Does both the Project Fi version and Regular Motorola version that is up for preorder tomorrow belong in the Android One Family? Or are they going to be on different update paths again?
They do not use the same software.
The regular Moto X4 has a bunch of Motorola software, and includes Alexa. The Android One Moto X4 will be a strictly 100% google software phone, and will include the google assistant. There may be other differences, but we're not sure yet. The Regular X4 touts features like "professional mode" on their camera, and a bluetooth system that will connect to and stream audio to 4 speakers at the same time. It's not sure if these features will make it to the Project One X4. The Project One X4 should get updates faster, and is promised to get Oreo before the end of the year. The Reg X4 will get Oreo as well, but we're not sure when.
Since it's the same hardware on both, and since the Android One X4 has been promised to upgrade to Android P, I would imagine the Regular X4 would also get P, but don't quote me on that.
Note: upgrading to Oreo is also required to unlock the Bluetooth 5.0 features. Android 7.1 only allows up to 4.2.
I received my Project Fi version this afternoon and it still has a surprising amount of Moto software features. It is not 100% pure Android.
Both Moto Actions and Moto Display are present.
Also the Camera app/experience is fully Moto.
No Alexa of course. And the Multi device Bluetooth control doesn't seem to be here.

Does this mean that in order to root, we will need to wait for a Fi-specific recovery image from twrp or cwm?

I'm honestly not sure, but I doubt it... If a custom recovery is ported/developed for the X4 it will most likely work on any X4 that is bootloader unlockable. I don't think the software channel will matter.

I just figured out there are more than one variant of Moto X4, I found out Android One version of Moto X4 has bluetooth 4.2 while original version of Moto X4 has Bluetooth 5.0.
I asked Project Fi support team any Moto X4 will work on Project Fi so I'm thinking to order unlocked version to use the hardware 100% for same price.

That is only partially true.
Hardware:
There are multiple hardware variants of the X4. Most of them have to do with antenna frequencies for different countries, and dual-sim options. From what I can tell, most American phones are the same hardware: "XT1900-1". There are multiple software variants, depending on who you bought it from (retail, Amazon, Fi, etc), but it's all the same hardware.
Bluetooth:
All Moto X4 have a Bluetooth 5.0 chip in them. Android Nougat only supports Bluetooth 4.2, so we're software limited to 4.2 for now. This is true for ALL software versions of the phone. It's a driver issue, and not something that Motorola can bypass. Android Oreo supports Bluetooth 5.0, so we will "unlock" 5.0 support when we get the 8.0 upgrade. Again, this is true for all software variants, not just Fi or retail.

Ah thank you for correcting me I only asked to project Fi support about the device didn't know the software was limitation of usage I guess the support didn't really know deeper detail about.

It seems the Android one version does not support one button nav or Moto key. Other Moto actions like chop for flashlight and twist for camera are there however. Not sure if this is just an oversight on motorolas part or not.

Moto Voice on Android One version?
I'm seriously considering coming back to Motorola with the Moto X4. The Moto Voice app really has the best in-car experience with Ford Sync systems. However, what I don't like with Moto is the slow update schedule.
So, I thought I found the perfect phone when they announced the Moto X4 Android One version, except that it doesn't look like Moto Voice is available on that version. Has anyone tried to install Moto Voice on the Android One version? Does anyone know what would prevent installing this app?
Thanks much!

I just read a piece from Android Authority that the G6 will begin receiving the Orea update on April 30. Following the G6, to be closely followed by the G5 and V20.

Yes i heard that too,hope T-Mobile variant doesn't take much time :fingers-crossed:
it would be nice if that is accurate, but the last i saw LG was going to use their newly formed update center to get the update out to non US phones first with the US phones to follow after that. Given that they gave the same date for the APAC phones, also saying that the US phones would follow later, and that TMO is supposedly already working on oreo for the G6 its anyone's guess......
T-Mobile hasn't released Oreo for V30 yet, while Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon got it. I don't think T-Mobile will start working on the G6 until after the V30 update.

