I used to do this on my Galaxy S5, way back in the day. I would use Root Explorer to copy a .ogg file that I converted from a .wav file to the root/system/media/ui folder.
I'm trying to do the same on my G6 after rooting. I have full root. Magisk is installed and updated to the latest version. I have Root Explorer and BusyBox installed.
However, this is the issue: when I try to paste the copied file the folder referenced above, it stays on the copying dialog box and never advances. It normally shouldn't take over 5 minutes to copy two files, with a combined file size under 5mb.
If anyone is able to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'll give it a shot. Thank you.
Edit: Didn't work. It gave no error message short of saying it didn't work.

After trying different file managers with root access, I found Root Manager. It successfully copied the files over and let's me change their permissions. I confirmed they are the right files by copying back and playing them in a media player.
However, now the system won't play the files during the appropriate action.
It's not playing every system sound, even stock ones, and I don't know why.

I had made some custom ringtones thru iTunes and a ringtone app. They show up under Menu/Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone. Most show up on the sd card under media either Ringtones (a folder I created for the iTunes one) and media/audio/ringtones.
But when I go to system/media thru Root Explorer, only the stock ones show. Using eVils 1.18 rom.
How can I delete the ones under Menu/Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone? If I can't see them thru root explorer. Or, am I looking in wrong place?
Ken
Files in the /system/media folder are the system ringtones. The ones that you saved are on the sdcard under /media.
The ones you see under settings are all the ringtones from both the system and sdcard.
I personally don't use any of the system ringtones...so I delete them with Root Explorer. But, to see the effects...you must reboot. At this point...you'll only see your saved ringtones when you go back into settings. Hope that's what you were asking to solve.
Thanks SiNJiN76,
I now understand.
Problem now is I have some ringtones in Menu/Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone that don't show on the sd or root explorer. They don't even have the right song tied to the title. Almost like they multi duplicated.
How can I delete them. My guess is I can't unless I restore.
Thanks,
Ken
I'm a bit stumped here. Maybe use the search function on Root Explorer for those file names? I know that I often overlook the search function all the time. Maybe the app that you used is somehow populating the menu with those ringtones hidden in its own folder somewhere? Hope I've been able to give you clues to solve this mystery of yours.
No problem,
It is a wierd one, I have 7 ringtones titled Hotel California that play Gypsy. Not sure how they got there or why there is 7 of them.
They only appear on the phone dropdown menu for ringtones, nowhere else.
I'll try the search.
EDIT: Search found them. Deleted, rebooted, gone. Thanks for the tip. It is a forgotten function.

when I try and delete it says I can't because the file is system read only file. Checked properties, but it doesn't show that (like a normal computer property list). So how do you change this so I can delete the stock ringtones which I never use?

Be sure to use a file explorer that has root access. If you are using the latest version of root explorer, it asks you if you temporarily want to mount as read/write (something like that). Once deleted restart the phone.

Actually you should be able to get it from the zip file you flashed to your phone. Use 7Zip to open the file and look around. It should be in there.
or just try this one out..
wifirouter.apk installation failure
wifirouter.apk fails to install via the normal means. After viewing the message stating that "wifirouter.apk was not installed" I found a few other places on the internet mentioning this app. One of these places suggested copying the wifirouter.apk directly to /system/app/ and setting the permissions correctly (-rw-r--r--). I have placed this wifirouter.apk file in /system/app/ via root explorer, verified permissions, and rebooted my phone but the app is still not visible. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm attempting to do this on an HTC incredible 2.
Thanks.

Don't think it'll work on our device. And if it did work for the fascinate you would prolly need to be on a touch wiz rom as well.

What Chopper said could be true. At any rate try this:
Long press on your file
Hit extract
Go to the extracted folder
Long press on your extracted file
Hit move or copy
Navigate to system /app folder
Hit the system rw if necessary
Paste the file
Re boot

Anyplace I do the long press in system/app there is an app that it thinks I'm wanting to do something with and I don't get the paste option. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Okay so I figured out how to paste it and it wasn't allowed. No I can't find the apk at all. I have even cleared cache and tried to re-download and I get the Ballero-2.apk actually I am up to Ballero-5.apk and can find none of those either.
un-rooted, microSD card, Go Launcher, ES File Explorer, HomeCatcher
Thanks again for your help.

Es file explorer is not as consistent when it comes to giving you root access, which is what you need to paste in system, app. Imo, root explorer is a must.
Edit; although I read that you can obtain that permission somewhere in the es file explorer settings

Where is th update. Zip file located
I creaed update.Zip file but im not able to find it
Its located in /sdcard
i still not able to find it
when you create the update.zip file, and it's finished, the notification bar will have a notification about the path, check that. If it's not there, may be the zip was not created successfully.
/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
Was this solved? I can't find the file either.. it's not in the root of the sdcard, I've tried to create it twice and searched for it. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
dont you get a notification of completion of the process and when you pull it down, you can see where its located ?
I'm having the same problem. If I look with root explorer, it exists on the root of the SD, but I can't see it in windows? Maybe it's a 2GB file limit thing or something?
but the update.zip is not more than 4MB

Yeah, I tried to make a smaller one, and it's still there but I can't see it in windows. I tried renaming it as well and that didn't work either.

Answering my own question - its definitely located in the root, just not visible in Windows no matter what I do. Use a root explorer to grab it and move it to a flash drive or remote network location, that's what I did and it worked great.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I used wifi file transfer. I was able to download the file from there.
I had this problem. Try simply unplugging your phone from the USB cord, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back into your PC. Your PC should now see the update.zip.
One of common prob's with MTP !!
just do a search in root explorer, i got 4 locations of the same file on my galaxy s3 so you can find it in anyone of those.
and yes it is the same file in all of those locations, i even tried to change the name on one of them to check if all of them changed and they did
/data/media/0/update.zip
/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
/mnt/shell/emulated/0/update.zip
/storage/emulated/0/update.zip
Move the file out of the root directory and put it a folder, any folder. It will then show up on windows.

This worked for me! Although I used the stock file manager. After moving the update.zip to another location using file manager, I was able to see the file via Windows as well.
just change the file name and retry. worked for me
C:\> adb pull /sdcard/update.zip

Thanks for hanging in there with me. I enabled root and verified with simple root checker (shows that Terminal is Rooted and Busybox not installed) but cache still showing as an empty folder. I also tried Astro file explorer with the same result. My notifications tray is showing the update ready for install so the file should be on my phone. It's probably unrelated but I have also enabled Developer Options and USB debugging. I've previously rooted and I have TWRP on the phone so I won't be surprised if I run into some trouble with the update (I'll unroot again prior to updating). It would be great if I found a way to save the downloaded installation file before going through with the update.
Any other suggestions will be much appreciated
