Google Now Launcher on LG V40? - LG V40 Questions & Answers

I can't load Google Now Launcher. Initially it showed up in the Play Store, but said "not compatible with this device". Now it doesn't even show up! Any idea why this might be?

Doesn't show up for me, either. Why fight it? Switch over to Nova. A long-popular launcher, still kept updated. LOTS of features!

Is it by region maybe..I’m in the uk and installed no issues.

Doubt it. More likely software version.

I use the Rootless Launcher with bridge to get the look of the Google now / Pixel feel.

Can confirm, currently running Google now launcher on LG V40 from third party app store after searching for apk online. No flaws.

Almost positive
Pretty sure Google says they'd be phasing out the now launcher about a year ago, so if you didn't download it then then you're outta luck

Tried them all
And in my opinion, CPL is the best!

Amazon Appstore app

I can't get the Amazon Appstore app to install. It gives me the message "Do you want to install this application? It will get access to:" then a list of areas and boxes for cancel or install. When I click install nothing happens. The cancel box works. (I did check the unknown sources in settings)
If it is being blocked by Google, that would suck.
I'm pretty shure its being blocked by Google.

If it's being blocked I might return my Nexus 7. It would suck that they would only let you buy apps from them.

Not true it's working for me. Go to Amazon& request a new link to be sent to your email.

Thats strange, i was able to do it on my N7. Maybe a reboot of some sort?
Works fine here. Go into Setting>Security and check Allow unknown sources. Go to Amazon web site and follow instructions to download and install. Did that to download an older version of a zombie killing game that works on N7.
Works fine for me. I use it every day to get the free "cr"app of the day.
Try rebooting it then re-installing.
If you're installing it from a previous backup from another device, it most likely won't work (not assuming you are, but just in case...) Like the others said, go to Amazon and get it directly and you should have no problem.
What worked for me was clicking the link for tablets. It says something like "no email or phone number, click here" and that downloaded the APK directly into my system download folder. From there it installed just fine. I had to do this to get it on my Google TV also. It seems to bypass some sort of test since the Google TV isn't officially compatible with it.
I just worked with an Amazon tech, got it to install using by going to this like in the browser on the N7.
http://www.amazon.com/app-email
Works fine now.
Mine installed fine. I used the APK from my phone. Got a bunch of the nicer FAOTD apps working perfectly too.

Idk man, I've gotten a few awesome ones for free, like quick office, sketchbook mobile, and some games like monopoly for free.

I find it incredible that everyone is giving Amazon a free pass for contributing to the Android Malware myth.
The fact you have to enable side loading on an Android phone to allow Amazon, means any other malware could also slip in. Using Amazon app store is a REALLY bad idea (plus the fact it's a barren wasteland compared to Google Play, and most of the apps are really out of date versions).
Surely the lure of free versions of old apps is not that strong that you want to open your phone up to allsorts of Android malware nasties?

Bugger the Apps they get games too. Of course only if you're from a certain country.
Majority of the free apps are a joke.
I usually check it every day and realize they're all trash (except maybe 2 apps so far) and then I uninstall it. For some reason I get struck with the idiotic idea that I may be missing out on some good free apps, so I stupidly install it again in hopes of some decent apps...... it never happens

That's what most people think. Once you discover what Amazon are offering for free is basically stuff that deserves to be free anyway, make sure you re-tick the Android security setting and revert back to the proper Android store that Google host.

When it first came out, it was great. Now, the free app is usually a very crappy game. In the past, I got:
Fancy Widgets Pro, Weatherbug Elite, Thumb Keyboard, App 2 SD Pro, Moon Phase Pro, Quickoffice Pro, SoundHound Infinity, Shazam, SwiftKey 3, and several other good ones.

1. I've never once gotten malware and I always sideload apps. I always leave that setting unticked as do most folks I'm sure.
2. having Amazon app store or any other app store doesn't change your default android Google play store.
You want malware, go download Blackmarket apps or pirate stuff, you'll get it then. I do suggest tho, that everyone should install a malware scanner. Avast, lookout, etc.

What? Side loading doesn't put you at any greater risk of malware. You always choose to install an app, whether you side loaded it or not.
Nothing wrong or risky with downloading the Amazon app store, being able to choose a different app store is one of the best things about android. CHOICE.

[Q] Chinese HTC One - need help with getting access to US Apps

Hey there, my more experienced friends. I have been lurking for a while now, and am preeeeetty sure this question or some variation hasn't been asked yet. We'll see.
I am an American living in China and bought the Chinese unlocked dual SIM/SD card HTC One. Though I think it's a great phone, some aspects REALLY bother me.
#1 - It has this ****ty HTC Marketplace rather than the Google Play Store
#2 - I can't get the Blinkfeed to display anything but Chinese jibrish
After a few weeks of finding NO apps that I want, I took my phone to a large electronics market in Shanghai and had my phone rooted. Some things became better, some worse.
1) I asked the guy to get me the Play Store and he did...but not everything is available on it. I'm unsure why this is.
2) It's obvious that the Beats sound is no more.
3) I still can't get Blinkfeed to change whatsoever.
4) I can find more apps than before with both the Play Store and HTC Marketplace, but something is missing. I don't really know what it is.
5) The camera seems to be much less clear than it was before.
I guess my question is, since it's unlocked is there something I can do to wipe the Chinese stuff off of it and install all American software? Did the guy get me a less than optimal root? What am I doing wrong? What's the easiest solution?
All I want is for my phone to function like an unlocked US or International version. Thanks in advance for your help!
I suspect at least part of the problem is the government firewall blocking things.
You might start by installing Xposed framework and the Modaco toolkit module for it. Modaco has a setting that blocks the Play Store from checking your location.
But the best solution is probably flashing one of the custom roms with a non-carrier-specific setting. Not sure what that would do for you, but it should help.
I can confirm that the Government is blocking some of the apps. Both my phone have the play store but on is still on v3 and the other on v4. I couldn't find an airport security game and all the featured apps and top are also china-fied.

