Hi. As the title says I might be moving from t mobile to att and I will be getting an att nexus one when I do this because 3g speeds are very important to me. I have a bunch of paid apps and I am just wondering what will become of that?
Cant believe someone is switching from tmo to att.
I switched to tmo after 7 years with att. Much better customer service, no nickel and dimeing, lower bill.
tmo has 3g too.

Its because we're on a family plan and my dad is working in Mississippi right now. T-Mobile has an absolutely horrendous signal there. Can't even get GPRS. Forget 3g. And if he gets a job back here its not hard to simply go back to T-Mobile as we all have unlocked phones. Anyways do you have an answer for the original question?
I think they stay with you...
... because when you get to the new Android device you will activate it with the same google account you used on the last one and your apps will follow.
You might also use AppBrain to grab a list of your apps before you leave Tmo and then sync again with AppBrain once you get to ATT
I dont think it will matter because those are all connected to your gmail account, not your sim card or even phone imei. As long as you haver 2.2 and "back up my settings" selected in settings, it will automatically restore your phone when you activate a new n1.
Hope this helps
Just make sure you sign into the account you bought your apps with on the new device, and it will download your apps automatically.
Well the thing I'm wondering is that, wouldn't my old device have to be disabled somehow? Because if I can just sign into multiple devices then people would be stealing apps left and right.
If you root you can always use titanium backup and swap that way. There's even a cross compatibility mode now as well. Backs up programs AND data (saved games, settings ect....)

The point is to factory wipe your old phone so a stranger isn't getting your paid apps for free. Google only ties your paid and free apps apps to your gmail account cause they know nobody would let a stranger keep their paid apps. And they don't care if a legitimate owner keeps 2 active phones on the same account cause that person has it in their interest if they want to do that cause they paid for their apps.
It's the same principle as owning a credit card. If I chose to give my credit card to my son to use, then its my choice and the card company does not care cause its in my interest to do what I want with my card. And if I want to take responsibility for that giving it to someone to use then its no issue in their eyes, the bill still gets paid.
Paid apps are tied to your Google account. How do people not know this?
I bought a Virgin Mobile phone at Best Buy for $30 with no intention of activating the phone. I just want to give it to my kids to use on WiFi. I set up Google Hangouts and was able to get it texting and calling through Hangouts with a google number, so everything is working how I was hoping it would and the phone seems to be great.
The only problem is that the phone keeps bugging me to activate it every time I start it up. Does anybody have any tips for me removing that notification? I also tried pulling the SIM card but then it complains about not having a SIM card.

Hi,
I purchased HTC 510 for the same purpose. To use the phone without activation, I switched the Airplane mode on. After that I was able to browse the internet, install applications from the Play store and play media on the samsung TV.
Slide the notification bar down
Click on the square in the top right hand corner for settings
click on Airplane mode on.
Oh, great tip! I will try that when I get home from work. That's even less invasive than what I ended up trying.
Here is what I did:
I rooted the phone and then installed an app that has the ability to "freeze" unwanted applications. I froze anything related to Sprint or data and it stopped bugging me, although it still has a little icon telling me the SIM card is invalid, or something like that...
I didn't post an update on here telling what I did because I wasn't sure if I was done yet. There may be other changes I need to make, but I would rather just simply put it in airplane mode like you suggested.
Please ignore...found all the info I needed.

I'm interested in flashing the VZW user data. Where did you find the info you needed?
Actually, I haven't quite. None of the Verizon ROMs I'm downloading from updato have the userdata file
I heard I can call Verizon and get a tech to enable the vzw features like WiFi calling... I may try to do that tomorrow.

No Wi-Fi calling, no Video Calling, no Visual Voicemail. Sorry.
It's interesting that you posed this. I have been messing around with my phone trying to get a TMO firmware on my Verizon variant. Every time I would flash the firmware, I would get an overlay of Verizon and TMO apps. You can check my thread for details, but this is the firmware that I was working with: N950USQU1AQI5 - SM-N950U TMB USA (T-Mobile)

Does the ROM you're flashing include USERDATA file that you stick in the UMS slot in Odin?
Went and read your thread, what a friggin' disaster. I flashed Verizon ROM yesterday. The software version was showing as VZW/VZW/XAA. Verizon never recognized my device as a Verizon one, so still no luck with Wi-Fi calling, Video calling or Voice Mail. Then I tried to bring back Samsung Cloud by linking to the activity via QuickShortcutMaker. Seems to work for a lot of people, but for me it was just force closing. Got pissy and flashed back to XAA firmware. Restored everything from Samsung Cloud and am pretty content again. Screw Verizon is all I can say.

