Hi,
I received my Galaxy s10 a few days and the battery life has been pretty awful since day 1. As seen in the screenshot, I lost 31% battery with 35 minutes of screen on time with no background apps running in the background while idle. Is this just my phone or is this is a known issue because coming from my 2 year old LG G6 it is a significant downgrade in battery life. Any help would be appreciated

Hi,
Simple do a factory default from recovery.
Best
I have had 8 hrs screen on time recently and very happy, factory reset via recovery helped me and never looked back.

Hey Damir, did you try the suggestion?
Any improvement?
Battery on the exynos is sh*t, it is better tho after a couple of the updates. After the latest update battery time on wifi is amazing but still really bad on 4G.

Could you explain what is the theory behind doing this please? I'd like to try it but to justify the hassle of doing it I want to be able to convince myself it's not snake oil. Thanks.
I factory reset it today, I will update the post in a couple of days
Guys before saying that battery on the Exynos is horrible try to rule out the possibilities why this might be happening.
1) You restored from a backup either smart switch or google back up
2) Have you check which software version you have, there was a bug that did not allow the phone to enter into deep sleep. Please update to the latest firmware, there is a thread on XDA that shows you how to do so.
3) You got the phone recently, you need to let the phone learn your usage pattern, first few cycles will be horrible.
4) Do a clean factory reset and do not restore from a backup, install everything manually
5) Do you have the facebook app install, well change it for either Facebook Slim or Facebook web.
6) Use Adhell or adb commands to disable any app you do not need.
Battery usage after a day (LTE / WIFI on most of the time and watched some series on it). S10 Exynos on April security patch update

The steps to get into recovery are, turn off device and then hold the vol button up, bixby button and power buttons together and then let go when the splash screen starts, I have done this after every update to be sure but not sure if it is needed on every one.

If the s10 exynos can reach 8H sot I will buy one rather than s10+
My 6t is only 7h sot
Update:
This is the battery life I've been getting since the factory reset, no backups restored exclusively on WiFi, quite happy with it, though I haven't had a chance to test it on 4G yet which was my main issue.

Nice!!
I was afraid to see the awful 4.5h sot I used to have with my ex-s8 but 7.5-8h is enough for me.
Not as good as the supposedly 10h of the s10+ but enough.
@damirnikic You have the exynos version?

So the title says it all really... Only CM7.X series actually works correctly on my device. All other ROMs that I have tried either cause the phone to reboot itself after an undetermined time, or lock up the device and I have to pull the battery.
Sense ROMs are the worst for reliability I've found. They will reboot randomly with seemingly no reason. I've been playing with IceColdSandwich 8.0+8.1 recently and can reproduce a reboot consistently by opening maps and scrolling it.
I would be quite happy to stick with CM if the INC-S was getting CM9/10 in the future, but this doesn't seem to be happening.
So how can I stop the rebooting/freezing in all these other ROMs?

I've always fully wiped /data /cache and the dalvik cache when flashing new ROMs since I read that it's safest to do that from a ROM reliability standpoint.

try format everything else except sd card in the list
I've formatted all partitions except SDcard and am still able to reproduce the reboot by scrolling in google maps for 10-15 seconds.
I should mention that the reboots are not limited to this, it will also reboot during phone calls or other general app usage, but no where near as frequently, and it is not reproducible like the GMaps reboot.

I have cleared maps cache and downloaded a map for offline use as well, same problem is present. I have the latest Gmaps but the problem was reproducible well before this as well.
I don't think maps is the problem since it happens with old versions of maps too; but rather causes the phone to use something else, which causes the reboot.
Is there a way to see the kernel logs after a crash like on desktop linux?

If full wipe doesn't work. then try to change your SD card. Without backup your data. Just to see if reboot occur again.
This suggestion maybe sound stupid, at least, you can give a try
Backup your SD-Card on your computer and wipe/format it afterwards (FAT32). Maybe that helps...

