tasker auto switch from 3g to 4g when... - Tasker Tips & Tricks

good morning. can anyone help me to set my galaxy s9 phone to switch from 4g to 3g when i arrive home or when i connect to a wifi network personal? i hope an answer. thanks

Yes you can automatically switch from 4g to 3g and vice versa via Tasker autoinput action.
I set my phone to go to '3g only' when connected to WiFi, and go back to '4g/3g auto connect' when WiFi is disconnected.
You can do this without rooting your phone.

If you are rooted, you can use the plugin Toggle Network Type. Otherwise, use autoinput.
I can only give you the steps I did in Tasker but you have to create yourself the Profiles and Tasks in Tasker. It's better that way, so you can master how to do it.
I basically did these steps:
I created a Profile 'WiFi Connected' to my home WiFi or any WiFi.
Then I created a task to activate when WiFi was successfully connected :
1. Open app 3g-4g switcher
2. Autoinput action to select '3g only'
3. Autoinput action to turn off 'Mobile data'
Then I created an 'Exit Task' to activate when WiFi is disconnected :
1. Open app 3g-4g switcher
2. Autoinput action to select '4g/3g (auto connect)'
3. Autoinput action to turn on 'Mobile data'
They are working well on my S9.
These are only guides when you create the Profile and Tasks in Tasker app.

Yes, Tasker and autoinput takes time to master. You have to watch examples of Tasker and autoinput in YouTube to practice.

use an app like Tasker or AutomateIt pro to create a profile with the following tasks:
1. Switch Data 2G/3G
2. Turn Data Off
Create a shortcut for this profile in your homescreen, and use it as your toggle widget.
Tasker has a HUGE range of features, but AutomateIt pro Is much easier to use, and is cheaper!
Also, automateit has a FREE version, which has features enough for you.
Hope i helped!

I can't find in AutomateIt Free 2g/3g or Data on/off trigger/action. Will take a look at tasker.
Try using the "Set Mobile Data Action" on AutomateIt
I think it's there. Check again.

That depends on how/when you want to disable or enable data.
Some users use the screen on trigger to enable data and screen off trigger to disable data (conserves battery) - you can download these rules from the app built-in rules market:
Data off when screen is off
Data on when screen is on
Others use the wifi state trigger so when there is a wifi connection data will be disabled:
WiFi On, Mobile data Off
On top of this - if you don't have a specific trigger for that and you want to control it manually from your home page, you can use the "Manual Trigger" and create a widget that runs the rule to enable or disable data on the device.

Create a rule with two actions:
1. Switch to 2g
2. Turn if data.
add a shortcut to home screen.
Click on it to turn if data AND switch to 2g.
Create another one with two rules:
1. Switch to 3g
2. Turn on data.
Add this second shortcut also to home screen.
DONE.

oh. My bad then. Sorry
But switching to 2g is important, cuz (at least here in India) 3g network doesn't have much coverage....I can get Upto 2 bars on 3g at home, but full signal when I switch to 2g.

As ykumar00 written - I have poor 3G coverage in my home place, so switching to 2G lets me be always available and helps preserve power (poor signal = searching for Cell Towers).

Thanks. I am fooling around with tasker. Is is possible to set a 'mobile data on/off' context? I can only do "On switch to 2g/3g switch data on/off", but I would rather like to have "On data on/off switch 2g/3g" (because I have a system data on/off switch easily available).

[Q] Nexus 6 Hotspot Toggle/Trigger

I have a Nexus 6 (not rooted) on Verizon, I pay for Hotspots. I would like to use NFC tag's to trigger turning on or off my hotspot or at the very least use a widget that i can turn on/off hotspots. it seems that all the widgets/tasker/Triggger does not turn the hotspot feature on and off so i have to go to the settings each time to turn on the hotspot.
is there a problem with hotspots ?
You can use anycut and create a shortcut icon. As for NFC, you can use a Tasker profile.

Well thats the problem Tasker isnt working but has on other phones. I was wondering if there is a problem with nexus6,non-rooted phones, or Android 5.0.1 has a problem with toggling Hotspot.
If I make a Tasker Action:
Code:
Action >>Settings>>Net>>WifiTether>>[Set] (Toggle)
Then run the action, I get an error of
Action WiFi tether Failed
Click to collapse
for example even using "Toggle Hotspot Widget" the widget will reflect if i have turned on/off the hotspot but the widget cannot change the state of the hotspot. it seems that nexus 6 cannot use wigets or anything other going to the settings.
another odd thing that might be related. The Quick settings for hotspot never shows up which should be an added feature of 5.0.1
I've seen mixed results on the 5.0.1 having the hotspot in the quick settings automatically. I know that mine did not. I just added the following to my build.prop and it showed up- but you have to be rooted for this:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Have you tried - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wakdev.wdnfc ?

