Tablet WiFi specs : WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band
The Tablet works well with 802.11 n 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
5 GHz is a frequency, it all depends on your area and the Interference Level. Everyone's router setting would be different.
Select 2.4 GHz for longer range, 5Ghz for shorter range but faster communication between router and tablet.
The most important of the two is that the selected channel interference level is acceptable.

Hey thanks for your reply but that wasn't exactly my question. I'm just confused that I can't connect to my 5GHz network. I seperated them in the router settings, so it should show up in the list but it doesn't. Only 2,4GHz.

Check your router settings:
All routers works differently.
It should be 802.11 Mode n
Band selection 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz
Bandwidth (20 Mhz for 2.4 GHz) (40 NHz for 5 GHz)
Channel ( select best with intererence level of acceptable )
Make sure SSID Broadcast is enabled.
Evervolv 7.1.2 WiFi is pefect, the issues starter with Oreo and Pie, Android changed the WiFi configuration.

Has the wifi n feature been implemented in any of the roms (such as r19/20/21 or cyanogen) since Google released the source code for 2.2? Some are saying that it is already active for them. Anyone have info on this?
Well just check the transfer rate from your PC
as soon as i get a router that supports n. Is there a way to tell from the handset itself if n is enabled?
I'm not sure how to check from the handset directly, however you could always select only the N band of wireless from the router instead of broadcasting them all. If the Nexus picks it up, then its N.
i too would like to know if N is available in any of CM roms. I have a Dual-Band N+G linksys router but for some reason i'm not able to connect to my N band.
mine has been working since CM5.0.7 since ive noticed

It only does 2.4Ghz 802.11n not 5Ghz 802.11n which is were the real advantage of 802.11n comes from. I actually tested it pretty throughly with my WRT350N router with DD-WRT firmware and I was able to achieve better speeds with 802.11g than I was with 802.11n with very little other wireless traffic in the area.

No wonder i couldn't get it to work! Thanks.
N has been working for me since the first leaked froyo update. I only set my router to broadcast N only
Like stated before, the wifi chip in the N1 is 2.4 GHz only. It is not a dual band receiver. So if have a dual band router that is transmitting a 5Ghz signal your N1 will not see it. This is actually kind of common with N devices (DVD players, TVs, Adapter Dongles) in the past year or so, most of them are 2.4 GHz only which really defeats the whole purpose of having N in the first place.
Doesn't n supposedly have wider range?
i answered my own question. did *#*#4636#*#* and under "wifi status" it says "Link Speed: 72Mbps" so it is enabled
As posted...it has the 2.4 only or the 2.4/5.0ghz wifi?
From samsungs note specifications site:
"Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct"
WLAN a-band is 5ghz area, so I think it has 2.4 and 5ghz.
thanks

hmm.. mine doesn't see the 5GHz radio on my Netgear WNDR3700.
Weird.
As a side note, i do think connecting to the 2.4GHz radio is a better idea as it has better range, and the Note won't be able to utilize the extra speed of the 5GHz channel anyway.
yes it works 5.0ghz also, with d-link routers.
its faster than on the 2.4 crowded band.
Mine connects to the 5 Ghz coming out of my WRT610N running dd-wrt
Works fine on my old Belkin G router (2.4Ghz) and the new Belkin N router (5.0Ghz). So yep.

The note has only antenna, so yes, it won't fully utilize it, but I get much faster speeds on the N router than the G oh and the speed drop off at the edges of reception is much less with N.
Hmm, well my 5ghz doesn't seem to be showing up. Anyone have any idea what troubleshooting steps I should take?
---------- Post added at 11:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:38 PM ----------
So just an update for people. I figured out the issue. 5ghz doesn't seem to be supported on 1xx channels, but works just fine on the lower frequency xx channels. I wonder, is this an European thing? Would there be a firmware tweak to enable the higher frequency (and higher output power) 1xx channels?
+1 on that. I would like to see it able to be used with the higher channels
I think it depends on whether the router utilizes the 20MHz or the 40MHz band. I bet the note can only see the 20MHz one.

OK ppl its the channel your router has set for 5ghz. European basebands only see 5ghz channels provisioned on Europe. Check Wikipedia, specifically here: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels
Simple fix... change router 5ghz channel to match region of your baseband
Using a higher or lower channel means nothing. Its finding the channel that is least crowded and has the least amount of interference.
Worked!

I wasn't able to connect with my netgear wndr4500, but this fixed it! thanks!
Or you can always flash a firmware which supports your local 5 GHZ frequency in case you have other devices which use this frequency range. I noticed that Asian firmware supports NA 5 GHZ frequencies.
I have a Linksys E4200. I tried using WiFi analyzer and put it to scan for the exact frequencies available in the E4200 5Ghz configuration, the S2 is unable to detect any 5Ghz channels. I also tried selecting all channels, but it did not work.
EDIT: Just found an answer on another thread that worked, I manually set the channel to 36. The phone immediately detected the network. Its odd that in auto the phone cant detect it.
Wondering if there is anything that can be done to get a Nook to connect at faster than 54 mbps G speeds? Does it really have a N wireless chip? I have searched and searched and cant find an answer to this.
According to the spec sheet, the wireless radio chip does support N. I'm not sure whether the software supports it
Radio: Chip ID Ti wl1271 (kernel reports wl1273) Chip supports bluetooth transmit/recieve and fm radio functions through the same antenna, but is not enabled in software drivers. Connectivity: 802.11b/g/n Security: WEP/WPA/WPA2/802.1x Mode: Infrastructure

Yamadog, do you currently have a n router that you are trying to connect too?
I've read before that the Nook Color wifi chip only supports 2.4 GHz range (which is used for both 11g and 11n) but not 5 GHz range (which is only for 11n). If you have a b/g/n/ router running in compatibility mode for all three types then it might possibly be doing 11n only at 5 GHz and 11b/g only at 2.4 GHz and so your Nook would never be able to see the 11n signal. Try putting your router in 11n-only mode and see what happens
I'm on CM7 and I've never seen a rate above 54mbps regardless of N availability.

