[SOLVED] Redmi 4x cannot enter access recovery - Xiaomi Redmi 4X Questions & Answers

Hello,
I've left my wife phone aside for awhile because I'm stuck for the first time on an android Phone :
RR android N v5.8.5 (7.1.2_r29)
I can't access recovery either through :
magisk > modules > reboot recovery doesnt work
button press combination doesn't work
adb reboot bootloader doesnt work
It seems ADB disable itself phone side after each reboot.
Fastboot through volume down + power does work but the phone is then not recognised through adb
At the time of writing magisk says my version of magisk isn't recognised and I cant therefore use it.
So I cant su root in local terminal.
From MIUI to RR i never had any trouble but it seems at one point in 2017 a firmware or something else broke something.
Any of you could help me ? I read different thread closely related but didn't found the solution yet.
Hope to read from you soon.
Have a nice day.
[UPDATE1]
I installed an old magisk manaer (6.1.0) my magisk version is 17.1
As I havent got recovery I cannot update magisk even through flashify
[UPDATE2]
I was about to install windows in a VM to try smth with MiFlash when suddenly I could finally communicate with the redmi through fastboot.
From the beginning the problem has always been with connector which led to this problem.
The connector constantly connect and disconnects so it's quite hard to maintain or gain connection from adb or fastboot aswell as charging the phone.
I'll look into changing it.

I am quite confused about what is going on with your device and cant understand what exactly going on.
Anyways what is current state of your device? which ROM it has now? is your device able to boot into fastboot mode?(to enter fastboot mode turn off device and then press and hold volume down + power button together) and then flash latest or your choice of recovery.
you can enter into recovery mode by turning on power menu buttons. if you are on RR then it should be in RR settings or somewhere there.
Just look for advance reboot turn that on and then you will see new option available when pressing and holding power button. choose advanced reboot > recovery and your phone will reboot into recovery.
also there is notification toggle is also available if isn't there then add it by using edit icon on notification shade.
if you are on MIUI then go to update and choose reboot to recovery by tapping on three dots on top right corner. if reboot to recovery does not shows then tap MIUI icon several times and then it'll show.

Problem with Download Mode

Long story short, I have the I8190L version of the phone, currently on stock ROM. I got the phone a few weeks ago and I have rooted it right away, there were no problems while rooting, I used the Galaxy S3 mini toolkit and used the "Flash Insecure Boot Image and Root device" option, with SuperSU 1.25. Fast forward to right now, I want to install CyanogenMod, so I went and tried to boot my phone into Download Mode, to try and flash CWM recovery in order to install the Cyanogen ROM, but I simply can't start download mode, when connected to the USB pressing the Vol up + menu + power sequence, the phone just starts normally (The OS will load completely). adb reboot download doesn't work too, vol up + vol down + power and plugging in the usb cable doesn't work.. I did several hard resets and I removed root too, noone of those worked. I don't know if that is relevant, but I installed a patched google play (4.1.10 Chelpus version), I could not find a way to remove that. I can't reroot too because I would need to start my phone in download mode. Anyone knows what is happening?

are you connecting your phone to PC before you go to download-mode???
try this: download-mode (Vol up + Menu + Power) and now connect your device with your computer!
flash CWM or whatever you want...

That did not work, when it is about to go to download mode it seems that it fails and either boots the OS or just turns off (depends on how much I hold the buttons), and since adb reboot download doesn't work I think something got corrupted (adb finds the device and reboots it, but it just starts up normally).
I'm not sure why, but noone of the articles I read mentioned the actual CORRECT download mode sequence, which is: Volume Down + Home + Power buttons, and then click on Volume Up, it is working now. Thanks.

Well if you looked at the screen you would know what to press after vol down+home+power
oh my God,
you are all right.
i mixed up step one and two of Download-Mode - sorry
first you have to push Vol Down + Menu + Power (few seconds)
start odin as admin
second you connect your device to PC
third you push Vol Up
fourth you flash via Odin.
I often flash ROMs via Odin and / or use CWM so that works automatically ....

[Q] Rooting HTC One Mini 2

Is the One Mini 2 possible to root? I've seen a lot saying 'not yet', but it's all fairly old. If so, is there a tutorial/walkthrough somewhere?

yes root its possible for htc one mini 2.
1- use htc dev website to unlock bootloader and choose all other supported phones. Follow directions.
2-Flash recovery TWRP and flash superuser.zip.
Google it or find in forum tutorials for 2nd step.
I've tried searching, but all I can find is either out of date and stating there's no solution yet, or applies to the original Mini, not the Mini 2.

I got that, it's the "flash TWRP and superuser.zip" that's the issue.

