I noticed that I can unlock the redmi k20 pro while the display is off. if I hit the fingerprint spot, the screen glows green on the corresponding area and it unlocks. (really conviniend)
Is this a 7th gen sensor feature, or do more phones have it? Or is it simply software?
A friends op 6t needs the display to be on for the fingerprint sensor to start checking, so I got curious.
Edit:
I mean under display fingerprints.
On pocof1 fingerprint reader was also always on , on my k20pro it also always on. when i had lineage installed on poco then you had to wake the screen to unlock so i think it software thing to have it always running in background

Yeah, normal capacitive fingerprints should always work while the display is off, I was wondering about under display ones.
Also i saw option to enable like aod but with fingerprint reader that it always shows on locked screen

I'm happy user of 4x for a few days. Currently I am on LineageOS 15.1, treble version. I have some noob questions - I tried searching for answers but couldn't find ones that satisfied me.
1. Can I disable fingerprint scanner or prevent touching it from waking phone? (except putting tape on it)
2. How to check firmware version? Which version is the best?
3. On the box of my 4x there is a date 2017.10 - does my phone have rgb LED or white one?
4. Do you guys also have some strange touchscreen issues, like when scrolling trough a page, phone reads swiping as tap+swiping or hold+swiping? Sometimes it just marks some text or redirects me to another page in chrome (If I swipe by putting my finger on text or link). Also, what's stranger - when I put my phone on desk or another flat surface - I can't pull down notification bar. When I take phone in my hand - it works fine...
5. Is there a way to increase vibration strenght? I already made it 100% via Kernel Adiutor, but can it get even stronger? Sometimes I just do not even feel it in my pocket. Or maybe there is a ROM with option to make custom vibration pattern for every app?
I hope you guys can help me.
1. Turn of lock screen, your device will not wake by fingerprint scanner touch unless you click power button or volume rocker buttons (if it's has been set to wake device) i am using DOT OS 2.4 and it's working fine.
Don't put tape??
2. Don't about firmware.
3.try using apps like light manager or some other apps to check RGB lights but it must needs to be enabled in ROM if it isnt then it wont will work.
You'll also see different colors depending upon battery percentage while when charging your device.
like I have said to you in your another thread early production redmi 4x has RGB LED notification lights and later after they started giving only white light (as per I saw many users reporting that they are getting only white LED)
RGB lights are turned on by default in RR,DOT OS,MIUI PRO, XIAOMI EU,HAVOC OS, I have tried all of them and my device has RGB lights.
My device was purchased in MAY 2017 and model is MAI 132 just in case if you need information about it.
4.no touch issues on custom ROM but on MIUI(all versions) sometimes on charging I face touch issues.
5.dont know how to increase vibration intensity but check if there any root app available to do this.

Thanks for interest. On LOS 15.1 when I disable lockscreen (going straight to desktop after wake), fingerprint scanner still wakes my device. It seems I will have to test other ROMs.

It shouldn't have wake device, maybe its ROM dependent.
If you get any solution let us know if any case looking for the same, it'll help ?

I have no fingerprints added.
Try LOS 16 with firmware v042
Since I have only had my Mi 9 for less than a month, it should be impossible that it already has a Burn In...
However on the part of the screen where the fingerprint sensor sits, I noticed a grey-ish circle, which is exactly the size of the fingerprint. Since Burn In after 2 weeks should be impossible I turned the phone off and restarted it after a Minute and the spot was gone.
Now 2 hours later it is there again.
I don't even use the fingerprint sensor very often, only if I can't use face unlock...
Did anyone experience a similar problem?
(Btw, it's not software, I took a screenshot and it wasn't there)

Well, that's interesting... Do follow this up to let us know what's up.
Before I got my Mi 9 yesterday, I clocked a full 4 years on my Note 4, and never experienced burn in... In fact, I would argue that the display looks the same today, as it looked the day I bought it. (no noticeable brightness drop)
i have experienced this on every "in display fingerprint" phone i've owned, and all it it is the optical sensor slightly visible with the screen off .