I have no problem with the connection its just it connects at only 54 mbps which limits download speeds to around 11 mbps Max. My computers connect at 270 to300 mbps at download at my full 24 mbps speeds. I did have a g only router and it limited my computers to only 11 mbps like the nook. Aipparently the g rating of 54 mbps is just under ideal lab conditions and not really obtainable.
According to my home N router, the Nook Color connects at 54mbps but N is in use. For some reason that is the max rate it will use. I've seen this happen with other N devices when WMM is disabled on the client.
Whoa sorry never really answered you. My router is a cheapo 2.4 ghz n but it does allow 300 mbps connections. I have to run it in b,g,n mode because our wii is only g wifi.

I know, but I've heard of routers that do compatibility mode by segregating g and n between the 2.4 and 5 GHz antennas

I checked and did not have WMM enabled on my router. Enabled and although the connection speed still says 54 mbps, I recorded much higher, sometimes double, the download speed vs WMM turned off. Thanks! It might be a fluke but the speeds were not far off my desktop.
Actually it is a fluke. All along I have been using the android app for speed test to check my nook and it shows roughly half the speed vs the regular desktop speed page of speed test. Oh well at least I know I'm getting all the speed out of it.
fyi the Wifi chip is capable of up to 65mbps. I've seen this rate from other tablets with TI WLAN chips on my router. I haven't a clue why the Nook Color won't go that high. Not on any N router I've connected to.
I even took a look at the tiwlan.ini file but I don't see anything apparent in there. N appears to be enabled.
Until recently I was using Connectify to set up a home wifi hotspot for my phone (TMOUS HD7, running 7720 with the latest T-Mobile/HTC firmware) to use. Yesterday I installed a router instead, which has allowed me to play with more network settings.
If I set the router to 802.11n-only, my HD7 can see it but can't connect. If I set it to 802.11g-only, everything works fine. Has anyone actually confirmed that the HD7 can do "n"?
my home wifi network is "n" and both my hd7's connect to it fine.
I have forced the n-mode, no problems connecting
Yep, Wireless N works perfectly fine here
Which 802.11n are you talking about? 2.4Ghz works but 5Ghz won't. so it only does draft n not full 300mbps 5ghz 802.11n
You are comparing two different things, WLAN standard has nothing to do with frequency, HD7 follows IEEE802.11b/g/n standard operating on 2.4 GHz with 20/40MHz bandwidth, allowing maximum throughput of 150Mbps. It is capable of DSSS and OFDM modulation, and is also capable of operating in dualband mode, which allows it to connect to 2.4 GHz and 5GHz IEEE802.11a/b/g/n networks, this is however up to the OEM to enable this feature, this is not the case for HD7, or any WP7 device out there.

Draft-n was 2.4ghz 150mbps was it not? where as full rate 802.11n is 300mbps and operates at 5ghz?!
Well, yes and no, 802.11n is capable of data rates up to 600 Mbit/s, those are achieved only with the maximum of four spatial streams using a 40 MHz-wide channel. However, when in 2.4 GHz enabling this option takes up to 82% of the unlicensed band, which in many areas may prove to be unfeasible. I don´t have device which is able to be set to achieve this limit (2.4GHz / 40MHz with 400ns Guard Interval), so I can´t test it. Do you have internet connection that requires such a high value?

lol personally now i don't my links is 17mbit but i like the 300mbps for video streaming and file transfers, if only i had an access point with a gigabit lan interface haha
I have Note 4 SM-910T, Android 5.1.1 Stock with systemless root.
The phone's Wi-Fi always connects to 2.4 GHz. I have a 5 GHz network with 802.11ac also available from the same router, with the same SSID, but it is effectively unused. Even if I am 2 m from the router, 2.4 GHz is selected.
I have searched for settings to force or prefer 5 GHz, and all the suggested settings are not present in Samsung Touchwiz. Is there any other way to force or prefer 5 GHz?
Can you manually add your network name, with "-5G" at the end?
When I can't find the band, sometimes that's worked for me.
My network is:
"M.Heidegger" - 2.4
&
"M.Heidegger-5G" - 5.0
Hope that helps.
If it doesn't, I'm sorry.

If you create a unique SSID for 5G band, the device will not seamlessly switch over to 2.4 GHz when you move out of range of the 5 GHz network. By setting the same SSID for both, devices are supposed to roam between the best bands and APs automatically without connection interruption.
Sorry to chime in so late on this thread but the feature you're probably looking for is called "Prefer 5G" and it's on the WAP side. At least my Ubiquiti UAP-AC-PRO has the option and it works fairly well as long as I turn down the 2.4Ghz radio. Speaking of, try turning your 2.4 down to entice 5Ghz adoption.
