Google installer isn't working on the current chinese miui version - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

just picked up a chinese Mi 9 version. I just found out the hard way that xiaomi no longer supports flashing the global ROM to the chinese version. Bue when I went to install google play, I ran into a hicup. The google installer app errors. it installs the first two frameworks just fine, but it errors on the 3rd. Google Play Services apparently is already installed and at a more recent version.
I manually downloaded a google play apk and got that running ok, but does anyone know what the last apks the installer would be installing are?

Mi9 has google framework preinstalled.
All you need to do is enable it in Settings and install Play Store apk.

I've also just had a problem with this. I bought a new Chinese Mi 10 lite zoom about two weeks ago, spent some time figuring out how to install google play, got it to work, but since it updated a few days ago to the MIUI 12.1.3Stable version, play has since stopped working. I tried the google installer app and have the same problem: it errors on the 3rd and I get a message saying there was a problem parsing the package....
I'm not a developer or really much of a computer guy (but have made it this far!), any help to solve this issue would be appreciated

Google Play Services Has stopped -- i'm becoming crazy

Hi
Samsung galaxy tab 8.9 P7300
I was working with a 4.44 rom and some days ago began popping up of "google play services has stopped".
I tried all procedure find on internet (clear cache/data of google play service, framework, google play...)
I reinstalled the rom 4.44 and tried new rom 7.1 with opengapps (nano/pico) with this sequence:
From twrp
clear data/system/cache/dalvik
Install rom+gapps
clear cache dalvik
reboot
and
SAME PROBLEM!
google play service version
10.2.98 430
help!
EDIT:
My workaround
Rom Android 7.1.1
Opengapps ver. 20170119 version (Google Play service ver. 10.0.84)
After automatic update, "disable" Google Play service and, automatically, restore ver. 10.0.84)
Disable system update on developer menù (waiting Google fix... hope)
Hi derekz2,
I spent the whole day yesterday dealing with the same issue as you do, but so far no luck, until now I have not been able to get it working. I tried Android versions 5.1.1, 6.0, 7.1.1 (different ROMs), but all of them have the same issue with Google Play services. I tried more gapps I found here, not just opengapps, but also some others that were meant to be used with that ROM (according to ROM's authors), but again, nothing helped. I also followed many suggestions I found online, still nothing. Recently I tried not to install gapps from recovery, I tried to download Google Play services from the web (I tried also older version 10.2.97) and install it manually, but the problem is still there. It seems that Google Play services somehow stopped being supported by this hardware, or I do not know... I will continue my troubleshooting further, but at the moment, I am also helpless and I would like to ask anyone for a help as well...
Thanks.
The 10.2.98 updated Play Services package is not woking for KitKat (4.4.x). Remove It and reinstall the last working package - the 10.0.84 for KK. And do uncheck Autoupdate in Play Market, or Android OS will download and install the 10.2.98 again.
Shame on Google for this "work"!

I think the same thing but is strange... it seems a decision too bad.
Now I try old version of gapps and without autoupdate the tablet can live but many apps want recent version of GPS...

well, so far it seems that Google has done something in the latest GPS versions that is causing problems not just to us with this tablet, but to many different people on different platforms. Therefore, I believe/hope that Google will fix it soon... Anyway, try to check this thread, people are discussing GPS issue and trying different things to solve it. Let me know if something helps for you, I do not believe I will have time to test it myself today...
Thanks Skubko
The last Opengapps that is ok for 7.1 roms is 20170119 version (gps ver. 10.0.84), disable autoupdate and hope Google fix...

yes, I am planning to do that as a next step. For 6.0 ROM anyway, but also version 10.0.84, that should do the trick.. will see if other google application will want to work with older GPS and for how long... Also, I believe that once I connect to the internet afterwards, GPS will be automatically updated to the latest version (I do not think autoupdate option in google play will make any difference for GPS application)...
try to disable system update on developer menu of Android. (I see it on 7.1 version, don't know if present in previous versions)