Hi, sorry for breaking in, but seems like I have a somehow similar problem with my Incredible s:
The phone starts up fine, but will run only for 1-5 minutes before spontaneously rebooting when on battery power.. This never happens when connected to PC or charger, and phone seems to stay alive "forever" in Bootloader (Revolutionary-screen), but leaving that even for Recovery does the "trick", and again it will reboot after a short while. :crying:
Doesn't matter if SD and Simm are inserted or not!
Have tried all I can think of:
Fix permissions, different roms (GingerBread (stock/ some other) and Ice Cream Sandwich (IceColdSandwich)), of course cleared and formatted all partitions, tried different Recovery's (currently Touch Recovery) and radios (S-OFF'ed to do this after problem started), even have heat-gunned soldering for battery-connectors (yes cleaned connections as well), and heated a little where charger and battery seems to "relate", and have also tried another battery with similar 4-point connection (works, but same same) so what else to do??
The problem started two days after replacing a smashed digitizer with new one (from eBay), and after a two hour car-trip with GPS and Navigate on, but no charger, in a hot front-window; the phone just exactly reached to run flat out of power, and when I recharged it shortly after arrival, the "fun" began..
It clearly looks like a battery problem, but the battery seems in perfect condition. Could it be the unoriginal (cheap) digitizer? Mind you the phone worked flawlessly for two days with that ting..(?) Or should I invest in a new battery even so (please see pic.)?
Again sorry for intruding the string, but have searched a lot without finding anything more similar, and didn't want to open a new string for this.. Maybe this one will come to live again, with a new post... :fingers-crossed:

Your problem sounds like its hardware based. I was unable to prevent the phone from rebooting and so have gone back to CyanogenMod 7.2 where the frequent reboots do not occur.

Well thanks again for a plausible suggestion, but just now tried my guess (from post here above), and sadly still no go! Didn't even let me finish Setup (after installing Gaps) before rebooting itself ..
Already had a thought about HW power management myself, but kinda fought it off, as the idea didn't become me, however that probably is the thing..
Who knows a little something about the s710e PCB, to guide me messing the right thing(s)??

There is a stable release of CM 7.2 out now on the official site. I would provide you a link but I'm not allowed to yet.
I would suggest checking the MD5 sum and full wipe before installing it. If you are still having troubles then I would look at the hardware as the problem.

Mate, your problem is obviously hardware-related. You should go to htc service center if you want your device to run again.
Agreed.
Now and again you can get a bad download, which is why you check the MD5 sum against the orginal, but if this is happening with every ROM you use, plus the fact that you have already replaced parts on your phone with non-original hardware, leads me to the conclusion that you have a hardware defect.
Okay, since I've got the phone, it's been working without a problem.
Until yesterday...........
First off, I tried making a picture of a 'small' spider I saw in my living room:
I wanted to try night scene mode, but for some reason I couldn't change the scenes, the 3 dots to select a specific scene was grayed out for some reason.
First I thought that I might have disabled an ap or something that prevented me from using manual mode, so I enabled some things that I previously disabled . it didn't work.
So the next thing i did was clear the data from the camera ap and extensions. That didn't work either. (After each step I restarted my phone, just to make sure that the changes were applied)
I tried using background de-focus, just to see what it would do, after making a picture though the camera kept showing the saving animation and it never stopped, pictures I made after that weren't saved at all...
A few minutes later I could suddenly access manual mode and all the scenes again, taking (or saving) pictures was still laggy/not working tho.
I ignored the issue....
I also use the phone as my alarm, to wake up early from work....
But guess WHAT! This morning my alarm didn't went off and I overslept and my battery suddenly had 50% remaining, when I went to bed 6h earlier, it was on 93%. My clock ap crashed and that's the reason why my alarm didn't went off.
I rebooted the phone and tried accessing my alarms again, but I couldn't get to my alarms, since my clock ap kept crashing....
I had no time to look at the issue, since I barely had time to prepare for work, normally I drove to work with some music from my phone, but even Walkman refused to play anything........
I decided to do a factory reset, since I wouldn't lose a lot of stuff, but used ultra stamina mode to preserve some of the battery while I was at work, since my battery was still depleting really fast! When I switched back from Ultra Stamina to normal mode, the issue seemed to be fixed, so i did no factory reset in the end.
This issue is really weird, but the weirder thing is that THE SAME EXACT THING! Happened on my Xperia Z after a year or something (Only on a stock Rom though)
Is there anyone that even read my entire story (that i just typed) And is there anyone that had the same issue as me? Because it's really annoying me!!
Here are some screenshots:
Some help would be very appreciated!
(CPU Z Showed Processor 3 almost on a constant 2.2GHz)
3 or 4 days ago I had similar issue with my z3c, same with my sg2 year ago. with sg2 problem was with broken audio file (.mp3) on my card that makes device to constantly scan my sd card and not to sleep so that time I checked all my music with audiotester app, found some broken ones and repair them with MP3diags. Issue was solved and never happened again. hope that will help

