Note 9 SM-N960U - Pie Update - No Internet While Calling - No LTE - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I recently upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 SM-N960U to Android Pie 9.0 - One UI Version: 1.0 - Baseband Version: N960USQS1CSD1 - Build Number: PPR1.180610.011.N960USQs1CSD1 - Security Patch: April 1, 2019 and now i cannot surf the internet while on a call, and don't have LTE as well. I've been searching the web trying to find the resolution.
I will reluctantly downgrade back to Oreo 8.1 if needed and have Odin downloaded but finding all the correct software needed to do so plus the Oreo 8.1 version for my model is a pain as well, and i haven't done this for sometime either.
Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks ahead of time!

arent there any May patches ?(btw june updates should be right around the corner...if not alredy out)
so pretty sure there is. just flash a may or june update.
you can download stock firmware via web sites which can be slow or via frija:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/tool-frija-samsung-firmware-downloader-t3910584
then extract zip when its finished dling and flash via odin 3.13.1
there is more than enough documentation about all of this in xda,google,YouTube....etc
so all in all try and flash a new firmware instead of an old one.
try resetting ure device also( wipe data) before flashing.

What carrier are you on? Sprint/Verizon/At&t/Tmobile?

xaa wont have any bloatware(extra crap apps) but might be missing carrier specifics like volte, wificalling and other feature specific to Verizon .
start with VZW and if that works out well then stay on it.
so u should have entered in the app:
SM-N960U
and
VZW
once the big 3 or 4 gig zip is finsied dling, extract it and in odin fill in all corresponding Slots...BL,AP,CP,CSC
for csc use csc.md5 and not home_csc.md5 for best results. but it also might erase all ure data so be sure to backup ure stuff first.
also, ull need samsung android drivers so that odin recognize the phone under a com X device when u plug it in.( odin will show it connected as com and a number.)
https://mega.nz/#!V5JzBSyL!ThSDNSn5-4iTJ6rJKlCeN1l1z9gBDM7UnPBdgbRn0zk
edit u can also install samsung smart switch have the drivers auto install and use the software to backup fone. so that might the best case for you

sammobile is very slow.
try updato.com
thers an other utility:
samfirm tool 0.3.6
i needs some dot .net and or vcredist versions to be installed though. i think the log window would state which you need:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647

Updato is garbage too.

samfrew maybe?
anyways both samfirm tool and frija work fine and fast for me..

Update: Note 9 SM-N960U - Pie Update - No Internet While Calling - No LTE
I figured I'd post a update. I never had luck with Pie period. Been reading VoLTE has been disabled on Pie updates but still available.. I don't have it. So it's either go back to Oreo or find a app that I can access it and enabled it. Either way, thanks for all the comments...

[Guide] Change Note 9 CSC Without Root - Easy Guide

I followed a guide by XDA User applepay from this link, but just wanted to try and simplify it because i found it pretty complicated to understand at first.
It would be worth reading that thread before this even if it doesn't make sense. Please also read this complete thread before you attempt it.
I have only followed the guide so i can't answer any questions to help. I am not responsible for any problems you run into. This is just a guide of what I did to get mine to work.
I was successful using my SM-N960F going from CSC XME to TEL.
I cannot confirm that this method will work on other models, but i don't see why not considering the guide was originally for a S9.
Make sure you select your exact model when downloading files and flashing files. Using other model firmware may brick your phone.
Backup your files! I used Smart Switch on windows. This method will wipe your phone in the process.
Use the original usb cable you got in the box and install the Samsung USB drivers if you haven't already.
I have confirmed on my device that OTA updates work fine after this procedure.
Please comment if you think there is a better way or there is an error in this guide.
Download your combination file from here
Download your new CSC firmware from here
Download Samsung Odin 3.13.1 from here
Download RealTerm from here
1. Open Odin.
Click AP and select your combination file.
Put your Note 9 into download mode by turning it off completely, then holding the volume down and bixby buttons while inserting the usb cable. Confirm that you want to enter download mode.
Click start in Odin.
Once this is complete, your phone should boot into the combination firmware and show your model number. Close Odin.
2. Open RealTerm and go to Port tab.
Set Baud to 230400 and Select Port to ssudmdm0000 or very similar name.
Click the change button.
Go to Send tab.
Enter "AT" and click Send ASCII.
If you get a response like
"+USB READY
BOOTING COMPLETED
AT"
or
"AT"
or
"OK"
or
"BOOTING COMPLETED
AT"
Proceed to the next number.
If you didn't get a response click +CR and send again.
If you get a response like "ERROR" proceed to the next number.
Still if you didn't get a response check your phone status and cable status.
If everything is normal proceed to the next number.
If still you didn't get a response it means your phone or cable is not normal status.
3. Enter "AT+PRECONFG=1,0" and click Send ASCII.
You will get this response.
AT+PRECONFIG=1,0+PRECONFG:1,???
OK
-??? is your current CSC.-
4. Enter "AT+PRECONFG=2,???" and click Send ASCII.
Enter ??? you want to change to another CSC.
You will get this response.
AT+PRECONFG=2,???+PRECONFG:2,OK
OK
-??? is your changed CSC.-
5. Enter "AT+PRECONFG=1,0" and click Send ASCII.
You will get this response.
AT+PRECONFIG=1,0+PRECONFG:1,???
OK
-??? is your changed, current CSC.-
6. CSC change is now complete. You can now close RealTerm.
7. Open Odin again.
Turn your phone off and then put it into download mode again by holding the volume down and Bixby buttons, then plugging the usb cable in.
Fill each field (BL, AP, CP and CSC) with their respective files from the firmware which has the new CSC.
Use the CSC file in the CSC field, not HOME_CSC.
Click start. This will now wipe your phone completely.
8. Your phone should boot into android and everything should be complete!
Enjoy using VoLTE, VoWiFi and RCS!
Many thanks! Will give it a go.

