Hi,
I had a bootloader locked mi a2 stuck in a bootloop so I took it apart put it into EDL mode and flashed stock images via MiFlash tool using the 'save user data' option. Now it boots and it asked for the previous lock pattern but it did not restore any data. Is all hope and data lost or am I missing something?
I really don't understand where is all the data gone if the data partition was not flashed. Its my gfs phone she had tones of photos on it, it would be amazing if somehow it could be restored.
In these process sometimes device reset itself and erase all internal data as edl is not a normal mode for flashing (May be i am wrong) .

If so, then why did it ask for the previous pass code at start up? I am really confused by this whole thing.

Because it has been hard rest intentionally or un intentionally , according to android security you have to enter your last pattern , your email last sync and it is necessary even if you flash in edl using test points , you have to enter your last credentials and pattern or pin etc.
Don't be confuse , it normal Security Pass.

Huh, okay so it is not to restore the data partition, it is just to confirm the owner of the device. Thanks for the info.

BTW you need to take backup of your internal data files if you need to flash stock or custom rom becouse thats mi a2 even with the official updates this phone can get bootloop.
i recomendeding you the use fastboot not MiFlash becouse you can control all the things happenin on flashing.
here is the ota flasher batch file without *fastboot erase ddr* command i have deleted it becouse if there is fastboot erase ddr command this will earse all the things on your phone
if you want to try this method:
1 install adb drivers
2 extract all image files to the same folder with OTAFlasher.bat
3 open CMD and type fastboot devices on fastboot mode (or adb devices reboot bootloader for enter fastboot mode)
4 if everything looks correct just type *OTAFlasher.bat* then press enter
this will take 30 mins to finish after that everything will be okay
have good day

Is it possible to flash the official ROM in fastboot with a locked bootloader? I also can't enbale usb debugging since the phone is in a bootloop.
Nope u need to unlock bootloader first
I assume that it's impossible to save the user data if the bootloader is locked in the case of a Mi A2 device? My Mi A2 randomly shut itself down and now it won't boot into Android anymore. I get the error "Can't load Android system. Your data may be corrupt. ..., TRY AGAIN or FACTORY DATA RESET". I didn't want to reset my phone before searching for a possible solution that would restore my user data. In the meantime I bought a replacement phone, on this phone I noticed that Google Photos did not backup any photos I took with my Mi A2 in the last 30 days. That's why it's so important to me to restore the user data, I just don't want to lose these photos. But I assume that there is no such solution that can achieve this with a locked bootloader right?

İn the fastboot mode u can access to the your internal storage. You need to do factory reset for fix the phone
So you're saying that I can restore the files by booting into fastboot and connecting the phone to the pc over usb right? Do I need any commands for this, or will it be recognized as external storage by Windows? The phone doesn't have USB-debugging enabled and isn't unlocked.

Yeah, that's the thing, I was hoping there was a way to at least restore the pictures on the phone because Google Photos did not backup my pictures for a month. But I guess there is just no way to restore those, not even with the EDL mode Time to reset the phone and move on then I guess.
Thank you for your time!

I will appreciate any help, and will give reward once i'll get my data back.

If you have unlocked bootloader then TWRP should be able to mount /data so you could copy it to your pc using adb.

Flashing TWRP will require bootloader unlock which wipes your data.
You can boot in twrp without install
Fastboot boot twrp-2.xxxx.img
Then you can use adb to pull files.

Hi,
so i got a situation here that xiaomi mi a2 (6x) out of nowhere rebooted to factory recovery with message "cant load android system. your data may be corrupt. If you continue to get this message you may need to perform factory reset deleting all data stored on this device"
Now after turning it off and on, it shows black screen "failed to boot" with option to power off or restart.
When restarting it goes to factory recovery again with that message and option to factory reset or try again (restart)
Now i cant perform factory reset before backing up the data, but i cant find the way to backup.
There is no custom recovery to download files from phone. When tried to flash custom recovery found out i cant because bootloader locked. And when found the way (dont know i it works) to unlock it without loosing data - cant do even that because developer options must be enabled to allow unlocking and debugging, so i get message in adb console FAILED (remote: Flashing Unlock is not allowed.
Is there any other way to keep the data before doing factory reset ?
Maybe try to flash with miflash keeping the data

unfortunately miflash cant do anything with locked bootloader as well. Just when starts to flash, gets error with bluetoth_a.
After research i noticed that miflash does nothing special at all just automated flash commands. In rom directory you can find flashing .bat files and run them in adb console.
When did that got all the data log, that bluetooth a is the first file that is tried to flash and stuck on locked bootloader.
Hello. Did you manage to solve your problem?
I have the same saituation.
Hi, unfortunately the only way i found is EDL mode.
https://youtu.be/i3OU4DOd7aY
When you keep those pins shorted, plug usb to your pc, and then , simply said, pc sees it as another device that can be flashed with everything locked.
So i flashed with miflash with keeping files option, but all that was saved is locking pattern. All media files lost.
Anyway, now i rooted and installed custom recovery to avoid any incident like this.

