Hi all
I've recently been experiencing a new problem with the camera on my Nokia 8, both stock app and the Google camera show the same issue.
After a random period of time the camera simply stops actually creating images. Everything from the UI perspective seems normal, i.e. the shutter sounds but no valid image is produced. Sometimes there if an all green image thumbnail shown, sometimes nothing.
I've tried:
#force stop on the camera
#clear storage
# Logcat shows errors in the output stream for the camera.
I'm on the latest pie build with the latest security patch applied.
Any help much appreciated.

Seems the HMD did some things with firmware, cause a few of users have a same problem so do I.
I dont know what we can do . Did you try to delete gcam ,reboot phone and start using just a stock cam.
I think the new firmware solve this problem, I hope so.

The only fix I've found to date is rebooting, and obviously that is often very impractical/inconvenient.
I try today to take some pictures and there was no problems but who now when the problem appear again.

I had a similar sounding issue a few months ago that turned out to be a hardware fault. Can you provide more details of the actual problem? Does the camera freeze for around 5 seconds at a time when used in well lit areas?
I had a similar problem. After I updated via OTA did not last a week and already had problems with the camera. My problem was that the camera did not start tried other camera apps and nothing worked. The phone was for assistance,.
Hello everyone,
I have a Galaxy S Advance Gt I1970, running under Android 4.1.2 (official update). the problem is when i try to play games that require the phone sensors, for example Angry Birds Go or Frisbee Forever, the player always go to the left, but then i tried "Ridiculous Fishing" which is also a game that require sensors and it works perfectly but this game doesn't rotate the phone to the landscape mode, then i tried an application called "accelerometer test" and the result was as expected, i can control the ball when am holding the phone in portrait position bust when it's in landscape, everything is missed up. Any advice please ?
thank you
Recalibrate horizontal sensor. Only in GingerBread you can do that recalibration, because it hapened to me and downgrade and recalibration is single solution i find it.
Good luck

Disable Stamina Mode - it happens only when in Stamina. Or press Power Button before pressing Camera Button. That way it will wake phone from Stamina Mode and then it shouldn't freeze on taking pictures.

Rubbish. I don't use Stamina mode and mine still does it almost every time I try and use the camera.
Same here, started happening recently with no identifiable cause. I don't use Stamina mode either.
I'm using a custom rom freeze after 10 minutes of filming
yesterday my AR effect didnt want to capture picture, after reboot it was working fine.
I think there is something messed up in memory "cache" when you use a phone lot of time without shutdown or restart.

Hi i have the same problem with my z1's camera. Whenever i reboot my phone most of the apps crash, the camera will freeze and i cant open my album, im also having issues transfering files to sd card from internal memory. I really love this phone so i really need help about this, dunno what happend because it used to run perfectly.
Same problem here, Occurred today.
After restarting phone, camera works perfectly again
I have no idea what to do.
Best to provide a logcat or something that can help fix your issues. Use 'adb logcat > filename.txt' or google if you don't know how to logcat
☺
Hi, i Google logcat and i cant understand what it's for.. Im confused.. ? can you explain a bit about logcat.. If it's okay with you..
camera totally freeze...
Im using c6903 14.4.a.0.157 rooted... Before i root my phone, my stock camera was working fine. But after i root it, it just freeze every time i take picture. But when im using 3rd prty apps it works although it'll take me 5-10 secs before it take picture... I've been searching all over the web for a fix but cant find any.... Hope someone can help,me out here... TIA...
this problem appeared first on android kitkat, so if you want perfect camera, you have to go back to .290 jelly bean.
in kitkat it appears often on .757 but it got a lot better on .108 and later.
this freeze is caused by a wrong memory managment. if you choose the internal memory instead of external sd card, you camera wont freeze
P.S with .157 this problem should be fixed

Well thats a very common problem with 108.. The same was happening with me when i had 108.. All you need to do is update to 157. Even if you see the changelog for 157 it clearly states improvements in the camera.. Believe me this is what you need to do. Hope this helps
if i am not wrong , this problem has been fixed in .157. When i was on .108 stock , i had issues when i opened the camera from lock screen or using the camera button.
But after .157, i no longer face any issues when i open the camera from lock screen. sadly, the camera button still sometimes causes the problem u described above......

I am not much interested in camera when i bought Mi A2, it works fine. but recently when i was taking picture, it was half side blur and i was not able to make focus on upper side of camera. i tried all modes but no use. I have Note 6 Pro and it's camera functions and focus properly.
in mi A2 I observed when in MANUAL mode i select Lens as LOW LIGHT, it works (but in manual mode only).
do any one has some solution or give reason to behave camera like this.
Same here
It was a February patch bug and it seems to persist in March patch... Xiaomi.

This is a hardware problem, I also had this, give the phone a guarantee.
P.S. sorry for english(
How so we both have exactly the same problem and mine started with pie?
Looks like this is a hardware issue, I'm having the same problem after 4 months of use.
Same here, I also took it to guarantee and they told me it was a software problem, but when they gave it back to me nothing had changed. Camera still not working

I had ordered it from this website but I had paid the cheapest shipping, I'm from Mexico so it will take a while to arrive to my country.. maybe next month..
I had the same problem and replaced the camera module with a new one, and the problem was fixed... temporarily because 3 months after it started happening again with the new camera, so either I am super unlucky, or it must be some other defect in the phone that tends to breaks the primaey cameras...
At this point I don't think I am going to replace it again. Do you know of any way of recording videos with the low light camera?
I have the same issue. In fact this issue persists in the video mode as well. Its okay for videos of objects nearby but move even a few metres away and it becomes very difficult to focus. I was at this concert and wanted to record the performance but only got a very blurry video with muffled sound. For photos this issue is especially an inconvenience when taking photographs of documents etc where you could very well do without the unnecessary bokeh effect. In MANUAL mode this does reduce a bit, but not to any extent that helps.
I was just told by a friend that installing the Google camera mod might help, but I'm yet to try it out.
I have same problem with upper side blur. Seems that switching to "manual" mode and change "lens" from "regular" to "low light", as said by the original user. It works fine with me. Thanks for the tips ! ........ so it is not the hardware problem, it is a software problem. Changing camera may not work ! Don't know if they are going to release new firmware to solve it or not ?? Any idea how to upgrade the firmware ?

If it is a hardware problem I do not see why it would prevent using the secondary camera, it can be a problem with the lenses (Have you thrown or hit your phone?) and not with the module. There are those who have returned to Oreo and the problem persists.
My sister has a MI A2 and there's something wrong with his camera. As you can see on the sample photo always focus bottom of picture. If I use manual mode it is better but not perfect at all and manual focus doesn't help neither. Pls if you have some advice or anything, help.

You can try hard reset it or flash new firmware. Or you can try Gcam to see if the problem fixed.. If you've tried all of this, and still have issues mean your camera is faulty

And what if camera is faulty? Can I buy a replacement?
I think this is not a problem. Because the blur is gradually increase from near to far. This is natural blur create by portrait mode. The software of mi a2 something click photos in portrait mode when the portrait mode is not enable. Just try to put device in safe mode then go to camera app and go to manual mode. Enable manual focus and then focus it manual and then suddenly move the bar to auto mode this will fix the camera's focusing issue if it is present.