So I rebooted the phone and suddenly it started acting up again. I did what you advised and it did seem to get rid of the problem. :good:
Now I need to wait for @damned91 to link the programs and see if it will help.
MP3 diags
Audiotester is standalone exe file program, just open it and drag&drop music folders there. won`t take much time
First of all use Audiotester because it works MUCH faster, then MP3 diags to repair.

In the past couple of days for no reason my phone when ringing to receive a call will freeze and restart itself, hence, missing the call, I can see the caller ID but no luck answering, upon restarted the call will not be on the call log. It doesn't matter if phone is idle or using an app, any app. I've lost a couple of important calls today. Happens on both lines.
Has anybody had this happened? I'm thinking of a factory restore, but will accept any suggestions before doing so.
Also, when leaving a wi-fi connection, ie: driving away from home, it takes about 3 or 4 minutes lagging, and then it will function normally, what I have to do now is shut wifi off prior to leaving the house or the office, untill I get to a new spot, but sometimes I forget to turn it back on and my plan is running, any ideas?
Both issues I don´t think are related.
I'm on Android 5.02, build 28.0.A.8.251, haven´t done any rooting, just like it came out of the box.
Thank you in advance.
maybe you can try repair your phone through PC Companion,
mine got OTA update right after i got it out of the box, if yours was the same, maybe that's the cause.

Thank you, tried this last one, only have used it half a day, no issues so far, thanks.
After 5 days I can say wow!!
Lagging gone, battery up to 15 hours without any change in habits, heat can't barely notice anymore.

You did factory reset or restore from pc? Also after that did you restore data with a program or pc companion or your started over?

I did a Pc Companion full restore, followed guidelines step by step andI just started over.
Except for contacts, those I emailed myself and loaded them from there.
I guess it was worth it

I still have 15%, since 6:45 this morning, it's 10:15 I guess I could go a bit after midnight.
A lot of whatsapp (at least every 10 minutes) Mail, Facebook, Twitter, a couple of videos, some games.
This is what Xperia is supposed to be I guess
Cheers!!

I got a note 9 originally sprint. Flashed tmobile u1 pie. Everything works fine except for two things. One of them is no edge screen notifications which isnt a big deal dont really need it. But the other is google maps. It keep loosing gps location when i put phone to sleep(app running in background). Yes location is on, wiped cache on app, downloaded newest version of maps even tried older version but still not working. Went to settings to make sure location permision is on and still not working. If anybody can fix this i would appreciate it. The last thing i can think of doing is factory reset. Wanna avoid that for now unless i dont find a workaround.

Make sure the first option is the same as attached. Mine wasn't, and GPS would lose connection if I turned the screen off.

Ended up doing a factory reset was a pain having to get my stuff just the way i wanted but now maps works fine. Thanks.
thers an unwritten rule in IT that should be applied to phones as well.if you ask me its just common sense too;
you dont update to major OS revisions. You should always start fresh.
Down the line, much less headaches and wasted time figuring out what happened when weird crap happens.

