I've recently moved to a Mi A2 from a OnePlus 3. One of the good features of the Oneplus phone app was I could switch between sim cards before making a call then the app would remember that selection for next time. For example if I phoned my wife on my personal number it would remember that, but if I called my boss it would dial from my work provided sim card.
This feature doesn't seem to be in the Google phone app. Instead I get three opeions in the settings - use sim 1, use sim 2 or always ask. The problem with using always ask is that Android Auto refuses to make calls in my car as the software is expecting me to wake the screen and answer the question - sim 1 or 2?
Anyone know a solution to this? At the moment it is to select use sim 1 in the settings (I rarely dial out using my work number) so AA works, then toggle the setting if I need to use the work number. This is not ideal.
While I haven't tried one yet, I'm sure there are third party apps that let you do just that.
A search for 'dual sim dialer' resulted in

Google Dialer has that functionality, you have to set the calling sim for individual contacts by opening the said contact and long pressing the number you want a default sim on and then tap on 'set calling sim'

i added my contacts from my sim manager to my contacts on my phone. and now it shows them 2 times. 1 for the sim, and 1 for the contacts. does anyone know how to fix this?? please help. thanks
I believe if you go into the start menu, go into settings, then phone, then call option, uncheck the "Show SIM contacts" box and you should be all set...
i dont have a call options menu. but i do apericate the try. the doubble contacts are drivin me nuts..
Um.. have to changed your OS vastly? Its a default phone option, weird that you dont have one under the phone settings. If your start menu isnt too changed should be start, button 8 for options, button 1 for phone, button 5 for call options under call forwarding above call waiting.
Unless your phone is locked I see no reason that menu would be on my s730 and not yours
The Wing or Wings?
im not sure.. i did what u said and my list is ..
call barring
caller id
call fowarding
voicemail and text messages
any other sugestions? i do apericate the help though..
and its a tmobile wing.
Yes go here and ask. You have a T-Mobile Wing.

Hmm, I dont have a wing but I know some phones will put it under a contacts option, or under a sim card option. Beyond that I cant help any further aside from google searches
Contacts
Use the Sim manager, it will let you move delete and copy contacts both in the sim and contacts.
I need to fully understand how the dual SIM works on the 3T before buying it.
I have 2 Sims: work and personal. Both with 4G.
During working hours I need work SIM to be primary (calls, sms and 4G) while private SIM must only receive calls.
In the evening and weekend it's the other way around.
Is this possible? How do I switch?
Second question is: what about WhatsApp? WhatsApp is number based, so if I register my personal number, I understand that it doesn't matter which SIM I'm working for data. But what if I was want to use both work and private number?
So far as I'm aware all data has to go through one sim. It's a simple setting in the settings menu so could be changed a few times per week without much hassle. As for WhatsApp, the app only supports one number so I use spaceplus (Google it) so I can run a second whatsapp instance. It's a great phone, don't think too much about it...

I also use dual SIM selector to manage calls. Again, it's super simple.

When you have 2 SIMs inserted, you can go into the phone's Settings (SIM & network settings) and there you will have the option to set which SIM is the default for (each of the following):
Calls
Messaging
Cellular data
Or you can also choose "Ask every time" you make a call, SMS, etc.
Plus, you have the ability to name each SIM (i.e: "Work", "Personal" or whatever).
Far as I know, the "default" only applies to outgoing calls or messages. You will always receive incoming calls or messages, regardless of which SIM it is associated with, or which is default. And it will be tagged with a small icon, so you know right away which SIM (for instance: a call on SIM 1 or whatever you call it "Work SIM").
You can also easily pick which SIM you use when making a particular (outgoing) call or SMS. There is a pretty good explanation (with screenshots) of how this works on the Oneplus forums: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/dual-sim-overview.360441/
What you are talking about is a bit more complex. The stock settings don't have an option for scheduling the defaults to change. Not sure if there are any mods or apps that might help with that. Otherwise you may have to resort to manually changing it (probably not practical); or stick with having it configured a certain way, and using the options which SIM to use when making outgoing calls or texts.
Use Case:
1. Call a conference call number eg: WebEx
2. You are asked to enter the meeting number
3. You press the numbers but no tones are played
Had a tech support call with Samsung just now.
Firstly they say this isn't a feature on EU Note 8s (WTF!)
Then say it should work out of the box and my phone is faulty so take it to a Samsung centre for evaluation / exchange
I reckon this is a software bug. Can someone else in the EU dial any number and when you're connected to the call, press a number on the dial pad and tell me if you hear the tone played?
Im not in EU, but in the states it works fine, i have many conference calls daily and it always works for me entering my codes to get into the call. It should be working fine on your model as well, possible a issue with the carrier side of things or its turned off in the hidden settings.
Edit:
Try ##DATA#, if it brings up a menu, put in 000000 as your msl, then go to More, then go to DTMF SET. See if its off or not set at all? US model has a option here for this at least.
Hi
The ##2832# doesn't work on my phone. It's a real pig seeing as I work remotely!
Don't even seem to be able to use a 3rd party DTMF tone generator either (well I can but the system at the other end isn't hearing the tones).

