I love using my phone for photography and as my daily driver I use the note 8 which has a dual camera on and quality is amazing even in low light however I have been looking at the p20 pro the only thing which puts me off is the lack of a memory card
Question has anyone made a similar move ?
How do you find the lack of memory card slot ?
Any issues with the phone??
How quick are the phone updates
The 40mp camera interested me but I don't want to regret the move
Thanks

I did exactly this and have no regrets at all. Phone actually feels nicer in the handand 128gb is actually enough storage for me. Only had about 50gb of data between internal memory and my sd card on the More anyway.
Camera is great too though not a night and day difference if I'm honest. Is the only one I've used that can match Samsung for focus speed.
Performance feels smoother in general use. Samsung experience is still a little sluggish even after all these years.
Battery life is much better. Wasn't impressed with Note 8 longevity at all. Screen isn't as vibrant but it's still very nice.
I like the front fingerprint sensor better because I can unlock the phone without picking it up.
Can't speak for updates yet though. Only had the phone a week. Time will tell though the Mate 9 wasn't too bad on that front.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask me any other questions.

I had move from Note 8 to s9+ and now to p20 pro...
You have to find out what you prefer most.
For my daily use i prefer p20 pro for excellent photos (I never take videos and if I will then fhd video is very good but not as Note 8 or s9+), front fingerprint with gestures (no use of nav bar), ir blaster, huge battery (30% up to Note 8 & 15-20% to S9+), excellent build quality and screen as Samsung, great signal - wifi...
If you used to work with spen then forget it and stay with Note 8 until Note 9 comes out but if you don't use it then think if you want S9+ or P20 pro... This 2 phones are so, so, so perfect....

coming from s9+ to p20 pro havent found any problem yet.
about camera quality its already been proven alot of times p20 pro blast all mobile camera as of today https://www.dxomark.com/category/mobile-reviews/
if your using spen too much dont change its the only feature note 8 has over other mobiles.
camera quality is no better than note 8/s9 plus, front camera and video recording are mediocre to say the least, stick to your Note 8, Note 9 is few months away

Had an s9 for a couple of weeks, moved to p20 pro and now back to the s9 plus.
P20 pro is greatly over hyped.
The Bluetooth performance for me was a deal breaker as I couldn't run any headphones without stutter.
The touchscreen deadzone made things difficult when I had to use citrix or anything that required precise movements.
Camera is extremely inconsistent. It Can take good photos but you either need to use pro mode or get very lucky in auto.
I'll miss the battery and faster charging but that's about it

I had both, sold my note 8 yesterday. The infinity display is old news and causes more issues than it solves. No phone these days feels like a cheap toy unless you pay £50 for it so please don't spread nonsense.
As for "being" cheap and toys, that's definitely the Samsungs. They can't compete with the P20 Pro except with a memory card option.
P20 screen is better considering it's 1080p, better uniformity, no colour shift or red / pink issues. Sounds better than the Note. Takes better pictures by a mile. Lasts 8 hours SOT every single day for me. Note lasted 4-5 hours SOT.

Can't say I agree here. I use the Bose headphones, Sony, and phillips bluetooth headphones, Zero stutter. The camera is more consistent than my Pixel 2 XL.
S9+ shoddy battery life and shoddy photos meant it only lasted me a few days.
TO THE OP ) - Try it, and ensure you have 14 days to send it back, but I have extensively tested it along side the Note 8, S8+, Pixel 2 XL and the S9 and I can tell you if you know how to use the phone without AI on, ie when to use HDR mode, or just shoot auto, you'll not regret it. )
It is a little stuttery though. The phone itself not the camera.
Whatever happens, the Note 8 is as good as the S9+ if not better in most depts.
Went from P20 Pro to S9, missing lighting-fast face recognition, camera zoom & huge battery, everything else better on S9.

