I've been asking around and nobody seems to know how to dial a number such as 332211. Using a Captivate. When I use the straight dial number it always puts a "-" in the middle 332-211 so the call won't go through. That number is what they call a short code. It's for text messages. I noticed even tv stations have them so you can get text messages about incidents etc.
Thanks

Did you try creating a new contact? Did you try putting *#*# before the number and #*#* after the number?
Thank you for the reply so fast gtg465x. I have tryed the contact create, didn't work. I tryed your *# but when I get to the last #* the phone goes blank. If I hit send the phone goes to the contact list.
like you said its a text message code... like 466453 for texting google...
You need to use your messaging app. not your dialer.
Phone numbers in the US are 7 digits (+area code) not 6.
Use the dialer to make phone calls and the Messaging app for sms texts.
There are also short codes for accessing various settings in the phone that you can enter into the dialer, but those are almost always surrounded by *# like *#06# which will display your IMEI
Hi pietro_spina - Ok that makes sense. However, I don't have a texting service on my phone. I'm trying to use GoogleVoice for texting. After a short search it appears Google isn't set up to let us use 6 digit codes. I tryed it and it doesn't go through. I will keep searching.
Thanks for the answer

If you use the google voice widget (select the text icon... It looks like paper) I have sucess using googles own six digit code. It cant be an empty message though.
The voice widget is part of the google voice app in the market.
P
When you go to google voice then submenu top left is a peice of paper with a pencil on it. Below it says "compose". Is that the one you are talking about? If so I've tryed it and it doesn't work. I did see in one of the reads something about the phone needs to be sms enabled. I wonder if the Captivate can't do it?
It works for me. I dont know what else to say.
I only know one short code. Google search... 466453 put that in the "to" field and as your message type "help" and google will text back some instructions.
Maybe post the short code you are trying to use? Is it some sort of pay code? Google voice might block that sort of thing.
Good Morning pietro_spina - I tryed your 466453 and it worked. It did list as 466-453 in the return message. The one I've been trying is BestBuy 332211 with text of GAMER and it won't go through. Google says error in sent message.
Sorry dude. I guess if they don't have any info about that sort of thing in the google help pages, then you are out of luck I guess.
I know for one that this is no easy task so lets come together and post your settings.
Not just saying what you sue but post your actual settings.
pbxes extensions trunks inbound/outbound servers for pbxes.org
and phone settings
sipdroid phone settings
googlevoice settings
all help and post are welcome.
Courtesy of Jiwengang:
1. You need to have a google voice account.
1.1 you google voice account setting: main forwarding: gchat has to be selected
1.2 do not choose call screening option (at least initially to get things work)
2. install Sipdroid on your device
2.1 click the "link with your google voice option on main page of sipdroid right after you installed it"
2.2 in Sipdroid setup, you will need to create an account with some provider like mine is pbxes.org
3. Have an account with pbxes.org (or maybe other service provider. but mine is with pbxes.org)
3.1 under extension: you should already have an sipdroid <200> (the extension number may be different , but this number MUST be the number in your sipdroid settings account field as "[email protected]" where 200 is the extension number
3.2 under inbound routing, you need to have a default routing which is "/"
click "/", you will see "sipdroid <200>" appear in various section, mainly "regular hours", "after hours", but there is one click which is "force regular hours", can help you simplify the setup initially to get things "work"
3.3 under outbound routing, you should see a "0 gtalk" routing trunk.
within the section, route name: gtalk
trunk sequence: 0 "GTALK/[email protected]"
4. In your sipdroid setting on your device, double check the username: [email protected]
password, your pbxes.org password.
Hope it can help in some way. Post your questions here and I will try to answer.
Lou0611:
I would like to add if you have 3CXphone:
3CXPHONE SETUP
3cxphone config for Pbxes.org.
ProfileName = Whatever you name it
User = loudemartino-200 (your pbxes login)
Password= XXXXXXXX (your pbxes.org password)
Internal server = Blank
External Server = sip.pbxes.org
STUN server= stun3.3cx.com (default, leave it alone)
Thats it.
Lou
2.1 click the "link with your google voice option on main page of sipdroid right after you installed it"
this makes it easier but that option is not there any more

Found this:
I just found out the auto set up is disabled until May 2011 due to the upgrade. You can set up google manually but you have to pay. Does anyone know how much and how to do this.
The "Create Free Account" button had to be temporarily removed until more spare capacity will be added to the PBXes platform in May 2011. However, it is still possible to create free accounts manually at the PBXes website, but adding Google™ Voice trunks requires a paid account at this time. Existing users are not affected by the change.
I think I messed up my inbound routing and accidentally deleted my "/" route.
How can I get it back? when I try making a new one I get an "invalid character" error (because I name the route simply "/").
Help!!!
*Update: Solved!