Well, I do have a working tablet again, but unfortunately don't have an exact procedure documented for a fix. I found a couple different threads online where other platforms are having the same issue and it has been tracked down to the latest play services using NEON instructions that are not supported by the older Tegra platform. And, as it's been over a month now, it's not clear if it will be fixed.
The basics of getting things working are to have file manager with root access available to you without wifi. It's possible that exactly what folders need to be created in /data/app/ depends on your Android version. I am working with the latest 7.1.1 build and all instruction I saw to create a folder named com.google.android.gms-1.apk and com.google.android.gms-2.apk did not work. At least not by themselves...on my successful attempt, I created them still, but also created a folder com.google.android.gms-1 as that is where the update came down on my system...so I deleted the existed folder of that name and created an empty one. Again, I don't have an exact procedure...but I will line out some steps that might help someone...
Have working, rooted 7.1.1 install.
Download opengapps from 20170119, phh superuser apk, root file explorer apk.
Factory reset in recovery, install opengapps, wipe cache again for giggles.
Go through setup without setting up wifi, install phh, install root file explorer.
Create folder /data/app/com.google.android.gms-1...maybe the other 2 mentioned above also.
Enable wifi and continue with life. You will have to sideload older versions of some google apps. The latest Google Maps wouldn't work for me...I just searched for the last version before that magic Jan 19th date...that seems to be working fine.
Caveat to this is that this is not exactly what I did to get things working...it is what I think should work. I was actually trying to follow another post that was trying to use a system app remover app to downgrade the google play services...never could get it to work...but stumbled upon something that did work...so I'll lay out those steps...
Have working, rooted 7.1.1 install that has crashing google play services.
Disable wifi
Create the folders mentioned above in /data/app.
Go to Settings->Apps->Google Play Services->Disable. This allowed me to roll back the install of the latest Google play services.
In my case it rolled back to the very previous version..because that is the version I installed from opengapps in recovery...it might roll back to whatever was originally flashed. In that case you can find a 10.0.84 google play services apk...I could never get it to install on mine...but that might have been because I already had a newer version when I was attempting to install.
Enable wifi and possibly sideload some stuff like above...
So, for other Android versions, steps should be similar...perhaps that's when the folders ending in apk will come into play. If there was a reasonably priced >8.5" and <9.5" tablet...preferably with 16:10 aspect ratio and higher pixel density than the Galaxy Tab 8.9 I would buy it...unfortunately such a device doesn't exist. May look into a used Nexus 9...until then it appears I am at least stable again...
Thx guys for your feedback here! Got same problem, that google services stopped working and my tab is crashing nonstop... Its unusable but i think a i will update to android latest rom for next 10 years
What version of play services do I need?
10.0.84 (???
beta version of Google Play Services (version 10.5.42) have resolved the Google Play Services issues.
i have same problem here.... rom is stock based 5.1.1. and working fine, but today it start showing "google play services has stopped" every time when i turn wifi on. :/ this is my daughter "netflix-machine" and she is very sad. is there any fix for that ?
Same here, but solved (with Android N 7.1)

How I spent an afternoon
I already tried aosp-5.1.1-p5wifi-20150513 with open_gapps-arm-5.1-pico-20170324 and again with open_gapps-arm-5.1-pico-20170119 as advised here, both resulting in the same bug
Then I installed aosp-6.0-p5wifi-20160131 with open_gapps-arm-6.0-pico-20170324 over TWRP resulting in the same "google play services has stopped" every few seconds
When I fully wiped the device, reinstalled the above aosp image and added open_gapps-arm-6.0-pico-20170119 from github, I had the same *** again
Then I decided to go "all-in" and first installed a new version of TWRP from here and followed the guide to install Android N from here and installed the google apps from here and SU from phh.
And it WORKED
Yay
PS: best use adb push to send the files to the device
PS2: you need to select the keyboard first upon entering the wifi credentials
yes, i get solution for that.....i remove google play service updates and registering to beta user, then it's update beta version 10.5.48 and that's works fine now

Play Store not working on mi5 with Chinese dev MIUI 8 ROM

Hey guys.
I've been searching for quite a while but can't find a satisfying solution for this. I managed to update my fake MIUI shop rom to the official MIUI 8 dev rom. I am currently using the Chinese version as this was the only version I was able to flash as my bootloader is still locked.
I am now trying to install the Google apps. First way to try was downloading the Google installer v2 and let it run. Then I ended up in a loop where the Google apps stop responding repeatedly every some seconds. I then tried to factory reset and start from scratch. Same issue. I then updated the Google play store and play services from apk mirror. Now the error message is gone, but I still end up with an unusable play store.
It shows checking info now and is stuck at that stage. I tried emptying all cache and data. Doesn't help.
Do you guys have any idea?