Yeah this is for unrooted devices
Hmm, will this allow my unrooted n960f/ds to flash the TMB CSC and work? Or does this just let you change to another CSC within the multi CSC?

Odin still won't let you flash firmware files from an other phone model. which is a good thing since csc.md5 contains a pit file that is very much phone model specific....you dont want that. home_csc.md5 dosent but regardless Odin should still throw an error. I wouldint be game to test with the prince Comey edition of Odin that allows you to do this forcefully apply wrong model firmware file. might work... or not
how about future OTAs after ? if I flashed TMO csc will I get all TMO OTAs in future ?
@laneyyy i need to select combinations file Odion in AP right ? I guess I have to downgrade my firmware first Odin don't let me flash I have the last one firmware

My phone was up to date before I used the latest combination file for my model on that site. I didn't get any errors about downgrading.
As far as OTAs, I'm not sure yet, but worst case is you just need to flash new firmwares by Odin. I think it's definitely worth the trade off to get volte, vowifi and RCS if that's the case

Software update problems.

I have two s10+ devices, one has received software updates a few days after the release, however, my other device does not receive software updates. When the device was purchased, it received one software update, I had to factory reset the device not too long after that. After factory resetting I haven't had any updates, I had to flash the April update via Odin, the other device has already received the May update, and this one even after searching says software is up to date. I've tried Samsung smart switch as well, and it says the same. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks for any assistance.

I wonder if both of your devices are from the same region. You can go to Sammobile website and check the firmware info for your device that rarely gets updates. It will show the latest update available for that region/device

Both are from the same region, I flashed the April update via Odin after downloading the firmware from Sammobile. I just would rather not have to flash updates all the time via Odin. It only received one update, and then nothing ever since. The only thing I did after receiving the one update is factory reset the device and eventually switching carriers. I'm wondering if that could be why, but the other device I purchased is on the same carrier, and it gets the updates very quickly, both are factory unlocked devices.

Interesting. Haven't had that happen to me.
1) Which carrier are you using right now?
2) What is the model # of your phone and which CSC code, XAA or another one? - how can I locate your phone's firmware on Sammobile site?

I'm currently on the Bmobile network as I'm from Trinidad. The device that gets updated, the Software service provider is listed as TPA/TTT, TPA/TPA. The device that doesn't get it is listed as TTT/TTT, TTT/TPA. Both are on the same network. I downloaded the April update from Sammobile, the one listed here: firmwares/galaxy-s10-plus/SM-G975F/EON/download/G975FXXU1ASD5/267193/

Use attached SamFirm tool to search and download what you need and in your case it is either EON or TPA. You can start from flashing EON firmware and see if it will help you get updates or from TPA, your choice.
1) I would advice you to remove sim card from your phone
2) Use backup/restore in your phone's settings(if you need it) to back up your phone. Then do "reset" option in your phone settings to wipe it
3) After phone comes to "welcome screen", turn it off and put it in download mode for Odin and put 4 files where they belong and the rest you know...I personally use CSC files instead of HOME_CSC as I like to wipe the whole phone(you can try home_csc first if you so desire)
I also included the screenshot with your model and CSC code in it. Just check for update in the tool and you can change the EON to TPA if you need another firmware.
If you could take a screenshot of your software info screen, where it shows TTT/TTT/.... stuff and also after you click check for update on your phone, I wonder how the screen looks like where it tells you "software up to date"

I see that on the night mode device, the firmware is TTT and on the other is TPA. I think the TTT doesn't get the update, so use the tool and download TPA and flash your phone. If everything is good, I believe you should be receiving updates.

