Hi people,
I'm on the fence about exchanging my Honor 9 for the Mi A2 (the Honor 9 is a good phone, but it's not "friendly" when it comes to root, ROMs, etc.).
I'd like to ask if the Mi A2 is better in this respect. How easy is it to root and install new ROMs?
Also, is it true that unlocking the bootloader disables the fingerprint reader?
Thanks a lot in advance!

It's not that hard to root and flash, but comparing to some previous devices, it is a little tricky. Just follow the tutorial and your good. And, no, it's not true about fingerprint reader.

It's not that hard to do it. Similar to other phones, just unlock bootloader and install recovery. The thing is that you have to decrypt the data partition since it comes encrypted (confirm, someone?). This phone is pretty good, I am going to root it but I'm going to keep it at the stock rom because it's Google's Android One.
Also, the fingerprint reader thing isn't true.

Hi.
The earpiece is behind the screen. In fact is a piezoelectric "speaker" that makes the whole screen vibrate.
Whe you put the phone in contact with your ear, you can hear everything clearly enough.
Quality-wise is not the best sounding earpiece I've ever had, but certainly not worst. So not bad solution at all.
My personal observation is the developer ROM has considerably diminished "speaker" quality over the Chinese stable. I found this from talking on the stable ROM, maybe an hour or so on multiple domestic calls (USA). I flashed the developer ROM (because, apparently I get board easily), but after a couple of calls, about 10% of that I had planed, my ears were absolutely drained from the experience and I was continually repeating myself because my caller had difficulty comprehending my words, even though they were of the everyday variety. Upon returning to the stale ROM, all was good with hearing and speaking, including several calls to the some of the same people I had conversations with on each iteration. (stable/developer/stable).
I don't have "permission" to root yet, so haven't tried the eu ROM.
This, just in case someone would like to know some of the hidden differences in the ROMs.

I got the bootloader unlock sms . I would like to ask if it expires after a certain amount of time if not used?
Does an unlocked bootloader means no OTA updates for untouched CN stable/dev ROM devices?

Yes, the unlock permission expires after a month. You can always revert back to stable MiUi whether your BL is locked or unlocked. You just gotta flash the global stable update.

Thanks for the reply! I have another one.
My unlocked device will be bound to my MIUI account somehow? If I choose to revert back to CN official stable, will my BL be locked again, and unrooted with OTA updates possible?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome always! Also, if you revert to global stable, your unlocked state will be maintained along with the granted root access. Because the bootloader and root access are core files or what you'd call as components of the phone's firmware. So, flashing MiUi won't affect the firmware files. To be honest, I've never tried it so you might be doing this at your own risk, but I had a Redmi 2 and I did exactly what I told you to do. It worked perfectly for me as the redmi 2 had an unlocked BL out of the box. But this whole 'Unlock the bootloader' thingy started from the Redmi Note 3. So just be careful while doing this.

Yeah, right. I don't have any idea about the OTA updates but I recently looked on Mi forums and saw a thread claiming a stable nougat update that'll roll over soon through the OTA. Also, Mi5, Mi Max are on the way to development of Nougat updates.

I think this is not quite right, as I read the Unlock thread on the MIUI site, you can only unlock one device per month. I didn't see anything that leads me to believe the permission itself expires. As a matter of fact @underlines shared that he obtained unlock permission a few years ago for another Xiaomi phone and that he was able to unlock other phones without needing to request permission again.

Hi there!
I previously told you that OTA's won't tamper with the firmware files, but while I was browsing out on some Mi forums, it seems that the explanation I gave is wrong ( for the locked devices). The OTA's try to relock the bootloader and may hardbrick the device. So, please be careful while doing anything because the Mi Mix doesn't come at a small price and plus it is a limited edition concept device.

Is there any chance of getting Cyanogenmod, AOSP, or any other Android variant in the future? Or is there something that prevents this, and keeps it locked into MIUI?

Need twrp first
I have read of "delicacy" of this device and the ease of damaging it using rooting with lightness.
Despite having performed hundreds of "genetic experiments" on my previous devices, I think this Mate 10 Pro will leave you in peace also seen the price not so cheap ...
Apart from the fun of modding and changing rom this Huawei works too well to play with lightness.
There is no bloatware, energy consumption is optimized, and you can only do damage.
With the root I can only make it worse, so let him in peace. For a while...

Hi everyone, I bought that phone 3 days ago and since then I've been trying to root it
Tried KingRoot and Kingoroot. : both aren't working. And today I found this online
<<How To Vivo V11 and Vivo V11 Pro Android Phone and Install TWRP Recovery (cereus)>>
In this website/tutorial, there is a link to a custom TWRP. But I'm reluctant to try this one because TWRPBuilderTeam released it on August 5th (which I think is before the v11 pro release data right)!??
Have you guys tried this method? If yes did it work for you? Using this phone without root sucks

Not going to try some shady unofficial twrp build and brick my device when there is no Rom/unbrick tool available
I don't think this device will get an official twrp, there is generally zero to none development when it comes to Vivo/Oppo devices.
So dont expect much, its best to use it as stock locked device and use adb for some tricks up your sleve

Thanks for your reply. I guess, root isnt a big deal, somehow, someone will probably compile or atleast port twrp from another sd660 with similiar specs and resolution. I have done that in past, and i think probably some developer will do it in near future.
Problem is custom roms like linage, RR, pixelexperience or aosp aex.
But i hope soon.. vivo v11 pro only compromise, is developmemt. Hope to see better development in near future.

There is also one issue. That is there is not official flashing tool in case you mess up and brick your phone.. So it is really risky

Hey hi. Thanks for the link bro. I'll make sure to check it out.
As far as the warranty and the replacement policy, I think it's subject to some terms and conditions.. So before replacing or changing anything they'll check if you didn't try to mess with the software.
I talked to them on Twitter once and they explicitly said that they do not support any kind of unauthorized software change so.....

Before everything you will need to unlock your device. After unlocking the device, you can install other roms from other regions like the GLOBAL rom version without any problem through using recovery mode or fastboot . it's not a complicated process . you just need to understand the whole process first. that's all

once bootloader unlocked can we flash eea rom over an indian device and relock bootloader?
You can but don't lock the bootloader
Will the banking apps like ICICI, Indusind paytm etc work when bootloader is unlocked.? I'm really tempted to unlock it and flash the eu rom
Possibly not while unlocked but not flashed, so just in case, flash the EU ROM as soon as you unlock. One common issue after flashing and installing twrp is that some bank apps see the empty twrp folder and won't install. Just delete the folder, it has nothing in it, from your internal memory before installing your apps.
