How's it holding up? - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

How has your Mi A2 held up so far? Using a case or no case? Any scratches, bends, camera lens scratches, etc?

Bought mine on August/2018. Still rock solid, no scratches on the camera lens, no scratches on the body and some really minor scratches on the screen, which is normal on any gorilla glass. I don't use a screen protector but I use a case since the phone is very slippery. The phone has never been dropped.
The battery is also holding up quite well, haven't noticed any degradation yet. My previous phones, all Motorolas (Moto X 2014, Moto Z and Moto Z2), were already turing off with 5-10% of charge at this point, and I'm still getting the same SOT I was getting when the phone was new. I expect it to hold up quite nicely until the end of next year, which is when I intend on buying a new phone.
Very well spent money, still happy with it as I was day one.

Mine is 6gb/128gb model and I use it from November 2018,.. So far no scratch or dent.. Phone is solid rock, for front I'm using tempered glass since first day, for outer protection I just use included silicone case.. Battery for me kinda good. Better than my previous Moto G5s plus

I'm generally very impressed with the build quality - with one notable exception: The screen glass.
After having had the phone for two weeks I dropped the phone - on snow - from low height - and the screen glass cracked. Then a few weeks later I dropped it again - from maybe half a meter, onto a carpet - and the screen shattered completely! The glass covering the main camera has also been cracked, but I have no idea how that happened.
Now, I've cracked the glass on a couple of phones before, but that has always been after lots of very high-impact drops. Compared to that, the fragility of the Xiaomi Mi A2 is just ridiculous. Could be just my phone though, so interesting to hear other peoples experience.

had it since august 2018, holding up ok with just a case no screen cover, no scratches, no ota updates problems.

Reports of delicate screen. What's your dropping experience with Moto X 2?

I've been very interested in a Nexus 5 32GB or Moto X 2nd Gen 32GB.
My first choice is the Nexus 5 32GB but it seems quite difficult to locate a US GSM version in new condition and within a reasonable price range.
While reviewing the Moto X 2 there is an alarming of reviews stating that the screen crackers very easily.
I would like to know what others have experienced while dropping their phone.
Did your screen crack? Did you have a case or screen protector?
Just get a thin case or halo and you'll be fine. The glass goes to the edge of the device so you so need a cushion there. I have the Naked Tough Case and my X has taken some falls with no issues. I also don't have a screen protector on and have zero scratches after a couple of months of use.

There is already a case and screen protector in my shopping cart. A large amount of reviews stated that the screen was really fragile but close to none mentioned if they had a case on the device or not. To me: not having a case is you get what you get.
But none the less without having accurate information negative reviews can be concerning for such an expensive buy. Thank you for your input; hope to hear from others too.
I don't use a case. The other day I dropped mine out of my shirt pocket about 3-4 feet onto a tile floor. I didn't even get a scratch.
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk
I dropped mine two times (no bumber or anything), both times it fell out of my jeans pocket. It got some scratches on the edges but absolutely nothing on the screen. I bought a bumper from Case Mate about a month ago (it was really cheap on Motorola brazilian webstore) just as a fail safe, because I'm usually very careful with the phone, the problem is when I have a few beers
My phone had a MAJOR fall AND bounce and my phone didn't have a scratch on it. No case, no screen protector.