I had to flash a dev china fastboot rom android 6 based .
Installed the 6 apks to enable google play services used them and updated them ... They auto update ( google playstore and google play services for sure) .
After all that was done i ota updated to miui based on android 7 and everything worked fine since the google play services were already there.
Thank you sir. That's what i did as well now. Luckily they gave me permissions to unlock the phone by now so i was able to flash the latest global rom which seems to work better with Google apps

Thats great for you BUT many of us are just not that skilled nor have we the opportunity to invest in all that is required in learning the skills for TWRP, Magisk and flashing ROMs etc.
Nothing offical from Xiaomi despite daily searches online by me...[can anyone confirm different???].
So we are frustrated and stuck with a Gapp-less Xiaomi Mi5 running MIUI 8.2.2 "stable-f*cknot!!" China ROM].

it is the same to me. and i have no idea
Hi everyone,
I bought my mi5 last year spring directly in China with Chinese stock rom. I used a frequently used Google installer from the official xiaomi app store. It worked perfectly fine until a month ago I discovered play store didn't updated itself since long time. It was stuck in "waiting for wifi". Only already installed apps could be updated. I tried allowing mobile data, clear caches and data from play store and Google play service, downloading updates manually for them both. But all in all it didn't help. Yesterday I tried force stop "google services framework" on an internet advice and that was stupid. Practically bricked play store "error retrieving data from server [RH-01]"
Atm I trying other Chinese Google installers.

hey thank you for your fast reply.
yeah that advice on the internet is common, but only solves if you wanna download via mobile data.
at the mean time i installed goplaycn. it seems to be the latest successful installer on the chinese market and looks pretty professional. It has even a deinstall google function.
here the list of the gapps version what it will download for you today:
google play services 10.2.99 (44-148249840)
google services framework 7.0
google play store 7.6.08.N-all [0] [PR] 149245622
google account manager 7.0
the new problem i got now: "stuck at checking info" same as this thread's Author.
i wanna try download all updates manually from apkmirror
Hi again,
i tried the manual updates and it didnt work. After checking goplaycn again I noticed an entry note. it says "for mi5 user who got stuck in checking info ... please enable in your google account installing less secure apps". I did it and it wouldnt work either or i misunderstood there something.
Anyway i found a pretty interesting thread on the chinese MIUI forum. The thread handles exact our problem on the same device and the thread was posted in march this year.
The solution is you have to root your phone and enable "setenforce permissive" and then use a chinese google installer.
Unfortunately it is completly in chinese http://www.miui.com/thread-7561698-1-1.html
i havent tried it myself, but apparently it has been successfully tested by many ppl. i will do it later maybe.
hi Tetrahybrid, did you ve fixed your problem? I have the same issue with my mi5 in miui 8.5.2. google store is locked at "checking info".
Problem Is From "host" File
Do It:
1.Root Via SuperSU SR5
2.Use Some Root Browser App Like Root Explorer,Or ES File Explorer
3.Go To /system/etc/host Delete "host"
4.Reboot
Your Problem Is Fixed Now!

Working fine on mine too.
Try restarting the phone.
The day I bought the phone, and downloaded PUBG, its downloading went into loop, it completed and then started again and again. I cancelled the download and next day, when I tried to install it, it installed normally. I think this is a bug may be in play store or something else.

Few questions for K20 Pro owners

Hi. After a quick search i couldn't find specific answers to my questions so i thought i'll ask here. Note that i'm not interested in flashing any other ROM on it, i want to keep it locked bootloader, on china rom only.
As i have seen on various YT videos, once i get the phone china ROM with locked bootloader, i need to install play store from the xiaomi app store. I see many people get random errors when they try to install, "can't downgrade apps".
1. I've seen workarounds to restore phone to factory settings or clearing something in settings and retrying. Can this just stop working one day?
2. Once i've installed play store, will the device be play store certified?
3. Say i update system software to MIUI 11, can play store just bug out, making me factory reset phone and redo the process again?
4. Will play store auto update itself, or can i update it from play store settings?
5. Will NFC work on china rom locked bootlader in Europe? Moreover, will banking apps allow me to install their apps, considering device may not be play store certified or just not compatible with china rom?
Thank you all for reading.

if unsure better to ask seller to install playstore for you before purchasing the phone , mine came with playstore preinstall , yes its certified , mpt yet received miui 11 update yet , cant advise , i think mine playstore was self updated , i have not used the nfc feature yet .
1. I've seen workarounds to restore phone to factory settings or clearing something in settings and retrying. Can this just stop working one day?
If you reset your phone, it will also delete playstore and googleplay and services apps.
2. Once i've installed play store, will the device be play store certified?
I hope so, if it isn't certified then you have to register your phone to google (Playstore) for certification. https://www.google.com/android/uncertified/ More here: https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-fix-device-not-certified-by-google-error/
3. Say i update system software to MIUI 11, can play store just bug out, making me factory reset phone and redo the process again?
Yes, afaik you will have to install Playstore and other googleplay supporting apps again after OS updates.
4. Will play store auto update itself, or can i update it from play store settings?
Yes, it will auto update.
5. Will NFC work ...
Yes.

Question Is it possible to install Google services on CHINESE variant?