1- Download the TWRP Recovery file here and copy it to the C:/Unlock folder created in the Bootloader Unlock Tutorial or the folder you use for HTC unlock
2- Now use the Shortcut “Windowskey + R” and type cmd into the textfield. Press OK to start the Shell.cmd
3- Now we need to navigate to our Unlock Folder by using the command “cd c:/Unlock“ (without “”) and pressing enter
4- Power off your HTC One Mini and boot it back up while holding the Volume Down and Power-Key until you see the bootloader
5- Select “Fastboot” with the volume keys and press power to select
6- Connect your HTC One Mini through original usb to your pc
7- In the Command-Window enter the command „fastboot flash recovery "twrp-2.7.1.0-20140802-memul.img“ (without „“) and press enter
8- The Installation should only take a few seconds and will give a short reports at the end
9- Your HTC One Mini should now have the TWRP Custom Recovery installed
TWRP will try flash SuperUser, it didnt work for me so,
Send UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip to sdcard and use TWRP to flash it
You must have updated drivers (install htc sync) and original usb cable.

I got TWRP in. None of the buttons worked. Eventually the screen went blank, I powered back on and just got a 'swipe to unlock' screen. Couldn't swipe, either. So...somehow the touchscreen isn't working?

Try and reboot the phone by holding volume down and power for 10 seconds.
That doesn't do anything. Seems like the only button that does anything is power, and that just turns the screen on if it's off, or to full brightness if it's dimmed (which it does for a second or two before turning off).
I've kept the screen on and managed to run the battery down to 52%. My plan at this point is to run it completely flat, forcing the phone to shut down, then charge it up a bit and see if I can boot. Beyond that, I'm out of ideas and even if I manage to reboot I don't see how TWRP's going to magically start working.
It boots into Android by default, right? And you have to use the Fastboot menu to get to TWRP? No idea how I got to it the first time, actually, and it's been years since I've used it on my old phone.
EDIT: It's TWRP v2.7.1.0. According to the website, the newest version, 2.8.0.0 "[fixes] a bug that caused weird graphics and touch issues". Should I be using this version instead? It doesn't seem to support the Mini 2.
Check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394744
Try holding power under a bright light..
turn screen off. and under bright light turn it back on. see if it works
No dice. Down to 15% battery at this point anyway, shouldn't be too much longer before it's flat. Then, fingers crossed it works.
How do I get back to TWRP? Fastboot then select 'recovery' (I think I recall that being one of the options)?

just to be on the safe side, i would stay in fastboot and re-flash TWRP
The battery finally went flat, but then as soon as I plugged the phone in it booted into TWRP...which still doesn't work. Have unplugged it again. No idea where to go from here. Tried the "adb reboot bootloader" command from the thread you linked to, and all it did was boot right back into TWRP.

this happened to me, just hold power + vol down + vol up for 10 seconds, phone will reboot.
edit: whilst doing this dont have the usb plugged in. I have noticed having the usb plugged in, a restart sends it straight back to twrp - hence the same issue.
It reboots straight into TWRP when plugged into either the wall or my computer, and just shuts down when not plugged in at all. Can't get it to boot at all, with either volume down + power or just power, but the second I plug it in it boots TWRP.

ok try, plugging laptop usb port and hold power + vol down + vol up together for 10secs.
Left it plugged in for a while, let the battery build up, and managed to get it booted into Android. So that's a start, at least.
So: fastboot, "fastboot erase recovery" then "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img"?

fastboot flash recovery twrp.img should override. i would also download another version just in case that one is corrupted
this is where i got it originally

You mean another version from another source, or another copy via that link? Not sure where else to get a copy; I assume you get links from the TWRP website after selecting your phone model but the HTC One Mini 2 isn't listed.
I saw somewhere that simply overriding could cause problems, therefore it's best to erase first?

Check post above this.
TWRP for htc one mini 2 its not yet avaiable in the site, so this is custom.
I have send another file mega https://mega.co.nz/#!C9sRXCAC!OKDm7Df5o95elxtSnF19hiLgsjKn8nq0KplYL9KriIc and changed instructions
or you can get it from the forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-mini-2/orig-development/recovery-twp-2-7-1-0-one-mini-2-t2801370

Alternative ways to open recovery

Hey guys, My victara's volume buttons (both) stopped working after a drop. I was flashing a new rom in it today and forgot about this detail, then, I wiped the wrong partition via TWRP and got a boot loop (easily fixable, when possible) but now I can't enter on my recovery without the volume buttons. I've tried doing it via adb of fastboot but none of them recognized my device. There is a third way to open recovery or bootloader?
When I reset it with USB plugged in, it turns the green led on for 2 or 3 seconds and go back to bootlooping
I was able to fix my volume buttons with some silver tape on the connector and everything is back to normal now
If you are rooted, there are a variety of apps that will reboot into recovery or bootloader. I use ROM Toolbox Pro, but there are others
Adb wait-for-device reboot recovery
Issue this command without the device plugged in. Then plug the powered down device in and it should go right to recovery. It's a good trick to keep around for the future.
I haven't seen that command before. Nice one.