Remove the sim, factory reset the device. After that it will restart and boot to welcome screen. Put phone into download mode, start Odin, connect your phone, add files, flash firmware. After your phone restarts, it should be at the welcome screen. Now put your sim and see if you get any message that tells you something about "carrier settings..." which is good, then it will restart

So I downloaded the TPA firmware and flashed it, I also followed your instructions with regards removing the sim. When I reinserted the sim, no carrier settings showed up, and the software version still shows TTT, so I'm guessing the lack of software updates will continue.

I just saw the image. Flash again. For my phone, I had to flash 3 or 4 times before it changed the SW version. I used 3 different Odin versions as well.
Use Odin version that I attached here too. You need to flash and make sure the SAOMC_SM-G975F_OXM_TTT changes to TPA

Do I need to flash it clean once again with the CSC, or can I use Home_CSC to keep my settings as I've already started to set the phone up again. And mind if I ask what the difference in the versions of Odin are?

1) I mostly use regular CSC file as I like to clean everything, but try Home first, then regular csc if you don't like setting up the phone. Don't setup the phone next time until you get positive results
2) So I used "Odin3_v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD" that I included in the thread and also used Odin 3.13.1 and 3.13.3
3) If after flashing again, it won't change the firmware, then do this: get EON firmware, flash on your phone following the list of steps as you did previously.
4) Put the sim card in and see if there are any messages about carrier updates. This message is a good indication that firmware is getting changed(unless on international model message is different from US version)
5) Check the SW version in settings and then you will need to flash TPA firmware again, which should give you proper results.
I had to flash XAA firmware, then TMB to make my phone change to TMB and it took me multiple tries

Ok, I'll try flashing a couple times. To be honest, I only started setting up the phone as I thought that was all that could be tried, didn't know there was some hope of it working after all. If I don't get to flash the EON firmware tonight, I'll be sure to try it tomorrow in hope that it actually changes. I think once it changes it should work, because the other s10+ and even the s8+ both have TPA and they're both unlocked on the same carrier. I have no idea why this one would have switched. As far as I can tell there isn't any TTT firmware for the S10+, there is one for the normal S10 however, so I'm really not sure.

Note 9 SM-N960F/DS Firmware problem.

I have a Note 9 SM-N960F/DS model. I bought it from KSA (Saudi Arabia). The phone came with Android Pie (9) out of the box.
Unfortunately my friend rooted my phone and now i am running on "N960FXXU3CSFA/N960FOXM3CSFA/N960FXXU3ASF1" version with "Security patch level: 1 June 2019". I am unable to use my Samsung account and all the security features (finger print, Ratina scanner, Face recognition etc).
When i switch back to original firmware i.e
PDA N960FXXU3CSG1
CSC N960FOXM3CSG1
i got all the features functioning but my SIM card shows "Emergency calls only".
Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, My friend took my phone and told me that he will make it compliant with our local network and make it approved from the Telecommunication authority.
He has downgraded the phone with older firmware version i.e N960FXXU3CSFA/N960FOXM3CSFA,N960FXXU3ASF1. The security patch level is 1 June 2019
I have checked the Knox e-fuse which is not tripped which means its an official ROM and not altered.
Now, i have the latest firmware version downloaded i.e N960FXXS3CSG1 but when i try to install it in my phone it does not recognize my SIM card and phone is in "Emergency calls Only" state.

not sure how you check knox but if he really rooted then its too late and knox cannot state cant be reverted.
typically checking via software is not a good method . going to download mode and checking warranty state 0x0 means is not tripped. anything different means it been tripped/blown.
anyways that dosen't make you phone have no signal though.
i suspect he screwed up the twrp recovery flash procedure for twrp and botched the flash back to stock via odin.
read up on odin and how to use it. get latest version.(search and read)
read up so on how to get latest firmware for your phone and which csc your carrier is so that you can download the correct firmware and have best results for your sim carrier.( in doubt try BTU csc firmware)(but search and read about the subject of phone types firmwares and CSC)
also the firmwares your quoted seem old. not sure why you ended up using it but you should get one that is from july.
E.G.:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note9/firmware/SM-N960F/BTU/
(get the most recent! july 25th)( u can dl odin from there too)
on your PC, install samsung android drivers or simply install samsung smart switch. it will install the necessary components.
in it self smart switch can flash firmware automatically for your device. so you might want to try it first.
if you go towards the odin flash route and found the correct firmware or want to try BTU multi csc as suggested above:
put phone in download mode and unzip on PC firmware and flash with odin BL,AP,CP and CSC. But for csc choose csc.md5 instead of home_csc.md5
(be patient while AP is being checked before adding cp and csc)
edit: details steps on odin flashing procedure below

last but not least don't listen to your friend or let him close to your phone again. reading and searching on xda is much better. everything has been already asked. you just need to search for it.