Will have to agree to disagree
Pixel 2 does a lot better in daylight shots as does the s9
Only place the p20 camera does better is extreme low light however something you said I do agree with.
You can take better pictures with the p20 but as I said, it's a poor point and shoot.
S9 is MUCH better for that but if you can use manual mode, p20 has a higher ceiling.
My use case doesn't work with that, by the time km done fudging the settings the moment is gone.
My p20 screen has major uniformity issues but that seems to be a lottery these days.
I 100% agree try both, 14 days should be plenty to decide.
For me. The advantages of the s9 way outweigh the advantage of battery and manual camera.
Bluetooth is poor, maybe I live in a high interference area but both s9 and pixel have 0 problems.
If you play games that scrolling deadzone will make life very difficult
Of course the battery difference will be more pronounced going from note 8 to p20 than s9 to p20
I had a note and ditched it for the awful battery
What's this dead zone that people are talking about? Haven't noticed any such thing, how do I test for it?
By the way Bluetooth turned to crap on my Note 8 after the Oreo update. Would not sync automatically to my car and I'd have to fiddle around hitting the connect button a few times until it would eventually work.
Maybe I'll try Samsung again when the Note 9 comes out. Not sure. Many good things about their phones but the curved display got old after a while.

It's this
I made a decision and purchased the mate ten pro I have to say I love it only downside is no memory card expansion but the camera is awesome I thought the note 8 was brilliant I love the AI
I played with the p20 pro however I wasn't working out the cost I purchased the p10 pro for £250 less
I have taken loads of pics and the AI gets it right almost all of the time
If anyone wants a superb branded Huawei I heartily recommend the p10 pro

Will trade you my p20 and s9 for the pups
I can't make mine do it. Could it be a software issue that's been fixed on my version? Or are they shipping inferior hardware to some parts of the world?
Is that on the p20 pro or p10 pro
I just point at something and it works it out have took loads of shots and it's not faulted once

I switched from the S8 Plus .. I was thought of waiting for the Note 9 to arrive, but was going to jump on the S9 Plus instead... That's until I started watching the review videos for the P20 Pro.. So I went with my gut and jumped on the P20 Pro .. After a week of using it, I'm impressed.. Battery life is remarkable..
1) 14 hour work day with moderate usage and I have 65% battery life left ..
2) Facial recognition fastest I've seen yet..
3) Where I would normally have bad reception through AT&T in certain areas and inside buildings, appear to not be there anymore.
4) I have not had it act sluggish at all.. No matter what I'm throwing at it and with many apps open in the background..
5) Camera .. Just Wow !!..
The only negative things are: No SD card slot and No head phone jack .. But the other stuff sure makes up for it ..
You can mitigate the lack of headphone jack with a USB C Charging and 3.5mm adaptor from Amazon for about £8. Works perfectly. Personally I use AirPods 99% of the time but I like the option of using wired headphones at night, as I tend to stick my phone in airplane mode.
Battery life is definitely better than the Note 8 but I found the Note 8 absolutely abysmal in terms of its battery life, so that's no great surprise.
The AI is very iffy. As a point and shoot I'd rather use an iPhone 8, Samsung or Pixel. The P20 Pro just gets it wrong too often - for example it will turn on Portrait Mode for shots if it spots a face but there are very few scenarios where I actually want to use their janky fake bokeh. It'll also turn on a 'scanner' mode if it sees a label - so the other day I took a picture of a beer and it just produced a crop of its label! You can turn off AI but the pictures then just look a lot blander and less dynamic than the Pixel. Pro mode is fun and produces excellent results but I rarely have time for that.
Software updates are my biggest concern. I'm genuinely worried that Huawei are very poor with software updates - particularly with carrier devices like my EE model. I'm already still on the March security update and hearing that other people have a new version with new improvements. It's almost like Project Treble was just a dream that I woke up from.
i have both s9 plus and p20 pro and i both use them everyday and compare them side by side together. taking pictures p20 pro is a no brainer its better than s9 plus its even proven in dx0 mark website so you really dont have to do experiments on how to properly take a picture and get the best result out of it. battery everybody knows p20 pro is better i before my s9plus i had note 8 im a heavy user my note 8 coming out of charge from full just in less than an hour my batts already around 97 almost same as my s9 plus.. about the 3.5mm jack issue i always use my bluetooth headsets so not a problem. sd card even 64gb is enough for me considering i have googlephotos and i upload all my photos automatically and delete all of if i need space locally
I can decide buying the S10 (normal one) or the Huawei P30 Pro.
What are your experiences with the phone so far?
Would you buy it again or should I go for the P30 Pro?
Hey mate. I was also struggling about Huawei P30 Pro. I have a S10 exynos, and my main problems with it are: battery, and camera. I was thinking a lot about exchanging my phone for P30 Pro, because of that camera and battery. But I made small research about P30 Pro, and... it's not a perfect phone. There is no perfect phone.
Check out forum about P30 Pro on XDA, and there are people complaining about different things of Huawei.
Those two last post from leoni1980 and Ady1976 kinda opened my eyes. They made really good points.