I have a Galaxy N950N and I have this same issue. Did you ever get this working? I can't seem to find a secret service menu to enable it, and I know I'm doing something wrong here.
Hi
Not specifically a fix but the only place I'm having issues with is WebEx. If you try your voicemail, does that work ok? Mine is fine but for some reason WebEx isn't

Mine doesn't work across the board, irrespective of voicemail or other conference call. No dial tone is played in-call when you press the dial pad.

Figured it out. It's the CSC. Apparently, it doesn't work properly with the N950N (at the least the one I had installed, which was default with the Renovate ROM). I had to use the Flashable CSC Selection V1.2.5 from Tkkg1994, manually add the greatlte line into it, and once flashed, I got all the options in the dialer for TTY (I think which relates to DTMF), and most importantly, sound feedback when pressing the dialpad while in-call.
Solution
Go to settings -> sound and vibration -> uncheck the the dialling keypad tones(if checked).
Hope this helps!
this works. Go figure... you disable the dialling keypad tones and you can now use the keypad tones. Thanks for the help. This has infuriated me for months
I had not payed any attention to this, as I used some services that require you to input numeric options during call, and all worked fine, but, yes, no tones heard, but the tones are sent anyway
What worked for me was dialing the original number manually - not from the phone memory or contacts!
I use a Gigaset HC450 Doorbell that is able to divert a call.
This is a rare device, check ebay, it is a DECT phone on a Siemens Gigaset IP Base Station with a SIP provider configured)
So if someone presses the doorbell button on the Gigaset HC450 and status is set to AWAY
then the configured SIP provider inside the BASE station does an external call to my mobile because I set up my mobile number inside the HC450 Menu for Diversion
So my mobile is a Samsung Note 8, at the moment i run Stock Hungarian unbranded firmware N950F
When there is a call from the doorbell, there is a sentence said by a female voice: "Doorbell is ringing, to connect press 1, to stop press hash"
I cannot proceed by pressing 1, neither with Dialpad tones activated nor deactivated, and also a 3rd party DTMF tone generator does not work
Someone in this thread said it was fixed by flashing different CSC, which i think is not true because many said that they got webex fixed by simpy DEACTIVATING dialpad tones
I am greatful for all ideas that you have in order to get this working, its a new challange and I found this thread so I posted my topic here, too
Thank you very much for reading
Any idea wth happened to this one? i literary got a mate buying the same phone at the same place, with the feature on hand?

what settings exactly did you go for? a few guide that i've found didnt result in any success.
I found some SIP Settings with the app you recommended and managed to add my server (it's a local server), how exactly are the calls made? just dial the extension?

When placing a call it will ask you from where do you want to make the call. And just chose your SIP account.
Also receiving calls is working for me I am using voipdiscount.
I found the settings and configured an account of mine. But when placing a call it always go with one of the two sim cards and it doesn't ask which account it should use.
ALso, I cannot find where I should be able to enable incoming calls.
I set ALWAYS ASK as the way dual sim mode works, but it doesn't ask all the same.
Any hint?
Thank you.

I defined a sip account but when placing a call it doesn't ask me to use it so it seems useless as yet. Any hint? Maybe is there something else to set or configure?
Thank you.
on android 10, callingapp->settings->calling accounts->sip accounts its blank, but there is a barely visible + sign on top right. tap it and you can add a sip account.
to receive sip calls , in calling accounts, tab "make calls with" and select ask first.
also activate "receive incoming calls". (use more battery life)
Hello, just wondering if its possible to assign contacts to either sim1 or sim2, especially for outgoing calls.....i.e. personal contacts vs. business? Ive checked online and some of the solutions dont exist for oreo.
I know there are 3rd party apps that can do this but was hoping to be able to do it on the stock rom.
Thanks
Not on the stock ROM, no.
The closest thing to that is just remembering to hit the correct dial button from your contact list (i.e. SIM1 or SIM2), since you're presented with both options in the contact details.
Thanks, what about a custom Rom?
Its only a big deal when your in your car connected to bluetooth ....you select to dial a number then it just sits there until you pickup the handset and select which sim to use. Defeats the purpose of hands-free.

I haven't dared to try anything other than the stock ROM and I have no intention to. The phone works extremely well for me as it is. Why not just tap whichever handset symbol with the SIM number you want to call with? There is a setting where it will ask you if you really want to use a SIM card that's not your default upon dialling or messaging but that's a global default, not a contact-specific default.
At any rate, it's just a matter of tapping the correct icon to dial out on the correct SIM and you only have a 50% chance of getting it wrong. Don't become too reliant on automation. Even GM and Tesla wound back the use of auto-robots to build their cars.

Tapping the symbol is absolutely not an option if you are using e.g. your car's infotainment. You can use your contact list and pick anyone you want, but after that you can call or text, there are no other options. If you don't have a preferred SIM for calls, the call initialization will abort.
Shame on Samsung for not having any option for binding the contacts to any of the SIMs. Most of the users buy dual SIM phones for using office/privat SIM with the same phone, no question that almost everyone needs the possibility of binding most of the contacts to one of the SIMs.