With the G4 and G5 LG was one of the first to update to Lollipop and Marshmallow. I think LG fell from first to last in updates after their phone division was restructured. Now that LG figured things out, I suspect updates will get better. Although I don't think we'll get Android P until Spring 2019.

LG website shows a new update in the works. It is 11h.
Good news is that it should have a newer security patch.
The bad news, it is not Oreo.

T-Mobile is usually the last of US carriers to get updates. We'll probably get Oreo about a month after Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T
true, but i can see them using the excuse that they are developing oreo as a reason for not sending it our way

So I bought a moto g6 prime exclusive has anyone gotten the android pie update yet?
No update yet. Still stuck on the January security patch.
Does anyone know what amazon says about this?
I know the Retail US version of Pie is out so not quite sure if it's Amazon or Motorola dragging their feet about the update. Maybe it's worth a try contacting Amazon about it.

We have discussion on a Group and This gentleman claimed to have pie on his moto z2 force Indian with security patch of 1 June.
The Indian Motorola Fans confirms upgrade.
I still do not have an update yet. Still on Feb patch. (1789-06) India.
moto z2 force
The upgrade to Android 9.0 Pie began on July 17, 2019 with a staged approach. We expect all device to receive the update by August 19, 2019.
Got it, will post screens later
The update is going to depend on the carrier requesting it. I'm the us, Verizon requested and received the update to pie. Att Sprint and others did not request the update and therefore did not get it. This has been confirmed with conversations with Motorola and att. So thank your carrier prior to blessing Lenovo/Motorola.
There you go
Got the update!!!

So which carrier am I thanking for not getting the update for those of us that bought unlocked phones direct from Motorola?
It's the same kind of BS that those of us that bought S4 Actives got screwed over when Samsung admitted there was issues with that phone without fully taking responsibility, and offered a "one time goodwill replacement", but ONLY if you bought the phone through AT&T. Those of us who bought the phone directly from Samsung? Yep, screwed.
@urbex
Factory unlocked phone? Blame Moto/Lenovo!!
Got the update today. So far looks good and works fine. India (XT1789-06).
Issue with Pie update: Wifi & Silent mode
Hi,
I am facing issue of Wifi disconnection & phone going into silent mode automatically after a while is very disturbing.
Anyone facing these issues? What is the workaround - factory resetting the phone to Pie?
How to unlock bootloader of Indian Moto Z2 Force.? I'm not able to.

Saw an article on XDA saying there is a new Android 10 Preview available for our device (LG G8 ThinQ).
Does anyone know if this preview is solely for Korean models?
If it isn't, has anyone been able to sign up? The article states that the sign-up is in the "Quick Help" app on the bulletin. I don't see it anywhere on my Sprint variant.
I'm guessing it's likely only meant for Korean\Carrier Unlocked models. Sad face...
I'll believe it when I see it, LG has a pretty bad reputation when it comes to updates and I don't see the G8 being any different. I have the Amazon version of the phone and I haven't received ANY updates (still on April 2019 security patch)
Just got a message from LG stating the Preview is only available for Korean models. Super sad face.
Wow

No doubt about it being a great device, LG definitely turned out a high end device with the G8, problem I have with updates is just with the version Amazon had built for them, the regular G8 devices are getting updates like they are supposed to. I get two different stories with mine, LG says that since it is a special Amazon version (without the Google assistant button) they are the "carrier" and will be responsible for updates and Amazon tells me that LG will be doing the updates. I can't get a straight answer out of either of them so far, so I presume that the Amazon version is the "poor step child” of the G8 family and will be without updates in the foreseeable future
I would be shocked if we received Android 10 before the LG g9 is released I've come to understand the games these companies play which is why I will never buy another America phone again 8 will keep this my current g7 and g8 for the next 4 years before buying another lg again
My LG G8 ThinQ LM-G820TM just received the October update.
My fears of being stuck with a phone with great hardware but outdated software are subsiding.

I'm already on the 10 beta on the Sprint. According to some leakers, LG is already on the stable version now, it will only take a little bit for it to release. The question now isn't if LG releases it but if the carriers so. Hopefully we can get cross flash before that tho