Great, thanks all for your feedback. I just wanted some opinions outside of the reviews.
If you drop it, it will break at some point. However, the screen is built better than others. You just need a very thin screen protector for the sides and it won't break. Mine fell on solid concrete face down, no scratches.
had my phone for about a month, had a case on the entire time, dropped it numerious times no proble. Decide to take the case off just because I missed the look of the phone, 2 hours later I dopped it facedown on concrete from about 3 feet, I was on a park bench, completely shttered the screen. I bought moto care so everything was fine.
I've dropped mine on a concrete floor from about 1.5m high, no case, screen shattered - phone is now officially worthless.
It was just too beautiful a device to be hidden away in a case!
Now it'll be hidden away in some drawer until screens for it become cheap, because I'm not going to pay 200 bucks for the repair, for a phone that would be worth 200 bucks if it weren't damaged. So yeah, after all, the experience with my Moto X was quite a fail. Nice phone and all, but the way how the display is glued to the front glass is just a major construction flaw, because it makes it impossible to easily repair the glass (although there are spare parts being offered for about 10-15 bucks out there).
Mixed for us. First off, we bought insurance on both of our phones.
My wife dropped hers twice and it shattered.
I have dropped mine countless times. Some of those times I picked it up and I was shocked that it wasn't broken. It really depends if it lands on the corners of the glass side.
Any smartphone I have ever had that i dropped without a case, the screen has shattered. That's why I have a case.

Screen Scratches?

Any one else notice how easily the screen on this phone scratches? I have 3 massive scratches and lots of small ones.
Screen protector is a must. I have not noticed as I wont even touch a phone without at least film on it.
Gorilla glass always has gotten micro scratches so that is my reasoning.
I have not had a screen protector on any or my phones till now this Ive had the phone like 2 weeks it looks worse then phones I have had for years
I've never had a screen protector on a phone, mainly because I suck at putting them on and even a speck of dust or a small air bubble will anger me. This phone, though... I've heard a lot of issues with micro scratches. It seems to scratch very easily. I thought that Gorilla Glass was supposed to be scratch resistant. I had my Note 4 for three years and had one minor scratch the entire time.
I am totally babying this thing. I barely touch it lol. I am really rethinking the screen protector thing.
Everyone is different. Screen protector and case is a must if I don't want damage.
My wife uses phones for at least 12-15 months and most of her stuff look brand new.
House rule, I can't leave carpet without screen protector.
In the note 7 forum, there is the same exact topic, then, it was exacerbated by the faulty jerry rig miscarried test, later it was overly accepted that the screen was not the problem, that people tend to not recognize when the scratches were made, I do not know if that is the case now, with the note 8
I've had my Note8 for a month now with a screen protector on and off of it. No scratches on the screen yet (fingers crossed) and I'm switching between the Alcantera and Plastic Samsung cases. But my girlfriend's phone got super scratched on the back while in a case no idea how it happened there was no debris and the case is TPU. Her screen protector is already showing scratches as well but that's what it's there for.
Composed on Galaxy Note8
No screen protector since release day, all is good on my end. Was the same with my Note 5 for the entire time I had that phone. I guess it's just a personal habit/luck/environment factors that play into it. Sucks that you're having to deal with it. Maybe a screen protector can help hide some of the effects.

Same here. I never use a case or screen protector. My Note8, like all my previous phones, has no scratches whatsoever on the screen; the back is scratch-free as well. I've been using the phone extensively for more than a month.

