At a glance preferences no working - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

Hi, I don't want At-a-Glance to show my calendar tasks. I've tried long pressing over it and then clicking on Preferences, but when I click on Preferences nothing happens. I don't want to install another launcher and I'm sure there must be a way to change this.

It looks like it's currently broken..
Probably Xiaomi just wanted to screw something even with this update, since it's tradition

looking 2 apps (contacs organiser and power control)

Hey,
I have a little problem with my contacs, every time I pull out and pull back sim card, all contacs copy somehow.. It is little annoying when you see a lot of the same contacs. I need app which can delete multiple contacs (hard enough to do it by my self, because more than 200 contacs have to be deleted).
Also, I need a power control app, which contain a "mobile data connection" button. I were using power control widget, which had this button, and now flashed a new rom and can`t find it, there are just brightness, sync, gps, wireless and bluetooth buttons.
Please offer any paid/free apps for me,
Thanks
and sorry of my bad english
Hi
im not too sure about the contacts part i use go contacts ex for that so just saying
but as far as power control goes try extended controls it lets you make a control out of anything even apps
and will let you theme them, so look it up and give it a try
hope this helps

[Q] Rooting & Profiles

Hey total noob question I guess but I'm excited to root my new hd+ and install the gapps zip BUT I haven't seen any info about what effect if any this will have on any child profiles I have setup already on the device. Has anyone done the root thing that has child profiles? Thanks.

I just added a child profile to my already rooted HD. When I was in the child profile, I could go to the other launcher I had installed, open the app drawer, and see all my non B&N apps. The only ones not showing were the ones blocked on the BN side. So I could open my Dolphin browser and browse without restriction.
You could make the B&N Home your default launcher so it was difficult but not impossible to get to the non-BN stuff, but then it would be a pain for you to use too.

Hmm. I was afraid of that. Thanks for the help!
Ok I'm close. I've rooted from the handy zips and from what I can tell the child accounts can't access notifications. The message is there but it can't be selected from the child accounts. So if I can figure out a way to slap a launcher shortcut up there I can have the home button go to the Nook launcher and a top button that goes to the Android one.

Yes, depending on the child though you can access applications by tapping the "Apps" on the application screen while holding the VOL- button too. Maybe we'll get 4.2 on CM10...?

I bet there's an app for that. Can't recommend one myself, but I'm pretty sure I've seen something mentioned around here before.
If you find something, be sure and let us know. I'm sure there are others that could use this.

I did find something. It's called "Notification Toggle" in the Play Store. I can't post links yet.
Basically you can set the notification area as a app drawer. Right now I just have a link back to the Nova Launcher.
I was wrong before though...child profiles CAN access the notification bar. I swear I tried 14 times and couldn't but then I tried it again and it came down. Very weird.
I really wish there was a way to hack the nook app list to let me just add Play store installed stuff there. Even if I had to hand code it would be worth it. I also discovered that my 2 year old could still get to the Nook store even though I had it disabled in his profile. It seems to let apps link back to it regardless. It kind of has me rethinking the content restrictions which is the whole reason I bought the thing.
Weird. I tried to access notifications from a child account and couldn't either. Was it after you added the app that you could?
That's too bad that the profile restrictions don't even seem to be working. The child profile I made just to test this out was for a 10 year old. I left all the initial setup options default, and I noticed that they were suppose to be able to look at kids stuff in the store. Browse but not buy I guess. But I didn't really look too much into it since I don't actually need it. Just mildly curious.

Yeah after banging on the notification bar for a long time today I figured it out. The child profile doesn't give you the same size "hotspot" that the normal one does but if you hit a tiny area between the notification icon and the dots showing what home screen you are on you can get it open, and once I figured out the teensy area I was trying to hit I could pull it up consistently. It's like the programming in the profile put a dead zone over the button but didn't cover it all the way.
As for the store, I just put a password on purchases. Apps that direct link to another app (like the Dr. Suess books) will take you right in regardless of how you have the store settings checked in parental controls.

[Q] Quick Launch not working and Can't switch to TouchWiz?

Couple of quick questions.
Camera quick launch stopped working for me. I can double tab the home button and it doesn't start. If I go to the camera settings and toggle it off then on, it will work again for a little while, but shortly after it will stop again. Any suggestions?
Second thing, I use Google Now launcher, but wanted to turn TouchWiz back on for a little bit, just to play with it and see if I wanted to stick with TW for a while, but when I go to settings, Default apps, Home, Google now is selected, and TW (as well as TW Easy) are greyed out and say "Doesn't support work profiles". I don't see anywhere to change work profiles, or set up profiles at all...
Thanks,
TR

I'm actually having these exact same issues, I thought I was losing my mind. However I'm using just the S6, not the S6 edge. Does not support work profiles makes me think that it might be related to Samsung Knox?
Edit: Apparently the quick launch feature is, understandably, permanently greyed out in the samsung knox version of the camera app. Perhaps some of the settings are spilling out into the regular phone environment?

