Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I can't get any sound or vibration on SMS receive. I do get a notification icon at the top of the screen, but it's all silent. I'm using Chomp SMS and had a play and tried the following:
Switching to the stock SMS app has no effect.
Checked media volume and it's fully turned up.
Turned any battery optimisations off
Checked DND and it's turned off.
I'm on weekly xiami.eu 9.5.16 but had the same problem on 9.4.1.
Any suggestions gratefully received....
Cheers
Just a bit more on this. Whatsapp works fine and I just tried a notification maker app here:

Vibration works, but no sound so I guess it's a wider issue.
Duh answered my own question. For Chomp SMS you go into:
Settings/Manage Apps/Chomp SMS/Notifications/Allow Sound
I wonder how it got turned off lol.
Cheers
Signal
Hello
I have no sound on notifications from Messenger Signal. The tone is standard, which cannot be changed either. Ask for an apology for my bad English (Google). Who has problems with signal. Thank you in advance.

I hope this is ok to ask here.... Is there an app or feature that can make the phone light up or make a noise if I have a voice mail? I've looked and so far nada. I don't always just pick up my phone and am hoping I can find something to prompt me too.

There is also an app on the Market called Missed Call that I could never really get to work right. You can set it up to provide a notification for a missed call or SMS using sound and/or vibration at a preset frequency (every minute, etc.).
The one I have used is NoLED, also on the Market. It puts a lighted icon on your dark screen indicating that you have an SMS or a missed call. Not quite the same as a voicemail notification, but hey you can't have a voicemail unless you missed a call.
EDIT: NoLED now includes a voicemail notification icon. Not sure if i just missed it or if it's a new feature; the app just updated recently.
Hi there,
I am pretty new to Windows Phone. So far so good, I really like it. There are a couple of things that are bugging me however. One is that I am missing notifications for new emails. Other app are pushing notifications, however, my email accounts (exchange and IMAP) don't. Is this possible?
Regards
Michael
Under Settings / Ringtones & Sounds you can select the Notification sound for incoming E-Mails. If it is set to none you don't get notified. There are no Toast-Notifications for e-mails though.
Too bad... it was the toast notifications I was looking for. A bit annoying if you have the phone sitting on your desk at work, muted and nothing happens when you get a new email.
Thanks for your answer.

it should vibrate then. That's what my phone does when it's muted.

I disabled vibration because it is annoying for my colleagues as I get a lot of emails.
What is needed is the ability to add custom tones to incoming emails and SMS already, I don't know what the hold up is at Microsoft. The thing is that the default tones that it has all sound the same and are so low that if your to far away you won't hear them.

Anyone use textra? I have noticed I cannot get it to be silent. I have my phone in priority notification mode and messaging isn't set as a priority but Textra still plays the sound. The only way I can silence it is if I go into the app and choose silent as the ring tone which isn't ideal. Is this happening to others?
I still haven't found a texting app that honors priority mode completely... They all seem to make noise if I am reading a text from someone and then get another message from that same person.
That's bother me too.
I've just received an SMS notification during a work meeting at full volume although my phone was set to DND mode.
(BTW you shouldn't have posted in a Nexus 6 section since it's a more global issue (Textra on Android 5 and greater)
**EDIT**
According to Textra changelog it's supposed to be fixed since version 2.25:
"We now honor Lollipop NONE | PRIORITY | ALL notification settings"

Unfortunately this doesn't work for me.
Textra uses its own database setup so it can over ride the default notification settings. Only way I found was to change the app settings.
When I press the 'do not disturb" button, calls and sms messages are set to quiet, I do not get a sound, this is great. But unfortuantely other apps, like whatsapp, still make sounds when a notification has been send.
Is there a way to solve this?

nobody?
Can't help. Had the same problem on the first software version that was on my phone. Never bothered to try it on the version I have now.
But I'm not surprised it isn't working. Seems only the default apps from the rom are muted.
Removed vivo.pem via adb, done all the notification stuff, enabled auto start, battery optimization to high usage, background pop ups enabled, but no notification for voice and video missed calls, whatsapp text messages are being displayed.
While receiving a voice call, the whatspp dial screen is displayed, but after end, no notification for this.
Any ideas?
I have very quite similar symptoms. Try disabling the dark mode. Worked for me somehow.
