Seemingly uncommon problem with the homescreen. - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My home screen seems to be using bold text and it's messing up the spacing of the icons. Holding it sideways makes the page by page scroll basically skip a whole line of apps. It's been really inconvenient. Please help.
When did it happen: I was placing my tablet against my chest for something and when I pulled it away the icons were messed up.
Generation: Not sure. It's a kindle fire 7

Okay. Found how to check my OS.
5.3.6.4.
February of 2018.
I've never installed anything not on the amazon app store and I've not installed anything I've given permissions which could cause this. (Just covering all bases so I don't get asked irrelevant questions.)
Would an image be helpful?

I've checked that already. That was the first thing I checked. I just checked again and while it helps the spacing to change it to large, it still hasn't quite fixed the problem.
One more bit of information I can give is that my tablet never left the home screen when this change occurred.

Cannot use Search Feature on NOOK Android App

I have Phiremod 6.3 and the NOOK Andoid app doesn't allow me to click on the search button on the top of the app. None of the app's top buttons work. Is anyone else having this issue or know a solution. Yes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled and still no dice.

You may be suffering from the infamous insensitive Nook screen edges.
Try clicking about 50 times on the search icon. It will eventually work :-(
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
No it is not the edge thing because every other app the edge sensitivity is perfect. None of the icons on the top work, I am suprised that nobody else has experiencd this.

We have this issue with my wife's NC
The search button "does" work-ish if you can find its spot lol
I feel like the touch zone went from being the whole area of the button, to a single pixel in the dead center of it.
if we keep touching A LOT right around the center, you'll catch it.
Its REALLY annoying
I haven't found any solution yet.
I just click the search button in the status bar and it works exactly the same as the search button at the top of the Nook app would.

That's the strange thing about this. Other apps would put a button in the same place and not have a problem...
Just try hitting it a few times.

I have this exact same problem but even with some of the other buttons in the Nook reading software. It's extremely frustrating and I was hoping there was a fix for it. Those buttons on the top right are nearly impossible to use and the drop box menus are also very faulty. No tips to fix this?

Ive got the problem on the nook touch :/
I saw somewhere that this is an issue with the Nook app. Supposedly B&N knows about this and are working on it.
I have the same problem by the way. Just keep tapping on that stupid little button. It'll work eventually.

Yes, I've read the same thing. Same problem as well. If they offered a Menu that duplicated those functions I'd not care a bit.
Those curst buttons aren't working on my NC, so I won't be using this app until B&N fixes it.
My search button works but the menu button doesn't, go figure. B&N tech support said to use the stock software, not CM7... >:C

[Q] app switching with swipe

Is there a way to switch between apps with just a swipe, instead of pressing the home button and then launching the app each time. I need something similar to Dell Stage, where you swipe to move from one page to another, but it will be from one app to the other.
The reason for my need: I use Evernote for my public speeches, but I also reference the internet and need to access a browser, in my case I am using Opera. I need to switch back and forth between Evernote and Opera during my speech, and using the home button each time is to cumbersome. If I can just swipe the screen to switch back and forth between apps would be ideal.

Thank you for this suggestion, but swipe the screen to access a list of app is the same as pressing the home button.

Ah I see what you mean now. You could configure it to swipe from the side (instead of the bottom) with only evernote and opera in the list then it is just as you describe only instead of swiping the whole way to switch between the two you stop the swipe halfway to switch. You could also limit it to just two apps in the launcher so its easier. Just a thought though.
I think that kind of functionality would have to be built into the OS like it is in webOS and on the playbook.
Here's a video of me trying to do what I think you are trying to do

I have no affiliation with wave launcher by the way. I got it for free from Amazon in May and love it.

Yea, I did gave it a tried, but I ran into trouble with Swipepad. My Streak 7 is in a leather case, and the case cover portion of the screen around the sides, when I placed my finger on the side to swipe, Swipepad does not recognize my finger because the edge of the screen is covered by the case, so I can't swipe.
You know, honeycomb has a task switcher built in that stays visible when you run most, if not all, apps. If you wanted that, either wait for the official release from dell in september out give dj_steve's honeystreak a try. I've been running it on my ds7 for a while now and it gave new life to my tab.

Has anyone tried Read it Later for the Nook Touch? Hows it work? Tat's the only real reason for me to consider rooting.

I've issues with scrolling in the reading interface. Swipe up/down doesn't work very well: sometimes it goes to the opposite direction, other times it doesn't move at all.

Cool Jelly Bean trick!!!

I was just playing around with my Nexus 7 and I came across a neat and convenient trick to dispose of a app from the app drawer that you may have mistakenly selected and you only get three options uninstall, app info or simply drop the app on the home screen of your Nexus device. Well, there's a fourth option! Simply long press a app from your home screen or app drawer. Then, fling your finger that's holding down the app down up and release! That's it! From the home screen you don't have to take a app all of the way up to the white x remove then red release delete. From the bottom or where ever that app is on your screen you want to remove or replace, just press and hold the app you want to remove, fling your finger in motion down then up release and watch it fly away off of your screen! I think this only works with Jelly Bean, but this my friend is very convenient!

I can add another cool trick: slide up from the bottom of the screen where the 3 buttons are to bring up the Google search. Neat.
Another cool trick in Jelly Bean. Settings > About Tablet/Phone > Android Version (tap repeatedly for surprise)

It shows a lockscreen-style circle for that. Kinda unnecessary, but cool. A quick swipe up from the home button works just as well.

There's an easter egg in the settings app. Go into "about tablet". Tap the version number many times. After that, press and hold the Jelly Bean.

That is actually launching Google Now. If you do not have search history turned on for your google account, you will only see a google search.
If you have history, it will show more information cards.
I'm not quite sure if you're serious or you're really just now discovering the features marketed in the presentations.

Not everyone watched the presentations. No reason to be unnecessarily mean. I thanked him since I didn't know about the trick at all and these types of threads are awesome.
couldnt do it for the life of me and figured it must be a N7 thing only at the moment. But then I re-read the directions on how to do it... derp:silly:

If you long press either the back button or the multi-window button (I forget the technical name of it) and swipe up it will bring up google now as if you were holding down the home button.

No, I had not told it to do a barrel roll, and yes Chrome displayed normally in the full window.
You must have hit the home button right as it was doing an animation (like swiping away a tab), thus it used that "screenshot" as the thumbnail

I'm 99.9% sure that I didn't, and this was after unlocking the phone - so i'd have had to have swiped and jumped (fast!) to something else and then.... It's a longshot, but probably the only explanation that makes sense. Still, I think I'd prefer to believe that kitkat plays games when I'm not looking.
Happens if you press the recents button while rotating the phone.

Okay, that is something I may well have done, thanks!
Weird that I've never managed to do/notice this up till now. Just slightly saddened to realize that there aren't actual playful sprites inside my phone.
This is nothing new. I've seen this going all the way back to ICS/CM9 on my Nexus One.
