I may be spending a long time in the UK before my 2-year contract is up (study abroad). If I leave the country for an extended period of time, will Sprint unlock my One so I can use a local SIM while I'm there?
No because that sim card isn't for gsm networks its just for the lte on sprint. The way lte works it requires a sim card to work

I thought the HTC One was the first Sprint phone where you can take out the UICC (SIM), the rest, i.e. the SGS3 and EvoLTE, have an integrated UICC. So the EvoLTE does have a SIM, its just tucked inside where you cant remove it (not without modifying the unit itself anyways).

That I'm not sure about. It's above my understanding lol. I do know I don't have a sim card I can take out and the HTC one is an international phone but I guess the world bands aren't up and running yet.

Its internal. All Sprint LTE phones need a UICC. Check your about phone settings, your ICCID should be your UICC.

It does have a sim card in it, that is why there is a sim card punched out in the package. If you have a sim card ejecter, you would put it in the tiny hole next to the sim tray and it would eject the sim card out.

The EvoLTE has an internal SIM, youre not gonna see it. The first Sprint phone that has a swappable SIM is the HTC One. The SGS3, EvoLTE, Note II, LG Optimus -among others- all have a SIM inside of them.

That's not 100% accurate. Before it started with its LTE upgrade, Sprint did offer some phones that had swappable SIMs.

Alright, let me fix it: the first LTE phone with a removable SIM is the HTC One.

"This model of the One supports Sprint's 3G (CDMA 800/850/1900) and LTE (1900 only) networks, along with GSM/EDGE on 850/900/1800/1900 and HSPA 14.4 on the 1900 and 2100MHz bands. That means this phone will roam internationally at 3G speeds. In theory, you could unlock it to work poorly on AT&T's and T-Mobile's networks, but it wouldn't be able to take advantage of fast speeds on either. "
It wont work in TMobile USA. It doesnt have the 1700 band.

That information may not be correct. According to the FCC filings there is no mention of the 850/1900 GSM bands.
EDIT: See my post here about what GSM frequencies the Sprint Variant has.

The Evo 4G LTE (as well as all Sprint LTE phones) has a SIM card, it's just embedded and not visible.
I'm looking at getting one of these bad boys to read my 64gb sd card out of my note 2.

howdy folks,
from what i have read these new generation of sprint phones with sim cards only store the login info for the LTE data connection, is that correct? the sprint cards are just basically RUIM cards right, but the slot can accept gsm cards for gsm network usage?
if i understand right they still have the voice and text account info on the phone correct? so why do they need the sim to operate? i'm just a little confused because my old world phones, TP2 and OZONE could operate without the sim in them?
thanks in advance
cheers,
disco

It's for the Lte/4g the phone can continue to use voice and 3g/2g without it though. Simple as that.

Don't forget that it's also used for international roaming.
SIM is needed for activation but yeah LTE is a GSM technology

So I picked up an unlocked XT1053 GSM developer edition a month or so ago. I got on Net10 and everything seems fine except for one issue.
When I am in an HSPA+ area and come into a known LTE area the phone doesn't seem to switch to LTE right away. If I toggle airplane mode on and off I get full LTE with good signal and it holds strong until I'm back in a weak area. If I am in an LTE area for a while after about 30 min or so it will finally switch on it's own, but I would think it should be much faster without using airplane mode. Anyone have any ideas?
Call your service provider and provide them your IMEI so they can provision your device.

LTE works on my phone though, it just doesn't switch right away. It seems like if HSPA+ is even one dB better then it stays on it. If I toggle airplane mode I get strong LTE. Is that a provisioning issue?
Is there a way with APNs or anything to make LTE take priority if it's present?
It could be the provisioning. You sim may not be fully provisioned. If that doesn't fix it.
You can change it to lte only.
Install a app called any cut. Create a short cut for testing. Select the first option and at the bottom change it lte only. See if it works. If not then the network isn't allowing iy

Well I ordered an actual nano Sim from net10 since they just got them. It will be here tomorrow so I'm sure that when I transfer my service to it my account will get provisioned. If I still have problems I'll try what you mentioned.

Hi guys, just wanted to check if any of you are using this either in india or in the UK on o2?
Had the mi note (not pro - the sd801 version) and in most cases the dual sim worked but not with certain carriers in the UK,italy and india. Basically sim 2 would just not work - xiaomi advised it was a result of having only one imei. A lot of international carriers don't allow a single imei to be used by two different sim cards (whether the same carrier or different carrier) more reading here
http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=84545&extra=page=6&page=6&mobile=2
Is this issue still present in the note pro?

Yes was on holiday no signal with o2 so bought P&G EE and when I was a good reception area could use both without issues that I was aware of.
I used India SIM in India with UAE SIM on roaming. Worked fine for me. Below is observation. Any questions?!
UAE SIM - 1
- Phone worked in roaming throughout - incoming calls & SMS
India AIRTEL SIM - 2
- Phone worked in roaming in another state
- Data 2g worked in roaming in another state - I subscribed only to 2g on first 2 days
- Phone worked in normal in native state
- Data (2g & 3g) worked in normal in native state - I subscribed to 3g after 2g was finished