Yup. Many people report scratch-free unprotected phones, while others report being as careful as they know how but still getting scratches or cracks.
The note 7 and note 8 I believe use gorilla glass 5.
It is more shatter resistant, but seems mote prone to scratches. Corning disputed that stating it was material transfer.
For me, it doesn't matter what you call it if I can't wipe it off.
I started using screen protectors when I bought the Note 2. I didn't want to take a chance in damaging my s-pen then using it and scratching my screen.
I've never used a screen protector until the Note 7 with Gorilla Glass 5. I tried the film protectors and they turn my flagship phone into a K-Mart device. I was going to spend the $$ on the protector shown here.
http://www.mobilezap.com.au/64792-w...galaxy-note-8-full-cover-screen-protector.htm
Before I spent the money on this I thought I'd try a cheap one and make sure I didn't hate having it on there. I ordered one of these cheap protectors from eBay (link below) for $10 and it is actually decent. I don't think there's any reason to get the nicer full adhesive loca glue SP. One thing I like better about the cheap eBay SP is that it is truly full coverage without the notch at the top. Sensitivity is great and not a speck of dust in over 2 weeks.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/332345555824
I've had the Whitestone dome on for a week now and I love it.
I got my original note 8 on October 1st and left the original protector in place, until the Dome came in. After the second day the factory protector started to peel. Once I peeled it off there was as scratch within a day. I started a warranty exchange to get it replaced. The replacement had a bare screen for less than 5 minutes before I installed the Whitestone dome.
I also left the temporary screen protector on until my actual screen protector arrived. It's odd that the Note 7 had a screen protector installed out of the box but the Note 8 didn't.
I pull my pocket out and Flick all that I can off of it in the morning before I put my phone in...seems to work.
So I thought it would never happen to me! Pull my phone out my pocket, check the screen and bam, two nice ugly glaring scratches.
What's going on?? I have babied this thing since I got it, even putting napkins down on any surface before placing the phone down. Pockets had nothing but the phone in.
Very sissapoonted, especially after having to return my 1st note 8 because of insane bezel light bleed!
NEVER have used screen protectors either, as I dont usually keep phones longer than 3-4 months. However, I did notice minor scratching on my S8+, were I never had scratches on any phone before. Going to throw a protector on this as I agree, as mentioned earlier, these screens lately seem to be way more prone to scratching...almost like they are going backwards, shouldnt they be getting less prone??

Ouch. Is there any way to fix or minimize that, besides getting a new screen put on? I'm getting nervous to even touch my phone.

I too had retired my unprotected phones in pristine condition until the S8+, which somehow accumulated several small scratches on the rear glass (but none on the front). But my unprotected Note8 is still scratch-free, front and back, after almost six weeks now.
I've seen speculation that the oleophobic coating may be too thick on some of these phones, and the coating may be what's showing shallow scratches. That sounds plausible, but I don't know how to tell if it's true.
Lol... there is nothing wrong with the Note 8 screen nor the 8/8+. My son has the 8 and no screen protector. And. .has dropped it.. in his pocket all the time..with keys.. and I just checked it yesterday.. Not ONE TINY LITTLE scratch. So.. if there is some scratch.. you/i did it some how. Like so many things in life its ALWAYS someone else.. not just .. I did it. There will always be some that drop the phone get a crack on the screen and then post and blame Samsung. Yet..happens all the time.
I have had this phone since September 7th with not screen protector on it with not one scratch on it. But my phone only goes in one pocket my left pocket always and nothing else goes in that pocket ever. That pocket is for phones only. Now I do have the Nano liquid screen protector on it. So maybe they work really good. Look on YouTube and see the scratch test on this phone. It is the same as any phone with Gorilla glass 5. The glass on this phone is so slick surprised that anything scratches it.

Is screen protector needed?

Wondering if you guys are using the phone with or without screen protection? I just got my phone and just love the way it the screen feels without anything else on it. Will the screen get scratches easily without protection? I'm not sure what kind of glass this is.
no matter which glass is, sometimes get scratches... no one screen 100% scratch protected...

Yeah, i'm using a tempered screen protector
I'm using without screen protector. No scratches, but I take care of my phones well. (Except for when I dropped metal on my last phone and broke part of the screen, but surely I won't do that twice)
The Mi Mix phones are very prone to screen breakage, so take any and all precautions.
I shattered two screens on the Mi Mix, one that the digitizer stopped working (a 3.5 foot drop), had film type screen protector.
I tried the Mi mix 2, and used a glass type screen protector. The phone had the original Mi Mix 2 case, and had a drop, the screen protector broke... sheesh.
I now have the Mi Mix 2s, and I ordered an aftermarket case that surround the top edge of the screen creating a lip (the phone laying flat on a flat surface, the screen will not touch).
I bought liquid screen protector, and gave the phone screen 5 treatments over a 12 hour period.
I also installed a glass screen protector while I wait for the 5D screen protector to arrive in the mail.
I am compromising less on the case this time, and going for more protection. In the past, I have used the oem case, keeping everything slim and compact. But because these phones are not easy to service (parts are hard to come buy, and tech are not all capable of working on these phones), I am waiting on the newest case to arrive. I went with a clear tpu bumper type case, that has added protection on the corners, comes with metal button backing for magnetic holders, and a ring holder.
Screen protector will help, but a proper case is mandatory.
Cheers,