My phone suddenly stuck at this screen since may :
Android Recovery
Xiaomi/jasmine/jasmine_sprout
9/PKQ1.180904.001/V10.0.9.0.PDIMIXM
user/release-keys
Use volume up/down and power.
Can't load Android system. Your data may be corrupt. If you continue to get this message, you may need to perform a factory data reset and erase all user data store on this device.
- Try again
- Factory data reset
If i press try again, sometime it will go to fastboot screen.
I can go into recovery mode here but i not sure which step i should do next.
Reboot system nowreboot to bootloader
apply update from ADB
apply update from sd CARD
wipe data/factory reset
Mount/sstem
view recovery logs
run graphics test
run locale test
power off
I'm not a very tech savvy person, i would really appreciate some help as i have data inside my phone which i need. So if possible i would like to retain the data.
I tried like EDL,fastboot, and flashing none seem to work. Of course I may be doing it wrong.
Can anyone guide me step by step I be happy to give an reward via paypal.

Nope, but I can do EDL to unlock bootloader, I already disassemble the device a few times.
Just that every time I try to flash it , it give me some error. like Bluetooth error or the version error .
Which I watch thousand of video to work but it's doesn't help. Or maybe I just watched the wrong video
Ok tell me exactly what are you doing and where you have downloaded the rom.
If it's corrupted and you try to flash it you will lose the data... Was debug USB activated on developer settings?
My device died too. After the October update, he never came back. It is looped on the home screen written "Android One".
I've tried several tutorials, it accesses the FastBoot screen, but when trying to use MI Flash appears a Bluetooth error and does not proceed.
I've tried using the adb flashing unlock_critical command, but it fails too.
He didn't have the bootloader unlocked, I now have a large paperweight.:crying:

Hey everybody
My friend gave me his Mi 9t Pro to repair it as he bricked it accidentally and he knew I had experience with changing ROMs and recoveries.
From what I know, what he did is tried to change dpi and then phone jumped into bootloop.
Let me just state that:
- bootloader is locked
- there is no custom recovery
- I have no authorization for ADB
I am stuck and would be really thankful for any ideas. Wiping data is not an option at the moment as we want to recover data from the phone.
Dropping battery to 0% and then charging didn't work.
Adb is only possible at the very short moment phone gets into boot animation, but as I have no authorization I can't pull files from it.
For whatever I tried ADB sideload when connected with Mi Assistant in recovery didn't help me neither.
If you have any ideas please share them with me, I'll appreciate that a lot

I can't see any way you're going to keep the data. Recovering the phone is going to wipe everything. Without an unlocked bootloader I can't see any way your going to be able to access the data first before restoring the phone.
As far as restoring the phone, if you can access the official recovery, then you should, hopefully, be able to flash an official recovery ROM from there, or so I believe, I've never actually tried it.
If that fails, then you will need to EDL flash the phone.
This involves taking off the back to put the phone in EDL mode, then paying someone, who has an authorised account, to remotely flash the phone for you.

Yeah, that's kinda hard situation :/
I can't really flash recovery ROM, cause official recovery has no option for that and adb sideload didn't want to install 'update.zip'. just rebooted the phone and that's all.
I've seen that it's actually possible to put device into EDL without having to disassemble the phone, but fastboot command just reboots the phone.
Thanks for answering either way

Because not possible if your bootloader was locked to enter EDL mode, then AFAIK you need Mi Account with authorization to flashing with EDL mode.

ADB sideload needs the phone to be put into ADB sideload mode first, so to speak. This is why you have the ADB sideload option in TWRP. You don't have this option in the standard recovery.

In this case your only option now is to EDL flash. Sorry. Search for guides on how to do this, within these forums. XDA admins have been removing contact details of anyone with an authorised account, who will remotely flash for you. These people charge for doing this, so it's against XDA policy to give details of people who perform paid for services. You will find recent posts from people who've got details of these people who can EDL flash, that will kindly allow you too PM them for details of such persons.

But now due to complicated case, the device is showing your system has been destroyed and when i try to force reboot it into fastboot, it still give systen destroyed error(means fastboot mode is inaccessible). Can anyone please help me to fix this issue without using edl pins? I am in a great issue

You need to see the PM I've sent to you. You will find it here.
Start from BROM mode - that is always available. Then you can use mtktool to restore everything. I have an article about it on my blog, but I am not supposed to post it here... find it in my profile, or send me a PM for help.