Yup, I've tried multiple different firmware versions that all had the USERDATA file flashed into UMS. I am trying to do a carrier change with the factory binary firmware that BlueFox721 found, but so far, it isn't working. I am sure that someone will figure something out soon though....maybe....hopefully....? I am thinking about flashing to XAA firmware and leaving it alone as well.

I'm not 100% sure about that. I know without the Verizon USERDATA we will not get Verizon Visual Voicemail. But "HD Calling" (VoLTE) is an option on the phone. That's one down I guess. Verizon locks out video calling when you activate an unlocked phone (at least on my account they did), so I know I'm not getting that.
WiFi calling is an interesting one though. It's the only one I REALLY REALLY want. I spoke with a tech who hopped into my phone via diagnostics through the My Verizon app. She said "Advanced Calling" is enabled on my phone, and confirmed VoLTE. She said VoWiFi is there but it's like it's greyed out, she couldn't enable it She said that Verizon isn't actively "blocking" it. I'm seriously hoping it's in a hidden shortcut somewhere.
I have vzw firmware with userdata on my unbranded note 8. I got it from updato. It was uploaded on Sept. 15th. I can confirm that wifi calling and visual voicemail work.
Can you provide the link to the ROM on updato? Also, did you do anything special besides flashing all files via modified Odin? Which CSC did you use? Thanks!
I flashed the u not u1(which is my model #) via Odin found at:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/SM-N950U/VZW/download/N950USQU1AQI5/188972/
Everything works except video calling because Verizon blocks it on their system if you're not using a Verizon IMEI#. There is a workaround though. If you put your sim card into a Verizon branded phone, boot it, then pull the sim and put it in your unlocked note 8, video calling works until you reboot and their system catches a non Verizon IMEI number hitting their network. Then it's automatically blocked. I started using Google Duo instead and I'm happy. Wi-Fi calling, VoLTE, and Visual Voicemail are all working great.
Sent from my SM-N950U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Ohhhh, almost forgot, use the prince comsy Odin to flash the user file.
I may try it again at some point. For now I have everything set up exactly as I want and I like Samsung settings menu much better than Verizon's. I like the ability to use Samsung cloud too. Voice mail is about the only thing that I miss but Google Voice is working great and even transcribes voice mails for free (as opposed to $2.99/mo Verizon charges for "Premium" Voice Mail). I've never used wi-fi calling or video calling. There are so many apps like Duo, Viber, WhatsApp, Skype that can do the same thing, it's really a non-issue.
These are the links I used to flash my unlocked n8 to give me all the features needed to work with Verizon. I'm using Google voice for my voicemail and video calling isn't an option.

You can also call to have your imei added to their list...if one tech does not know how...call another until one will...others have had success and it adds all features available...
Purchased an N950U1 ("unlocked") from Samsung under the Note7 injured customers plan and put it on Verizon.
I need wifi calling due to weak signal at home but I also need the flexibility of an unlocked phone to use on international travels.
Have not yet modified my phone in any way.
Talked to a Verizon rep today.
He refused to admit that there is a way to change the IMEI in the database. Claimed it was an administrative/financial/controlling/some other crap that makes it not possible. He was able to provision voLTE (HD Calling) but no video calling and no wifi calling (important for me due to weak cell signal at home).
When Samsung builds the phones it publishes the IMEI listing what exactly is in the phone. Verizon looks at that list and if it's not originally a Verizon Firmware from Samsung, they won't provision it for certain services. (Apparently unless you reach someone who knows how to go around it, haven't tried multiple calls yet.)
This is kind of a new situation since about the Samsung S8; phones are (finally) all hardware identical (in a specific region, anyway) but only differ in firmware.
The next improvement is that the carriers are slowly realizing that blaotware is bad (Too slowly but at least progress is being made.) - even going so far as to allow some of it to be uninstalled - and more recent versions of Android offer more control over stuff so bloatware is not the issue it once was.
Differences between phones:
- Unlocked has: Samsung cloud, Samsung interface
- Locked has: Verizon bloatware, wifi calling, video calling, visual voice mail
(Did I miss anything?)
So far I see the options are this:
- Leave phone as is, accept fewer calling options in favor of less bloat and other improvements
- Install Verizon firmware and hope to find someone who will "fix" the provisioning
- Install Verizon firmware and activate it by switching from a "real" Verizon phone to this one without a reboot (how does that get the wifi calling to appear in the menu?)
- Return the phone and get a Verizon version.
Not sure yet what I'll do but leaning towards the Firmware/"Fix" version.
To complicate things, wife is on AT&T. That has even worse reception at home and she's there much more often.
If you need Verizon's wife calling and video calling on, you need to flash Verizon firmware in full.