I haven't try SmartSwitch for N9 but worth to try as it should be able to detect proper csc for your phone.
Else find the latest firmware for your phone with Frija/Samfirm then flash with odin.

well may be your friend tried to change IMEI of phone which is illegal in any country. Match your IMEI with box by dialing *#06#, if IMEI are same then no need to worry. you need to register your phone IMEI with PTA by paying tax. after paying tax they will whitelist the IMEI of your phone and you will be able to make calls.
just for information, my note 9 is also brought from Saudi Arabia, but at that time one device was free, so i got my phone registered by providing my travel details to PTA and they whitelisted my phone.
Please guide me solution.

+1 using cho firmware
guys just use samfirm tool 0.3.6 on your PC to check for the update. no need to ask or post if its out or not:
enter as device model:
SM-960N
And Region: dosent really matter but u can choose the carrier that the device is from:
LUC
KOO input this one if unsure
SKC
KTC
or choose the one with the latest fimrware/date code
(but rightnow only May is available)
check regularly as the app seems to connect to samsung servers so it will be the first place for the firmware to pop up.( and download speeds are fast. way faster than sammobile free or other crapy sites.)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...g-firmware-t2988647/post57842725#post57842725
to dl the tool on the post link above , skip the part where it says depreciated and dl it from attached OP post. read up though on the windows ( MS redist) dependencies to run it.
downloaded firmware is flashable once extracted using odin 3.13.3 from here:
https://dl2018.sammobile.com/Odin3-v3.13.3.zip
this required to see phone com port with odin
samsung usb drivers:
https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/M...ver-for-Mobile-Phones-1-5-65-0.shtml#download
put phone into download mode:
(make sure your device is off before doing anything.) hold the following button combo: VOLUME DOWN + BIXBY and plug usb cable from PC to phone then release button when you see DL mode and press vol up to accept to enter it.
in odin:
to not reset/wipe data fill in all slots with unziped md5's from file downloaded with samfirm: BL, AP, CP AND CSC (use ONLY these 4 corresponding files*)
(* For csc: home_csc.md5 is to not loose data and regular *csc.md5 will wipe clean.) (userdat.md5 is korean bloat, skip it not needed if you are not on korean sim carrier)
if you are on a custom rom(rooted device) and just want to update bootlaoder and modem to latest, then flash only ;
BL.md5 and CP.md5 in the according slots.
flashing official firmware and components like this dosent trip knox or voids warranty so its all safe.
edited for links to the tools needed and some clarifications.

try to install the KOO firmware. i believe it is the "unbranded" firmware for korean n960n devices.
be careful of personal data if you try. using the method described above to flash with odin.( the part when using csc.md5 file because i might wipe data from phone. but it might also remove bootlogo and more bloatware apps from korea)

This is my buildnumber N960NKSU2CSE3 this for baseband N960NKOU2CSD2 if i download KOO firmware

Btw i got firmware KOO but unziped file i get 6 fil, AP, BL, CP, CSC, HOME CSC, and USER Data how i must input User Data File to?
I'm in Korea too, using an unbranded KOO N960N (exynos). It seems like the update is unavailable in this region. I left a question on the Samsung Members forum, and it seems like they're saying the night sight camera mode had some pretty large bugs, so they have to fix that. Also, the night sight camera update was just released for the S9 series, so hopefully it shouldn't be long before we can get it for the Note 9.
[edit]
Also, checking the latest firmware for N960N in SAMFIRM results in the same firmware, an outdated May 2019 version withOUT night sight camera. Looks like we will have to await the official release ...
This sucks because my Mate 20 Pro takes absolutely stunning pics at night.

moreover you might need to install samsung android drivers. you can search for them on xda or you can install samsung smart switch. it has the drivers built in. the software is useless it is only being installed for the driver package.

there will always be some carrier bloat leftover. the only way is to root and install a custom rom to get rid of everything.

Samsung Note 9 will not update 8.1.0

Hi, don't know if anyone can help?
I live in the UK and have a Samsung Note 9 which came from the UAE. The phone will not update and is currently Android version 8.1.0 with security patch dated 01/11/18.
I have tried updating via Samsung Smart Switch.
I have cleared the cache, done a factory reset and checked if the phone is rooted, which it isn't.
I believe the only way to update the android version is to do it manually, can anyone help with this.
The phone is SM-N960F dual sim Serial Number RF8KC1DMFSR
Thanks

As far as I understand, your phone has OXM which includes multi CSC, so it doesn't matter which firrmware you can download and flash.
If you have doubt, just install Samsung Phone Info from playstore. In CSC code tab, check what is its original csc.
Use samfirm or frija to download at very high speed.

This is multi csc firmware so don't worry it will detect your sim card and select csc/country code automatically where you live.
Thanks all working

Thanks for your help. My phone is now running on Android 10, the only thing now to do is to setup all the apps etc (I used smartswitch prior to flashing).
Once again thanks for your help.