I've had the same issue... Tasker nor Trigger are able to turn on/off the hotspot like it has on every other phone I've had. Ever come up with anything that would work?
Same here. Nexus 5x, Android 6.0.1, factory settings. The only way to turn on tethering is in Settings -> Wireless & networks -> More -> Tethering & portable hotspot. The hotspot shortcut in the swipe-down menu only works to turn tethering off, not to turn it on.
Did this get resolved? I'm running pure nexus and nfc not working for hotspot

[Guide] Silent mode for Android 5+ with Tasker

Hello,
Since Lollipop, the mute mode is no more available in Tasker. The silent mode has “Off” or “Vibrate”, but no more “On”. Fortunately, Tasker support Java to bring back this mute mode.
Here is the tip to create a task to enable the mute mode with Tasker in Android 5+
1- Create a new task named “Mute”
2- In this task, add 2 actions code / Java Function as pictures below. Use the icons mug and magnifying glass to select elements instead of write it.
To enable the mute mode, just call the task “Mute”
In attachement, the xml to be import in Tasker. To import, open the xml with Tasker, then open Tasker and tap on tasks tab on top, to import it.
Tested and works fine on Galaxy S6 firmware stock Lollipop with Tasker 4.8

Great sollution thanx
The same method can be solved if the device is not rooted in the mobile data traffic on / off?
I am making this Hungarian translator wrote apologies if incorrect.
Thanks a ton!!!
with this I can finally switch to total mute mode when my phone connects to my Gear S2.
although i had to add the exit state, ie to return to silent mode when the connection was severed. @philippe734 Is there a way to, modify the exit state so that a dialog pops up and we can choose between silent and sound mode, when the bluetooth connection to my watch is severed?
Thanks!
What is the difference between do not disturb mode and this method?
Here to get some post til 10
Sorry only write your post to get access to put my external link on my on forum
Works great on my rooted Galaxy S8. This is a great solution that doesn't require another app to be installed.
Can you suggest any change to go from silent mode to 4inger mode plz. Thanks by the way.
Thank you. It works on my Galaxy A52 5G SM-A526B/DS

New to Tasker: toggle Mobile Data + GPS on non-rooted device

Hi,
New to Tasker and am absolutely amazed by it's capabilities!
Got a new Galaxy S7, which I am unable to root at this point in time.
I really need a way to toggle Mobile Data and GPS on/off.
Did quite a bit of reading and searching and only found info for rooted devices. Even tried Secure Settings, which of course needs root to toggle them.
Is there ANY way I can toggle mobile data on/off without root???
GPS will be nice as well but less critical.
Will appreciate any help.
Y.
It can be done by using AutoInput but it would require the screen to be on.
I would also appreciate some help on this too, especially the autoinput method. I got parts of it to work, like opening location settings and clicking location on if off. But I'm having trouble creating the task if location is already on. Also, the exit task is giving me fits too because every time the task runs when I open maps, it exits the app to location settings to click the on location, thus activating the exit task before I even get to use the maps haha. It basically goes on a loop for me and can't figure it out. Any help on how to configure this would be appreciated.

If so, perhaps I can use the combination of Tasker and AutoInput to achieve toggling mobile data on off?
(I found Turn On under Display in Tasker but it has a cross on it so I don't think I can select it. Is there another plugin that will turn the screen on?... that is without root)

svampsson... That XML file is only for screen Brightness. I did try tinkering with it to have it work for location Toggle instead but it still gave me trouble. The global action on it would not go back to the app after toggling location on. Any ideas? Thanks for the help tho.
Hi,
I just installed tasker app on my Galaxy S7 Edge.
I tried to create a task to switch on GPS when running Pokemon App and then switch off once app is closed.
Task:
1. Launch App
App Pokemon Go Data %LOC
I run the task, as expected, it opens pokemon go app and 4G(gps) icon appears on the upper-left corner of my phone. But the icon won't disappear when I manually turn off the Location on Quick Settings.
Please help how to restore Location icon on-off.

Do you have root? It is very easy to turn high accuracy GPS ON/OFF with Secure settings-plugin. If no root you can do it with Autoinput.

Question Network Modes (5G-2G)

I just moved new from huawei to samsung. and on huawei they always had a shortcut to switch directly to 4G only. also when long pressing on the mobile data in quickpanel it took you directly to the setting page where you can change the network mode.
On samsung software i cant seem to find any shortcut to this except to go to settings > connections > mobile networks > network mode and change from there. I dont want to keep it at automatic because sometimes i am in poor reception areas and already have wifi so i need to force it to 2g only which has better reception. (to reduce battery drain)

I have set up a bixby routine to switch network modes, and you can put a button on your homepage.

Then Network mode (select what you want)
You can also make it revert when you unclick the button

I have found from the galaxy store the app called widget edge that would allow you to add widgets to the edge feature.
For now this solves my problem in a way. If you think of other solutions please let me know.