I think I'll stick to my S10, and I hope Samsung will improve night mode and the new charging speed will make the experience with Samsung better.
What are my favourite things about S10? First of all, the screen. It's great, the highest resolution is nice, but my top feaute is the reduction of blue light. Even youtubers are starting to inform about blue light and what harm can it do. Also the stereo speakers are really nice. I enjoy using OneUI with gestures and onehand+ app. No buttons on my screen, but also no one besides me know how to operate my phone Inscreen fingerprint is not perfect, but i like its position and that it can be used with wet fingers. Though my isn't always working. Huawei's interface isn't that nice from what I read.
Overall, it's a good phone, but not perfect. On some aspects Samsung didn't do their best, especially with the whole Exynos vs Snapdragon topic. And I think I'll stick with my S10, instead of trying to change it for P30 Pro.

Do not know about the P30 but I have had my S10 Snapdragon for about a month and a half. I also have the Pixel 2...
Love the S10 ..the Pixel 3a is due out anytime now and the 4 is due out in October and both will have a better camera vs the S10.
It really depends on what is important to you?
Camera? Always having the most updated software? UI ? Cost?
Do you use the Gear S3 watch? Etc, etc...
Sammy offers a nice trade in deal if you have the current S8 or S9 as well.

thanks for your replies guys .. I bought it yesterday for very cheap and I´m in love with it
Congrats and welcome aboard!
I just got my Realme x2 pro yesterday and the first thing i did was to test the screen on a dark gray background+low brightness(10-20 percent). And the result is this...
Is this a common issue? Only color where i can see purple /pink like spots is the dark gray but only combined with low brightness and in complete dark room. If i go up to about 30 % or more everything looks fine. What should i do? Is this defective screen? Or just amoled issue. Thanks in advance.
Some spots are common with low brightness in Amoled screens, in my mi 9t pro happens a little bit, also at low brightness, but the spots aren't purple, mine are completely black.
I think you should return the phone and get another one if you can, Thats what I would do
It is both I mean it is a faulty screen and common Amoled issue
Manufacturers like Samsung and others put screens like this on the market and don't care because ppl are I don't know use to this?
Something more about these flaws
https://www.ee.co.za/article/how-to-use-imaging-colorimeters-to-improve-oled-display-quality.html
You can type in google something like a model of the phone plus "screen uniformity" and you will see the true beauty of OLEDs
I have also that issue, and also on the replacement model, in a different way and worse.
This is the amoled lottery, dark grays in low brightness is the worse color for amoled to get it uniformly.
If you are lucky you can get a better one near perfection or get a even worse.
I have seen this in a lot of amoled phones, s7 Edge (4 units), mate 10 (2 units), mate 20 (1), mi9 (3 units), mi9t (3). The perfect ones that I saw lately p30 pro (2), s9 (1), s10 plus (1).
I got used with the thing . I once wrote Realme about this and the have not answered my email .
Anyway it only occurs on dark grey combined wirh low brigtness , around 15-20 percent . If brightness reaches around 40 percent , it dissapears. And this only occurs on places with almost complete darkness. So i can clearly live with this.
You probably can't get a oled from Samsung at the minute without this... I've had 2x S10 plus one from eBay Snapdragon version and one from Argos UK version with this and my brother has had 2x note 10 plus both Snapdragon from ebay and his wife has a standard S10 from EE and they all have it to some degree... I sent both the S10 plus back and my brother sent his first note 10 back. I decided I'm not paying through roof for a S10 plus with screen issues and got the Realme X2 pro.... My X2 pro has this but not as bad as any of the S10 plus and also colour shift is nowhere near as bad and whites are much whiter.
Here is perfect. So it is a lottery
i had two and both with uniformity issue..more or less the same of oneplus7t..and a lot of other oled displays I had recently..the only one that was perfect was the mate 20 pro (with boe screen, not lg)
mine is perfectly fine , i think its luck about the panel
Hello , now i my position i have s9 plus, i am about to change to s10+ or p30 pro , but i am sure i have my fears about p30 pro cause of the ban.
I live in Greece so we dont know anythign about the ban yet or the google apps, they said that they will not stop support google apps but is that for sure?
Maybe i buy it and after 2-3 months or so they stop supporting it.
What do you guys think? should i buy s10+ to have my head clear o i can go for p30 pro?
As someone who was in a similar situation and also had an s9+ and now has a p30 pro I must say my only gripes with the device are as follows:
Fingerprint reader does not work correctly in landscape mode just in portrait mode.
Brightness settings reset to default after phone reboot.
Huawei ID collects your banking information and browser settings and sends it to Chinese authorities as part of their verification process.
Other than this I've been very happy with the phone.