The case, for me anyways (I had on a Mi Mix) is not enough protection in drop. I had THAT type of case, on my Mi Mix and the screen and digitizer broke from a 3.0' drop onto tile floor, hit the corner of the phone screen (it was a dead drop fall, not a toss type fall) rendering the phone completely inoperable.
The Mi Mix is / was a heavy phone, and the Mix 2 & Mix 2S are no light weights either.
I have to go with something that has a little more corner edge protection (a fall landing on the corners is a no mercy fall, it will probably sustain damage), whereas if the phone lands on it's edge flush there is considerably less damage sustained.
I wish TECH21 would of made a case for the Mi Mix 2s, there suspension absorption design is second to none, and they look amazing to boot.
Cheers
The problem with all the screen protectors i bought so far is that they all seem to be build for the mix 2, not the mix 2s. And the display of the 2s is slightly larger so there is no 100% percentage coverage in any of them. Have the phone for about 2 weeks now, already changed 4 glass protector, all of them suck because they are a little bit smaller than the screen or the roundness of the corners is smaller than the actual screen. Awaiting for alien surface to possibly launch a protector dedicated to mix 2s. Until than i'll rather risk and use the phone with no protector than use it with a ugly as hell one.

I was talking about protectors made for mix 2 being sold as compatible fir mix 2s and they just aren't. I should know sice I exauasted all the mix 2s variants being sold in my country and for the sake of experimenting i bought 2 models for the mix 2 hoping they'll fit somehow the mix 2s. Well they don't. I am still hopeless in finding a screen protector that doesn't look an feel like crap for this phone. At least one bought directly from vendors in Romania wherei live. Never had this kind of problem with the mi5 that i previously used. And i feel reluctant i paying 15 dollars for shipping from Amazon or eBay since i have no way of knowing those are any better than the ones i bought so far. So if anybody has a good protector with the link from where it was bought... Feel free to help. Thanks v

Thank you for taking the time to post this!
This is by far the best screen protector for mix2s i've seen. Thanks again for your trouble to post it!
Meanwhile i got this
https://aliensurface.ro/produs/xiao...-hd.html#/26-alege_acoperirea_telefoane-ecran
It's made by some Romanian company but it's an interesting concept. It looks great on the phone, it feels great, unfortunately it's just plastic not glass, so I fear it has zero protection against drops, but other than that it's a great product. And no, the phone was not damaged in any way while I had to spray the liquid on the screen to install it.
Without a case? TG(Tempered Glass) protector is a must have.
With the default case, one could get away with a plastic protector. I would personally still get a TG one though.
With a case that offers good protection, a protector might not be required.
Disclaimer: That is my opinion, and should not be taken as facts.
I had a mix 2 before this and let me tell you, you will get scratches no matter how careful you are. My gf bought an iPhone 8 plus at the same time I got mi mix 2 and hers looked much much worse, but you do get fine scratches over time. The ceramic on the back is really tough though.

Tempered glass

Hello,
Just wanted to share my experience with tempered glasses on Mi9se.
First I tried this one:
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07P88H5GC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It was quite ok, but covered only the screen part which is on, not the bezels.
It cracked when I tried to clean it up so I bought an other one.
As I knew Nillkin's reputation on cases, I bought this one:
https://www.nillkin-case.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=6461
This is the best! Covers very well the screen and bezels, the camera, and even the camera on the back of the phone.
Don't know about the strenght yet, but I definitely recommend it.
Used Nilkin glass for 1.5months now and after 1 month I wake up and find air inside or whatever that I couldn't push out. On the top the air hole appeared as well a week later. The glass cracked in my pocket while sitting whole day in the office lol. My previous glass that I used for 2.5 years didn't get air trapped inside (I had problems applying but after few days of pushing hard it never lost contact with the display)

That's a shame. Did you have the H+ pro or H flat edge? I hope mine won't end like yours.
Would be great if xiaomi built some tempered glasses themselves. I had one from oneplus on my oneplus 5t and it was very very good, despite the quite expanssive price.