So the Magic3 series is already available on sites like giztop, however in the description it always says "No Google play services". What does this mean exactly? From my experience, Chinese models of phones like Oppo or Vivo DO have GMS pre-installed, you just have to install the Play Store apk... No idea if it's the same with Honor here. I don't want to order the Magic3 Pro just to find out it's like a Huawei phone with no possibility of sideloading Google play services.
Does anyone know more on this subject? Thanks.
There is no GMS pre-installed on the Honor Magic 3 series. I've tried many different ways of installing GMS with HW account, Googlfier, manual framework installation, also Ourplay virtual space apps (even this doesn't work as it indicates phone does not have Google Device ID registered), and none works. One main reason that the manual installation of the framework apps don't work is that when all apps have been installed and needs to process the steps to uninstall Google Play Services to be able to install another version, there is no UNINSTALL button in the Apps page (only DISABLE & FORCE STOP) unlike Huawei Mate 40 series where this works. As of now, I haven't found a working process for the installation. For your reference.

Btw, from my experience, Huawei Mate 40 EMUI11 can have working GMS installed but the process is just a bit tedious. But at least it works, Honor on the other hand has (from current available sideload installation workarounds) does not have any way to install GMS... yet.
I don't have the device yet, but I will order it. It's cheaper in Asia, so I don't want to spend the 1500 euros. Unfortunately, I don't know the Magic UI. what about the bootloader?
Huawei closed the boot loader program in 2018. Now I wonder what about Honor and the bootloader? But I think it will be possible soon .. to install GMS. I can only recommend the APP "Gspace" for the transition.
it almost feels like GMS Nativ has been installed. At huawei it took a while to find a solution, but I think we will get a comparable goggle for Honor with Android 11 at some point. But of course it depends on whether enough people want to buy the device.
Unfortunately I couldn't see in the developer options whether the bootloader can be unlocked or not ???? But I can at least say one thing about Huawei, all devices that received Harmony directly, i.e. never had an EMUI. there is no installation of GMS at the moment. But with Harmony the problem is that it is basically still Android 10 and not 11. So the GSF cannot be used
I only could get Gspace to work on my Honor3 Pro+.
at the moment, nothing else works.
dumb question..is honor completely banned from google as well, or will the global version have it preinstalled?

So the Magic3 series is already available on sites like giztop, however in the description it always says "No Google play services". What does this mean exactly? From my experience, Chinese models of phones like Oppo or Vivo DO have GMS pre-installed, you just have to install the Play Store apk... No idea if it's the same with Honor here. I don't want to order the Magic3 Pro just to find out it's like a Huawei phone with no possibility of sideloading Google play services.
Does anyone know more on this subject? Thanks.

If you go to the Website of Trinity Electronics in Hong Kong they got Google running on the Chinese variant of the Honor Magic 3 pro plus but I don't know how they did it. I have been trying to figure that out. Most of the reviews I have seen have said that when the global variant is released there will be some update that will allow Google Services to be loaded onto the Chinese variant or I guess you could just flash the Global Rom but I still don't see a date for the global release. I would like to figure out how Trinity did it though.

Huh, that's very interesting, thanks for the information.
I wish Honor would just release these phones globally already... Or at least make an announcement regarding the release date.
I got Magic 3 pro+ chinese version with Huawei services, any chances for me to install Google services?? i tried Gspace and it worked but i want full google services in the phone with an emulator.

edit: every seller on ebay admitted that the devices they were selling did not have google on it, crazy misleading descriptions
Hi, I managed to install GMS on my Magic3 Pro+ (Chinese variant).
Since Magic UI is very similar to EMUI, LZplay method still works.
Notifications via FCM also work. After successful installation of GMS, I disabled GSF to achieve it.

if you can't uninstall Google Play Services, try uninstalling via adb:
Code:
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.google.android.gms
you may be required to restart your device after executing the command above if you can't install another Google Play Services.

You did a fantastic job, now everyone will be able to repeat exactly same steps with you. I'll try next week when I get my hands on the device again, too.

I followed all the steps but faced the following: (Magic 3 pro plus - Chinese variant
- Couldn't remove Google Play Services as there was no "Uninstall" button, instead there was "disable". So, I used adb to remove it. Did the restart but couldn't reinstall file no. 8 (google play services ) as it gives me an error message that it needs a shared library. didn't find any solution to this. If anyone who can help regarding this

- install old GMS again,
- uninstall old GMS using adb,
- try installing new GMS (No. 08)
- if you can't install new GMS (saying "need a shared library" or "newer version is already installed"), restart your device,
- try installing new GMS (No. 08)
You may have to do it several times.
As written in the article I referred to, this method is not stable.
When I have spare time, will do a factory reset, and retry installing GMS.

Still no hope. Now stuck with not being able to install either old GMS or the new one. Did that several times and I ended in with the same senario. will keep trying