Hey Man sorry for telling you so but this gray spot is the actual hole that your phone needs for the indisplay fingerprint scanner to work. You cannot notice it in all conditions. To test it go out in the sun max out the brightness and use a completely white photo.
P.s. there is another hole near your notch which is your proximity sensor

yes thats correct the circle is only to assist you with the position of fingerprint sensor, its the same in my huawei mate 20 Pro, cheers

Is it possible to remove fingerprint from aod on p30 pro without removing fingerprint sign in? I can't find settings for it...
I don't know about yours, but mine isn't there until I pick up the phone or touch the screen?
If you want to completely remove it then you can't - the way the finger print sensor works requires the screen to light up at max brightness under your finger so it can capture the fingerprint with the optical sensor.
Watch the 'JerryRigEverything' YouTube teardown to find out more info on how it works, but when scanning for a fingerprint it needs the illumination

I was wondering this too as I'm starting to get slight screen burn from a combination of that and the intense light required to unlock. My S10+ has an option to turn it off, and muscle memory dictates that it isn't really necessary after a few days of use.

As I said above, the reason for the intense light is that it uses and optical sensor rather than an ultrasonic sensor (as used in the S10+). Without the light it simply will not be able to see fingerprints.

I understand that but I'd like to at least be able to turn off the fingerprint indicator. I hold my phone in my hand most of the day so it's a bit annoying that it pops up every time you move the phone. You can switch off this indicator on the S10 and it has nothing to do with the technology - it's just a guide.
I've noticed that, unlike other phones I own (from Huawei, Meizu, Samsung), on Xiaomi phones the proximity sensor is not active outside calling screen, making the phone accidentally react to touches with face or ear when call is in progress.
As long as I leave calling screen, for example to take a note, search something on the web or to make simple calculations, things that are needed in the calling process, proximity sensor becomes disabled, meaning that if I put the phone back to my ear, the screen won't turn off like on other brands I own.
This happens on an older Xiaomi Redmi 4A, making me believe that it's a MIUI thing. I haven't got the chance to test this behavior on custom ROMs.
Is there a way to force the proximity sensor to be enabled all the time when a call is in progress, no matter what app is in foreground?

Of course but my issue has nothing to do with that setting. Even that setting is ON, proximity sensor gets disabled (or its effect gets lost) if the calling screen goes in the background - which doesn't happen on other brands.
Yeah, I know, it's a Xiaomi/MIUI thing but maybe there's a software workaround for this.

I don't have the issue you are having, I had a call this morning, had to grab some details off a text message, the little green call indicator went to the top right hand side of the screen, if I hover my hand over the top left hand side of the screen the screen turns off. I was in the house though I've not had the need to anything like that outside

I tested MIUI 12 Beta from xiaomi.eu for about a week but the issue was still present. Maybe is'a Beta thing or "feature" that had a different approach on Stable ROM.
I feel there is no proximity sensor in this phone..
Becuase while i am on call , even though the screen is touched to my ear , it will light up randomly as i am walking and turning.
Is that function managed by accelerometer and gyroscope as in new redmi phones ?
The autobrightness is also acting weird for me in some cases .

It doesn't do so for me but yes if I move my face when talking the screen turns on but then goes back off immediately. It seems that proximity sensor is managed by the accelerometer combined with ai just like it was in my old OnePlus 7Pro. However, I could be totally wrong!

While on call I tried to use another phone`s camera to search for proximity sensor ( it is ir based , so camera picks it up).
But couldnt find it

So then, my suspicions are right..It's accelerometer+ai
I think it uses the camera too. If you try unlock the phone with the selfie camera covered, it will try to prevent it.
Likewise, if you make a call with your phone placed flat on a surface, you can get the screen to turn off by covering the camera.

I dont think it has .
Even when i am on call , phone just touching my ear , it randomly lets the screen turn on .
Also as far as i remember , always on display in the previous generations used to turn off when the phone was in pocket ( or screen was covered)
But here , the aod always remains on regardless if phone is in pocket or outside .

Yes you are right. It has an ir based one like note 10,20, s10, s20...
Samsung probably is wondering if they should make it invisible with no indicator. That tiny flashing circle has caused more commotion than a midget hooker in the playpen. Every new model provokes this same discussion... talk about a fixation
Using the camera sensor be prohibitive because of power consumption. It would still need an IR emitter to work properly. Net zero gain... and a lot of added complexity at best.
You can test the light sensor with CPU-Z, cover the space to the right of the front camera, that's also what triggers display dimming no matter what adaptive brightness settings you have.
my S20 FE does the same thing on calls. super irritating... i wonder if Samsung will correct the SD card slot omission mistake on the S22. they did the same thing with the S6 and fixed it on the S7

The light sensor is there , itried with cpuz , but i feel the proximity sensor does not work properly .
It wakes up the screen during calls