Well, since I posted this I reset the quick launch (again) and it seems to have stuck this time. I turned it off, rebooted, turned it on, rebooted, and it seems to be sticking now for several days anyway.
Regarding TouchWiz, I uninstalled MyKnox that I had set up for work email (they want device admin, so I only do it in Knox so they can't erase my device), and I could pick TouchWiz again, so that was it. I quickly went back to Google Now Launcher again anyway .
Maybe Quick Launch of the camera has been working because Knox was uninstalled? I'll re-install and see what happens.
Hi.. I am having the exact same issue with my launcher
But I don't see where I can change the settings for the work profiles
I never apply for any work profile/Samsung Knox.. So i really have no idea to change the settings

Widgets not opening associated apps

I have a very nice new K20 Pro direct from China. Because I'm not a big fan of MIUI, I'm running Action Launcher. My only problem is with widgets: I can place them, they function as normal (updating automatically and on touch, or playing - Pocket Casts - etc). But the associated app doesn't open on tap. Not on a single widget. I've granted all the apps all the permissions I could find, de-restricted battery on those apps, allowed apps to start other apps, all to no aviail.
I thought maybe it was something to do with Action Launcher, but it does it with Nova Launcher as well, which suggests it's a MIUI thing.
It's a little bit annoying - such a simple thing! Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It's definitely a MIUI thing. I had the same when using Evie Launcher. For me it worked for the first couple of times after installing the widget, then stopped altogether. I found MIUI is very aggressive at killing backgrounds processes and services and so put it down to that. I never managed to found out how to fix it. But as soon as I could unlock the bootloader I've been on GSI ROMs and haven't looked back. Everything works fine again now.
It has to do with the app permissions, I had it too and I fixed it
Try to give it permission to start in background.
That seemed to fix it for me.
Oh and in developer options, I also scrolled down all the way, and turned off MIUI optimization.

Thanks, I did all of that. As best I could, they don't make it easy to find these things! No change. Anyone else?
Solved - somehow!
So it started working. Widgets open apps on Action launcher.
I actually switched MIUI Optimisations back on in Developer options, as this allows you to access more permissions, and I made sure again that Action Launcher has every permission granted to it. It now asks every time I open any app for the first time if it can do so, and I think that was what was holding it back before. Also made sure there was no battery restriction on the launcher itself. So now the phone is functioning as it should, and I can enjoy it fully.
Edit: And I also gave Action Launcher accessibility access...
Same here
I've just come across the same problem. For me it was the option 'Display pop-up windows while running in the background'. that had to be enabled for the app in question.. Apparently the last system update either disabled this for all my widgets or introduced the feature in the first place.
der_faebu that did it for me, thanks.

Well I figured out the solution:
Go to settings --> Installed apps --> Permissions --> Additional permissions and then Allow 'Start in background' for the apps which are not getting opened. No way to do this for all apps in one click though....

This fixed my problems:
1. Start in backraound
2. Display pop-up windows while running....

yes, it works also for me. but it is just crazy how xiaomi is agressive in stopping apps in the background.

If you do not like the UI change it or get rid of the mobile. For you it is horrible but for most of users not. It is a matter of taste.
Good luck with it.

Thx, very helpful
use a third party launcher to get rid of google page (lawnchair launcher 2,nova launcher)
and make sure you haven't locked homescreen when adding contact shortcut
I accidentally found a way to remove the Google feed.
I tried installing 'Breeno feed' from APK mirror. The phone required rebooting before it appeared on the left of my homescreen.
Most of the features didn't work properly, probably due to my phone being from the UK. So I uninstalled it (on app menu shows as 'Quick Glance').
After uninstalling it, Google feed no longer appears on my home screen, in fact I can't swipe left at all now
It stayed gone after a reboot and hopefully won't cause any issues.
Just thought I'd share this info and hope it can help someone.
After another reboot today Google feed reappeared..
So I just quickly repeated the steps and it's gone again. I guess it doesn't remain after a reboot.
Hi I've upgraded to this phone today from my find X2 pro and I saw this thread so I extracted the Smart Assistant apk from the find x2 installed it on the find x3 and it works fine but you only get weather, calendar and step counter features with my apk I've attached below if any of you want it.
Edit: there's a bug with weather not updating but otherwise it's better than having google on it I guess
Install apk and reboot.

Excellent it works weather hasn't updated yet but at least it's not an eye sore like the Google feed!

Yh it doesn't update for me either I'll have to let people know that
There is another solution for disabling it completely which was shared by wedaxi on reddit:
Hello, maybe it's late to leave an answer but this is how I removed the google feed completely from the home screen.
You need to enable developer tools on your phone: https://developer.android.com/studio/debug/dev-options
Download Android Studio on your computer (this is the easiest way to install adb wich you will need, but you can search how to install adb independently)
Connect your phone to the computer with usb cable (you can also connect the phone wirelessly but the cable is the easiest method https://developer.android.com/studio/command-line/adb)
Once you are connected use this command from the computer console to disable google feed app
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
This only disables the app, it does not uninstall it, to do that you probably need to root the phone and I just don't recommend it.
I'm sorry if this method is not the easiest, this is what I did after not finding any other solution and It works.
However the Goolge-App and Lens won't work afterwards!
Hey there,
I found a way to "disable" the Google feed without installing another launcher.
If you hide the Google App in the Privacy Settings, when you swipe left, nothing happens. The icon at the bottom which indicates how many pages there are is still visible but honestly it doesn't bother me much.
Hopefully, Oppo will add the option to hide the Google Feed page.
Cheers