How to run TWRP on P10 VTR-L09?

As a newbie hoping to root my P10, I have just entered a magical world that is confusing to me. After reading many posts about installing TWRP on the P10, I have no success running TWRP: all I get is the stock EMUI recovery.
Am I missing a secret maneuver?
This is what I did:
1. Unlocked
2. Powered Off and On
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-vtr.img
3. Power Off
4. Try to Power On with Power + either Vol Up or Vol Down for a few seconds
Each time, I get EMUI Recovery instead of TWRP.
Would love some insights on that. Huge thanks in advance for any gentle guidance you can give.
Try to unplug the usb before you boot into recovery.
This should work.
To get root use the magisk tutorial. It's the safest method and you can hide it from apps.
Thank you for your advice, @Hamburg.
Oddly, the device still boots to EMUI Recovery instead of TWRP.
Same when I use
fastboot flash recovery twrp_3.1.1_fromfuture.img
First there is a screen that says that the device is unsafe because it has been unlocked, and to press the Up Volume for three seconds to enter recovery. That's when it boots into EMUI Recovery.
Shortcut combination is tricky to enter recovery, it usually require several attempts to get it right. With these devices, after logo, it is vol down + power again if I do not remember wrong (not just volume). Check the button combination again, just I case
Don't press the volume down button when the bootloader screen tells it.
Start the phone with this instructions:
Press and hold the power button until the phone vibrates, press and hold volume down and release the power button.
Hold the volume button until twrp shows up.
The Bootloader screen will also be present but will show you something linke "booting recovery" instantly.
If you get to the UI you can also boot into TWRP with the ADB and Fastboot Tools "adb reboot recovery".
I flashed TWRP 3.1.0 and it worked fine.
Maybe you can also start the recovery image from Fastboot directly by "fastboot boot recovery [VariableNameofTWRP].IMG"
Thank You!!!
Thank you so much @Jannomag and @ChipCollector !
Both of your instructions work (on my phone with Volume Up instead of Down).
In case someone else is reading, here are the full details to load TWRP on this particular phone.
1. Unlock
- get unlock code from https://www.emui.com/en/plugin/unlock/detail
- adb reboot bootloader
- fastboot oem unlock UNLOCK_CODE_FROM_THIS_URL
2. Install TWRP
- Remove cable, reboot, plug in
- adb reboot bootloader
- fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-vtr.img
( substitute your image name, e.g. twrp_3.1.1_fromfuture.img )
3. Run TWRP
Unplug, power off, then EITHER
- Remove cable
- First Option:
--- reboot, plug in
--- adb reboot recovery
- Second Option:
--- press Power until the phone vibrates
--- immediately press Volume Up and hold, quickly release power, keep holding Volume Up until the TWRP screen appears.
Now I'm at the scary place where I have to do make the right choice and not brick this thing.
The question is answered, so I will ask my next question in a different post.
Huge thanks!!! :good:
Hi guys, who has a working link for a P10 (Emui 9) TWRP image?
Thank you in advance

Unable to enter Recovery mode after reboot from twrp or stock recovery.

Moin,
My phone was one day suddenly unable to boot into system nor Recovery, but could still enter fastboot.
Took me a while to figure out that USB Hubs let flash attempts fail too. (you can watch the drama in my older posts)
Now i was able to flash System back into a workable state and it looks like that recovery is also successful flashed.
BUT...i can enter recovery only ONCE per Vol - and Power on Button.
i have NO OTHER WAY to enter Recovery at all. i have no reboot option in system (LOS 18.1).
In fastboot/adb command and after one succsesfull reboot per keys, it always stuck after the Sony logo into a black screen. i then have to restart it into system with Vol+ and Power (one vibration) or shut down with vol+ and power for 6 seconds (three vibration) to get it either into fastboot (Vol+ and USB connect) or system again. then i have to flash it again to get into TWRP once. i tryed the latest twrp version (3.7.0) and one older version (3.3.1) that had once worked until the phone broke.
Any idea what is going wrong here. i have already try to completly wipe everything from the phone and try to fix SEL Linux in twrp. nothing seems to work. Did i miss something?
/€: Now it is again in the full broken state. recovery nor System won't boot anymore and end in a black screen.
/€²: Found the Problem: my lilca zip was polluted with altered files i forgot about.