not sure if data is actually fully wiped. one thing for sure, doing it manually wiping cache and data in recovery is a sure bet.
anyways glad you got it working
If anyone else runs into this issue phone could be going into idle/sleep mode. Always turn off battery optimization setting if you do not want app put to sleep after a period of screen being turned off. Phone is set to "learn" or GUESS when apps are not needed to be kept awake alive. Settings look like this...
Certain settings give your phone the urge to guess what you need & want or don't need or want running at any given time based on your use, Long story not as smart as it sounds. It just makes or has a hunch based upon recording things like location, speed of100% predicta travel, sleeping, and any other stats it feels like monitoring. No human phone usage is predictable and same routine to the millisecond, People vary, this is where it becomes a hastle so I choose all the apps I don't need to run constantly or receive updates/notis from & I put them under always sleeping section. It was an interesting selling point but really needs work, or just bigger batteries & better power saving features that do not "guess" or make "assumptions" about our usage habits.
Hi all,
I recently just updated to Pie 52.0.A.3.27 a couple of days ago and I'm not really digging it. I have a XZ2 Compact H8314 NZ.
I prefer the Oreo UI over Pie - the nav bar is white most of the time, doesn't hide at specific (splash) screens like it does in Oreo, volume control is now on the side and I feel like it's harder to slide as the space is smaller...
Sometimes my screen rotates by itself even though I have auto-rotate off all the time, and it won't rotate back unless I turn auto-rotate on and off again to reset it.
The clock is on the other side and I can't break my 5+ yr habit of looking at it on the right instinctively!
Also the top tray slide down notif bar has the icons' circle borders spilling outside the side frame line which bothers me so so much. The icons tray was black and now it decided to turn white today and I am really not liking it. (I attached a screenie to better help explain what I mean)

Also when I'm playing mobage, previously on Oreo I can set it up on autogrind and it runs through the whole thing, but sometimes in Pie it decides by itself to screen off and my mobage stops running as a result. :/
It feels really buggy to me. I had no issues in Oreo before...
So I have a few questions -
I have an update available to 52.0.A.3.126, does it fix some of these issues?
If it doesn't and I end up continuing hating Pie, can I go back to Oreo?
I assume a factory reset will always put me back at Oreo?

Of course it's available. But remember to do the full factory resert after the upgrade (or simply run the software repair option from Sony software on the PC)
Most of the problems comes from the fact that people do not perform factory resets after major OS upgrades.

No, no chance. You'd have to reflash it with older software.

That's really sad to hear... I assumed that I could always go back via factory reset like other phones.
I assume I'll need a file of the older software, would you be able to point me in the right direction for a tutorial of sorts and hopefully a resource to get a copy of Oreo? I see Xperifim mentioned but it only seems to have the latest software.
EDIT: I found the Sony archives which has these two softwares but they were not the ones I had on my phone prior to the Pie update, but are the closest in number. Would it still be safe to flash using these?

Would I lose my region customisation? How important is this? I see region customisation mentioned in some threads.
I'll keep searching for how to flash/methods of loading older softwares.

Ideally, you would flash the software from your operator, if available.
If not, then go for the one from your region of the world.
Some time ago I've downgraded my Xperia XA2, and it went smoothly.
If you use the software for EXACTLY THE SAME phone model then flashing is perfectly safe.
(actually, it's also safe if you use even some parts of software from very similar model - few days ago I just added the VoLTE and WiFi calling functionalities to my newly purchased XZ2 Premium Dual Sim using two files from regular XZ2 Dual Sim. So probably in my country I have one and only one Xperia XZ2 Premium working with VoLTE and WiFi calling in my operator's network )
Oh, and factory reset is NEVER downgrading the phone. It's only resetting phone settings to initial values and deleting all the data.

Thanks for all the help so far emcom, I read that I have to unlock the bootloader first and Sony website says it will actually put it back to how to came out of the factory? Does that mean it'll be like, how I first got the phone new from the shop (Oreo)?
Under "preparations" https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/unlock-bootloader/
Unlocking my bootloader means invalidating my warranty, I still have a year left to go on that so I decided to put up with Pie for another year before unlocking that.

Factory reset = fullwipe of your userdata
Please unlock your phone only if you booted the newest stock firmware before successfully

So you're saying, before I unlock the bootloader I should update to the latest available firmware via OTA, then unlock bootloader, and then flash an older firmware using Emma/Sony's flashing program?
Sorry it took so long for me to reply... the topic didn't show up after the move and when it did, I couldnt reply cause I was always logged out on the page of the topic, and now I can finally be logged in on this page and reply.

Not. Scope storage to suck up the cpu cycles for what? Killed overlays. Killed features in many apps like Karma Firewall.
Q, the big sister no one wants.
Pie is fast and stable.
The Samsung variant has a lot of none rooted customization available on the Galaxy store.
My homescreen looks exactly how I want it to.
Don't know about Sony's take on it.
Don't enable any power management as this tends to screw up apps and eat battery.

Yes, exactly, for a proper TA partition after unlock
No problem, the migration was hard work.