I suggest that you have a detailed read through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2273570
It will tell you everything that is currently known about modifying these devices, including how to install patches for blinkfeed that will allow you to read foreign news, and facebook etc..if the firewall lets it in to china

VPN won't work.
You could have one of two issues.
If you just can't view certain apps, do a search in a browser and open the link to the play store. If certain apps can't be installed, then you need to fix it another way.
If you have a foreign SIM card, put it in the phone, empty the play store cache, restart phone. Once you restart, you will be able to view/install the apps available in the country that SIM is from.
Maybe there is a rooted method that works now, but last I checked there wasn't a reliable working alternative. I used this with my One X I bought/used in China.

Weather App for N6

Bright Weather is not available to load in the Play store...guess N6 DPI prohibits. So what weather apps are your favorite and are available on N6? Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I just installed eweather HD. Seems cool. Uses NOAA for results.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I am a weather nut have several apps installed:
AccuWeather
Yahoo Weather
Arcus
NOAA Hi Def Radar
RadarScope
Take a look at weather timeline. Its UI is sharp. However the radar is a weak point. I personally still use WeatherBug elite as its the most accurate for my area, but it is no longer available nor supported.
Check out atmosHere. I don't see it mentioned often but I've been using it forever. It's been accurate, reliable, and has a lot of features.

I like YoWindow because it has live weather wallpaper. I also use chronus and zooper, plus I have Google Now weather card active in my launcher.

Be careful with that one. It doesn't work with a lot of custom ROMs. Even though I've purchased it from the play store, half the custom ROMs I've used have tripped the anti-piracy detection. It'll keep saying that I don't have a legit copy even though I purchased and downloaded it from google play.
The developer also has no interest in helping me get it working, either.

Well that sucks. I haven't run into any issues but that would be frustrating. Maybe I'll check out some other weather apps. I haven't looked at them in a long time.

I just use google weather & news
I've been using Weather Timeline, it's relativity new but is inspired by material design so it fits in with Lollipop. I do like that I can look forward or backward to any date I choose and get weather data.
WeatherBug Elite. Nice App & widgets.
Also, Arcus.
Check 'em out.
Oh ... i just put my hand outside my window and get to know the weather in detail.
works well . no issues so far. highly recommended.
try it now in a playstore near you!

Cannot install a lot of apps from GP store

I did the nuke-it-and-make-it-usable upgrade. This is my first, so please forgive me if I don't use the correct terminology. I used FlashFire and uploaded SlimRom, SuperSu, and mini-gapps. It seems most of the apps I try to install says its not compatible with my device. Some apps I know are supposed to be there, don't show up in a search. Also, it kinda leans like it's a phone instead of a tablet. This may be normal, not sure there. Someone smarter than me, feel free to chime in. Am I doing something wrong, or did I miss a step? I used the tool from RootJunky. They gave this forum a lot of props and said you guys are the go-to peeps. I believe I got my files from the mirrors here. Amazon Fire 7", 5.1.1, Thanks in advance...
You pretty much would have to install the APK for each app that you cannot download from the Google Play store, part of the reasoning behind this is because Amazon Fire isn't officially supported by the Google Play Store, thus some apps will be unistallable via the app store.
You can download the APKs here: https://apkpure.com/app?hl=en
All the APKs should work. Just one thing to note would be that in the future, you'd have to reinstall the APK whenever a new update arrives for your app.
Best of luck!

So, in the background its still an Amazon Fire? I guess I just assumed by doing the new ROM, it would get rid of everything Amazon. That's what I get for assuming . Thanks!!
Great question and thanks for the answer. This may not be related to the "505 error" but I noticed with apps like "Open Camera" that it says the device is not compatible, and now I know why!

Magisk and Bein sports connect

Hi all,
apologies if this question has been answered already, I've searched before to post but I believe nobody reported it before.
I've installed 13.3 version, so far so good, netflix works through the play store for instance (I'm on lineage os)
BeIN connect still refuses to launch and tells me to install it through the play store, I've added the app to the hide root section as well.
Is anyone here using BeIN sports connect on lineage os or on any other custom rom?
Thank you

Yes I have installed it from apkpure since my play store it's the Italian one where the app it's not available.
So I suppose BeIN sports connect it's checking something in the playstore and it has nothing to do with magisk as I was guessing.
It will be slightly OT but do you know if there is any way to make it work?
Thank you

Thank you for the nice suggestion, I believe (still not totally sure) that the problem it's another one. The app in the Australian play store it's a different one than the one of other regions like say, France.
Connecting to the two play store the apps have different version numbers, 1.0.1 the Australian 5.3 the other regions, also the last release date it's different.
On the apk mirrors the one that you can find it's not the Australian one but the other one, so when you launch it from the Australian territory it tells you to install from the play store.
Again apologies for the OT but I just wanted to make sure to give the possible answer, not solution since I'm not finding the right apk.
Cheers
