.
I have a non root samsung note 9(android 9) with wireless AA set up to aftermarket smart module connected to OEM headunit in my peugeot. Uninstalled AA. Installed screen2auto with AA Ease. Downloaded and installed AA 6.6xxxx version. Activated developer options and selected download from unknown sources. Playstore forced update on my phone to latest version 7.1xxxx but kept original settings and third party apps. Enabled wireless projections on settings and this works quite well provided bluetooth pairing. So can use voice control to for maps, music apps and receive and send messages.

Thank you very much, the android version was the problem I've installed AA version 6.9.613744 (instead of the latest 7.*) and everything started working instantly.
Sorry to bring this topic up again, the solution works for me for a few days, than AA is not showing the extra apps anymore. If I uninstall and install android auto again, it works again for a few days. I have no idea why, is there a blacklist AA downloads?

My samsung note 9 is non root. I installed as described above and still have apps on galaxy note 8(android 9) and note 9 ( recently updated to android 10). You can try clearing cache of AA. But you should read through screen2auto rooted thread as you will probably find solution and/or somebody will offer good solution.

Yes, Google blocked again all 3rd party apps with Android Auto 7.1.
With 7.1 I have the 3rd party apps for about 2 minutes. If I don't start Android Auto in this time, I have to clear data and cache of Google Play Services and Android Auto and do all the setup again. That means I have to do this before every car ride.
Hello all.
If I look on the internet for "Android auto alternative" then I get apps for on phone itselves, that use phone screen.
For unrooted android smartphone.
I want to know if their is a (prefer open source like f-droid apps) real alternative for android auto, that shows apps on the car entertainment system (in my case a Subaru from 2020).
I don't want android auto because:
- I need to install google apps, but I removed as much google and huawei apps as possible on my huawei mate 20x 5G.
- google decide what apps are accesssable/supported by android auto.
-with every android auto app update it is fingers crossed if the used apps are still available (for example Signal app suddenly gone from car screen).
So what none google app can I use to get my phone screen on my car multimedia system that supports android auto.
You can try MirrorLink if supported. But there is no other alternative as far as I know.
Unfortunately.