H+ pro
lol so after seeing I hit dead end and that I can protect this phone I decided to peel this protector off. I was very gentle but immediately after raising it just snapped in half (no sound no nothing just the line that bends extremely easily). Feels very soft stuff like some soft plastic. It's a shame that for few weeks there was no signs of any trapped stuff and later air would get in micro dot that I couldn't get rid off and whole big air gap would reaper shortly after

Good. I just ordered one. Also the H+ pro with curved edges.
It has arrived.
I was able to put it on without any dust nor air beneath. So far so good.
Putting on the camera protection was a bit finicky for me. But I have that on too now, without dust nor air. I needed multiple attempts there. Cleaning that with a wet wipe (both sides) works very well for a restart though. I would probably not do that with the screen protector.

Hello, you know that glass can be adapted to my 9se from other brands

Screen (micro)scratch resistance

Hello all,
I'm about to order the P5, and one of my concerns is wether or not to use a screen protector. I haven't had one on my phones since my HTC Touch Pro, kinda hate them, but on the other hand it's been years since I've bought a 600 euro phone. I'm ready to order either the zagg or the luibor one.
My current device (Mi A2) uses gorilla glass 5, which according to a few articles I read has roughly the same scratch resistance as the 6 used on the pixel. Two years of use, just a few microscratches, barely noticeable without really looking for them.
I'll use a case of course, follow necessary precautions, but still I'm wondering if the screen is prone to getting scratched easily. Anyone using it without a protector and have spotted any microscratches on the screen or the camera glass?

Interested in this too. Just ordered my P5. All my previous phones I slapped a screen protector on, but none had gorilla glass (currently on pixel 3a XL, which I don't think does).
Anyone that can share their experiences with gorillas glass 5 or 6 would be appreciated.

Pixel 2xl had gorilla glass as my p2 did. Never use screen protectors with ultra thin cases and I'm a diesel mechanic. Got the p2 the month it came out and only have a tiny scratch where I dropped it with oily hands face down in the shop.

As stated above. Still a dirty mechanic and my p5 is flawless
Every new version of Gorilla Glass offers better protection against breakage. To make glass shatter resistant they have to make it softer and that makes it easier to scratch. Except for the Galaxy S10 that had a factory protector I've never used a screen protector and never had a problem though. I keep my phone in my pocket and so far it's never been a problem.
Glass will eventually scratch. It takes a tiny bit of the wrong material in your pocket to rub against the glass.
Just get a $6 screen protector and you're good
I've never used a screen protector, pointless paying for something and not enjoying it, screen protectors are awful compared to the joy of the screen

I got one on my 5 for peace of mind more than anything else, along with a clear gel case for the back.
I dont find they detract from the use of the phone, especially as the 5 does not have an in-screen fingerprint scanner.
However, I've had ones from 2 different companies now, and both seem too small to me. They are at least 5mm too small, both height and width.
Three weeks with the P5 without a screen protector and everything was fine, no scratches at all. And then I lost my nerve and put a Spigen protector on, which went on flawlessly with no bubbles. Good luck with whatever you choose!
Screen seems fine! Never have used a screen protector...
The higher the Gorilla Glass number, the worse the scratch resistance and the more plastic and the better crack resistance. The lower the number, less plastic, better scratch resistance and less crack resistance. This isn't rocket science.
I have a deep scratch in my P5 after holding two phones together, most likely a grain of sand. My fingernail gets caught up on the scratch, but no micro scratches. My P3XL has micro scratches.

Ouch!
I've put an order in for a screen protector.