Hi All,
I have been trying to follow all of these threads and waiting to get my hands on some VZW firmware since I am on verizon. I was rocking the Unlocked firmware but with only VOLTE , which is ok but I wanted to have backup for WIFI-Calling. I noticed in the other thread ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ock-odin-files-firmware-t3833205/post77449285) a user said to use Sam Mobile to download the firmware which Took about 5 hours. I figured the APP could maybe pull it if I typed in the right Model and Region. I tried using some different ones and the one that worked was the model : SM-N960U1 with "VZW" as the region. I have attached the screen shot and also uploaded to google drive for people to easily download.. Enjoy !!! The exciting thing is I used Odin with the said files on top of running the unlocked firmware and used the Home CSC and my data was kept safe. Basically everything was the same and it included the crappy Verizon apps but now I have wifi-calling .. sorry just a little excited..

By flashing the VZW firmware you also lose the samsung cloud and also the places and Caller ID/Spam feature. Maybe more but that is as much as I can tell.

One thing I just noticed is that, using android messages was I thought working 100 % but then I had people calling me saying they were texting me and I wasn't getting them.. They would get the SMS I sent but I would not be able to recieve. I switched to the Samsung Native app and bam my messages were there. I don't know if thats because I did not wipe first before doing ODIN or not ..

This is a common issues with newer Samsung phones. Their implementation of Advanced Messaging is half-assed and unfortunately you almost always have to stick with their SMS app to not have issues. Luckily the app has been updated a lot since the S7 days and is no longer a steaming pile of garbage.

Are you using Verizon as your wireless carrier? How did you turn it on?
My note 9 (unlocked XAA) doesn't have any options to turn on Wifi calling when my Verizon SIM is inserted. But Wi-Fi Calling turns on with a notification in the shade, and I can toggle via phone>menu>setting>wifi calling, when my T-Mobile SIM is in the phone.
@KidJoe
I did this on My device, Unlocked to VZW. It worked.
Wifi calling is located in Settings>Connections>Advanced Calling. Make sure you have a proper cel signal when you activate it.
Notes:
- As OP mentioned, Use the Home CS file and all of your existing settings, apps, etc won't get wiped.
- I was surprised that there were only like 6-7 crapps that came from Verizon. Mostly Yahoo mail and a couple games. The Verizon "Security & Privacy" and Cloud apps cannot be removed. I kept the voicemail and caller ID apps.
Otherwise, it seems like a pretty quick and easy fix.

that is after flashing the rom in the OP though, right? (I mean that is how it is on my VZW branded Note8, GS9 and Gs8. Yes I have many phones.. don't ask)
I was reading NICEGYPT's post as if it was done on the unlocked without flashing which is why I asked.
Question though. Since I did flash my VZW branded GS8 with the unlocked/unbranded to get the Oreo beta, and back .. for that phone there were more steps than just flashing the rom... Requiring a factory binary and other home csc file, etc. That doesn't appear to be needed non the note 9, is that correctly?

thank you for posting this! Will definitely try tonight on my unlocked Note 9 from BB, I did not realize that ordering the unlocked would disable wifi-calling with verizon.
Question: Will flashing the verizon firmware over my unlocked note 9 enable sending SMS via Wifi using the Android Messages app?
I'll be going on travel overseas, Wifi-calling is definitely nessasary for me, and sending SMS via Wifi using the stock android texting app would be icing on the cake
I also have US Unlocked from BB but on Verizon network.
Just to make sure that flashing this Firmware does not require OEM Unlock and won't disable Knox ?
hello
you don't need to reflash the firmware N960U and N960U1 are multi CSC so :
save all your data
- Power off the device
- remove the sim tray.
- Go to recovery , HOLD home ( or bixby button ) + Volume up together , and power up
- In recovery , chose factory reset .. This will give a warning and then reset everything
- Choose power off , in the recovery and insert sim tray .. you should do this before booting up as your CSC will be configured when you will start
- Power on the phone , wait and . then chose restart to system now when asked
- wait and after reboot , your CSC have change according the sim tray
some peoples do this without remouving the sim tray

"Alert
Sorry, we're having trouble connecting. Make sure you have a good signal and try again. If you still can't connect, call us at 800-922-0204.