I figured it out lol.
I simply had to leave the name blank.
The issue though is that I can't receive calls. Even in google chat, I have no idea why this is happening.
Any clues? I can make calls from both sipdroid and google chat. But I cannot receive calls on either.
*Update: solved.
Yeah, I knew it would be something simple like what it was.
Turns out the phone I was using to call myself was in a group which did not forward to google chat. haha, that was funny.
But yeah, I ended up realizing that I had made a stupid mistake, but in the process I learned a lot. Maybe now I could even help someone who has a similar issue.
Hi,
I can make inbound and outbound phone calls in my andriod phone using sipdriod. However, I cannot receive any phone calls from my google chat(inside gmail) anymore. Does someone know how to resolve this issue?
Thank you!

Hello,
I've loosely based this app off of supbro's app for the 6.5 Windows system (iContact, iDialer). I didn't use his code but I did want this program to perform the function that I mainly wanted: The ability to pick and choose which Google Voice account I wanted to use to dial a number with.
If you're interested in checking this out, I've attached the xap for it. Thanks.
May 02, 2011 - 7:40pm CST - Updated the application to include a restore settings button and other changes to enable fields incorrectly disabled.
I've been waiting for something like this. I'll install it when I get home and post my thoughts later tonight.
I couldn't figure out how to use this. Is it utilizing the calling card method of dialing or something? It wouldn't let me select my GV number on the GV Info pivot.
I was thinking it would be an easy way to get to a dialer that would utilize GV direct dial but I don't think this is really what I was looking for.
thesecondsfade,
Yes, it utilizes the calling card method of dialing the number through your google voice account so that the google voice number shows up on the other person's callerid.
I didn't implement a select from the contacts list of the Google voice number on the GV Info pivot screen. Rather, you have to type in the number using the numeric pad and input the pin that Google Voice prompts you for when you access your account. After you've placed both the Google voice number and the pin, then you can select the radio button for that account.
As far as I know, GV direct dial only works with the accounts that you can specify the phone number with. Currently, you can only use a phone number with two different accounts. The calling card method is the only one that I know of to use one cell phone number with three or more different accounts.
Wondering if anyone has tips on using Google Voice Typing in ICS. I think it's pretty neat.
The only tips I can provide is that if you speak period or comma it will insert them. I did not find a way to make a new line or new paragraph. It just enters those words.
I have been looking for information on whether you can add new lines or paragraphs with Voice Type but can not find anything so maybe it does not do this.
It would be great if you could as this would really improve the system.
It's great for voice typing emails but frustrating when you have to go back and format the text.
I guess you would not need this for simple SMS messages and IM's but emails do need some formatting.
Anyone know if this can be done with Voice Type?
Hi,
Is it just me being an idiot, or is it indeed not possible to do a simple voice dial using JUST the bluetooth headset?
I am used to just double click on the headset's button to get a lady asking me what to do and I then just used to say "call xyz".
I did so using Windows Mobile and on the iPhone.
Strangly I can't find a similar option on the Note! Also, the preinstalled voice recognition just sends the wave file to a server for analysis. I don't like that, because I have limited Internet traffic on my plan and don't want to waste it this way. Also, I drive a lot in a different country, where mobile Internet is just not available.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
vma
You can find voice speed dial on market, need not to have net for application, you need to record tag.
well, at least I am not plain stupid for not finding the relevant option.
Having to record tags for voice dial is not state of the art and I would not rely on third party software for that.
To me, this is probably the #1 feature I am missing and I can't understand how this phone does not provide voice dial.
Thanks for your reply, though.
Cheers,
vma
