If you got persist and efs back up then restore it now and you will get your IMEI back. Or you can move to custom roms in which you get the IMEI, take the back up of efs and persist and install on stock ROM, you will get your IMEI.

I do not have efs and pesist backup ... I will install a custom rom ... and put the result

There should be no different in recovering the IMEI as Moto g5 series is same. Can you post the procedure you have done to get IMEI back.

unless you have a efs backup, you need to repair imei with z3x if it's supported,
baseband, the file can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489238
download the appropriate file for your variant, it's up to you if you want to flash back to stock or not, but just do the dd command that's listed there, with the modem.bin file in that zip file.

The partition that holds your IMEI is probably corrupt or wiped - you need to send it in for repairs.

Till now there is no way to fix it.
Volte fix methods can make your device unusable.be careful. Avoid them.
It's not necessary for volte that baseband must be "R"..mine is "e" still volte is OK.
So don't play with baseband..
Are you getting 4G signal..and your IMEI is OK.??
Recommendations:
Take a TWRP backup and keep it safe.. before doing anything, will be useful in case of emergency.

Stay On Aosp Extended..Make sure that you are getting 3G signal..!
If there is no reception of 4G signal..then pass these Commands..
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot reboot
4G will be Back.
Now take take a working efs and persist backup using twrp.!
Note:
Skip these two Commands while flashing stock..
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2

Still no IMEI on stock ROM..Restore efs backup.
Re-Lock bootloader only when you have IMEI number on stock ROM.!
Without IMEI number relocking is not recommended.!

Can any of the senior developer clear my below doubts:
1. Can we get 4g back on custom rom after official oreo release?
2. Camera with all stock features and stability on custom rom after official oreo release?
My story is as below :
I was on AOSP extended rom and tryed to go back to stock.
Then Lost my imei
Went back to Aosp got imei but lost 4g. At this point i was getting imei on all custom rom but no 4g on any.
Some persist file clamed to give 4g back so i tryed it but lost imei again
Luckly i had efs back will i was on aosp extended (no 4g)
Now the problem after flashing persist flie is that i am getting imei only on pixel rom, that to after restoring efs back of aosp. I tried several other roms but no imei( even after restoring efs)
Now i can't use any other rom
Will we have any working fix?
I tried all the post like erase modemest, remove sim and flash official rom etc but nothing worked
Will official oreo release help developers to fix this issues permently on custom roms?

how to back up imei in rom soak test

My device is xt1805, I have root and flash custom rom Pixel Experience, I backup imei by EFS BACKUP. then, i flashed the official rom but my imei = 0, and i restored imei by PARTITIONS BACKUP but in this application i did not find the file to restore. I updated to rom 8.1 official, surprising my imei has been restored.
I want to go back to version 7.1 and I want to ask how to back up imei in rom soak test?
Install the twrp(don't install root .zip) and backup EFS and PERSIST or only EFS.

Restoring IMEI number

Hey everyone,
After apparently screwing up flashing stock firmware on my moto g6, my IMEI number got nullified... Do any of you know how to restore it? I looked for it online but could only find methods for non-MTK chipsets...
Anyway, have a great day

So people might be able to be more helpful if they knew; 1) what was the original version of the phone, at&t? sprint& etc, and what firmware version was on it originally? 2) what firmware did you try to flash to it? and when you say "failed attempt", what exactly failed?
3) what is the state of the phone now? does it boot? what does it do if not? 4) what exactly are you trying to do? what end result do you want? which OS? which firmware version do u want on the phone?
basically, you can put the imei in the FTM partition (with a hex editor), but if you want to flash something different, or it won't boot, it will probably just get overwritten when u fix the other problems.

1. Original version is Sprint V405UA.
I Unintentionally press format all data in qfil. Then I lost sn and imei. S/n I recovered, but imei i cannot.
2. Now the os is australian firmware with android 10.
3. Phone boots, but no signal. Imei is 0. I want only Recover imei and working calling.

the most I know to do would be to use a hex editor and enter your imei in the FTM image at position starting 0000d000
You would have to use qfil and backup the existing image, hex edit it, then qfil again to put it back.
I don't know if that will restore service or not. It might. If not, join the tele v40 group and I'd bet someone there will have more experience with this.
cheers