It doesn't say what app it is, but I suspect it's from Verizon because the phone number is theirs.
My phone is unlocked and I use it on Personal in Argentina. I've used this phone for years and this only started happening last Thursday out of nowhere. No new apps, no system upgrade.
Rebooting the phone doesn't help either, and I wouldn't want to factory reset if it can be avoided. Any ideas what this might be?

SOLVED I had the same problem as well but I found a way to get rid of it, you gotta disable the My Verizon app and then 1 settings then mobile networks then network mode and set the global off to LTE/GSM/UMTS and then it will not pop up anymore, your welcome.
by Myles Tecomba
Good news, I found the locations since I don't have "my verizon apps" Bad news, the fix does NOT work at all.
Solved
I actually got online with Motorola because I knew that the app causing this nightmare was Verizon Login . The problem is that I debloated all my Verizon and the problem still occurred. But then by going through Settings | Apps | ... |Show System, I say the bugger was still there. I disabled it and the problem was solved. Of course this worked for me because I'm on an unblocked phone and note using Verizon.
My husbands Samsung Galaxy S7 has been doing this for over a month. He tried disabling anything Verizon related and even a factory reset and it's still doing it.

Yes, I did same with my note 4, still there. IGNORE those solved posts, this problem is NOT solved. I use T-mobile prepaid with this phone and since verizon locks the boot loader, there is not yet a rooting solution for this phone and since it's a note 4 there will not be one forthcoming.
fixed it permanently
SOLVED: I have two Verizon phones that I now use on T-Mobile and this has worked for both.
Settings->Apps & Notifications->App Info (options may be slightly renamed on different versions of Android, may be Applications instead, just get to the big list of applications in the Settings app)
then hit the triple dot/menu thing to give extra options and choose Show System
Scroll down and choose Verizon Login and disable it and force stop it.
Message will be gone forever. I've rebooted both phones several times and the message has never come up again.
In addition, disable permissions of My Verizon: SMS, phone and GPS location, your welcome

So I have an old Verizon tablet that is running android 5.1.1. I don't have options for "show system" or "Verizon login" that I can find. Anybody familiar with this 5.1.1 that knows where it would be or if I'm overlooking. Thanks.
Awesome! I'm using an unlocked Verizon LG G5 in Canada and I've been trying for quite some time to get rid of this problem. I've tried all the suggested fixes I could find on the net and this is the solution! Thanks so much buddy. Much appreciated eh!
This problem started recently for me on Samsung S6 unlocked Verizon phone that I use with foreign SIM cards when traveling. I tried restoring settings to default, but that didn't work. Then I tried resetting network settings and that appears to have worked. it was popping up every couple minutes and so far it has not.
don't work
i know this is a old post but i changed the network it didnt fix it it made me not have signal and still popped up so i had to change it back to global and its still doing it , it only started last month i have a s6 unlocked verzion its so annoying
Solved - BIG TIME!!

I had the same problem on my unlocked S6 Edge and knew that the Verizon Login app was the issue but the damn phone wouldn't let me disable it; grayed out. I bought an app in the Play Store named "Package Disabler Pro (Samsung)" for $2.99. The thing will let you disable ANY software whether built in or not. So once you launch, disable Verizon Login with it and the problem is gone. If you disable "Setup Wizard", you also won't get the stupid message about the SIM not being VZW card when you boot. I disabled all the other Verizon software too. Problem was so aggravating that I got an account here just to share the answer since I figure it has to be driving people CRAZY!!!!

Help!!!
Still having this issue, I’ve disabled all those apps, force stopped them, and it continues to haunt the phone. I’ve called Verizon and they don’t know anything about it, and I’m really about to throw the phone away and buy a new one. It’s an s7 so it’s still a decent phone, but I don’t know what else to do
So Close, but Disable is Disabled

This definitely got me closer. Using this method I was able to revoke permissions which forces VZ SpyLogin to fail so it isn't running, BUT, the "Disable" button is disabled, even if I force stop the app. It's most certainly this application causing the issue. Thanks for the closest solution.
**EXTRA info
This wasn't happening at all on my phone ever, and this is an old one (I need the IR blaster in the Samsung G6). It's an unlocked Verizon branded phone running on ATT network. I factory reset it yesterday and now I am getting this annoying Verizon Login nonsense.