P30 pro is not part of the ban it's only the newer models like Mate 30/30 pro and going forward (so you'll be getting googles updates). It's a great phone I've been using Huawei phones for a couple of years now. Good quality device for a reasonable price. Samsung is killing its own market nobody can afford them anymore especially outright. In regards to the Huawei you're not forced to login or sign in. It's optional if you're really concern about your data.

You don't need to have a Huawei ID, and I certainly haven't given them any banking information. Browser settings? Of what use are they? You mean history? Just use a different browser than Huawei's own.
I'm very happy with mine, no issues so far. I don't think there will be any future issues with updates either.
Ban don't affect p30 pro at all. It's a great device go ahead. (Πάρε το με κλειστά μάτια).
P30 Pro is not affected by the ban, its a great phone, brilliant battery life and the photo quality is amazing, my Note 9 is lying in the drawer...
if you are looking at buying a phone in the near future then I recommend you wait a month as there are a fair few phones getting released. I would say wait a little

It really depends on what you need. The P30 Pro is a battery life beast, also has far faster charging at 40W and it's camera system is far ahead of the S10+, however the S10+ has the better Display and uses the more popular MicroSD standard, so it's really up to you.

So it took me a few weeks, lots of reading and watching reviews to change from Huawei to Sony. I had the p30 pro and it was an awesome phone but due to not having the app store anymore the p40 was out of the question for my new upgrade. So i'm stuck between Samsung and Apple right? Oh but Sony still make phones with awesome features and specs. Anyways, i love the phone, it's amazing! Screen is great, it's light and i can hold it in one hand etc.
My issue lies with the camera, I just can't get any good photos! Always grainy, too dark, too light (i am talking the pro mode as the point to shoot is well, meh)
Did i make the right decision? It almost feels the p30 pro's camera is better and that's an old phone!
I don't want to buy Samsung or Apple but with this one issue, i just might have to.
Any advice please, it would be much appreciated
Well,it's true to feel that way. I have been using mate 20 pro for 2 years, X1 ii is my first Sony phone which I feel camera shooting speed is quite slow compared to Huawei. But it can be rooted while mate 20 pro cannot. But I still enjoy using X1 ii.
Recently got my mate 20 pro rooted.
The same to me. I switched from Galaxy Note 8 and was very disappointed about photos quality. Their are good only in good light conditions. Otherwise it took way to long to take a picture or they are blurry.
It worked much better in my old Note 8.
